The vase had been valuable ; not in monetary worth so much as sentimental. She would have to explain the necessity of its unplanned destruction to the pirate captain she had promised its retrieval to. As it was, it lay scattered in pieces on the floor of her shop, shards of white and blue and green surrounding the body of a man.

A very unconscious man. Who would have a very big headache once he came to once again. Which would hopefully be some time from now. Enough time for her to exchange some words with the other man standing next to her, who was watching the very same thing and had made such a redundant remark.

A shame of the vase, truly. It would have fetched her a nice price, no doubt. 

“ You owe me two hundred pieces of eight, ” she told him, doubling the price, and speaking rather calmly for someone who had smashed a vase over someone’s head only a handful of moments ago. Gathering her skirts, she neatly stepped around the body, making a bit of a face as she did. “ One-eighty, if you get this brute out of my shop and into the alleyway before the evening bell sounds. ”

Reaching the door, Fran’s hands quickly and deftly set about locking it ; it would do little good for a customer to walk in and see the current state of things. She had a reputation to uphold, after all. 

“ Honestly, Jack, ” she sighed, turning around to lean back against the door, eyes bright with barely veiled amusement. “ Bring a woman jewels. Flowers. Honeyed words, if you are very desperate, hm? Not a man you owe… Did he say you took his goat? ”

Ah, but she had missed him.
