14. Talent: What is your twst OC's talent and who can properly appreciate that talent?

Jess:

Jess has a variety of skills, most of them having to do with singing, dancing or performing, as they used to participate in Beatuty Pegants and Competitions from a young age as requested by their mother.

But the one thing Jess grew to love enough to practice it even in their alone time is: making music.

Or music composition, more accurately, Jess found extreme comfort in music.

They first began making up random melodies in free apps at the age of 10, soon they started watching proper tutorials, and studying books online and had managed to create songs using the piano at their mother’s home by the time they were 13. Least to say, they had it in them.

Their mother had realised Jess creating their own songs would be an advantage during competitions, so they signed them up for training with a professional since they had the money for it. Hard-earned money Jess had won.

Over time, Jess found themselves losing their love for making music, as it had become another tool forced upon them by their mother to keep winning— the same thing that had happened with dancing, singing and even performing in general.

Jess can’t deny their talent though, and to their surprise, it proved to be quite useful during the SDC. It started with giving Vil mere suggestions on how to improve his song, then quickly escalated to them becoming the co-writer for it.

Due to that, Vil is the first to truly appreciate their talent and the first to know why Jess hid it, so much so that he felt guilty for also causing the song they had worked so hard on together to fail— along with the guilt of making the whole team lose.

If they had to be blunt, Jess would say they aren’t grateful for a lot of the things their mother had put them through. However, if those skills could be useful somehow, they’d be willing to put them to use. It’s important to take every chance that’s given to you, right?

Jovie:

Jovie’s talent is one fitting of someone with an artistic nature: Graphic Design.

Drawing, in general, too but the craft of creating visual content and representations was their speciality. Jovie had been drawing since they were very young— and with the combination of the witchy spell books inherited from their grandma that included a range of colourful symbols and designs— it’s no wonder Jovie grew a knack for design and art.

Colours, shapes, lines— Jovie loved them all. They loved playing around with them to create art, it’s one of the main ways she knew how to express themselves. Along with that, it was also useful to study and understand the old symbols in the books her ancestors had created for hexes and curses.

Her mother would always tell them the importance of visual representation. For witches, a written spell isn't enough to perform their spells, a symbol to go along with it is crucial to the process.

Now imagine their surprise when they used this talent to…help in designing a restaurant.

Menus, business cards, and other print materials— Once Jovie agreed to work with a certain octopus to help with his new lounge, they suddenly found themselves with a lot more work.

Not that they mind, despite the frustrations and complaints. More work meant more payment, whether it was monetary or practical.

As it were, Azul had found himself understanding what goes into designing on a deep level— from the thought process behind the decisions to seeing first-hand the frustration of an artist when their vision wouldn’t come out how they imagined it.

It intrigued him, in a way, and he developed a new profound appreciation for it. And besides— it’s only natural for a good employer to understand the work of his employees, right?

It's a fact visuals are how you catch someone's attention immediately, and a good visual will pique the person's curiosity, making them look even longer. They are vital if you want to attract people, and he couldn't deny that Jovie's work had done the job successfully.

16. Quote: Give me something your twst OC will say. Either something they always say or something iconic they said. Something that helps solve the problems or something that is a catalyst to even more issues.

Jess:

"EVERYONE, SHUT UP." - a common phrase they yell when everyone around them starts bickering and arguing like middle schoolers. Loud noises aren’t something that necessarily bothers Jess, but so many people yelling at once can truly get annoying, especially during serious situations.

"Remember when you told me I need to set a good example for my dorm members? Well, here I am, because a good leader never leaves their members behind, even if it's only one." - Jess to Riddle at STYX, trying to make him understand why they're the one that have to find Grim in Tartarus.

Jovie:

"I'm gonna kill him I'm gonna kill him I'm gonna-" - Just a little thing they mutter when Floyd won't cooperate with them, or whenever someone is being a huge nuisance, for that matter. You'll find them muttering it in her native language (Greek) a lot too. (fun fact I do that irl too).

"What-? No! I never hated the way you were back then, I loved you just as much as I love the way you are now!" - Said during a serious conversation between Jovie and Azul.

2. Inspiration: Is your twst OC inspired by any villains? Concepts? Anything Disney-related?

Jess:

I actually made Jess on the spot without much thought behind them a few months ago. However, over time their design ended up being perfect for who they are in the present as a person.

So, I didn't have any character specifically that I based them after, but I focused on Disney-created media for their inspiration as I developed their character.

Made this thing some time ago and finally have an excuse to share it! Some inspirations are loose, some more specific, and some I may not be aware of lmao.

Also, ever since the TADC ep 2 dropped Jess became even more Pomni coded tbh >_<

Fun fact, King Richard is from the Musical Galavant, and Alan Menken who produced a lot of the classic Disney songs, worked as a producer in Galavant too! If you check the songs they have that old Disney vibe, and lot of them feel very twst-like too.

18. Backstory: Tell me anything about your twst OC's backstory. Their childhood, their parents, their siblings etc. Does their backstory affect how they are as a character now and how they interact with the cast?

Jovie:

Jovie's backstory is still a work in progress, so I can't share much about it yet, BUT I can definitely share some things about their hometown :D

(this is all made-up lore and not taken from the game, I'm just having fun with fanon world-building.)

They grew up in a small town mostly populated by magic-users who called themselves witches instead of mages (regardless of gender). Hench why she introduces themselves as a witch.

In their town, they follow a lot of traditional witchy practices, like rituals, a focus on herbs and potions along with getting their hat once they begin their magical education. Jovie's mom, sister and grandma (father not around) have bigger hats than her, the size of the hat showing the level of skill of the witch.

Nowadays, the witch hat is seen as an accessory for special events, but for witches, it's a crucial part of their identity. So, even though Jovie had to take it off in NRC (to stop unnecessary attention) she transformed it into a bow to wear on their head instead.

Along with that, potion-making is an art easily found in her home, as it's used almost regularly either for trade, sale or even for personal use. Some historians even believe that witches were the first to develop a lot of potion recipes that are now commonly taught and used widely.

Witches tend to focus on curses and jinx spells, as historically they used them to defend themselves. against foes.

Witches draw their magic from nature, deeply engaging with it through rituals. Each spring, they focus on planting trees and flowers as a way of reciprocating to nature after using its magical resources.

This practice historically led to tensions between witches and fairies. Fairies view witches as extracting magic from nature and causing harm, while witches perceive fairies as selfish for not sharing nature's gift.

Although this conflict has decreased over time, it's still a reason why witches often live in isolation nowadays and avoid fae kind.

(If I ever make a fan-event for their hometown I'm definitely adding Malleus and/or some other fae character because the potential here is so cool)

Younger witches use wands with a magestone to control and utilise their magic with more ease, but after a point, they leave it and begin using their hands instead.

Although it heavily depends on the community of witches, in Jovie's hometown focus is placed on the moon and stars, with worshipping rituals happening once a year to give thanks to them, as they see them as nature's most magical properties.

Some other communities may focus on the sun, fire, ocean etc.

NAME, for the asks?

I have spent so much time thinking about their names/nicknames I wish I was joking. So excuse me for rambling about names for an excessive amount of time lmao

1. Name: What does your twst OC's name mean? Why does Rook/Floyd call them [insert nickname]?

Jess:

NAME: So, fun fact, Jess' full name is Jessica Ariti!

But they only introduced themselves as Jess in NRC, dropping the gendered version of their name. They don't consider "Jessica" to really be a dead name, but it's not one they use moving forward.

This is partly due to them questioning their gender, and also to show their character with the difference of meanings between "Jessica" and "Jess"

"Jessica" means "to behold"

It's a reference to Jess being forced to partake in beauty pageants by their mother and be seen by so many people in a glamorised and even objectifying way.

"Jess" means "God exists" and "Gift of God."

"God exists" alludes to Jess coming to Twisted Wonderland because of an outside party, or person of higher power.

"Gift of God” kind of hints at Jess being something of a ‘gift’ to NRC/Twisted Wonderland sent by someone to help others.

Their surname, Ariti, comes from Greek and it means “someone who is approachable, friendly, or generous.”

Hints at Jess' naturally kinder personality compared to the other characters. Trying to be polite to everyone (unless treated otherwise at least lmao), giving well-thought-out gifts, and being willing to help anyone who may need help.

NICKNAMES: I have a whole list lmao

Prefect/Ramshackle Prefect - Classic, what most people on campus call them.

Henchman - They're Grim's minion, after all.

Little Shrimpy - Given to by Floyd because of their short height and red hair.

Trickster - Given by Rook, a comment on their more deceiving and cunning side of their personality.

Jessy - a general nickname, mostly used by Adeuce and Grim.

Tabby Cat - After a rather interesting interaction between Leona and Jess after his overblot (aka Jess taking his staff and starting to hit him with it for the shit he did) Leona realised calling them a "herbivore" didn't fit someone as blood-hunting as Jess. Tabby Cat's have spots on them, and it's refering to Jess' freckles.

Flame-Haired friend - A little something Malleus calls Jess at times when not using their name. Of course, this refers to their red fluffy hair.

Jovie:

NAME: There's a funny story behind her name "Jovie J. Jovinston"

Jovie it's just the name I picked about a year and a half ago to use online.

The meaning ("joyful") is similar to my irl name and I like names that start with J.

"Jovinston" is just a joke surname my friend @/summerspook made up on the spot, but I was able to give it meaning lmao.

"Jovinston" is a combination of "John" ("God is gracious") and "Wiston" ("joyful strength"). So, one meaning of the surname can be "God's joyful strength."

J. stands for "Jola" and it's of ancient Greek origin, meaning "violet flower". I just wanted her to have a Greek name lmao.

Honestly, their name doesn't have that deep of a reason behind it like Jess, I just wanted to pick something I could relate to personally with and have fun with.

NICKNAMES: They will kill you if you call her "Jolly Jovie."

Joves, Jovial, Jollie etc - General nicknames that are used for her, Joves being commonly used.

Sea Star (hitode-chan) - Given by Floyd, Jovie uses a lot of star patterns with her magic and is a bit of her signature symbol (along with bows lmao).

Angelfish - Used affectionately by Azul once they get together, I like imagining his mom using it for his dad, and he picked it up from her.

Monarque des Bows (Monarch of Bows) - Given by Rook, I decided to go for a gender-natural nickname for Jovie with this one (she's a demi-girl enby, like me).
