One Day - Crockett Marcel x Reader

Crockett couldn’t tear himself away from the window, his fingertips gripped the curtain so hard his knuckles turned white as his gaze swept the street below. He couldn’t see anything in the patches of darkness, only the concrete pavement across the road where the light from the bus stop illuminated it.

“You worry too much.” You told Crockett as you sat in your favourite armchair, a blanket tucked around your legs and a book resting on your lap.

“You don’t worry enough.” He scowled before releasing the curtain and allowing it to flutter back into place. He turned to face you; his arms crossed over his chest as he leaned back against the wall.

“I can’t put my life on hold every time someone sends a pissed off letter to me. It comes with the territory.” You reminded him, your fingertips toying with the edges of your book.

Crockett pushed off the wall and approached you with a furrowed brow.

It had happened before, he recalled. Last year before the two of you got serious. A letter sent to your office, back then you’d told him it was common practice. You were a family law attorney, specialising in child custody issues, things always got a little heated, but it usually tempered out.

Not this time through, Crockett thought as he sank to his knees alongside the armchair before removing the book from your lap and setting it down on the coffee table. This time things hit a little too close to home.

“Darlin’…” he began, tilting his head up so that those dark eyes of his stared into yours. You could see the concern written into his features as he drew in a breath and continued. “There were pictures, pictures of you living your life. You can’t expect me not to worry about that.”

Crockett ran through them like a flipbook of polaroids in his head. You sitting at a coffeeshop around the corner from your apartment, waiting for him to brunch. You coming out of the library with that cute black and orange book tote that proclaimed ‘books are my bag’. The two of you kissing in the doorway of your apartment building, your back against the wall as he leaned in close. It pained him, that in that moment even he hadn’t realised you were being watched.

Seeing those pictures had triggered something inside of him, it sent his protective instincts into overdrive. He’d tried to get you to stay at his apartment, but you had refused. The fact you were fierce and independent was one of the things he loved most about you, right now though it was a pain in his ass. Hence why he was now in your apartment, checking that the windows were locked, and door bolted.

“So, your plan is to live with me from now on?” You commented wryly, tilting your head towards the olive-green duffle bag that was resting alongside your shoe rack.

“If that’s what it takes.” Crockett informed you.

You sighed before reaching out for him. You cupped his chin gently, your thumb trailing over the thin scars that marred his skin. He closed his eyes for a moment, revelling in the sensation of your touch.

“I can’t lose you,” he said quietly. “I don’t know what I would do without you in my life.”

He’d been so closed off before he met you. Always chasing a good time. The girls, the booze, the partying it had been a way of filling the hole in his heart after Harper had passed away. He wasn’t looking for anything more than that. Relationships were messy, he didn’t want feelings, he wanted that feeling you got when you walked into a place and the atmosphere was charged with excitement. He lived for those nights. It was the mornings he hated, the reality of it all. He was always alone and that was sort of the point, he told himself he liked the freedom, didn’t want to get tied down. Then he met you and that kinda went to hell.

The first time he had laid eyes on you had been in Molly’s, Joe Cruz had been celebrating the adoption of his son Javi and you had helped him to facilitate. You had given Crockett the run around when he approached you and he liked that. He was too used to getting his own way and you were refreshing. You weren’t a one-time thing, you’d told him. If he wanted you, he’d have to earn it, get to know you first and so your courtship had begun.

He’d been enamoured by you from the very beginning, you were fascinating and challenging, with a fierce intelligence and a wicked sense of humour. When he finally took you to bed, he reckoned it to a religious experience. There was liberation in caring about someone, in making love to them and he had forgotten that, how meaningful it could be, how much of a turn on. You’d tortured each other for hours that night, taking your time, studying each other like you were mapping out the constellations in the nighttime sky. You teased him to the point where he was delirious, crying out your name like a prayer when he finally climaxed. You had ruined him, he had known it in that moment, there would never be another woman after you. You had wrecked him for anyone else.

He whispered, as he clasped your hand to his cheek, his lips brushing over your palm.

I love you.

He spoke in Farsi. There was intimacy in that language, a depth and complexity that English just couldn’t seem to capture. You were the only one he had ever uttered them to, he knew that you would also be the last.

“One day you’ll have to tell me what that means.” You told him, with that radiant smile, the one that made him light up inside whenever he saw it.

“One day.” he promised.

i decided to unite my love for maps and for OT and make a map of the distribution of OT contestants from OT 2017 - 2023 in regards to their residence* because i find it so fascinating, like yeah it does kinda follow where major urban centers concentrate but also why is there so little people in valència? so many in iruña specifically? how is that outside madrid the only other OT contestant from castile is from guadalajara from all places???
