past week, dec 24.

actually i should have written this yesternight. but, these fuckers were dancing throughout the night and i was also sucked in, so i decided to dance too, and i got fucking wasted. as soon i hit the bed, i slept. lol. so here i am, writing this on a empty stomach. waiting for these people to shut up so i can eat my food in peace. vroski, i want peace. i want solace here, real solace bruh. i feel like i don't wanna do this anymore by xxxtentacion. current song playing - nova - whitley on loop. hmm, past week was exhausting ngl, i had to submit the engineering graphics on friday, right?. i did not do shit, all week. i had to calculate my time on how i was about to the work without missing my friday classes. then i woke up at 6 am on friday and aced all that stuff under 2 hours. and these fuckers did that shit all night, still they could not complete it. we had tests throughout the week. EE test got me fucked up bad, physics too. I scored a 6/15 on physics, by fucking studying on that day. like damn, i was expecting i'd get a two or three. but okay, i think i got enough. i just get more cold, as time goes over and over. this lyric is so fucking relatable lol. do i write my journals good? i feel like i need to exchange these with someone, more preferably with someone who i feel connected. lemme just go and get my fucking food. to be continued. so here i am, writing after eating my dinner and watching the fourth episode of arcane. damn this arcane so good bruh. anyway, we had tests and a hectic ass scheduled week, but now im glad its over and not so glad because another one is loading after this weekend. plus plus PLUS, we just got to know that we are having our midsems from 31st dec. like what the fuck bruh. we have papers on both the days, 31st and 1st. like fuck me. plus those two papers are the worst. fucking ME111 and PSC. i hate them both. very much. we had been told that midsems will be from 2nd Jan, not 31st Dec. fucking hell. fuck this college, seriously. current song - lil uzi vert - ashanti. song gets me so hyped lol. i dont know why i get so jolly while i reminisce about the old days. no matter how they were, good or bad, mostly bad, i would still want to go back to them. somewhere someone said that people like us see the world through rose-tinted glasses, thinking that everything was fine in the past, even when it was not. i dont even know why that happenss. anyway, i had some great moments too, went to surathkal with 2 of my other friends, ate some food there and then we went to the beach, where they give this nice cola for just 10 rs. so fucking fireeee. plus on today, this christmas eve, for the first time i actually went to a church and saw their celebrations. they were nice, some beautiful ladies singing the choir and the students in robes placing some kind of christmas paper on the chairs. the vibe was really nice. i liked it. i wanted the christmas feeling as some of my friends are enjoying themselves in kolkata. and here i am, in this fucking heat with no feeling that the year is ending. lol. i guess this christmas eve was a good day, and now i am feeling sleepy. i think i will write my journal next friday. lets see what happens then. take care, wherever you are. love you. -alister

Jury still out but league table reads well

A disappointing result last week against Millwall which just goes to show how open the Championship is this season. Two goals down in eleven minutes was always going to be a long way back even though we seemed to have done the hard work getting level before half time. The Lions were just too good for us on the day and fairly easily collected only their second away win of the season on the back of some very questionable North End defending. However that defeat aside, I think it is still game on for about 20 teams in the division as we enter this enforced break for what is turning out to be a very plastic World Cup. I know the points position is very tight in the division and three wins can move you up a dozen places but the table, at least, reads quite well for North End despite last weeks reverse. Its a very old cliche but I am sure most of would have taken this position at the start of the season in spite of the many ifs and buts surrounding the quality of the Championship this term. North End currently sit ninth in the table and are level on points with the final play off position, which, incidentally, is now Millwall. North End have accrued thirty one points from twenty one games which leaves us somewhere around the sixty eight points total at the end of the season if you extrapolate our current total out over the forty six games. Not quite enough, you would have thought, but still enough to encourage the club to dip in to the pot and make those couple of marquee signings which probably could make the difference between the play off or just another "decent" season.

The football style played is more open to debate and can be argued until the Cows come home although I can sort of see what Ryan Lowe is trying to do. I guess he will argue that he has not got all the right players to execute his plan properly but he has been here close to a year and that line of thought become weaker as each poor result comes in. I`m happy enough with Lowe at the moment and with the right strengthening we could just push those top six spots. In my experience you style of play doesn't always define you fully if the team are winning, It is when they are losing that you get exposed and there is no better example of that than John Beck. With Just five games to go before the Window officially opens (including the Stoke game) it must be the objective of the club to try and remain with or very close to the sixth place team and with the FA Cup on Jan 7th after it gives the club some time to strike early in the window and give the manager the help he needs.

As the football moves from Deepdale to Doha we move on to the age old question of "Can England win the World Cup?" Yes of course they can but whether they will or not remains to be seen. Southgate is very measured in his approach and love him or hate him he is this country`s second most successful manager ever in terms of what he has achieved. I think history will be kind to Gareth Southgate particularly keeping in mind that this is not the Golden Generation of English footballers but it is a squad with immense talent and if Southgate can take away fifty six years of pain over the next four weeks then history will look very kindly on him indeed. The Football Association was founded on the 26th October 1863. We gave football to the world 159 years ago, so on Monday, in Doha, Qatar, it really is time we started taking it back

And finally this week:- I noticed Pne-online are setting up a gofundme for the Blackpool game with the intention of creating a PNE Tifo on April 1st 2023. All credit to John Kelly and his team who have done some excellent work over the years to try and help the club on and off the field and initiatives like this always deserve backing.

Well that`s it from the blog for a couple of weeks while I take in the World Cup. We will be back in the week leading up to the Blackburn game.

Kaoru: Hi, this is Dir en grey's Kaoru. Have you heard of 'The Freedom of Expression' somewhere before?

K: I've a feeling we've done this before...

J: Thats right, yes...Its not a feeling, we actually did.

K: We are reviving the show we did on the radio station InterFM from 2015-16, on youtube this time.

J: Awesome

J: I was really happy when I was first told about the revival.

K: I was also surprised *laughs*

J: Its not that you were made to revive the show though, right Kaoru?

K: The suggestion just came at me.

J: Oh really, like 'How about it?'

J: Ah, in a Kansai accent?

J: Oh, is this the night shift season?

T: You worked for ￥1000 per hour right?

Kami: Yes, yes...my hourly rate has risen a bit though. They were telling me 'Take a rest, take a rest', so my income dropped.

J: Ahh, its what they called a 'reformed working style', right?

Kami: Right

J: Its tough for you too, Kami.

Kami: *laughs* Yes it is.

K: He's the same as ever...  so lets get started.

J, T: Please

K: Ah, by the way, Tasai san, as well as Bishbashi Dohashi san, wasn't there another person before (at InterFM)?

T: Yes..a beastly guy *K laughs* An old aquaintance of the listeners', a guy called Monster Hiranabe.

J: Its a strange story, but once when a certain celebrity died, Hiranabe-san called me up, and asked me if I had known the deceased guy...as soon as I said that I hadn't known him very well, he hung up on me straight away!

T: Thats awful!

J: He is awful

T: This very guy, Hiranabe, even got a promotion from the manager.

J: Eh? Promoted to what?!

T: To Director

J:Eh?! Really?

K: Is that okay??

J: No, it'll be terrible!

K: Right, lets move onto the main news...I'd like to get deeper into the concept of 'The Freedom of Expression'.

J: Right, so Haruna Fuuka has filed a lawsuit againts those who engage in 'internet slander'.

A tweet stated 'Both her parents created a failure'.

On Jan 14th, 18 year old Haruna and her mother filed a lawsuit at Yokohama district court demanding ￥2,654,000 in damages from a person engaged in spreading falsehoods which have damaged her dignity.

On the acknowledgement that these tweets went beyond what was deemed acceptable by society at large, on Nov 1st the internet provider was ordered to make public the persons name and address etc.

Haruna has been tweeting since the age of 9, giving her opinion at random about society's problems, and creating a stir. She now has over 200,000 followers and is fighting 10 years of slander. Kaoru, what do you think about this?

K: Well..I mean, naturally, you'd feel like that..

J: Hmm, but I don't know the details but..the name of the defendant has been withheld...well, its a common problem that as a person speaking in the public eye, you are going to get criticism along with praise...like a 'fame tax'.  That said, how far do you go before honour is damaged? On SNS, you are of course free to express yourself, you can write what you want, but the issue is what constitutes damage to honour. This might be a very difficult area in which to draw a legal line, but on the other hand, if you don't draw a legal line, things may escalate out of control...Kaoru, what do you think?

K: Well for example, if banter between friends is written down...controlling that...Its best not to look at whats written in the first place.

J: Ah, the person in question right? By the way Kaoru, its a strange question, but do you search for yourself online?

K: No, not really. I hear things, the office staff will tell me.

J: Oh, if anything is being said?

T: In the world of fame its quite true, that even if 98 or 99 opinions out of 100 are good, the one negative thing will stand out.

K: Well, yes, its the bad things that..

J: On the other hand, from the writers'  perspective at Tokyo Sports, how far are you willing to slander someone? You could write an article in a good or bad way..

T: Of course balance is important, but of course, if the courts want to complain to us, they can call us, and start an exchange, but in the case of slanders on the internet, its like, who do you complain to? So, if you ask celebrities, they will say Tokyo Sports slander is better than anonymous online slander because at least they can complain to our face.

J: Mm, absolutely. Just how far do we protect these tweets, these freedoms of expression? Its difficult.

K: Are these really 'expressions'?

J: Well, esentially, yes. When you say 'tweets' you think of nonsense, but really its media expressing things, or artists expressing things..

K: Yes, yes, you can get a sense of individual expression.

J: And this especially has the power to influence...

K: Yes, and people get swept up in it.

J: I think this is universal, but at the moment I think Japan is bit like a geyser, people will rush towards any incident and some will start complaining, I mean, I think its important to say what you feel, but its complaining without trying to solve anything, only satisfying yourself.

K: Thats it

J: Its sounds strange to say, but it ends like masturbation. If it turns into something towards a soloution its ok, but just creating thoughtless slander to satisfy yourself is questionable.

K: So its often said, if you continue the conversation only looking at the bad things, it can't be helped. There are also good people out there..you know, put more importance on those people. How to put it...its like we said before, if you focus too much on that one out of a hundred, its kind of rude to the other 99.

J: I see. Still this person has over 200,000 followers and its said she has been fighting slander for ten years.

T: She's always been a bit of a talking point online. I'll just search for her.

J: I also have Instagram, I do stuff to do with societal problems on The Dave Fromm show's youtube channel, and whenever I upload about it (on IG), my followers decrease!  *everyone laughs* Outrageously decrease! Im serious, despite getting so far, that channel updates every week, and with every update my followers decrease. Maybe people hate reading about societal problems..*to Tasai* What did you find?

T: So for example there was that thing recently about regulating gamers to 60mins per session, she had quite a few things to say about that, playing vs learning etc.

J: I see..Young people do complain, well you can't really tell here, but on the other hand, young people these days, i know they would hate us old guys talking about this, but young people apparently have three main taboos. The first is talking about sex, they dont follow this, the second is politics, they don't follow this either, and the other one is, they don't like being made to talk about the kind of things that they really need to be talking about...there seems to be this kind of trend. So i think in this way...theres a chance Haruna is getting right to the point of this. But certainly, applying the law in a way that recognises infringement/damage to honour by way of personal utterances has the potential to lead to restrictions on the freedom of expression. Its a difficult play off, isnt it?

T: Yes, it really is

J: Obviously, when it comes to race, or racial discrimination, there has come to be rules concerning hate speech and so on, but how far can you regulate one-to-one slandering, or..how far can you protect the person being attacked? Should the country or the judiciary decide this? Its difficult.

K: Kami, what do you think? Are you there?

Kami: Well, I hear slanders towards me all the time *everyone laughs* Like, god tells lies, god is useless, or even that there is no such thing as god!

J: Ahh, i see. They deny you!

Kami: Yes, thats it. If I care about those things, I lose!

J: Do you search for yourself online?

Kami: I do. *everyone laughs* ..and whenever I do its only ever those things that come up.

J: Ah of course...Kami, you have an exceptionally good handle on social media  dont you?

T: He's great

Kami: Ive got a good handle on it.

J: Do you use an iphone?

Kami: I have two.

J: God has two iphones! Thats brilliant.

Kami: Yep, I have two...im not allowed to use them while im working.

T: Does he have a contract? With his address and such?

J: I can't tell whether he's great, or whether he's not so great...

Kami: If i care, I lose...I prefer them to hate me, rather than to be indifferent to me.

K: Kami, what do you think about playing computer games for one hour?

Kami: If the kid is good at it, they should keep doing it.

T: I see, i see.

J: Ohh not sure about that. That seems a bit out.

Kami: No, i really think so. Skilled kids can carry on playing.

K: Should unskilled ones give up?

Kami: Yes, they shouldn't do it...When they play all day, and they just can't clear the level..that kind of kid.

K: Its a waste of time right?

Kami: Exactly, its a waste.

J: They should do something else?

Kami: Yes

K: You should quit if you have no talent for it?

Kami: Yes, yes, its talent.

J: Well, just getting off a nightshift must be tiring.

K: For us too, you know, we should try not to say 'stop it' too quickly...we have to keep it interesting.

Kami: It was interesting though, I was listening.

T: Oh thank you.

Kami: But don't tell lies about me.

T: If you thought it was interesting, you should write about it on your social media.

Kami: Yeh, everyone pretends on social media anyway, they won't know its me.

K: Well, that was the first episode of 'The Freedom of Expression' but, should I ask how it was..? *laughs*

J: But, being together again after a while was refreshing..

K,T: Yes, thats right

T: Im happy.

J: So am I.

2019 Writer’s Round-Up

I was tagged by both @pikapeppa​ and @elveny​ so I figured I’d better put some effort in and try to figure this out. It’s not going to be easy since I have my writings scattered everywhere, including handwritten snippets, but I’ll give it my best shot!

Word Count

I can only really get an approximate number for this since, as I mentioned, my writing is scattered all over. Having said that, I’ve gone through my Googledocs going back to January, checked 4TheWords, double-checked what I’ve posted on AO3, and skimmed my last 3 months of Tumblr Posts, and totally ignored my handwritten stuff (I’m not word-counting that for you :p).

After dividing the word counts from my collaborative Original Fiction pieces by 2, and adding it all together with the help of a spreadsheet...

Science Fiction!

I’m usually a strictly Fantasy writer in my original works, but @skekiss​ challenged me to try my hand at some Sci-Fi, and not only was it surprisingly fun, but it also didn’t turn out terribly, so I might do some more of that next year.

Favourite Thing I’ve Written This Year

My Favourite piece of Original Fiction was that Science Fiction piece my friend challenged me to do. It still doesn’t have a title, but here’s a snippet...

In the year 2421, the colonization of Mars finally became more than a simple societal need to expand, it also became a financially viable option for the over-crowded people of Earth.

The ship, destined to terraform Mars into a planet that humans could not only live on, but thrive upon, was named ‘The Scout’, and set out for the red planet in the year 2436, from a launchpad that had been constructed in international waters.

The Project was funded by nations from across Earth, and ‘The Scout’ was outfitted with the most advanced technology from all of the participating countries.

It was designed to be capable of terraforming Mars into a state that would allow for the development of permanent settlements in a sustainable manner, and construction was completed in under ten years.

The subsequent five years between it’s completed construction and the eventual launch date was spent finding and training a crew of over 3,000 officers, medical staff, scientists, and civilians from all walks of life so that they would be fully prepared for the challenges ahead.

It was a joyous and celebrated day when ‘The Scout’ launched from Earth, it’s state of the art quantum drive meant that travel to Mars would take the ship only sixty days.

Somewhere along their journey between the two planets, ‘The Scout’ encountered the sudden creation of a wormhole close enough to them to disrupt the ship’s controls and, unable to steer away from the pull of the forming singularity, the ship was pulled inside.

By chance, the addition of quantum energy from the ship’s drive core to the forming wormhole stabilised its throat long enough for ‘The Scout’ to emerge from the other side before it collapsed upon itself, stranding ‘The Scout’ and all three thousand souls in an unknown galaxy...

“Kelsey!”

The shout of her name drew her golden-brown eyes from the presentation, complete with an interactive holographic projection, to her employer.

He looked angry, she noticed, which wasn’t surprising really since he’d sent her to get fresh stock from the workshop an hour ago.

“Branner-”

“What do you think you’re doing, girl!?” he snapped as he used his broad shoulders and tall frame to force his way between crowds of early morning shoppers and over to where she was standing.

“Umm…” Kelsey turned her eyes back to the presentation for a moment, the display had continued to explain about ‘The Scout’s’ settlement on an uninhabited planet with permission from the other races of the odd galaxy they’d found themselves in.

The young children were chasing holographic stars and barely paying any attention to their own history, their supervising teacher looked ready to tear her own hair out, and Kelsey turned back to Branner guiltily.

“Nothing?”

He glared at her for a long moment, his own gaze flicking to the presentation and his eyes narrowing.

“Get those ship parts back to the stall, I’ll be along in a minute,” he growled, and Kelsey nodded, moving quickly past him and dodging the smack he aimed at the back of her head with practised ease.

As for fanfiction... I think my Favourite piece of 2019 is probably “Fascinating”. A little Solavellan one-shot I did about my favourite flirt with the bald elf.

Favourite Fic I’ve Read This Year

Asking the tough questions now... hmm. I do even less reading than I do writing when my depression flares up, but I’m gonna scour my AO3 for my top 3 of the year...

In no particular order;

1) Begin Again by Anthropasaurus A recent find of mine. There are only two chapters, but AO3 says I’ve visited this fic 7 times, so that should tell you how invested I am already. It looks like it’s going to be interesting and clever, so I’m excited to see where this one goes. Rating: M Pairing: Solas/Lavellan Tropes or Tags: Time-travel, Self Harm/Suicide mention, Angst, Slowburn, Fixit-Fic. Summary: “There’s a small moment, as you’re harvesting a person when you feel their soul almost literally in your hands. All you would need to do is cast your spell right at that moment. We know where my body and Solas were at that time. It’s the only chance we have Dorian.” The years following the Exalted Council had not been kind to Raven or Dorian. Years of thwarting Solas at every turn took everything they and what few allies still survived had. They all knew the end was drawing near and if they didn’t act fast, southern Thedas would fall. But not even Solas could have foreseen what would happen when the Veil fell. Her memories of Redcliffe paled in comparison to the atrocities that now spread across the land. The Evanuris were free and roamed the lands like a plague. Whatever plans Solas had had failed. It had been weeks since she had seen him on the edges of her dreams. She feared the worst.

2) Spark of Hope Series by Elveny I don’t read series often, I like all the story in one place, but Elveny’s Lyssa/Solas story just sucks you in, and you’re clicking “Next Chapter/Next Story” without even realising it until you’ve read the whole thing in one night and are DESPERATELY left wanting for more. *coughs awkwardly* It’s not finished, but there are 147,000 words (approximately) over 5 stories, and a new one coming sometime in 2020, so it’s absolutely worth reading. Rating: E Pairing: Solas/Lavellan Tropes or Tags: Anxiety/Panic Attacks, Emotional Hurt, Break Up, Prequel Story Included. Summary: Everything has gone wrong. Corypheus has opened the orb and the magic did not return to Solas. A giant Breach is throbbing in the air, threatening the whole of Thedas before he is powerful enough to do what he set out to do. Instead of following his plans, he finds himself in Haven, caring for an unconscious elven woman whose palm sizzles with green magic... his magic. He needs to keep her alive if he wants any chance to get it back. But then... she wakes.

3) Elastic Heart by cedarmoons I’ve read this half a dozen times, and the end of the first chapter STILL makes my heart stop >.< This is the fic that convinced me there were actually good Solavellan Writers hiding out there.  I’ve found many since then, but this was my launchpad moment. Rating: E Pairing: Solas/Lavellan Tropes or Tags: None Summary: For the DA Kinkmeme. After making love to Lavellan, Solas accidentally tells her his identity.

Writing Goals for 2020

At least, an easy question! Write More. I’ve had a rough year for writing with many depression flare-ups. I’m hoping that 2020 I can get back to a more regular schedule, starting with a whole day of it on Jan 1st, I’ve cleared my schedule to get some writing time in and have my fingers crossed that it will be a good starting point for the rest of the year.

Q1: If you could write your character your way in their own movie, what would it be called, what style would it be filmed in, and what would it be about? A1:  It doesn’t matter what I write, romance is usually central to the storyline, so it wouldn’t be any different with Saoirse. It would probably be a reverse harem style anime and all her party members would be beautiful men (standard archetypes) who want to protect Eorzea alongside her while vying for her heart. It would be called: All My Party Members are Bachelors. XD

Q2: What would their soundtrack/score sound like? A2: Probably a combination of Ayumi Hamasaki and Abingdon Boys School.

Q3: Why did you start writing this character? A3: She has a strong, bubbly voice and I spend so much time working on projects with more reserved heroines that it’s nice to break away from that without having to stress over my problematic perfectionism.

Q4: What first attracted you to this character? A4: I really like writing from the perspective of a character who doesn’t take herself too seriously…It makes writing dialogue enjoyable because I don’t have to stress about whether or not she’s actually funny so long as she finds herself amusing.

Q5: Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse. A5: Sometimes she’s a little too passive or naïve. I think part of that is because I’m so used to playing as a healer that I forget she can be strong in other ways.

Q6: What do you have in common with your muse?           A6: We’re both hopeless romantics and we both enjoy really simple humor…so easily amused.

Humanity at its best.

December 22nd 2019:

In Delray beach, South Florida I lost my mobile while I was in the water with friends and family. That was 5months old new iPhone XS. I dropped it in the ocean and couldn’t find. The waves were very high that day because of too much wind.

This was last photo with that phone in Delray beach.

I discontinued insurance few months before thinking insurance is unnecessary for me. Later realised the value of insurance though. However, was forgetting about this mobile with time. On January 11th got an email asking if I lost any mobile and asked to confirm the mobile made & lost date & time. I was little surprised as I didn’t make any police complaints since it was lost in ocean & not public place or somewhere else. Replied the email with the details I had. Later got a response confirming that someone found my mobile & trying to return it to me.

It was an unbelievable & also depressing moment as I was not sure how the mobile condition will be and whether it will be of any use or not. Later fixed a date to meet the person in a nearby Starbucks. The lady who found my mobile named herself as Jody. She came with her 95years old Mom. And here is the rest of the story goes -

Jody is staying near Delray Beach with her mother in a Condo. On January 1st she went for her routine morning walk on the sidewalk of Delray Beach and was taking few photos of Seagulls that day. Then suddenly a shiny reflection sort of she noticed in the beach. She took that object photo too & walked near to the object thinking that could be a nice seashells. But what she found was a garbage looked dirty mobile wrapped with sand and water. She took that and brought to her home.

That red circled object is the mobile.

She cleaned this first and Googled for some wet phone recovery suggestions. She found that putting the mobile in rice bag is a well recommended idea. However she had no rice in her home. She went to a grocery store picked rice and kept the mobile in a ziplock with rice for a week. In the meanwhile she contact police and police said they didn’t receive any lost mobile complaint but if she want she can drop that in Delray Beach police station. Thinking police will not be of much help she waited and after 7days she opens the mobile from ziplock bag and tried to charge the mobile in her friends house as she has no iPhone.

But the charging port and all around phone is filled with sand. She removed one by one sand with needle and after a day she tried charging and yes it was charging. She then contact Apple shop but they said they have no information about the owner. After looking into the sim she contact AT&T store and thereby she found my First Name, Last Name and masked email Id where only first and last letter was visible with @gmail.com appending at the end. She guessed it could be my full name and tried few permutation combination. And one try of her hit the target.

I thanked her many times for her humanity & dedication. Such a blessed soul she is.

Also the miracle is being under salt water for such a long time (Dec 22nd, 2019 to Jan 1st, 2020) more than 1 week the phone is working just like new. Camera, sound are just like they were before. And not even a single scratch on the mobile.

“A tremendous title fight, a buncha old dudes and moral dilemmas” UFC 237 preview

In many ways, UFC 237 is a unique card and yet it is, in many ways, a throwback card. This is the sort of show the UFC tries to pull off when it knows what the main event is and it knows that it needs some serious protection. In the old PPV era, this would be the kind of card where your mileage would vary depending upon how hooked up to a nostalgia drip you are. Nowadays with them getting a guaranteed payout before a PPV even sees the air, this kind of card feels retro. It's got a competent title fight with a bevy of names you'd recognize who fall on the spoiled side of their MMA expiration dates. It's like a Mighty Mouse card (albeit with a far more compelling main event) in a market that still has pings and feels for a show like this. Brazilians want to see their heroes and so the company is trotting out the likes of Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Lil Nog, Thiago Alves and a whole host of familiar names and faces potentially for the last time. It's Brazil vs the world (for the most part) with just enough good vibes and fair matchmaking to give the fans potentially one big feel good moment. I just also know that this card is for a very niche audience which you might not be in there.

Twelve Precarious Ponderings

1- If this show was on traditional PPV, how many buys would it get? Is 125K satisfactory given the conditions?

2- Rose Namajunas vs Jessica Andrade IS in all honesty a compelling title fight. It pits pretty much the division's top finisher (Rose Namajunas) against the division's top pressure fighter (Andrade) with the champion opting to face the champion on HER home turf, creating for a pretty compelling narrative to be told. They have more similarities offensively than people give them credit for; both Rose Namajunas and Andrade do their best work coming forward, pressuring albeit in different ways. They're cardio machines, cutting a pace early and dictating both the range and the tempo of the fight. For Rose, she's long enough and creative enough that its a pick your poison type affair. You can fight her at range, get picked apart from a distance with kicks and her really good straight shots OR you can blitz her, clinch with her and hope you're strong enough to win inside consistently. Andrade offers you no choice but to fight her fight for however long it goes. She cuts a relentless pace, has Mr. X level pursuit and while I think her power shouting vs Karolina was more of a perfect shot, she hits hard enough to break just about anybody. Even against Joanna, she still did her thing (pressure, come forward, blitz like a mad woman) which Joanna having the ability to win behind a tremendous jab and superior footwork. Rose CAN follow Joanna's gameplan of kicks + jab + circling for twenty five minutes, flustering Andrade from a distance but I'm not sure if she can do that while dealing with the pressure of Jessica Andrade for 25 minutes. Even against the likes of Tecia Torres and Joanna, Rose had those lapses in concentration where it felt like she stopped fighting her fight and needed to be reminded by her corner to mentally check back in. You have to be there every single second of an Andrade fight because she is a momentum creature.

3- Given how hard Andrade pressures and how long Rose is, I wonder if takedowns are going to be apart of the gameplan for Namajunas. Andrade's build and her wrestling normally prevent attempts but Rose is the better grappler by far who can probably score a finish in a variety of spots on the ground. Being underneath Andrade's ground and pound is a miserable endeavor BUT she's also reckless enough that limbs and necks get left out there for experienced enough submission artists. Could/Would Rose pull guard?

4- If Max Holloway is going to fight in Anaheim as he's suggested (Late August for those curious),  you have to assume that Volkanovski vs Aldo is a pseudo #1 contender fight. So what happens if Aldo wins? Is that where the UFC blows the dust off of Frankie Edgar?

5- Does anyone truly believe Anderson retires after this fight with Jared Cannonier?

6- Looking at this card on paper with its host of "legends" bound to generate some buzz in Brazil, it's a bummer they couldn't of found a way to get Johnny Walker on the card. Would've been a great rub for him with guys like Aldo and Silva on the show.

7- At some point Francisco Trinaldo is going to buck the conventional wisdom and fight like his age, right?

8- I don't know if it's the fact that they're both elder statesmen who fight younger than they are but look older than their birth certificates claim or the fact that both basically cut their teeth carving up mid tier dudes in their respective divisions but Francisco Trinaldo and Cowboy Oliveira sure seem to have a lot in common. Both are really aggressive somewhat limited guys whose limitations show up when they attempt to make the long march to the top of their division. Both Oliveira and Trinaldo rely on brute force strength with so-so fight IQ but a surprising wealth of ways to be violent if they so choose them. Trinaldo faces Carlos Diego Ferreira who burst onto the scene with the UFC and then just kinda stalled out in no small part due to injuries and one of those supplement suspensions. Carlos is coming into his own based off back to back wins vs top competition and while I don't know if he'll ever be a consistent top 10-15 lightweight, there's light at the end of the tunnel for him. This fight should be insanely violent in spurts.

9- Worth noting that if she beats Bethe Correia, Irene Aldana will be on a three fight winning streak which should put her on the short list for women to potentially challenge Amanda Nunes. Especially since beating Bethe seems to be one of those secret passageways to a title shot.

10- I've never seen a more desperate attempt to milk out a win for a guy than Lil Nog vs Ryan Spann. Even in his faded borderline decrepit form, Lil Nog should have very little issue taking a W here.

11- Thiago Alves vs Laureano Staropoli has some sneaky FOTN potential. Laureano is an all action pressure forward fighter who like most guys out of non-Brazil South America has no idea what he's not supposed to do. As such, anything is on the table and AS such he fights like a guy who has a penchant disregard for his well being. Thiago Alves is no longer the kind of guy who can casually eat up the Staropoli types of the world and his last few fights have basically been him trying to be a sharpshooting counter striker who throws power shots at will. It should be a fun fight at the very least.

12- And I guess we gotta end negatively with BJ Penn. There's no reason for this fight to be happening from a pure actual fighting standpoint. I read someone elsewhere mention how "frail" BJ Penn looks as a fighter and I truly lack an actual better description for it besides that. He looks weathered. He looks old. He looks like a guy who knows how to only do one thing and he can physically no longer do it at any rate of success. Whatever you think of the legacy of BJ Penn or however you feel about his right to compete, it shouldn't be happening anymore and at the very least not at this level. This doesn't even account for the fact that he has so much turmoil in his life and while allegations can sometimes be just that, we've got a whole forrest fire worth of smoke telling us something is wrong. We all just recently read Babalu discuss the problems he's facing currently in his life after a long career of fighting. It should make us all stop and reconsider whether there needs to be such arbitrary lines of when enough is enough and how we can find the bridge for these guys when the time has come. BJ Penn isn't fighting because the UFC thinks he can do it; he's fighting because if not here then somewhere else and because there's always going to be a market for seeing your "heroes" compete. There are BJ Penn fans who watched the third Edgar fight thinking he could pull it off, there are BJ Penn fans who watched thinking he'd turn back the clock vs Dennis Siver. The UFC gave him the SAFEST possible match up in a guy they didn't think would hurt him and it still ended in disaster.

And yet on the same card, we have Anderson Silva who is 44 years old coming ooff of multiple surgeries, a career that includes some truly violent spectacle fights in his earlier days who has been rocked or KO'd in four of his last six fights. He was apart of one of the more violent gym cultures in the history of MMA. His family apparently asks him to retire after every fight, now running on what feels like four years worth of it. So if Penn's gotta go then shouldn't Anderson go? Even if my eyes tell me that he's got more in the tank, we're still comparing two guys who are clearly either firmly out of gas or running on E. Is it the fact that Anderson Silva by all accounts is a well adjusted guy who isn't in trouble? I mean wouldn't that make you more likely to want him to hang it up so he can preserve the way he is? I don't have all of the answers and so much of this is just emotion. All I know is I hope that this card is very much the last of its kind; a farewell to a lot of guys who made a special time in MMA with also a promise to do better by them in the future.

Peleton News – Big tour a comin’

2018 was a year of pretty significant change for me.

I’ve left the comfort of the stationary cupboard and placed a foot in the direction of contracting. Good in many ways, variety of work, change of scene etc.. but non-the-less a little unnerving with its potential short-term nature. Still, one renewal down and all seems well.

Moley too has joined the same club. After years in comfortable bliss in the same old pair of shoes (so to speak), our chirpy pink cap potential has also embraced the new ‘gig economy’. We even share the same accountant and both now sound as wise as Clemo in the ‘tax efficient’ expense logging game.

We both now join the herd on the morning schlepp to London Bridge. The downside of this particular arrangements (for both Moley and I) is that time is increasingly pressed. I leave the house around 6am and am not back normally to gone 7. I think Moley may operate similar parameters.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a year where so many of my waking minutes have been occupied with doing stuff of one form or another. What I could often do with more than anything else is a bloody good sit down.

So, what of 2019. Well, my big goal is to smash last year’s woeful tour performance.

In Malaga I was fat (I’m guessing somewhere north of 92-93kg).. I had done little road riding (I think I may have troubled a road ride once before 2018’s unusually early tour).  And whilst a trainer road regime meant I could complete the test without bonking, I did struggle.

Even though I was a bit shit, I still put a shift in. The day Drip beat me to the water fountain (a mid-point on that particular ride) was the day I put myself well and truly in to the red. It’s a dark place to be when emptying the tank to the extent of then needing to actually lie down to recover, only gets you last place…..

Another indication of potential lack of form is the habit of nodding off in the sun after lunch. Luckily there were no sharp-eyed Peloton riders around to take a video, convert to GIF and then circulate on Whatsapp to highlight the poor nodding fat bloke in ‘lycra stretched over greed’.

It was still a great tour, but I have to confess that I missed Moley… he had called it a day whilst he was dealing with the maelstrom of a changing work landscape. He wanted to focus on getting work before focussing on getting pink.

I knew that if he had not done the training either, then I may have had some company at the back of the pack. As it was, I had to do with the humiliation of the ‘Peloton rota of shame’ as the main pack took it in turns to schedule some time with the wounded cub at the back. All very gracious about it they were too… except for Col Mac who came back and gave me a big push up the hill. The one thing you don’t need when sulking with your moobs and off the pace is for any of the team to come and say (in the form of a flat hand on your back) ‘for fucks sake could you ride any slower’….!

The sentiment was appreciated Mac, but by that point I was in the dark space of self-loathing!

So, this year JT and I have booked the tour a little later. 2019 also heralds the return of a ‘Grande Tour’. A big 5-day-er. Huge scenery, hard cycling. Relentless back-to-back days.

Make no bones about it, the Grande Tours are tough. Day 3 nearly always sees aching quads which are painful to touch.

In Malaga and probably Majorca too, you can get away with not training much and taking some lard into the hills. Try that little stunt on a the big one and it will be very hard yards indeed.

So, for 2019 I have a predication. I think this year will see the most preparation and the best level of general fitness across the group.

Clearly the average has been upped by the introduction of HRH. A man drafted in to cause much restlessness amongst the chickens at the front of the field. Hopefully the podium boys will be forced to actually put a shift in this year as opposed to casually dragging the rest of us along in their breeze.

When your mass is somewhere in the 70’s in the currency of the kilogram, you’re going to be doing just fine. Fresh from a year of skiing and snowboarding our pocket-rocket from the land of beer and meat will put in a bit of training and will be his usual excitable self in the top quartile.

I’d like to see someone push him into the hurt locker and keep him there for a while. Last time I saw that was in 2012 when a broken JT sat opposite me in a tapas bar in Palma.

It was very pleasant viewing from where I was sat. Very pleasant. ’d pay to see that again.

Drip

Excruciating back trouble at the end of 18 will hopefully right itself as Drip treads gently back into a training rota. As always, his rides will be short but frequent. He’ll do what he can. Will it be enough? His mental determination will bridge many a gap. Likely to perform well. Probably most excited in the group at the prospect of a Grande tour. All we need to do is add poker and it will be literally heaven for our recovering friend.

Damo

No booze. Cyclocross. Commuting. Cyclists mentality. It’s only going to be as hard as he makes it. He’s another one I’d like to see breathing out of his arse.

As usual the big question with Damo will be what sort of cycling exotica will be wheeling about on?

I live in hope to see him on a Di2 Evo Supersix HiMod.

Macca

A verbal pessimist pre-tour, expect the same this year. Still has robotic tendencies and whilst Trainer Road has almost eradicated that slow, powerful cadence, it occasionally creeps in to remind you that he is almost certainly non-human and better than you!

Always there or thereabouts.

Col Mac

Will married life impact the unusually consistent performance? Whilst he does his riding on flat-as-a-pancake courses, he seems to be able to translate this into decent mid-table performances on the big hills.

Took a massive brave pill by announcing his attendance on tour (which coincides with his 1-year wedding anniversary). He’ll be there and probably still married, but you can bet your arse he’s going to have to pay a price to his new bride for getting away with this little stunt! (Prada Shoes? Gucci handbags? Mac getting pegged from behind by the Mrs wearing a 12-inch black strap-on? All we can do is cross our fingers and pray for the latter….’go on love… make him squeal…!’).

RTA

At last, his ‘top of podium’ position is in potential doubt for 19. RTA will be what RTA always is… well trained… in good condition… and eye candy for any passing lovelies.  Huge pressure on his shoulders this year as he has to take on the responsibility of awarding the 2019 Pink Cap. Fuck, you don’t want to get that little decision wrong…. Remember the year Drip lashed it up and gave it to JT… ? That was the year where I had three refund requests from disgruntled Peletonistas.

(In fairness, the 3 requests where all from me… anyway… it was still a shocking decision).

There is still a twinkle of hope that he will take the baton and arrange a curry night. Be a real pity to revoke the 18 cap because of a ‘failure of office’.

Moley

1st of Jan sees the heralded return of Moley to his beloved Turbo (clothes horse/cat scratching post/paperweight).  Like Harry Potter emerging from the under stairs cupboard, the Turbo is about to see the light of day and the power of the Moleman’s quads as he embraces the 19 campaign.

Much chattering about getting ‘ski-fit’ first (I have no idea what that means), but if Moley decides to make a go of it, me and Drip are proper fucked.

HRH

Tour virgin and in my book, straight in as favourite. Big expectations hover over our blue-blooded London commuter.

We need him to properly tear it up at the front of the pack. I want to see a hard pace set with JT, RTA, Macca and Damo blowing to keep up…. And then I want to see them individually dropped.

I’m half-considering getting an electric bike and a go-pro so I can capture the magic as it happens.

As it is, myself and chums at the back of the pack will just have to revel and enjoy the delicious tension when we arrive at a coffee break to a table of riders not talking to each other and HRH desperately trying to make small talk. I literally cannot wait.

now that we’re on the same page, lets get into it

so i dont have to explain all the reasons why this year sucked bc u just need to google 2020 and there will be a million reasons why it was TOTAL FUCKING GARBAGE...... usually when so many people collectively say a year sucked ass, i can be like “oh it wasnt *all* bad for me, personally” haha not this year!!! 

its super fucking depressing to look at how hopeful and positive i was about 2020 a year ago..... ofc there was no way for me to have known it would all go to shit but i still really appreciate the tone i had set... reading over the previous reflections and seeing how harsh and negative i was @ myself made the softness of last years post super refreshing.... 

now i said i dont *have* to explain all the ways 2020 was shitty, but i am gonna explain the biggest reason this year was shitty for me, personally..... it might seem really small in comparison to the ways 2020 was shitty as a whole on like a global scale? but really the biggest reason 2020 sucked ass was i didnt get to really hang out with any of my friends in real life for 9 out of the 12 months of the year.... and really it was like the first week of march that shit hit the fan so like really it was only 2 months that we got to see each other....... if u rmbr p much every previous retrospective post ive made, there was a big emphasis on friends..... ive come to realize that im actually a very *extra*verted person??? despite my overall shyness and homebody attitude, i would always choose to hang out with people over being alone so stay-at-home orders FUCKING SUCKED??? when we all thought it would be over in a couple weeks, maybe a month it was fine?? hey its a good time to draw or catch up on that reading and/or writing i said i was gonna do maybe even start learning to drive?? it’ll be no big deal THEN it wasn’t over in a month and it wasnt gonna BE over anytime soon and no one important was doing anything about it and its an election year and black lives have always mattered and yet everything is so uncertain and

SO instead of making myself CRY..... lets try to think about any GOOD things that happened and think about what we can do to make 2021 good for ourselves:

GOOD THINGS THAT HAPPENED:

-i *didn’t* lose my job!! sad that so many others cannot say the same but im trying to make myself feel *better* not WORSE so i got to keep my job and i actually work more hours than before so!!

-i actually *did* learn to drive this year!!!! and im pretty good at it??? for someone that just started this year anyway?? i probably *would* have my DRIVER’S LICENSE right now if it weren’t for a surge in cases in a certain STATE that i happen to live in......... but w/e its fine i get more time to practice and im ~~**DEFINITELY**~~ going pass my test and get my license ~whenever it is that i can reschedule my dmv appt~

lmfao its so funny that last year, i was absolutely *dreading* learning to drive but i so fucking get why everyone was like ‘you need to learn how to drive’ i legit love it so much???? ive always been a car person but that was like purely for the aesthetic but now that i can drive im just....... WOOOW this really is what freedom feels like.... like ik that public transportation is amazing and i will always champion it but nothing beats being purely in control of your destination.... i also wanted to buy myself a car for my birthday even tho i couldnt really drive yet but then sien had to fix smthg on her car and it was EXPENSIVE AF and my mom was like “u dont need to buy a car yet” so i put the brakes [haha] on that... but soon... once i get my license,,, then i will have u my love................. so with that being “my most serious goal of 2020″ im glad i did it

-i had mentioned playing dnd last year too and thats been going STRONG as hell thank goodness....... we couldnt keep playing in person but when we moved it to online, not only did we actually get to hang out a lot more, we made more friends??? introduced new people to the group?? its so good and in fact probably the only thing that kept me even a little bit sane this year...... 

-this is more of an honorable mention than an accomplishment but im this 🤏close to catching up with critical role and thats partially thanks to the pandemic lmao sooooo ??? 

aaaaaaand thats p much it lol i didnt really accomplish any of my other goals bc reasons................. but!!! as cliche as it sounds, with a light at the end of the tunnel, im confident that i can turn that all around this year.... so if 2016 was the year of change, 2017 was the year of getting used to shit, 2018 was the year of getting *too* used to shit and 2019 ended up being the year of friends, 2020 was the year of absolute shit and it doesn’t fucking count....... i learned a lot this year, biggest lesson of all is that life is short and if i were to have died at any point last year, what the fuck would i have to show for it??? so usually i end up giving a theme or name to a year after its done but this time im determined to make 2021 into what i want it to be SO i am declaring this year, the year of our lord 2021, the year of new experiences!!!! what the fuck does that mean you ask? well ill tell you!!! im gonna try new things this year!! make a very pointed effort to do things outside my comfort zone?? and for my goals this year, im going back to my old way of making a huge list of stuff u wanna do and seeing how much i can actuallly accomplish!! now i said theres a light but we really dont know when all this shit will end and life will go “bAcK tO nOrMaL” so whos to say ill get to accomplish any of it? at the same time, there are plenty of stuff on the list that i can do within the pandemic set parameters so!! lets see this list!!

Aleister Crowley Factsheet

'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law'

Aleister Crowley (Edward Alexander Crowley) was born 12 October in the same year as the foundation of the Theosophical Society (1875), at Leamington Spa at 11.30 pm. He was therefore a Libran with Pisces moon and Leo rising. Contrary to popular legend, he died on the 1st December 1947. A review in Cambridge University magazine Granta of 1904 provides some guidance on the pronunciation of the great man's name: 'Oh, Crowley, name for future fame!/(Do you pronounce it Croully?)/ Whate'er the worth of this your mirth/It reads a trifle foully.'

The myth of the magus has grown to prodigious proportions in the half century or more since the old man's death. Crowley is now firmly established in the popular mind as a folk hero (or anti hero?), transmogrified to an icon on a spectrum somewhere between 'the sandman' (Clive Barker version) and 'the gringe'.

To many, Crowley's magick (I am using the archaic form of the term as popularised by AC for technical reasons), provides a neat dividing line between some kind of urban high magical tradition and the supposedly more earth centred styles of neo-paganism. The truth is, as always, a lot more complex. Crowley's magick draws all of it's power from nature, see for example an ancient Egyptian formula: 'so that every Spirit of the Firmament and of the Ether: Upon the Earth and under the Earth; on dry land and in the Water: of whirling Air; and of rushing Fire and every spell and scourge of God may be obedient to Me.' (1)

Crowley spent all of his moderately long life exploring countless dramatic astral and mundane landscapes in search of gnosis. It's a shame he wasn't a good enough travel writer to communicate fully in his many books the real majesty of nature. He seemed to go everywhere, from the deepest jungles to the highest mountains of the earth. An account from Jan Fries' book Visual Magick, amply demonstrates that Crowley never quite lost the taste for the great outdoors and the spirits of nature. In 1925 the mage took the leadership of the 'Fraternitas Saturni on a long walk up the garden path and into the forest. Whenever Uncle Aleister noticed a remarkable plant, stone or tree, he graciously lifted his hat to greet it. This bizarre behaviour apparently astonished his fellows. Some novices, we are told, dared to whisper "What is the master doing?" "The elemental spirits of nature have come to see the master" was the reply "and Sir Aleister is acknowledging their greeting." The whole incident including a rather nice ritual is to be found in an article on 'Pentagramme Magick' in Praxis (1963).

Towards the end of his life Crowley began to lose interest in the Ordo Templi Orientis and other organisations he had fashioned as potential vehicles for the dissemination of the great work. He met Gerald Gardner and together they may have devised a plan to transform the OTO into a more popular witchcraft cult. Gardner duly bought a charter and rose rapidly through the grades, even travelling to America to meet other OTO initiates. Fred Lamond, one of Gardners first acolytes, recalls that American adept Jack Parsons looked very favourably on the idea of a new witch cult. If Crowley had lived long enough to complete Gardner's training, modern paganism would undoubtedly look quite different, but that's another story.

Crowley Today

Aleister Crowley may have died in 1947, but his influence is still very much felt by the magician of the 1990s. The CD soundtrack The Beast Speaks sold 8000 copies since its release in 1993, and the paperback edition of Crowley's Confessions was number two in Virgin Megastores top ten books. Don't be fooled into thinking that the magician of the nineties is a slavish follower or member of some mind bending cult. Crowley's word was Thelema (The Crowleian pronunciation is Theh-LEE-mah, the accent bewatching on the vowel of the second syllable, Greek speakers ay the accent should be on the vowel of the first syllable for it to be pronounced right....ThEH-lee-mah) - which means [free] Will. Those who choose to follow this magical path aim to de-condition themselves, to develop independence of spirit and ultimately to become their very own self. One of the many attractions of Crowley's type of Magick, was this advice to follow one's own way and create your own life style. You don't need a priest or a judge to tell you how to act - work it out for yourself.

As part of the process of developing self knowledge, Crowley advocated the practice of Magick. This he defined as 'the science and art of causing change in conformity with will.' The history of magick is the history of human beings. Many of the things that are now labelled 'culture' began as experiments in ritual and magick viz. drama, music, art, dance, philosophy and poetry etc., etc. Magick has played a role in many key moments of our history, for example during the fourteenth century, it was the philosophy of the Renaissance. In our own time, many modern art movements have been driven by magical ideas, for instance, the first abstract painting was made by the Theosophist Kandinsky. Magick is a valuable and reputable activity to undertake.

Crowley's Books

Whatever else one can say about it, magick certainly is not a mass activity, neither is it a spectator sport. Magicians are in many localities in a minority of one and have to teach themselves the skills traditionally part of the art viz. trance, divination, invocation and creative imagination. The solitary magician gathers most of his or her information from books and Crowley made a substantial contribution to the vast number of books on the subject. Most of his books are now in print, something like 100 titles. The secondary literature of commentaries and studies, as one might expect after more than 50 years, is very extensive indeed. However there is no need to read everything the master wrote. There are a handful of key texts that should give you a good grounding in the man and his magick.

Sadly, there is still no really objective biography of Crowley. The standard biography is John Symonds' The Great Beast, (lastest edition of which is entitled King of the Shadow Realm) which records all of the salient facts but is very hostile to Crowley's ideas and therefore gives a lively but unbalanced picture. Jean Overton Fuller's Magical Dilemma of Victor Neuburg is slightly more objective and written with much inside information. A modern attempt is the late Gerald Suster's Legacy of the Beast, which is too short to cover all the facts, and too sycophantic -nevertheless, it is not without value. Gerald Suster also wrote Crowley's entry in Dictionary of National Biography - Missing Persons (OUP 1993) which is also worth a read. Incidentally, 1993 was also the year in which Crowley made it to the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations for the first time with his motto 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.'

Several newer biographies have recently appeared, two in particular are worthy of note: Martin Booth, A Magick Life and said by some to be the best of the whole lot: Do What Thou Wilt by Lawrence Sutin for St Martin's Press.

There is a 2004 reissue of Megatherion by Francis King, published by Creation Press, which was originally published in 1977 under the title The Magical World of Aleister Crowley. There is also an excellent study of Aleister Crowley's followers in America during the Golden Age of Hollywood, entitled The Unknown God, W.T. Smith and the Thelemites by Martin P. Starr, published in 2003 by The Teitan Press, Inc.

The modern generation of Thelemites, admires something in the spirit of Crowley rather than the word. He could be a interesting writer but as is often the case, the present day re-working of his material is often easier to follow and less peppered by some of Crowley's offensive cultural baggage. Writers such as Jan Fries in Visual Magick and Jack Parsons in Freedom is a Two Edged Sword, seem to have a better understanding of the magical philosophy for which Crowley was a conduit. However, you will undoubted want to make your own mind up in this, so apart from biography and if you have the stamina his massive autobiography, and the following are Crowley's principal works.

1. Magick - alternatively called Magick in Theory and Practice -or Book Four. This is his textbook of magick, leads the reader from basic yoga techniques through Golden Dawn type ritual to his own unique gnostic rituals, many of them with veiled sexual content. But beware, this is not a book for the beginner and you might do well to ask a more experienced magician to suggest a study plan for it beginning with Liber O, or even look at some of the secondary literature first. For example see Lon DuQuette's The Magick of Thelema or Israel Regardie's Middle Pillar, Eye in Triangle, and others.

2. The Book of Thoth, along with the tarot cards of the same name, is his brilliant study of the tarot, difficult to follow in parts if you have no familiarity with his 'Thelemic' imagery, but well worth persevering with. The tarot deck he created with English 'surrealist' Lady Frieda Harris, is fast becoming the most widely used esoteric tarot deck in the world.

3. 777 and other Qabalistic Writings. A essential summary of his symbol system, which also contains a reprint of Mathers' instructional essay on Qabalah.

4. Holy Books of Thelema - all brought together under one cover, including Liber al vel Legis - Book of the Law. The mystical poem that formed the core of Crowley's magical system. 'Delivered' to him by discarnate entity Aiwass during one of the most important mystical experiences of his life.

Crowley's People

There are a small but growing number of groups, based in this country that work with Crowley's ideas. The following list is not exhaustive, but gives some of the main contact points. It is recommended that you do not atttempt to join all of them at once.

OTO This stands for Ordo Templi Orientis (Order of the Eastern Temple). A magical order, based on eastern eroto-gnostic techniques, some derived from Tantrism. Existed, long before Crowley came on the scene but soon became the principle vehicle for his magical work. Has undergone a big revival over the last ten years. Perhaps it is fortuititous that the OTO split into several rival tendencies following the death of Crowley's successor, Karl Germer. Many magicians feel that magical orders, structured on medieval lines, may not be the appropriate vehicle for Thelema. But as things stand the aspiring candidate must make a choice after investigating and weighing up what both groups have to offer, if anything. In England there are two main groups claiming title to Crowley's mantle: In other parts of Europe and the world, other OTOs exist and can claim priority. There are currently legal threats flying between these groups, so I hope I get it right.

i. OTO 'Caliphate' - BM Thelema, London WC1N 3XX - International HQ: Postfach 33 20 12 D-14180, Germany. More 'traditional' if it can be termed so. Uses original OTO Masonic style rituals and charges annual subscriptions and initiation fees.

ii. OTO 'Typhonian' BM Starfire, London WC1N 3XX. Ruled by famous occult scholar Kenneth Grant, whose book Aleister Crowley & the Hidden God, revolutionised the understanding of Crowley magick. Ditched the old Masonic style rituals in favour of the syllabus very like the Argentinum Astrum, i.e. individual graded magical practices leading to adeptship.

Non OTO Thelemic Groups

Apart from the 'OTOs' there are a number of 'new wave' magical groups and orders that are trying to refashion the occult community on more 'rosicrucian' lines, which seem more in tune with modern needs. Strict hierarchies, authoritarianism and obscurantism are definitely out. An honest attempt to build a fellowship or sodality of magicians is on the cards. Amongst these are:

Chaos Magic and the Illuminates of Thanateros (IOT)

C/O, BM Sorcery, London WC1N 3XX, Another important new style of magick that has developed out of the Thelemic one. Other influences include new physics and European shamanism.

The Kaula-Nath Community (including AMOOKOS). C/O PO Box 250, Oxford, OX1 1AP. East- West tantrik groups, founded by Dadaji, one of Crowley's disciple's in the 1930s who, on the master's advice, went to India and became a sadhu. A unique blend of western occultism with authentic magical Hinduism. Has an older equivalent of Crowley's 'Law of Thelema' - viz: svecchacara - 'the path of ones own will'.

Crowley and the Media

There has been precious little media attention to Crowley, there is still no film or documentary devoted in entirety to Crowley's life. This situation is changing slowly. In year 2000, BBC Scotland made a short documentary about Boleskine, Crowley's house on the banks on Loch Ness. The show was called The Other Loch Ness Monster, but the BBC have so far refused to show it outside of Scotland. Channel Four have filmed a more thoroughgoing documentary although broadcast has again been delayed due to editorial difficulties. It will eventually appear as part of a series dealing with occult themes. BBC Modern Times are currently filming a fifty minute piece on serious magick, which will include a fair amount of material on Crowley. There are been one or two short radio pieces and an interesting stage play by Snoo Wilson some time back. Snoo Wilson appeared in a fifteen minute broadcast for UK's Channel 4 (text reprinted in Thelemic Magick I fromMandrake of Oxford.) Snoo Wilson's Novel I Crowley, has been published to critical acclaim and should go into production as a feature film. It is based on events at the Abbey of Thelema in Sicily.

Obtaining Useful Books etc

Books by and about Crowley are now widely available in UK booksellers such as Waterstones, Borders, Ottakar's etc. The best selection is still to be found in specialist bookshops such as the world famous Atlantis Bookshop, 49a Museum St, London WC1, and Watkins Bookshop, 19 Cecil Court, London WC2 4EZ, as well as several others throughout the UK. However, if you don't live in London or getting to a bookshop is difficult, there are several good mail-order suppliers, including Mandrake of Oxford (mandrake@[removeme]mandrake.uk.net) which is run by and for working magicians. (ABC News) – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are expecting their first child and it’s the most exciting news since, well, the most recent royal baby.

Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, announced the pregnancy in October, just as they kicked off their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.

Meghan’s every move has been scrutinized ever since, from her maternity fashion choices to her bump cradling. Through it all, Meghan has kept up a relentless pace of engagements, including the recent announcement of her four charitable patronages.

As we await the birth of the royal baby — aka Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis‘s cousin — here is everything we know so far.

When the baby will arrive

Meghan told a well-wisher during a recent visit with Harry to Birkenhead, Merseyside, that she is due in April.

When her pregnancy was announced in October, Kensington Palace said only that Meghan was due “in the spring.”

Where the baby will be born

Kensington Palace has not announced where Meghan plans to deliver her first child.

Meghan’s sister-in-law, Duchess Kate, gave birth to all three of her children at the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital Paddington in London, where the late Princess Diana also delivered both Prince William and Prince Harry.

Meghan and Harry may also choose to deliver their baby somewhere else in London or somewhere closer to their new home in Windsor.

How the baby’s birth will be announced

When Meghan gives birth, Queen Elizabeth and the royal family will be notified before a public announcement is made.

Meghan and Harry could follow tradition in publicly announcing the birth by having a statement posted on an easel in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. They could also choose to do things their own way.

When each of William and Kate’s three children were born, a statement was posted at Buckingham Palace, bells tolled, and there was the traditional gun salute as the country celebrated the new heir.

Where the baby will live

Harry and Meghan will soon move to Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Estate, about 30 miles from London.

Windsor is home to Windsor Castle, the largest occupied castle in the world and a special place for Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Meghan and Harry’s wedding last May took place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

“Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate,” Kensington Palace said in a statement announcing the move.

How the baby may make history

U.K. media outlets have reported that Meghan and Harry’s baby will hold dual American and British nationality, a first for a royal baby.

Meghan, a California native, will reportedly still be waiting on her application for British citizenship to be approved when she is due to give birth.

At the time Meghan’s engagement to Harry was made public in November 2017, Kensington Palace announced that Meghan would become a naturalized citizen of the U.K.

Despite marrying a member of the British royal family, she still has to pass a test on British culture, history and traditions in order to become a U.K. citizen.

Meghan will be compliant with all U.K. immigration requirements as she undergoes the process of becoming a British citizen, which can take several years, Kensington Palace said in November. She will retain her U.S. citizenship during that time.

Where the baby will fall in the line of succession

The boy or girl will be seventh in line to the British throne, after its grandfather, Prince Charles, uncle, Prince William, three cousins, George, Charlotte and Louis and its father, Prince Harry.

The baby will not automatically be a prince or princess, but its great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, can step in to give the baby that tile.

What leave Meghan, Harry will take after the baby is born

Kensington Palace has not yet announced maternity and paternity leave the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to take after the baby’s arrival.

Being a member of the royal family is not a job that comes with established maternity and paternity guidelines. Both Kate and William took some time off after the births of each of their three children.

It will be up to Meghan and Harry to decide the length of time they take off from public engagements.

Meghan has been busily working throughout her pregnancy, recently announcing her four charity patronages.

Who will support Meghan, Harry as new parents

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, lives in Los Angeles, but there will be plenty of room for her to stay at Frogmore Cottage should she travel across the pond to help Meghan, her only child.

Who the baby’s playmates may be

Meghan and Harry’s child will have built-in playmates with its cousins, Prince George, 4, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, who will turn one in April, all living nearby in Kensington Palace, which is about 30 minutes from Harry and Meghan’s home at Frogmore Cottage.

There will also likely be family holidays all together at Balmoral, the Queen’s estate in Scotland, and those famous royal Christmases at Sandringham House.

Status Report

TLDR: The big Dad cannot support me financially for much longer and I explain what exactly that means for us. I disclose how much I have earned in the last year, paint a best case as well as a worst case scenario, explain how you can help if you so desire and talk about my overall business philosophy. I also included a FAQ section in the end. Ladies and gentlemen, we hoped the day would never come. But last week the big Dad told me that he sadly couldn’t do it anymore. For the past two years he generously backed me every month, while I streamed 6 days a week, 6-10 hours a day. I will be forever grateful for how much he has done for me, allowing me to chase this dream of mine. But he had a tough year and me constantly draining his wallet every month hasn’t helped.  We both hoped I would grow quicker than I did, but that doesn’t mean that I’m giving up here or that my chances of ever making it are all that slim. Let me show you the numbers. I am showing you this because a) I think it’s interesting and b) because I want to show you that the curve is clearly going up. I don’t have the numbers for 2016, but it looked pretty much like February to May, I probably made less. The big jump in August can be explained by the fact that I got my sub button in June and Twitch keeps the money for 2-3 months in case of refund requests or whatever else can happen to that money. Looking at these numbers I can’t predict the future, but I want to believe. I want to look back at where we were a year ago and where we are now and hope that a year from now things are looking even better. I’m not sure if the channel grew at a slow pace or at a quick one, I have no idea what the average growth rate for streamers like me is and how big of an issue it would be if others grew quicker than me. I don’t really care either. What I do care about is that the past two years were the best of my life and I would absolutely passionately hate to ever stop. Even the thought of streaming less makes my heart cramp a little, because I’m worried that only 4 hours per day or only 3 days a week (or whatever else we might end up doing if we have to) would turn the steady growth of our community into a slow decline. Is that likely? I wouldn’t know, I’ve never tried streaming less before. So - what now? The big Dad was kind enough to ease me into it instead of suddenly cutting off all support. What that means is that according to my calculations I will need to earn about 600 € per month starting in March. 900 € starting in June. 1500€ starting in October. Clearly that is not gonna happen just by streaming, I’m not about to ask you guys to suddenly give me 10 times as much money as you have so far. As a matter of fact I will have to find a dayjob, no matter what happens. However! I still have about 2000€ saved up. The big Dad took care of rent, insurance, etc over the past two years and provided 500€ per month on top of that for me to spend on food, energy drinks, etc. Given that I have money leftover I clearly don’t need 500€ per month, but I felt it would be better to calculate with those numbers instead of shaving off every last cent and then having to realize after 6 months that I was too optimistic. I bring up those 2000€ because that effectively means that I can keep streaming for at least another two months, no matter what. Of course I will. However, sooner or later I will run dry and have to find work. I’m not afraid to not find anything, I’ve done a hundred jobs before I started streaming and I’m confident I can find something immediately if I have to. The question is how much the schedule will suffer because of that. Worst Case I have to take a fulltime job. 40 hours every week, it pays enough for me to get along, but I come home tired everyday and then maybe sit down and stream for 2-3 hours, possibly not even everyday. Even in that case I will live just fine. I won’t go hungry and I won’t have to sleep under a bridge, but I will miss you guys like hell. And worst case many of you will eventually stop missing me and the whole thing dies a slow and painful death. Best Case I have streamed for another three months - and with your support maybe even 4 or 5 - and since then the community has continued to grow and I can now comfortably work for only 30 or even 20 hours per week and still stream a good amount, most people don’t even notice that my dayjob makes me stream a little less. We continue like that for another year or two and eventually I quit my dayjob again because by now I don’t need it anymore. Realistically speaking we will probably end up somewhere inbetween those two extremes. I have always strongly believed in the way I run my stream and that includes how I treat financial support, subscriber goals, etc. This blog entry on its own is already almost violating those beliefs. Accept gratefully what you are given, do not ask for more. I have seen too many people try to milk their audience at one point or another and I would absolutely hate to have any of you feel like I’m doing the same now. So if you are even the slightest bit unsure if you want to support me or not, please don’t. The Donate-Option is only for those that want it, and always will be. However if you always felt like “nah, his dad is taking care of it anyway.” - Well the times of milk and honey are sadly over. Glhf to all of us. :P FAQ “So basically you are asking us for money because you don’t want to get a proper job like the rest of us?“ Yes and no. Obviously I want to keep streaming as much as possible and having a job at the same time makes that impossible. However I never wanted to ask people for money, I even refused to get a donation button for the first 4 months because I felt like I “wasn’t good enough yet”. Even now writing this is something I do because I have to, and be it only because if I dont explain it right away, I will have to do it anyway once people start asking why the schedule got butchered and left to die in a corner. I have no idea how likely this is, but by far my biggest fear for the future is that a radical change in schedule could turn a slow and steady growth into a sudden decline alà “well, he’s gonna stop soon anyway, might as well find a new guy to watch”. Some of you might smile right now and think that I’m an idiot and that I worry too much. Others might have already left, it’s not like I can tell. “I am a subscriber already, and I watch a lot, I’m somewhat surprised your income isn’t already higher given how many subs you have.” You are forgetting that the sub button, while certainly effective at killing aliens, comes with it’s downsides. Twitch and I have a 50/50 split, so for every 5€ that you lose, I get about 2,50. Possibly less, there’s no easy way for me to tell if there’s additional fees, I just get for example 120€ at the end of the month and I have to assume that subs and bits added up to that amount. In comparison, if you give me the same amount using the donation button below the stream, I receive between 4,30€ and the whole 5 €. Even though I’m not sure how that is possible, but my Paypal history shows me that that has happened every now and then. Maybe Paypal had a Happy Hour at some point. Of course - if you use the Donation Button instead of the Subbutton, you don’t get the emotes, and the sub streak message, and the fancy subbadge, etc. It’s your call, but if you want me to keep streaming, one option helps more than the other. “Matt, I read through all of that and you should really do X. HERE'S WHAT I JUST REALIZED ABOUT PUBLISHERS

Software and content blur together in some of the most characteristic solutions are not far removed from spoken language that it couldn't be fixed sentence by sentence. I'm not too worried yet. One of the biggest obstacles to creating startups in Europe is the attitude toward employment. They are to the startups of the Bubble what bloggers are to the print media. Paradoxically, fundraising is this type of distraction, so try to minimize that too. Whereas it's easy to raise angel rounds about half the size of series A rounds take so long, but at the end of each film, so they don't need publishers. Something was happening in Florence in the fifteenth century. Experts expect to throw away some early work. Pretty soon you'll start noticing what makes the number go up, put a big piece of paper on your wall and every day plot the number of simultaneous users will be determined by the amount of memory you need for each user's data.1 How much are you supposed to like what you do? Day 30 and Day 31

Saturday 29th February and Sunday 1st March 2020

So our weekend in Ghent, what a lovely city. But firstly I shall go into some history of Ghent, because all good towns in Europe have a pretty fascinating history. Ghent is one of Belgium's oldest cites based in the Flemish Region and the historical capital of Flanders. Ghent built its fortune through trading in the middle ages and was virtually independent until 1584. Ghent was one of the richest and largest cities of Northern Europe during the middle ages. Apparently, there is evidence that there was human presence in Ghent going back as far as the Stone Age and the Iron Age. The architecture is mainly of the Medieval era but there are some gothic influences in there too. A lot of the buildings are still intact within the central area of Ghent. One major building landmarks built in the Medieval style is the Gravensteen Castle - moat and all - which dates from 1180, it was initially a residence for the Counts of Flanders but had a checkered history and has also been a court, prison, mint and even a cotton factory. It is currently a museum for us tourists! Which Benoit and I made the most of! There were many lives lead out within this castle, including stories of elopement, affairs, and torture, like all good medieval castles should have. There was even a torture chamber, which was a symbol of abuse of power, feudal repression. Apparently ‘Count Philp the Good’ found his wife with another man, and tortured him publicly for two days, before strangling him in the courtyard and then burning him.. obviously, Philip wasn’t that good. 

Ghent is also a city based on Religion and is home to three large beguinages, which have been recognised as World Heritage Sites. It is also home to the famous Ghent Altarpiece, the ‘Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’ a large 15th-century painting, painted by the Netherlandish painters, and brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck. It is considered a masterpiece of European art and one of the world's treasures. There are so many symbols and parts to this painting that I can’t even begin to describe it here, but it is clearly a painting that has been the topic of many conversations, right down to the outer panel of Adam and Eve, and the fruit she is holding - not the typical apple that we all are lead to believe but a citrus fruit as apparently the bible never explicitly stated that it was an apple. Even Hitler, during his reign, tried to have it seized and destroyed. Overall, it's pretty famous, and it’s from and remains in Ghent. How cool. 

So what did we do, Saturday morning after a lovely breakfast we headed into the main city, we walked around, saw the lovely riverside medieval buildings, saw some cool street art and also visited a cathedral. We climbed to the top of the bell tower and had an incredible view of the city. Visit the cathedral the houses the famous Lamb God, but didn’t see it as the line was super long. We spent a few hours searching for somewhere to eat, but with a group of nine, it was a bit too hard so we headed home. Even though we did a lot of walking around to and from different restaurants, we saw a lot of the city, which is lovely. Saturday afternoon and evening we spent at the airbnb. Sunday, once again we headed out to the city and followed a street art walk. In Ghent there are heaps of street art friendly zones, where people are welcome to create art on the walls, the city has also asked well-known street artists to come and put their mark on the town. We enjoyed exploring the city and seeing the incredible murals. Benoit and I went to visit the Castle, which was incredible.
