CASA TIDMOUTH’S MOST NORMAL AND RELIABLE RAILWAY WORKERS: THE LITTLE WESTERN + DIESEL DRIVERS
Montague “Duck” Collett
Age: 34
Occupation: NWR 8's driver
The only son among numerous daughters of the Collett family. He is an incredibly determined and hard working driver of the Little Western who always speaks his mind. He is not afraid to be honest about his opinions and takes good pride in his occupation.
Raised in an environment that absolutely, WHOLEHEARTEDLY reveres “Great Western” values, he strongly holds the belief that his heritage is the most admirable and perfect portrait for his ways of living and greatly respects his background and ancestry. His parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and other significant family members have always taught him that people who hold no respect for their heritage are no good and involving himself with people without clear visages of their future or living life way too casually is not going to be tolerated. They have also taught him to strike hard whenever given the chance and bring perfection to the Great Western legacy. Montague never let go of these teachings, admiring and loving them greatly because throughout his youth, these have always been proven to be true.
During particularly stressful situations, one can even say that Montague’s view on the world can be purely black and white, firmly believing that things that follow the Great Western way are absolutely right, while things that don’t are most definitely wrong. This results in him coming off as stubborn or even “obnoxious” – not-so-eloquently put – to people that don't know him well.
Trivia:
He has a bad ankle on his right foot and sometimes walks with a cane.
His coat is a family heirloom.
Doesn’t say a lot during movie nights, except when it comes to slashers. He usually comments on how the blood splatters are wrong or how inefficient the weapons are.
Hahaha, Mr. Collett! What’s with the axe? Oh, that’s just a prop, you say? Well, if that’s what you say…
When he holds grudges, he holds them hard. He’s not aware of this, though.
Staring off at the sea calms his mind.
Likes: the Great Western way, justice, the sea, mango panna cotta
Dislikes: having his pride wounded, shaving cream
Giovanni “Diesel” vin Diesel
Age: 35
Occupation: diesel driver
As opposed to his family who holds traditional values and carry on the legacy by running the family restaurant back at Sicily, he ran away to experience the taste of freedom and social advancement at age 25. Ever since then, he became more knowledgeable about modern trends and culture like… hanging out at malls and web-surfing. He regards the concept of progress and revolution highly and holds no patience towards those that are “too sentimental” or cannot let go of their past. This is why he believes that his work as a diesel engine driver in a railway dominated by steam engines – technology that is considered incredibly outdated back in his hometown – should be considered admirable and revolutionary. Sometimes unsavory words slip out of his mouth and he’d unknowingly make fun of Sodor’s cultural differences (this has mellowed out long ago).
Even though he takes pride in his work, he finds it incredibly odd how diesel engines – one of the few symbols of advancement in Sodor – can only travel so far around the area where they belong (usually the quarries) and are rarely appointed as Sodor’s representatives in shows as opposed to how steam engines are praised, painted in gaudy colors, and even given words of assurance that they’ll be fixed no matter how broken they are. This adds to his frustration, making him snappy and hostile towards steam engine drivers and enthusiasts.
Despite these world views, he has a difficult time letting go of the thoughts regarding his past actions and seems to hold A LOT of regrets.
Trivia:
Every web series always have that one token Italian guy. Thank you, Diesel.
He and Montague are friends despite the awful rumor he spread about the latter a long time ago. But sometimes he can’t shake the unnerving and often harrowing feeling he always felt whenever Montague smiles at him.
Back when he still worked at his family’s restaurant, he liked to experiment with traditional dishes and add his own touch to them. This usually resulted in scoldings from his nonna.
Whenever someone makes him look stupid, he’ll always aim to make their life embarrassing or downright miserable. He’ll even go as far as spreading lies and disgracing their names, no matter who they are or why they did so.
He has a Gameboy and Playstation 1. And a RHCP shirt.
Likes: his gaming consoles, bruschetta, Red Hot Chili Peppers
Dislikes: people who are ungrateful, slow music
[THE REST OF THE CHARACTERS ARE UNDER THE CUT. THIS POST IS GOING TO BE EXTREMELY LONG IF OTHERWISE.]
Donald Dunalastair & Douglas Dunalastair
Ages: 29
Occupations: NWR 9's driver and NWR 10’s driver
The iconic Caledonian twins. Despite generally being level-headed and no-nonsense, they liked making jokes and pulling pranks on others. They are indistinguishable aside from their hairstyle (Donald's neater, Douglas' messier). Both of them are also extremely good at handling the impact snowy weather has on the railways and quick at shoveling snow. They found out that instead of using their picture-perfect similarities just for jokes, they could use it for things that are more serious and to get them out of tight situations. Like that time where both of them arrived at Sodor after hearing the news that only Donald is hired for for railway job and are questioned by Sir Topham Hatt.
A week after the whole fiasco was solved and Sir Topham Hatt (bless this man) finally hired the both of them thanks to Percy's choice of words, Douglas went missing. He didn't come home alongside Donald because he was asked to pull some trucks by himself late at night (much to his brother's distress). A month later, he was found alongside Oliver wandering in an old, defunct railway near a rusty engine. Despite Donald being ecstatic that his brother is back, something about Douglas feels off with how he spoke more calmly and is more perceptive to his surroundings. Despite things already returning back to how they used to now in the present, Donald always, ALWAYS makes sure to tag alongside Douglas (much to his concern), yet at the same time regrets the long-ago decision of taking his brother to Sodor with him. What action will Donald take next regarding this weight of responsibility? For now, however, they decide to push things aside to get their jobs done. There is snow to shovel.
Trivia:
Comes in one package. Product may differ from the pictures. Do not separate. Do not.
Their argument when questioned by Sir Topham Hatt was "Our mother used to get our names mixed up, so we don't even know who's who ourselves, sir!" (read with a thick Scottish accent).
Donald once made fun of Montague's "constant quacking" about his world views. Feeling that his pride is wounded, he proceeded to place a small duckling inside NWR 9's tender. Donald took an immediate liking to her and the stationmaster named her Dilly. She always followed him around his workplace ever since and especially loves sitting inside NWR 9's cab with Donald.
Unfortunately, they’re not good at playing bagpipes.
Likes: impersonating each other, black licorice candy, peppermint flavoring, Cranachan
Dislikes: being separated from each other, being submerged in bogs, running out of hair gel
Oliver Tyst Swindon
Age: 32
Occupation: NWR 11's driver
He is technically the most rational and blunt out of everyone in the Little Western branch who solve issues with a (usually) cold head. He can be seen as impatient and sometimes a little harsh with how he doesn’t have the biggest patience for people who are too emotional or lackluster when faced with an obstacle. At times of stress where nobody is competent enough to think straight, Oliver acts as the voice of reason and always finds logical reasoning behind the reason why a problem happened and acts directly to solve it and prevent it from happening – a contrast to Montague’s constant “there are two ways” analogy – even though he would get into unpleasant situations himself because of his constant head-first diving into trouble to get rid of it as quickly as possible.
5 years before the events of Casa Tidmouth, he had a near-death experience after someone sabotaged the tracks of his old railway and after shortly waking up with foggy memories only to find that his beloved engine is suddenly rusting and covered in scratches – basically in a condition where it should be scrapped – he vowed to find whoever’s responsible for such tragedy. Though his engine is now in perfect condition thanks to the quirky doctor slash engineer of Steamworks and he was saved by Montague and Donald, the fact that something so absurd cannot be explained with plain words left a huge itch in his mind. Being a man who’s sensible but also aware of how strange Sodor is with its otherworldly occurrences that are hard to explain, he has a strong feeling in his gut that something like that isn’t just affecting him.
Trivia:
Sometimes when he spaces out, his perception of time becomes unclear.
May not have a lot to gossip about and usually think that most of them are just made-up stories to excite up railway workers, but lends a good ear nonetheless.
Claimed that he had seen a god in his dreams after he was rescued. Nobody believes him, so he doesn’t really care about it.
Proud father of a (???) Tamagotchi.
Likes: documentaries about how things are made, shepherds’ pie, his Tamagotchi
Dislikes: abstract paintings, anything related to the supernatural
Mavis Hawthorne
Age: 28
Occupation: diesel driver, quarry worker
Friendly and approachable. She used to be some kind of wildcard and doesn't exactly like being ordered around or told what to do. Her actions used to be more grounded in her interests rather than for the group's benefits, though nowadays she’s more chill. She gets easily annoyed at Diesel’s schemes and ideas, though does little to stop him. It’s usually not because she’s lazy or taking a neutral side – she just wants to see him eventually receive his comeuppance (which always happens). She also doesn't care much about whatever belief of "progress" and "traditions" that her weird coworkers keeps yapping about. She just thinks that as long as an engine works properly and people do their jobs accurately, everything's all good.
She can be stubborn and sometimes have a hard time listening to others, but this is due to her valuing efficiency and thinking that thinking too much about what others have to say will slow her down. This is shown at how in the past she nearly got Toby in trouble for constantly pushing trucks to wrong places and had her diesel engine break down because someone carelessly gave it the wrong fuel (she was quite pissed, alright). Though some people who don’t know her well think she’s too quick to act and rash, she seems to have some sort of unexplainable strategy and pattern in her head whenever she’s doing her jobs, and proudly gives herself a pat on the back for it.
Trivia:
She gives quite the good one-liners every time she finds out Diesel gets into trouble because of his petty plans.
She’s really good at playing electric bass. In fact, when she was in high school she was part of a rock band called “The Combusting Fingernails Experience”. One of the bands’ magnum opus is “If I Was Your Explosive Amygdala“.
In order to finish work more quickly and efficiently, she likes doing the hardest things first and easiest things later… which used to get her into unexpected mishaps back in the day.
Likes: Prince, blackforest cake, colorful windbreakers, lasagna
Dislikes: thinking about complicated things, movies with overly-dramatic special effects
And here’s some of the supporting cast of Casa Tidmouth! Writing them is such a blast even though they’re not as prominent as the Steam Team, and so are designing them. Now I’m thinking about who else to draw... but for now, enjoy these silly people who have no idea what their other coworkers were up to!

Best Italian tank of WW2? Considering how little development they actually had, prototypes and drawing board designs are acceptable here?
Separate but related question, best non-major Axis and Allied powers tank of WW2? (i.e. outside of US, Britain, France, and China for the Allies, and outside of Germany, Italy, and Japan for the Axis)
Obscure tanks go!
As far as Italian tanks go, I'm going to say the Carro Armato p26/40. It was a fairly capable tank, with a capable drivetrain, a moderately good main gun, and pretty alright armor. It does kinda fall short though, because it only has a crew of 4, making the commander serve double duty, meaning that he doesn't have his whole head in the game.
Now, as to the second question:
My semi-cheat answer is the Czech ČKD LT vz. 38, which technically was adopted by the Germans as the Pz.Kpfw 38(t). It's a genuinely good tank, that I'd put up against any early-war light tank and give it decent odds.
My non-cheat answer is the Polish 9TP, which was a worthy competitor to the Panzer 1 and other tankettes, using a Bofors 37mm AT gun. It was a neat light tank, and I'd love to see how Polish rank development would have progressed, had it been allowed to progress to the planned 10TP and 14TP, instead of spending 40 years under the Soviet thumb.
