- Micropenis jokes are intersexist and not funny
- Intersex genital mutilation (IGM) is still allowed in nearly every country
- AFAB TransFem, AMAB TransMasc, Cis Trans, and Cis Non-binary are important terms for many Intersex folks
Include Intersex folks in your activism.

Intersex Awareness Day
Today is Intersex Awareness Day! Intersex people are born with sex characteristics that don’t meet medical and social norms for female or male bodies. You can learn a little more about what this means here.
Intersex Awareness Day is celebrated every October 26, commemorating the first recorded public protest by intersex people in North America, which took place in 1996.
Led by activists Morgan Holmes and Max Beck, a group of intersex people and their trans allies gathered outside the American Academy of Pediatrics annual convention to protest the non-consensual and medically unneccesary procedures often performed on intersex children to “normalise” their bodies. They spoke in particular about the importance of listening to intersex people in making decisions about their own bodies. As Max said at the time:
“I’m here representing over one hundred fifty intersexals [sic] throughout North America. One hundred fifty intersexuals are saying: Please! Listen! You doctors, you pediatric endocrinologists and urologists treating intersexuals, you nurses interacting with intersexuals and their families, listen to us! We understand intersexuality, not because we have studied the medical literature—although many of us have—not because we have performed surgeries, but because we have been grappling with intersexuality every day of our lives.”
The activists held a banner which read “Hermaphrodites with Attitude”; as Morgan explains, it was “a caustically cheeky title that refused to be ploughed under into shame at finding the term “hermaphrodite” or “pseudo-hermaphrodite” in all of our medical records.”
You can read Morgan Holmes’s account of the protest it here, and Max Beck’s here.
(Note that while intersex people do not necessarily consider themselves queer, queer and intersex communities have a lot of shared history, and, as in 1996, have often worked together to combat the narrow expectations of binary sex and gender imposed on them by society.)

It is October 26th, intersex awareness day! Intersex friends, today is for us. I'd like to share this quote from Sean Saifa Wall:
"By connecting with other intersex people, it literally saved my life, because we had the constant script that we are alone, that we are rare. I think intersex activism, and intersex justice actually lets people know that we are not alone” -Liberating All Bodies: Disability Justice and Intersex Justice in Conversation.
We are not alone. We are valuable, and our intersex identity is worth celebrating. Our community knowledge, care for each other, and solidarity is worth celebrating. Our intersex joy is worth celebrating.
When so many of us experience trauma, violence, and isolation, awareness days can bring all sorts of emotion to us. There is room for all of the messiness--whatever being intersex means to you is important, and you deserve the space to express yourself.
Feel free to add on this post and tell us how you're celebrating intersex awareness day today--whatever that looks like for you.
For anyone who wants to learn more about intersex, check out this post and our resources.

“Intersex people know all too well what it feels like to be non-consensually placed in a box based on societal assumptions and expectations,” Brown-King adds. “It’s time to get rid of the boxes!”

Happy Intersex awareness day! I found this a bit ago, but here is the entire collection of Hermaphrodites With Attitude, an intersex newsletter that ran starting in 1994 until 2005.
The newsletter features intersex people from all over talking about their lives. There is a lot focused on the medical treatment of intersex people at the time, but there is also information about rallies and protests, news, and people talking about their lives!

A little something for Intersex Awareness Day! 🙌💛💜
Maned lionesses (& antlered does) have had a special place in my heart since I learned about them as a teen. Their existence brought a sense of comfort and pride <3

Today is Intersex Awareness Day and with a painting I made, I’d like to introduce my mom!
They are an artist, activist, author, oracle, generally amazing human being—
and they are also Intersex 💛
I made this painting for them because I am so so proud of them, and i wanted to celebrate them today! In the little way i can :] 💛
The intersex community has gone through an immeasurable amount of struggle, a lot of people don’t even know whats going on because its not talked about so I just wanted to use this day to show my mom, a person who lives their life out loud, and has been a light in so many lives, they have helped so many people intersex and otherwise.
They are just a wonderful person and they deserve to be treated with out prejudice.

Intersex day of awareness
I am a victim of intersex gen¡tal mutil@tion just like so many others around the world. I had surgery I didn't need as a baby without my consent and I now have lifelong issues and trauma because of it. We need to put an end to these surgeries that are often not needed. Most places are more worried about banning consented surgeries for trans people than banning things that actually should be banned. Please listen to our voices and stories, we deserve to have our bodies left alone.
*please do not share this on other platforms without my permission*
if you'd like to show support I do sell pins/stickers also custom art, money goes to help pay for healing needs/therapy/top surgery etc

Today is intersex awareness day! Intersex people, know that we are worthy of love, celebration, and pride. Our relationship to our intersex identity can be complicated, and awareness days can feel difficult to experience, especially when we’ve faced trauma and oppression for being intersex. Know that no matter what your feelings are today, you belong and are allowed to take up space fully as your intersex self.
