The face of a man who does NOT in fact promise:
[John Dashwood: I promise, father.]
Kudoos for making John Dashwood look extremely punchable.

Just finished Chapter 33 in Sense and Sensibility. John Dashwood has hella audacity bc he tells Elinor about his concerns for her and their sisters’ ability to marry well but emphasizes their lack of fortune as if that isn’t literally HIS fault. He was out here building greenhouses and buying an extra home instead fulfilling his father’s death wish to help his sisters and his stepmom to the best of his ability🙄

The Darcy Family Album: Volume XI
It's our last day with the Darcys for a while now, so make the most of it!
Agnes is not above a little cheating, to get what she wants. (I think she definitely takes after her grandfather Fitzwilliam in looks, although perhaps she has her mum Eliza's nose.)
She just needs to learn not to get caught.
Lewis prefers to spend his time with the feline members of the family.
The twins haven't even started school yet, but grandma Charlotte is already expecting great things from them academically.
When you have two cats, you tend to end up with more. Meet Maki...
and Nigiri, the adorable offspring of Sushi and Trinny.
And now say goodbye to Nigiri! I'm sure we'll see him again one day though.
School pal John seems very taken with Maki, the remaining kitten - and who wouldn't be?!
Isabel bursts into childhood, catching up with her twin siblings.

Agnes has a smart new look for school - a sleek bob and snazzy glasses in her favourite colour.
It seems it's time for that talk already - maybe Agnes asked where kittens come from? She seems to be taking it in her stride though.
Lewis, however, has found something very eye-opening in his homework. He's got new glasses too - and I think they suit him perfectly!
Fitzwilliam and Charlotte have high hopes for their grandchildren, and couldn't be more nurturing of their intellectual development.
Ah, it seems like only yesterday that Trinny was a kitten herself. (Actually, it probably was.)
Sleep tight, little one, until we see you again.

“He was not an ill-disposed young man, unless to be rather cold hearted and rather selfish is to be ill-disposed: but he was, in general, well respected; for he conducted himself with propriety in the discharge of his ordinary duties.”
Solid burn! Can you guess who Austen has just introduced?
How about his final dialogue?
“I will not say that I am disappointed, my dear sister,” said John, as they were walking together one morning before the gates of Delaford House, “that would be saying too much, for certainly you have been one of the most fortunate young women in the world, as it is. But, I confess, it would give me great pleasure to call Colonel Brandon brother. His property here, his place, his house, every thing is in such respectable and excellent condition! And his woods,—I have not seen such timber any where in Dorsetshire, as there is now standing in Delaford Hanger! And though, perhaps, Marianne may not seem exactly the person to attract him, yet I think it would altogether be advisable for you to have them now frequently staying with you, for as Colonel Brandon seems a great deal at home, nobody can tell what may happen; for, when people are much thrown together, and see little of anybody else,—and it will always be in your power to set her off to advantage, and so forth. In short, you may as well give her a chance: you understand me.”
Yes we continue to understand you. You will never do anything for anyone that might cost you a thing, but you are anxious for everyone to help in your place. He’s a character I really love to hate and sadly he has no idea he’s bad. The teensiest twinges of guilt he ever feels are quickly brushed away.
I am one of those fans that came to Austen via adaptations like so many others. I don’t think the books were exactly what I expected, but they were even better. I’ve stayed around and continue to come back for the biting humor and satire. It never lets me down. No one gives a back-handed compliment so well or writes a highly irritating character with just enough clarity you know you have met a similar person. May we all be free of the John Dashwoods in our lives.

What is this????
[I must apologize to you for the way you've been treated. I should have stood up for you more.]
John Dashwood being sorry? So odd. And doesn't seem super meaningful unless he's planning to throw them a couple thousand pounds...

If reading/experiencing Jane Austen's work has convinced you that you would like to live in Regency Era England, you read it completely wrong.

The Dashwood Family Album: Volume XVIII
Just a short update today, before we leave the Dashwoods and drop in on another family.
Harry's new school friend Phineas is a bit of an oddity it seems - following Alice and John around the house to pull faces at them, for no apparent reason.
Despite his eccentricities, he and Harry seem to get along quite amicably.
And of course - as always - Phineas and his cousin Annabel (who also happens to be Daniel's niece - it's complicated) come as a package deal.
Harry's social circle is also enlarged by getting acquainted with Alasdair, from across the road.
It's now time for the oldest child John to put away childish things.

Tying the knot recently certainly hasn't cooled Daniel and Clara's ardour, and they make the most of a rare day at home together, without the older kids being around to cramp their style.

Just stumbled upon quite a fun series of videos on youtube. There are more for other Austen books, but here are the Sense and Sensibility ones:
Marianne Dashwood to John Willoughby:
John Willoughby to Marianne Dashwood:

Watching Marianne go for Willoughby instead of Brandon in “Sense and Sensibility”, gives me the same irritation as listening to Taylor Swift’s “The way I loved you”.
Why!? Why do you want drama??? Especially when you have sweetness right in front of you!!!!!! She’s such a twit!!!!
