Looks like Saraswati? Almost but not exactly. This is the goddess #Rajamatangi seated on a throne in the mukhasana position holding a sarasvativina while she listens to a parrot perched upon her right shoulder. From a series of 100 drawings of Hindu deities created in South India. Description in #telugu. Same like Saraswati, she is the goddess of knowledge, but additionally she is also worshipped for wealth. She plays Veena, but not clad in white. She is considered a form of goddess Parvati, and her consort is Shiva while Bengali Saraswati is considered a consort of Vishnu. Found in Trichy, painted in ca 1825. La Nuit des Étoiles, pigments naturels et synthétiques, gomme arabique et feuille d’argent sur papier wasli. Ces dernières semaines ont fait l’objet de beaucoup de réflexion sur ma pratique de la miniature, lectures et observation d’images traditionnelles. Pour cette période de transition j’ai voulu réinterpréter une miniature faite il y a vingt ans, repartir de ce point de départ, une femme allongée dans un paysage, repenser la composition et peindre avec des matériaux entièrement faits à la main. La particularité du miniaturiste est qu’il fabrique ses propres matériaux. J’ai broyé la totalité des pigments pour cette Nuit Etoilée, et utilisé de la véritable feuille d’argent. Detail from Krishna and Indra, Mughal, probably Lahore, ca. 1590. The Harivamsa ,“Genealogy of Hari” was a continuation of the great Sanskrit text, the Mahabharata. The Mughal emperor Akbar ordered it to be translated into Persian so that it could be read by non-Hindus. In this illustration to the text done in about 1590, Krishna sweeps down on the bird Garuda to triumph over Indra, the lord of the gods, riding on the white elephant Airavata, watched by gods and celestial beings. The swirling fabrics, billowing clouds, and the boat in the lower part of the scene, are all the result of the influence on Mughal court artists of European paintings. The original manuscript was dispersed and some pages were remounted for later albums, as here. The borders were probably added in Lucknow in the 18th century.
