HP Rec Fest, Day 19

@hprecfest couldn’t come up with a better prompt on my birthday if they wanted 😂 my moment to be the horny on main has finally come (pun intended) and I had so much fun planning this rec post - it’s been a long time coming too, as naturally this was the very first prompt I checked when the fest started! You can probably guess just by looking at this rec list that I’m a big smut fan and champion. I love reading it, talking about it and reccing it. The fics I reread the most are PWPs and I’m even more obsessed when they offer hot dirty talk (am actually picky about it!) and exceptional character development. In fact, some of the most insightful, sensitive and sophisticated character studies I’ve seen come from deeply underrated smutty fics and I’ll die on this hill!

Today I’m breaking my own rule of only reccing two fics and avoiding stories I’ve recced before because a) this is too good an opportunity to scream about my faves again b) it’s my birthday and I can do whatever I want 😌 the Drarry rec was actually bit more challenging as my usual smutty favorites involve rare pairs. I’ve been working hard to highlight lesser known fics but this time I’m staying true to the request - which of course it’s completely subjective - and chose my favourite even if it’s a widely known and popular fic. I feel so privileged to be reading and reccing these masterpieces as a birthday celebration! You’ll find some of my favourite quotes below, as a treat 🔥

I considered going for a hidden gem but it was no use, I just had to celebrate this epic classic and stay true to my heart! when it comes to ust and smut imo this is hands down the hottest thing I’ve ever read. there are so many iconic and breathtaking sex scenes it’s impossible to pick just one; I’ve reread most of them more times than I care to admit and they all have carved their way inside my brain. I love how desperately wanton Harry and Draco are for each other in this fic! I keep replaying every dirty word, every slutty kiss, every chaotic and intense af sexual encounter they have over the course of this superb and deliciously long case fic/secret relationship series. at this point everyone and their dog has heard of, and read, this series but if you haven’t yet you’re in for a treat! block your schedule this holiday season and go grab some popcorn for this brilliant masterclass in writing, flangst and smut - so much top notch smut to feast on you’ll want to live in this universe forever. you’re welcome!

I double dare you to find anything hotter than this fic and believe me, I’ve read TONS of smut across many ships and fandoms. Am I biased due to my particular fondness for age gap and sharing/cuckolding kink? Maybe so 🌝 but I promise you this is unlike any other smut you’ve read before - it’s not only smoking hot with the kind of self-indulgent, relentless athletic sex that leaves you sweating (and horny), it’s also pov multiple written in the first person and how brilliant is that??? birds sells herself short in the AN saying this is just 30k of pure unadulterated porn but I’d argue this is actually a masterpiece, an extremely clever, nuanced and perfectly executed character study, mainly of Scorpius. I am impressed beyond words by what birds was able to deliver in 30k of yes, unapologetic kinky smut. DILF Draco, wanton Albus and sweet conflicted Scorp are a sight to behold and will live rent free in your mind after you read this 🪦

gangbang galore!!!! this fic has been one of my favourite PWPs to revisit for some years now. I’ll never get over Lokifan’s smut tbh, every fic was obviously written to check my personal boxes and the pacing, characterization and dialogue are so masterfully done I’m always gutted when it’s over. they’ve written smut for some of my favorite ships and they’re all equally delicious but nothing beats (hehe) this one: downright sinful and decadent as the summary suggests but also surprisingly very sweet! established drarry doing the nasty together is my comfort food and here you can feel how much trust and love they have for each other. Harry & Draco are 100% connected throughout the whole fic and the bits of playful teasing, desperate affection and tender aftercare in-between fucks made me swoon! this is a must read for anyone who loves to see Draco getting some diq and loving it, but also to my fellow Dron fans out there! their smutty times are deliciously hot and so funny too, with a lovable horny Ron being egged on by the devils. HBD me! 😂🎉

I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE S1: I mean, this is not just peak Alan, this is peak comedy. Every other line is a great joke if not a memorable quote yet it all still works in depicting Alan as a three dimensional character and not just a punching bag. It's all slightly exaggerated but gives back a sense of realness because the Alan universe is so perfectly crafted. What's really fascinating is that almost everything you get is from Alan's interacting with other people, but there's a strong underlyining sense of loneliness throughout and that's what makes you sympathetic towards the character. Yes he's opportunistic and arrogant but at times you want him to shut up not because he's annoying but because he's burying himself. Just cringe comedy played perfectly. I also absolutely love how you get comedy out of his little obsessions and pedantry, that's maybe my favourite definying trait of Steve's stuff.

Talking of Steve, he's unreal here. I've said it before but he has the incredible ability to go big while still playing on the subtleties, be it a face expression, the timing of inflection of a phrase or a small gesture. It's quite fitting that one of the most iconic moments of the series has him not speaking a single word. He's completely mastered the character by this point and there's nothing that's off limits for him. But what sticks out is that he's also able to bring the pathos and emotions when needed. Despair, childlike happiness, fear, awkwardness, disgust, it's all perfectly conveyed and even if it's for a laugh there's still another hidden message getting across.

It's very hard to pick a favourite moments but there's 3 quotes that I want to single out because I think in a way they're also either brilliant observations or great character detail.

"Yes, it's an extender". Because as I said I have a soft spot for all these mundane obsessions and they're an integral part of Alan's psyche, he gets worked over all these small, irrelevant things in a way that probably wears people out, or just confuses them. But the reality is, we all sometimes get overexcited about stupid things that bring some comfort to our lives, and your kitchen table being an extender is certainly a plausible candidate for that. It's like when you go to the supermarket and there's a discount on soap or when you come home and your flatmate has already put the bins out. The joys of life.

"At the end of the day you will pay the price if you're a fussy eater". That whole scene is fantastic and works on two level imo. The obvious one is the casual display of ignorance and racism. As the little englander that he is, even without being particularly engaged politically, Alan just looks down on irish people and doesn't even realise that all of his perceptions are based on old, reheashed stereotypes. But then I think the scene also captures something I believe we've all experienced. When you're out for dinner with a group, and there's someone you don't quite know. And that someone will say the most outrageous things without a worry because in his mind the possibilities that he's talking out of his arse, and that the other people sat at the table may not agree with his point of view, just don't exist.

"I just hate the general public". Again, in context, this works because it's just Alan refusing to admit his own defeat and instead blaming someone else, in this case everyone and no one in particular because he can't quite pin down the crowd that was at the event but he still feels they're inferior to him. But it's also such a great line to have come out of a guy that works as a tv presenter, especially a traditional one. He puts on this smiling face and pretends that the audience of the show are this kind of massive extended family when in front of the camera. He works with a different set of guests every time. He talks with executives, producers, collegues, members of crew. His whole career is based on pretending that what he's doing affects the public and keeps them company. And being successful and getting big viewing figures means you're popular with the everymen (and women) down in Bolton or something. Yet he *hates* the general public. Fantastic.

18. i love this little moment of intimacy between them. their relationship can feel more like an acquaintanceship at times, especially with how marco speaks to lori and how he treats her. i like in this shot it captures a rare moment in their relationship where lori is genuinely sweet and he's soaking it all in. also i really like both their side profiles hehe

19. i was starting to take screens for a post i was going to make then i just forgot about it but i really like this and how it's a little sneak peak on what to expect later on in four to one :)

Since it’s April Fool’s Day (I'm late haha), let’s be fools about our own writing instead of pranking others!

• Which of your characters are you an absolute fool for?

There are two big ones here. Across the Tracks!Tae, and Highway to You!Yoongi. Tae is such a confident, cheeky and caring rascal in Across the Tracks. He was super fun to write, and I am a huge softie for his disarming grin.

As for Yoongi, in Highway to You, he just makes my heart bleeeeed. He has such a loyal, protective heart and loves reader so so fiercely. This couple has to be one of my favourites in general. At heart their love is so strong and pure, among such a messed up and painful series of events. Don't mind me crying over them🥺😭

• Which genre are you most confident writing in?

This should surprise none of you: action! Pretty much all my long works are plot heavy, mafia au or adjacent stories heavy on the action side. Have I ever not had violence as a warning? Lmao

• Who is your favorite minor character in any of your fics?

Ohhhhh this is sUCH a hard question! I love writing in the boys as reader's friends. Some highlights have to be the very baffled and oblivious Namjoon in Big Enough for Both of Us, the iconic and loyal duo of Jin and Hobi in Across the Tracks, and the same duo as ultimate wingmen in Just in Time.

At the moment, I'm loving Tae in Supercharged... but you'll have to wait for that one!👀he's a very interesting character with a unique background, I'm not even sure it will all come up in the main series. I hope more of you fall in love with our mysterious villainous boy, though.

• Which of your fic’s worlds would you most like to live in?

This was difficult for the opposite reason to most other questions... because most of the worlds I've made wouldn't actually be that pleasant to live in, I've realised🤣remember what I said about violence? That said, I would have to pick Breathe Again or Still Waters Run Deep, my ghibli aus. Not much can go wrong there! I think they're the most pretty worlds with a little bit of magic sprinkled in🥰

• What is the silliest small detail you’ve ever written that still makes you laugh or smile?

There are a ton of details and hints in Still Waters Run Deep about Tae's real identity... a lot of things that reader writes off as luck which in my mind are anything but, so I hope people notice! Lots of 'probably a trick of the light'/'probably your imagination'/'you probably should be cold'👀

But though they make me smile, maybe they aren't so silly! If that's what you're after, it would probably be in A Dash of Love when Taehyung went crazy and ordered a bunch of squirrel plates, in a very obvious reference to that run!bts episode

• If you could cast anyone in an adaption of any of your fics (other than whoever has inspired/shares the name of the character) who would it be and why?

I am so bad with actors. I do not know, I'm sorry! I literally only picture the guys I'm writing about

I just can't puck a favourite Doctor anymore. I love them all. I love all the Classics, (need to watch them again to know why i like each doctor from the classics. )all the rebooted. I love Nine, ten, eleven, twelve and Thirteen. I just can't pick one. They're all amazing and wonderful in their own ways I just can't pick at all.

I love Nine because he's a no-nonsense smart aleck spaceman who falls in love with a modern-day shop girl. He's still recovering from the war. He obviously suffers from either trauma or PTSD but tries to make the best of it. He has some of the best one liners and is just funny. (Or at least I think he's funny and I do like a lot of his episodes.)

I love Ten because, let's be honest. He's a pretty boy, goofy. His and Donna's dynamic will always be iconic. There are moments where I just want to smack the sod because he's a jerk or he's just pushed the lines too far. But I can never stay mad at him. (Well maybe I can because he removed Donna's memories but that's a different conversation) he's pretty, he's fun, also funny as well. But is a tad more childlike. I enjoy watching his episodes with my mum as she adores ten.

Eleven. I love this Doctor so much. Yes I love all of them like I said but I will admit there is a soft spot for eleven in there as well. He's an elderich old man with a young face. He acts so childish that it makes it obvious that he's actually a very haunted being whose filled with so much anger and sadness that he loses control and some of his kindness. As much as I love this Doctor. He's not a doctor I'd find myself trusting easily just because of how dark he can get. He's suffered a lot of lost but he's also comfortable causing loss as well. Which shows that he's lost compassion and its going to be hard to rail him back to the spot he used to be where mercy was better than cruelty.

Twelve. Okay so my love for him is a bit more newer as I felt like I never gave him a proper chance when I was younger but I'm now reaching his episodes (s10 it's underrated. So is Bill and his dynamic) I will admit I struggled to like him when I was younger but now I'm older. I feel like I can relate to his grumpiness quite a bit. Humans are stupid and annoying. They're hard work I just wish I had the confidence to insult everyone or had the ability to tell them to shut up like Twelve did. Now on my rewatch I could possibly say Twelve is a brilliant Doctor. Maybe even the best. Not writing wise but in a. He doesn't react like how ten or eleven reacts. He reacts a bit more like how nine reacts. With mercy. He gives the enemies a chance. I mean all Doctor's do but Twelve does it similar to how nine does it. They take a different way of sorting things out with snark and grumpiness.

Thirteen. Oh my precious baby girl. I'm still not okay that she's no longer the Doctor. I loved Thirteen if I'm honest. I will always defend her Doctor. Yes maybe the episodes needs tweaking ill say that but I don't hate the Doctor. I loved her Doctor. She's bubbly fun and just a funny o' ball of social anxious. She's a mood. She's my lil ND mood. Yes she can go dark too. And those moments have made me cross when she takes her anger out on her fam. So she does make me wanna dmack her like ten does. Bit I'm probably more likely to trust her more than I would with eleven just because she seems like she has such warm energy when she is happy. She's a bit more level headed than ten and eleven I'd say (may need to watch her era again. I haven't done it yet lol ooops) she was more with her words than actions I'd say but correct me if I'm wrong. I did like the way she defended Ryan that was sweet. Yes she was awkward at some moments but she's an awkward Doctor. But I will say. Some of her episodes had some funny moments for example when Graham was just like "WORST UBER EVER!) I loved that. I also loved the Master from her era. Now I love all the incarnations of the Master but I will say that Dhawan is my favourite. I just love how utterly fucking manic he is. Dude terrified me. Yet at the same time. He got those dark puppy eyes that makes me wanna hug him too!!.

...sorry bout that rant. But I'm excited for the 60th though.

SINGLE'S INFERNO

First of all, they're all CEOs, models, etc., and most of them, if not all, needed to promote themselves. It's just a dumb show after all, so chill ffs. And probably just like most korean shows, it was scripted or they were asked to be that way to make it not boring.

I will give my opinions on this show. I am bad with names, especially longer ones. And I wished they had deeper conversations. Not sexual or anything obviously, and I understood there are rules. But too little time and that caused too much small talk most of the time, and the "i want you" attitude. Hardly "i like this and I don't like that" or "when I was a kid", not even "i visited this and that".

I didn't see Jintaek talking to other girls much. Just with Jiyeon, bcs he couldn't choose the same person, and had no other choice. But mostly Jintaek spent his time around Soyeon. Maybe he was pissed she wasn't as decided as he was at first, she even tried with Sehoon out of anger, and she was forever pissed at Jintaek for spending time in paradise with Jiyeon, but I didn't think Jiyeon would look at Jintaek either. Idk why you guys hate Jintaek, he was quite loyal too. I think he enjoyed seeing Soyeon angry because of him, that was cute seeing her angry about a situation he actually had no control over. That was silly of her but too cute lmao! But he still wasn't sure she liked him, after the last man joined them, and she won the game, but she served it right, and overall I honestly adored them together. To him. It was Soyeon from the start, but she didn't choose him first, she got angry for a silly reason, but she started to trust him on her own, and then even got comfortable to make jokes, that iconic way of calling him for that last paradise trip lmfao, i swear I jumped too :))))), that's when she put herself together and knew the kind of power that joke had over him. And that beautiful. My favourite couple.

Out of all the members, Yeawon is perfect to me! An angel. A loyal person. Someone who earn everyone's trust. They were all comfortable with her and she was adorable and funny with everyone. And so witty, from the comments in the girls' tent, most of the times she was so on point, her senses were tingling so right, gosh I adore her!! She didn't seem to want to stand out, quite modest, and she chooses someone who also didn't like to stand out, and quite nice, modest too, even though maybe he wasn't sure if he liked her in the beginning. But in the end she waited patiently. It felt like they got close in the background and didn't show off anything. I was impressed with Yeawon, she was my queen. I wished she had more screen time, but even as short as that, she was the best out there to me. Even the last man joining (sorry, I am really bad at names) found her extremely adorable, in just a vvvvveeeerrryyyy short time. Lmao

About Jiyeon, being a straightforward and emphatic one, is a bless but also a pain. She knew what she wanted but it was hard to say it bcs she could also understood the other one's pain. Sehoon wasn't as pushy as everyone say. He was making a lot of noise in the boys tent and around everyone, everyone but around Jiyeon, Yes they all knew. Maybe I just don't remember all moments. But I don't remember him calling her out much, he did choose her many times, but he gave her some space too. It was to the others that he was also telling he likes her the most. And shouldn't be hated. He was loyal and felt like he didn't have a closure. He was asking for a straight one, from her directly. Weird for him was that she actually picked him. LoL I didn't expect that either. Swear! I I felt sad for her that time she cried, being pulled in many directions IT IS tiring. But she felt comfortable to cry in front of him. But honestly, if you don't like someone, you can say it, speak it and that helps the other to stop. Just say it. Is not "better" to avoid saying it to the other one. It's worse. Also, maybe it was me, but she looked happy when she chose Sehoon to go to paradise, last time.

I felt sad for the last 2 girls. 9 days was already a short time, but had even a shorter time there. They were both adorable. Sumin was so kind and Minji, I would've loved to see her talking to more guys, she was different whan she was talked to.

Sihun was not my type, unfortunately I didn't pay attention to him much. I do admire he was also loyal. And I also understand that thing of not having a straightforward closure part again. Jia should've told him he's not her type sooner, and he would've stopped. He was clearly not her type. He could've picked Sumin and end of story, but perhaps he gave up long ago and just really wanted to go home. He should've left his thoughts in inferno and pay some more attention to Sumin. But who am i to speak, if I have someon on my mind, it also takes time for me to move on.

About Jia, I admired her straightforwardness about her ideal type. But I wasn't ok with the fact that she's was so undecided until almost the end, just giving hope to all of them. I can understand is a work habit, as a youtuber, to please everyone, but in real life that's not ok. It's about respecting each others' time. If with others you might have guessed, with her i wasn't sure until the last moment. "I thought about you" lmao yeah maybe as in "this guy is a bit better than the other", but that's not quite the thinking about the other that some of them wanted to hear. She gave mixed signals, i was confused most of the time lmao. It could be great to be like that in other situations, as work, tv shows as this or idk, but in love that's cruel. Giving hope when you are not interested is cruel. Is cool if you wanna to have your revenge, but cool with just everyone you meet. As someone with 3 relationships so far and who never had a closure, i had to endure a longer time of pain than if I had one. Yea no guy had the balls to say "you are not the someone I want" and period, with that i would've had no longer hopes that he might've changed his mind. No honest and real closure is brainfk for someone in love. Just put an end if that's what you want and that's better for the both parts. I was told you feel free after, hurt, but free to allow someone else in your life. When this will happen to you you will understand why it sucks to be given false hope, and sadly that's the trend these days....

One: Who is you favourite Ghostbuster?

My favourite from the original team is Winston, since I admire his level-headed attitude in a crisis, and I find some of his dialogue in the cartoon really funny. My favourite from the new team is, to the surprise of no one, Phoebe! I like her a lot because I relate to her. Not so much in the brains, but I was also a socially awkward kid who loved science and struggled with fitting in. I really enjoyed finally seeing her story and watching her become a real Ghostbuster!

Twelve: Favourite scene from Afterlife?

Oomf. That's hard to pick! Partly because I've only gotten to see it once so I can't remember every detail, and partly because I liked the whole thing so it's hard to narrow down a favourite scene. I guess if I had to pick, it would be the ending and THAT moment (you know the one). Talk about a gut punch of emotions, I didn't expect them to pull off a scene like that so well and do it so respectfully. A beautiful tribute to Harold, and a loving passing of the torch to the next generation.

Eighteen: Favorite villain/ghost?

From the movies, Gozer for sure. They're so iconic and their whole visual design is awesome across all appearances. Not to mention the fascinating lore behind them. Oh and the Stay Puft Marshmallow man, which is one of the most hilarious things in cinema. From the cartoons my favourite is the Boogieman! He's got a killer theme song, rad outfit, a creepy domain, and a history with Egon, making him a really cool villain in my book. (I give an honourable mention to the Peoplebusters, because I love their concept, you know my brand.)

The Case Study of Vanitas' cast is amazing because it's the only anime I've ever watched where the yaoi, yuri and straight ships are all as adorable as the others.

Jeanne x Vanitas : light and dark, Bourreau and Saviour, ennemies to lovers who's relationship heavily hinges on the desire they have for Jeanne to drink Vanitas' blood because of how good it tastes/feels for both of them, which is basically the vampire version of hate fuck/sex buddies. 10/10, wish we'd see more of this kind of dynamic well done.

Noe x Dominique : childhood friends to lovers with one of them having been in love with the other since they first met and the other being denser than a brick about it, and since they are both vampires, we get the "loves to drink the other's blood" trope x2. Sweet and adorable and pretty hot tbh, 10/10

Dominique x Jeanne : the scene where Dominique tells Jeanne that nothing is more important, in that moment, than to be close to and dance with her to admire and appreciate her beauty instantly sold me to this ship. A Bourreau and a vampire from House de Sade serving the Queen, that's basically commoner x noble and I love this kind of story. 10/10

Noe x Vanitas : honestly didn't see much going for this ship before ep 7 but Noe lamenting about not being the first to taste Vanitas' blood because it smells so good and not realising he's jealous opened up an ocean of possibilities. He's just so dense and Vanitas is a smart little shit who gets confused and angry and flustered and even crazy when his feelings become too much for him to handle and I think their dynamic would be extremely fun, were it to turn romantic. Also the fact that Vanitas isn't interested in someone who would fall in love with him *chef's kiss*. Watch Noe's dense ass head shatter all his barriers and make him accept his love because damn him, Vanitas, this man is going to love you whether you like it or not ! 10/10

I have less thoughts about Jeanne x Noe and Dominique x Vanitas but since it's basically cinnamon roll x cinnamon roll and smart ass little shit x smart ass little shit I'm sure the first would be extremely fluffy and cute while the other would be the funniest thing ever where love rhymes with constant bickering and competing (even in the bedroom).

I don't usually like poly ships because I always have my favourites in the relationships, but in this case ? I'm begging the creator to put these four together. They'd be the most powerful and iconic unit the world has ever seen and also the sweetest and stupidest one since they're all well-meaning morons. This would be hysterical.

Something I just realised about Hazel using light dust : 

He showed us that, even in its raw form, light dust makes a shield around him, it's not a technological application of the dust, it's literally its natural power. 

Which means that VELVET is the technological genius here, for managing to use light dust in such a different way to its natural form. Making it pick apart the weapons she takes a picture of and replicate them must have been helluva hard.

Also I feel so much for Winter right now.

In 5 minutes, she just lost both of her little sisters

The way her voice breaks while screaming Weiss’ name... I have a sister, an older one instead of a younger one, true, but still a sister, and I can imagine so well the pain Winter was feeling

The grief is so great she can barely fly herself back on the bridge before collapsing

And now she can barely look her mother and brother in the eye

She can’t bear the thought of having to announce that Weiss is never coming back

Instead she throws herself in the fight, she puts all her energy in doing something other than thinking about what she’s just lost and her grief.

I hope team RWBY+J’s trip doesn’t last for months in Remnant, because I am not sure in what state they will find Winter (and their friends) when they come back if it does.

The Summer Hound theory always seemed just a tad too much to be true, and RT managed to find the exact balance to make it fit perfectly in this point of the story.

Make it true, but with another SEW. Just as horrible, just as terrifying, and it means a big chance to see the Summer Hound later in the story, closer to the final act.

It also means that Ruby and Yang will undoubtedly at least wonder if that’s what happened to their mother and why no one ever found her body.

Now, every time they face a Hound, they’ll wonder “Is this Mom ?”

That’s even worse than if Summer had been the one inside this first Hound.

Season 26

my favourite episode

Oh that's hard. It's gotta be either Ghost Light or The Curse of Fenric. But the others are also very good.

my least favorite episode

Oh man, they're all good. Hm, it's not a bad episode at all but I guess I'd have to pick Survival. That iconic speech about "we die like animals" just felt kinda weird to me tbh. 7 is so dramatic lol but it's nice sometimes.

a moment that made me cry

Well the ending of course. Also not really cry but there's a lot of deep stuff like the priest who stopped believing in God because of the war and the story ace told of her friend and her relationship with the house. I liked it

That time the Soviets hold their symbol at the monsters and they go aaaaaah and like damn the power of socialism compels you I guess

my opinion on the finale

I don't like it as much as most people but I still enjoyed it a lot. Just the vibe it gives is nice. And the ending is just really good, it really feels like a finale. Was sad.

hello anon! this is a neat question, thank you :)

my bottom five were so hard to pick bc i don't spend too much time thinking abut the characters i dislike, but eventually i settled on sebastian (obviously), quinn, brittany, rory, and ryder.

sebastian: smooth criminal.

how could i not put this one? this is absolutely iconic and probably one of the most memorable songs/scenes in the whole show. i'll even put aside my anti-sebastian bias to say that they both sound gorgeous, the chemistry and tension (not sexual, they're both gay) is fantastic, and i love the arrangement of the song and the choreography. not to mention, i'm absolutely obsessed with 2CELLOS' aggressive playing in the background. i've liked them for years and it was such a delight to see them do their signature thing on the show.

oh...and santana won ;)

brittany: wishin' and hopin'

i may not be the biggest fan of brittany as a character, but i absolutely adore her voice. it was pleasant and sweet in s2, but over the years heather really came into her own as a vocalist and she really shows it off here. i love, love, love the way she sounds in this song, and i love the features from the other characters as well. 

the sequence itself is also so much fun! i love brittany and artie dancing together with all of the background singers, i love the beautiful white heaven vibe, i love blaine and sam being cute angels in the background, and i love lord tubbington chilling in the background. not to mention that it’s adorable how much brittany loves santana here...that quote about her feeling like she’s in heaven whenever she’s with santana is such an under appreciated and beautiful line. this song is just an all time fave for me <3

quinn: come see about me.

i really really love this one!! quinn sounds angelic, the song itself suited her voice excellently, and brittany and santana's backing vocals are pure perfection.  i also love the cute little choreographed dance that the UHT do, as well as the callbacks to i say a little prayer in the performance. not to get emotional about the unholy trinity but it really is so sweet that their first group audition was about quinn trying to keep tabs on her boyfriend and brittana trying to spy on the glee club, while this performance was just the three of them having fun and being there solely bc they wanted to be there :)

ryder: no scrubs

i couldn’t think of any solos or duets that i really liked, so i’m going to go with no scrubs bc it’s one of my absolute favorite group numbers! the song is great, all the boys sound fantastic here, and there’s something so funny about a group of (mostly) straight boys singing a song about men being shitty. also...there’s this hilarious ryder moment that always makes me laugh. 

rory: what makes you beautiful

again, i couldn’t think of any good solos, so i’m going to go with what makes you beautiful from the s3 prom. i have a lot of nostalgia attached to it, bc it was the very first glee cover i ever heard and it showing up in my spotify playlists years later was what convinced me to rewatch the show. while it doesn’t hold a candle to the original, it’s still a fun, cute cover and i like it. glee really should've done more one direction, honestly.

my top 5 always switches around, but right now i'd say my five favorite characters are kurt, blaine, mercedes, santana, and rachel. i struggled a bit to find songs i disliked from this set of characters because i really do enjoy all of their voices so much, but eventually i got it :)

kurt: candles.

i feel like this is obvious and doesn’t require an explanation 😂 but also my hc as to why this song sounds so bad is bc kurt and blaine spent more time ‘practicing’ than actually practicing...if you know what i mean 👀

blaine: against all odds.

i'm not a fan of the actual song, i think darren's vocals were shaky and borderline unlistenable, and also, i...don't like the context and i don't like the whole fandom debate that it's sparked. i'm not going to go in detail bc i'm tired of that discourse, so let's just say that the whole argument really annoys me and ruined the song for me.

i will maintain, though, that it was sung to sam but the lyrics were about kurt. that is a hill i choose to die on.

mercedes: defying gravity.

normally i adore mercedes's voice and songs so, so much...but homegirl had no place singing that song with kurt and rachel. it's not even mercedes's fault, tbh - i would've gotten mad if it was anyone else singing that song with them bc to me it sort of ruined the nostalgia of the ep to have a whole new person added to the song. that was rachel and kurt's song in s1, and i just wanted to hear the two of them sing it with their more mature voices.

poor kurt improved the most and barely even got to show off during the number bc mercedes and rachel were too busy being petty and having an unnecessary diva off while kurt just wanted to sing and have fun. also...idk why but i absolutely hated mercedes's arrangement of the song 😩 it just didn't fit and to me it ruined the whole song/scene.

(i think this is the one and only time anything mercedes did bothered me...i'm sorry mercedes i still love you so much 🥺 )

santana: the chipmunk song.

it was really, really hard to find a bad santana song because i adore her voice and she's talented enough to make the worst of songs sound good...but then i remembered that PUC existed and so does this monstrosity.

i just wanna travel back in time, break into the writers' room, and have a talk with whoever thought that this whole episode was a good idea, just to ask them why? about the entire garbage ep and especially about this song. you could've given so many fun and incredible songs to kurtcheltana but you chose this crap? i can't even form coherent criticisms of that ep bc my only thought is "why. just why" 🥴

rachel: poker face

i wonder...did the glee writers know what this song was about? who saw this song and decided that it was appropriate for a mother-daughter duo to sing? the arrangement is also absolutely awful (i couldn’t even tell that this was supposed to be poker face until the chorus). not to mention, shelby’s character is the gddamn worst, and not even her voice can save me from suffering through her scenes. i just...still can’t believe that glee got idina menzel on their show and wasted her on the shittiest character possible.
