you are sort of right yes!!! with the whole imprisonment thing! let me give a bit more backstory first so things make sense :

since the circus bunch lives in hyrule while the whole ganondorf apocalypse thing is happening, pipimi is sort of their mini savior! since the link of this world is too far away to help them and too busy in the main areas of hyrule.

they r far enough away from the inner sections of hyrule to where they arent entirely affected by the main stuff everyone else is (dangerous monsters, plague spread, malice growth) but they arent immune from it. the malice (and malice in this au grows like crystals, large fleshy red crystals that bleed!) would bleed and seep into the waterways and possibly run down rivers their way, infecting their water.

so its sort of like The Plague (the fossils plague to be exact, a plague created by ganondorf that slowly turns the host into a stone statue) but worse, like a parasitic bug in ur brain almost!

halimaw got infected by the malice-water and started becoming brash and killing coworkers and visitors, and demanded to anyone he could not immediately kill that they bring him to ganondorf so he can 'serve his leader'. they could Not let this guy roam free of course. hes ruining business! so sirko compromised with him, occasionally feeding him a random visitor to the circus so that he stays in the basement. halimaw's agreement to this compromise allowed them to lock him on the basement for good, unbeknownst to him.

so thats the majority of how halimaw got thrown into the basement ! he doesnt stay there forever of course, and he does get justice, but not without sacrifice! :3

the main plotline (the mission to kill ganondorf) goes on long enough to where others in the circus start to become sick, showing early signs of the infection that halimaw currently inhibits.

this is quite literally right before vahlu (this au's link) slays ganondorf though, so when pipimi finally finds out its the water supply thats making everyone crazy and ill, everyone praises her for finding the problem and being the one to help vanquish it ; when in reality, the malice just sort of. dissipated because ganondorf was no longer living.

(and yes, i did add that little last part for yuri purposes .. holiday gets sick and pipimi blames herself .. after all, everything was just fine before she arrived. whys suddenly everything going wrong? :] )

I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding of what it takes to produce children's television and other media, which prevents people from understanding what an adult could possibly analyze or enjoy about a show. children's television is complicated because anything that child watches will usually affect their interests or behavior. though it's changed a bit now, many children are raised by television, so it's important to really get a show right. basically, the younger the viewer, the bigger the task. shows for preschoolers are usually sweet, comforting, and they educate their viewer in some way. this is by design, so it's no surprise that adults also derive enjoyment from these shows. they're built to be enjoyable. they're even built to form relationships with at times; blues clues and mr rogers neighborhood are big examples of this. and when you enjoy something, if you have the ability, you'll analyze it. shows like my little pony have a lot of story behind them and character development that could easily be analyzed. a show like blues clues doesn't have a lot of story for adults to enjoy, but the methods it employs to be educational can definitely be analyzed and appreciated.

a lot of people see television for preschoolers as mind-numbing nonsense. and sometimes, they're right. but that doesn't mean that all children's shows can't be well made. most of the time, they're made with research behind them and care. these shows are made to be loved. adults enjoying well made shows, even if they're for children, shouldn't be such an odd concept. a good show is a good show, even if it's about a family of talking dogs, a community of muppets, or a man and his land of make believe.

Fun fact for my Tumblr friends I have the insane glasses prescription of -14.75, -12.75 (plus 4/4.5 CYL aka astigmatism) and it makes finding glasses so fucking difficult and it's that time again because my glasses are 4 years old and falling apart and I'm so frustrated by all of the optical labs around me being clueless as to how to deal with my prescription lmao

I'm gonna be spending minimum 500USD for one pair of glasses too and that's the lowest it's been in years (5 years ago a local shop quoted me 900) but it's still a lot!

Anyway just venting bc I'm tired of having to deal with being a medical anomaly 😩
