Bollywood Movies Part CXCVII: The Mollywood Takeover Part XXXIII

Shankaran (Jayasurya) is an illegal immigrant and Kathakali dancer who works in a restaurant. Saraswathy (Nadia Moidu) is a housewife who becomes suspicious that her husband (Murali Menon) is having an affair. Sibin (Nivin Pauly) is a lothario who finds himself falling for his friend’s (Sinu Pillai) new wife Gauri (Remya Nambeesan). Joy (Mukesh) has to deal with family problems.

English: An Autumn in London is a decent movie about Malayalees in different social statuses living in London and the troubles they face. I especially enjoyed Shankaran’s and Saraswathy’s stories. Favorite songs are Mayumee and Akaashame. Both songs are audio only and don’t have subtitles.

Sidharth (Indrajith Sukumaran) moves to Bangalore for his job. While looking for a place to live, his girlfriend Veena (Remya Nambeesan) suggests he stay with her friend Icha (Nivin Pauly). Things take a turn when Sidharth notices Icha following him when Icha is also in a completely different place in the company of others.

Arikil Oraal is an interesting thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. Parts of it did feel contrived, especially towards the end. Nivin Pauly definitely showed off his versatility here. Favorite songs are Hey Ithuvazhi and Kanavil Kanavil. Neither song has subtitles.

Rameshan (Nivin Pauly) loves cricket, to the detriment of his studies. His father (Joy Mathew) tries to discourage his obsession with cricket, but to no avail. Later, when Rameshan’s son Kannan (Bhagath Abrid) shows an interest in hitting things with sticks, Rameshan decides to make him a cricket player.

1983 is a great film about family, cricket, and following your dreams (even if they’re dreams for your children). It was a fun watch. Also, the film is a tribute to Sachin Tendulkar. Favorite songs are Thalavettam Kanumba and Olakaam Choodumaayi. Neither song has subtitles.

Being a fan of both the star and the director, one of Malayalam cinema's recent successful collaborations - Ranjith Sankar + Jayasurya, I make it a point to watch their work. Yet they have done it again. 5th time collab, and yet there are no signs of slowing down in terms of quality and no. of releases. Njan Marykutty is a superb film in all aspects - making, performances, emotions, stigma, encouragement, etc. While the direction part isn't the best we have seen from the filmmaker, the actor thumps his screen presence all over with a power packed performance that breaks all traditions of the industry. Not only is Jayasurya's Marykutty a whiff of fresh air when it comes to portrayal of transgenders ⚧, he also gives her a heart and personality which will stay in our minds days or even months after the film. Not every bit is perfect. The film is woefully predictable. The fun lies in waiting for the protagonist to reach his goals. Joju George is ruthless, yet one dimensional. Suraj impresses in an extended cameo. Jewel Mary is brilliant as the friend of Jayasurya as she holds her forte even with more experienced actors. Aju and Innocent bring in subtle but engaging acts. The camera work is decent, music and BGM are good. Dialogues are clap worthy. In just about 2 hours the film is successful in engaging us. Grade A. PS - the next page shows an article that came on today's newspaper which prompted me to post the review. It will be quite good if we start seeing such people as normal beings who have the same emotions as us than as mentally unstable and prostitutes. The film hits all the right notes, and now it's us who need to change the perspective. (at Carnival Cinemas Sports Hub Trivandrum - Greenfield)

<p>India had already won the series. Lanka were playing for pride. Malinag became Lanka's 5th captain of the series. That summed up their state. India brought in Manish, Kuldeep and Shardul for Jadhav, Chahal and Bhuvi. India chose to bat first. Fernando grabbed Dhawan for just 4. Post that it was Kohli show. He overshadwoed Rohit in terms of aggression. He brought up his 50 of 38 balls and later his 29th century. He went past Jayasurya and is now 3rd in the list of max ODI centuries. Sachin of course is miles ahead with 49 centuries. Rohit and Kohli had scored 219 runs in 28 overs. Thats staggering. It looks like Kohli can score a double. But against the run of play, Malindga dismissed him. That was his 300th ODi wicket. He wont remember that much as India had hamered them. With the way Lanka were batting India could actualy declare at this point itself :-) Pandya was promoted early but just managed 19. Rahul disappointed again. Rohit completed his 13th ODi century and 2nd in a row. Manish and Dhoni then took center stage. Dhoni was gifted with a memento by Kohli for his 300th ODI. He hardly looked like getting out. India though slowed down still managed to score 375 runs . Manaish scored a fifty on return. Dhoni was selflessly not out at 49. Lanka started with a bang scoring 22 of first 2 overs. India knew it was a matter of 1 wicket. Shardul grabbed his first ODi wicket in very 10th delivery by dismissing Dickwella. It was downhill from There. Mendis was runout 3 overs later. Bumrah dismissed Munaweera. Lanka all of a sudden from 22-0 were down to 37-3. Wickets fell at regular intervals thereafter. Siriwardene and Mathews tried to make a match of it with 73 run stand. But that was all about it. Lanka were dismissed for 207.168 runs was their biggest defeat at home. Gap between India and Lanka has got bigger over the period of this series. Nobody in Lanka is standing tall to face the heat.</p>

<p>US open had more shockers in store. Dimitrov who was in red hot form with Cincinnati open win faced teenager Rublev. Russian rattled him with brilliant attacking tennis. Dimitrov lost in straight sets 57 67 36. It was shocking result. Berdych lost in 4 sets to Dolgopolov. Thiem won against Fritx in 4 tight sets. Pliskova who is the favorite to win this time needed 3 tight sets to beat Gibbs. Ostapenko won in straight sets. Svitolina won in straight sets. In match of the day, Federer met Youzhny. Match was between 36 year old vs 35 year old. It could have been legends match easily :-) Federer went up by a set and 53 to take control of the match. Against the run of play Youzhny found his range and levelled the 2nd set and won it in tiebreaker. He played a flawless 3rd set to 64. Whole crowd was in shock. Federer movement was not as fast as it used to be. Just when it looked like an upset is on cards, he upped the game in 4th set. He broke in all important 3rd game to win it 64. He streamrolled through in final set when Youzhny was suffering from cramps. Federer won 2nd five setter in a row. Cant recall when he won 2 five setters in a row in first 2 rounds. Federer though has looked far from his superior form he showed in Wimbledon.In night match, Nadal had 3 break points in 7th game but Daniel held on. Daniel found range which hurt Nadal . He won first set 64 and was up a break in 2nd. Just when it looked like Nadal would be upset in early round of US open again, he upped his game. He just lost 5 games after that to win 46 63 62 62. Nadal was tested. Cilic won in straight sets . Shapovaloc stunned Tsonga in 3 sets. Coric stunned hot favorite of this years US open Alexandar Zverev. It was tough 4 setter but Zverev had his chances. He has won 5 titles this eyar but has not reached QF of any slams so far. Next year hopefully would be his year as he has the game to win slam. Sharapova won in 3 sets against Babos. She was down by a set. Wozniacki was stunned by Makarova in 3 sets. Wozniacki later complained that Sharapova was given match in Arthur Ashe and not her who was higher ranked. Wozniacki need to understand that Sharapova is winner of 5 slams unlike her and pulls crowd in bunches as well. Her match against Halep was seen by full house 24000 people. Matches in center court is not only seeding but business strategy as well. Andre Agassi when unseeded was also given matches there as he grabbed crowd. Its simple. </p>
