Queen Camilla wore a large heart shaped aquamarine and diamond brooch with a heart shaped pendant. It was announced by Robert Hardman during the service that the brooch was from Queen Elizabeth II’s collection but trondnorenisaksenhistorian has revealed its origins.
Trond, who has been given access to Queen Alexandra’s photographic jewel inventory for a two-part article for Majesty Magazine, has stated in a new post this brooch originally belonged to Queen Alexandra.

The quiet power of Princess Anne
Grace, restraint and graft: in times of crisis, the Princess Royal comes to the fore.
By Camilla Tominey for The Telegraph
When the Princess Royal stood guard with her brothers, with calm dignity, by her late mother Queen Elizabeth’s coffin at the vigil at St Giles’ Cathedral on Monday, she made history as the first woman to do so. But this solemn moment was also emblematic of her dedication to her mother, and the strength and steadfastness of spirit that have long made her a jewel in the Crown.
It was Anne, her trusted confidante, who her mother had chosen to accompany the coffin on its journey from Balmoral, and to fly with it to RAF Northolt from Edinburgh. On her arrival in London, in just 120 words, the Princess Royal last night encapsulated what has been an extraordinarily moving few days.
“I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life,” she wrote in a poignant tribute. “It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys”. She went on to thank mourners for their love and respect and the British public for the support shown to her brother the new King. She ended her statement simply: “To my mother, The Queen, thank you.”
The Princess Royal had been in Scotland for two days when she had to make the dash to her mother’s bedside at Balmoral Castle to see her for the very last time.
Having visited Tarbert, a village in the west, before spending the previous day on the Isle of Skye, the late Queen’s only daughter had been due to carry out a series of engagements in Perthshire last Thursday morning when news reached her of her mother’s deteriorating condition. She quickly informed her siblings of the situation, prompting Charles to take a helicopter to travel from Dumfries House, where he had been staying, to Royal Deeside. If there is any consolation to Queen Elizabeth’s unexpectedly rapid demise, it is that her son and daughter were already in Scotland and could be with her at the end.
Tumblr media
Ever since that heartbreaking day for the royals, the Crown has endured, with the smooth transition to the reign of Charles III supported by a family united in its desire to lead a nation in respectful mourning.
But there has also been one constant: Princess Anne, the ever-dutiful daughter who has played such a dignified role in what the King has described as their late mother’s “last great journey.”
From accompanying the funeral cortège on the poignant six-hour drive through the Scottish Highlands to Edinburgh on Sunday, to yesterday evening’s final flight to London – Anne, 72, has once again proved her willingness to go the extra mile for an institution she has served unwaveringly for more than half a century.
But this wasn’t just a case of a daughter serving Crown and country. Once the arrangements had been made to convey Queen Elizabeth back to Buckingham Palace, ahead of today’s four-day lying in state at Westminster Hall, it was the Princess Royal’s solemn wish that she should be with her every sombre step of the way.
Tumblr media
The decision could not be more symptomatic of Anne and the solid presence she has proved to be for a monarchy that has been riven with sibling rivalry in recent years. Amid all the conflict between the King and Prince Andrew – not to mention the ongoing rift between the Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex – Anne has always risen above: the embodiment of her late mother’s “keep calm and carry on” mantra.
While the grief that was etched on her face as she curtseyed to Queen Elizabeth’s coffin upon its arrival at St Giles’ Cathedral on Monday may have shocked those used to her resolute stoicism, it came as no surprise to those who know the Princess well.
As one friend put it: “I was speaking to someone who used to work for the Princess and we both agreed how distraught she looked. But her dedication to her mother over the years has been tireless. She is just like Queen Elizabeth in being a truly remarkable woman.”
Anne has always quietly got on with the job, sailing through the tricky times by keeping her head down, and focusing on her role as one of the monarchy’s most prolific performers. As well as being one of the hardest-working royals, she has carried out her role without fuss or fanfare, largely eschewing press coverage despite the enormous value of her contribution to The Firm.
Tumblr media
Having never felt the need to surround herself with the trappings of royal life, the famously frugal Princess chose not to give titles to her children, Peter Phillips, 44, and Zara Tindall, 41, preferring them to make their own way in life.
In a sign of just how tight-knit they are, the family all live together on Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate. Zara and her rugby player husband Mike share Aston Farm with their three children Mia, eight, Lena, four and one-year-old Lucas, while a stone’s throw away is the cottage where Peter lives with his daughters Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10. So convivial is the scene that Anne remains on very good terms with her ex-husband Mark Phillips, to whom she was married from 1973 to 1992, and let him live on the estate for years following their divorce.
Visitors to Gatcombe Park, an 18th-century country residence in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, speak of a thoroughly down-to-earth and outdoorsy set-up where, when she’s off-duty, Anne is known to be “warm”, “funny” and “affectionate” towards her children and grandchildren.
Tumblr media
“The Princess is the type of woman who will come up to you and shake your hand rather than expecting you to go to her,” added the friend. “Yes, she is a stickler for protocol but in her private life she is incredibly funny. I remember one time when I asked her which of her grandchildren was the best at riding. I suggested Mia because Zara is such an accomplished horsewoman but the Princess signalled Mia’s lack of interest by doing an impression of the “Am I bovvered?’ character from Catherine Tate. It was exactly like the TV show, which she had clearly watched. “
On another occasion we were at an event and the Princess suddenly asked, “anyone for a sandwich?” and started making cheese and coleslaw sandwiches and handing them out. I’ve often seen her going around with a tray of canapés. She’s just a normal person,” they continued. “Her house at Gatcombe – it’s quite cluttered. I’m sure it probably needs quite a lot of work doing to it, but she deplores waste. She’ll always look to save costs wherever she can.”
Like her late mother, Anne has also found her “strength and stay” in her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, described by those who know him as “kind” and “decent”. “He’s not an exciting person but he’s an absolute gentleman, terribly nice,” was how one insider describes him.
Tumblr media
The couple, who are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary in December, share a love of sailing and have a yacht, Ballochbuie, moored in a remote harbour on the west coast of Scotland. Their sailing holidays, which usually take place in the early summer, sandwiched between the more than 500 engagements that Anne carries out in a year, are considered to be sacrosanct.
So what will happen to the couple now there has been a significant shift in the royal order?
According to one former royal aide: “I don’t think anything will change for the Princess at all. She doesn’t need to do any stepping up, she’s already done that.
“I don’t think there will be any change in her status or titles and she’s never indicated that she wants to slow down,” they add. “She’s a workaholic and incredibly well respected by her charities and patronages, so she’ll surely just keep calm and carry on.”
There is no suggestion that Zara or Mike will take on any public duties, although both do their bit for charity – and will act as stalwart supports to the Prince and Princess of Wales, to whom they are very close (Zara is Prince George’s only royal godparent while it is thought William is Mia’s godfather).
Tumblr media
Anne’s proximity in age to the King, 73, means that, of all the siblings, she will likely act as his closest confidante – but they have always led quite separate lives. With their brother Andrew having stepped back from royal duties, Anne will continue to be a “front-row royal” along with the Earl and Countess of Wessex in the court of King Charles.
But first they face the not inconsiderable task of laying their late mother to rest. Having played a central role in Monday night’s “Vigil of the Princes”, when she became the first female to ever take part in the historic ritual, Anne will once again be prominent in today’s walking procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall – as well as Monday’s concluding ceremony.
Long regarded as a “Daddy’s girl” thanks to her similar no-nonsense temperament to Prince Philip, what we have learned this sorrowful week is that the woman who was never destined to be Queen has proved herself once again to be every inch her mother’s daughter.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11921479/amp/It-big-mistake-Queen-Consort-Camilla-reject-ivory-sceptre-Coronation.html
Lookie here - our favorite Pearl clutcher in Chief was WRONG again (just like when he exclusively told us the Coronation was in June). His speculation caused so much vile comments towards Queen Camilla from “royalists” and fed the “KC3 is too woke” trolls.
Meanwhile since Eden was proved wrong, the Daily Mail has a new article out to drag Camilla for using the ivory sceptre, which will no doubt keep the hate train going.
The Fleet Street circus rolls on 🎪
There's Richard's pearl clutching article, above.
Camilla will be crowned alongside her husband the King on May 6, during an ancient ceremony at Westminster Abbey featuring deeply symbolic objects representing the royal duties and responsibilities of the sovereign.
It has now emerged that she will hold two sceptres, will court controversy by using one made with ivory.
[...]
But despite the Prince's vehement position, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Sunday that the sceptre would be among the regalia used at the coronation.
The ivory sceptre is part of the crown jewels and regalia held in trust by the monarch for the nation.
The crown jewels form part of the Royal Collection and have traditionally been held at the Tower of London which is managed by Historic Royal Palaces.
Kathryn Jones, senior curator of decorative arts, at the Royal Collection Trust, speaking about previous coronation ceremonies, said: 'The Queen is also presented with two sceptres... this is again this symbol of temporal power - so with the cross.
'And the second sceptre, like the King's sceptre, has the dove on the top, (and is) symbolic of equity and mercy.
And this one the wings are folded, rather than spread, it has the same symbolism - so it's the Holy Spirit.'
The original coronation regalia was destroyed by order of parliament after King Charles I was executed after the Civil War, briefly leading to a republic with Oliver Cromwell as the head of state.
The regalia was broken up and melted down into gold coins and the jewels were sold.
The ivory staff which Camilla will use was made in 1685 by Sir Robert Vyner for Queen Mary of Modena, the wife of James II.
She was the first Queen Consort to participate in a coronation ceremony following the restoration of the monarchy in 1660.
Symbolic of the monarch's spiritual power, it is topped with a distinctive enamelled dove with spread wings.
The three-foot-seven-inch-long staff cost £440 in 1661 and is encircled in four places with jewelled colours.
A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: 'As with any historical collection of its size, it is to be expected that the Royal Collection includes items that contain ivory as this reflected the taste at the time.'
The use of the sceptre was confirmed as part of an announcement from the palace on the regalia that will feature at the service, including the Sovereign's Ring and St Edward's Crown.
I swear that Richard gets paid to pearl clutch every week. He wouldn't have anything else to say otherwise.
We may need to fetch that man some smelling salts if his belt is on too tight and he faints.

That Book (excuse the long post)
I didn't want to jump into the fray without first thinking over the published extracts of FF and the various critiques and synopses in the press. I'd just like to send huge thanks to YankeeWallee and everyone that YW herself thanks for the collated screenshots of the excerpts and RoyahNikkah's review. I'll do what the rest of you do and state here that these are my personal opinions and anything quoted comes under "fair usage", etc. Long live free speech!
My over-riding reaction is, what an absolute pile of lies, lies and more lies. Starting with Scobie's sources, of which he says there are at least two per nugget of information. I believe most of the book has come directly or indirectly from MM herself, and that any "sources" have MM's blessing, sanction or outright order to disclose. FaceTiming in the bath? How would Scobie know? Unless he was in the bath with her, this can only have come from herself or the friend being FaceTimed. There is too much of a highly personal nature for it to be Scobie's own investigative work. So there's the first lie, straight from the weirdly-toothy Sussexy horse's mouth; of course she collaborated!
Some of us had our reservations right from the start of Harry and MM's relationship, but we were prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt and join in the welcome of a biracial, divorced American actress. Right-wing, left-wing, a-political or not-royally-bothered, we all thought, Let's give the pair a chance to see what they can do.
How about this article from Spiked on the engagement of Harry & MM from 2017:
Meghan Markle: Generation Woke's Princess Diana - spiked
"...look no further than the fawning response to the engagement of Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle – one of those rare occasions in which both the Telegraph editorial team and the identity-politics set erupted in simultaneous celebration."
How quickly the celebration wore off as the pair of them squandered our goodwill. Another article from Spiked from July 2019, less than two years later, is harsher, when we've all been insulted, preached at and condemned as racists by PH&MM:
Meghan Markle is the worst kind of snob - spiked
"With the possible exception of a few sad social outcasts, no one has a problem with the fact that Meghan’s mum just happens to be black. No, Meghan is criticised for being snobby, elitist, hopelessly out of touch and possessing all the self-awareness of a flea. It’s not Meghan’s skin colour that annoys people, but the fact that she thinks nothing of donning an outfit that costs more than most people in the UK earn in a year and then getting her minders to order the public not to take photos of her. [...] There are heaps of reasons for people not just to criticise Meghan and Harry, but to ridicule their hypocrisy and puncture their pomposity. And not one involves the colour of Meghan’s skin. Meghan comes in for criticism because she is the worst kind of snob who condescends to tell others not just what to do, but also what to think. The fact that she is biracial is completely irrelevant. Of course, there is an obvious solution for Harry and Meghan if they do not like the public attention and criticism. Harry could denounce his claim to the throne. They could give up the titles, move out of the palaces and fund their own lifestyle. I can’t for the life of me imagine why they don’t."
Prescient, no? Six months later and they announce they're off. She played him like a fiddle. The raptures she went into over Botswana and wanting the spend the summer? Did she feed his fantasies of moving to Africa permanently? How strange that Africa became Canada, which then became Los Angeles? Strange my perky little bottom! She had this planned all along. I don't know if PH is with her over there, but she certainly seems to be feeding the illusion that she is now Hollywood Royalty. If she couldn't cut real Royalty, she definitely won't cut the LaLaLand version which is a lot less restrained in voicing its opinions of jumped-up wannabes. Especially the Markly ones who cut, dump, run and show no loyalty or staying power.
The following points, in no particular order, are mostly from an assortment of DM writers and comments from members of the public.
"The book claims the so-called ‘old guard’ tried to undermine the couple and ‘were concerned that the global interest in and popularity of the Sussexes needed to be reined in’." A little self-aggrandisement here, possibly? Global interest, maybe, of the rubber-necking car crash variety, but global popularity? When was that, exactly? Royal staff are all well aware that the purpose of the Royals is to support HMTQ; that is their job. If the Sussexes needed reining in at all, it was because they weren't doing their job properly.
"Harry and Meghan believed ‘few inside the palace were looking out for their interests’ and felt that most courtiers could not be trusted with their sensitive information." Ditto, the courtiers' job is to look out for the interests of HMTQ; PH&MM's job was to look out for the interests of HMTQ, not themselves.
"They believed that these ‘men in grey suits’ were stifling their attempts to launch their initiatives, and when they tried to air these frustrations ‘the conversations didn’t lead anywhere’." I mean, come on! PH is 6th in line. He knows that. There is no "they" involved here - it's all MM again, isn't it, thinking she's more important because she's more popular and she famously gets what she wants... She thought she could snap her fingers and make whatever she wanted happen. She ignored the hierarchy and the protocols, and probably (I suspect) got dimwit Harry believing that she knew best, and that together they could change the world.
"One source said Harry felt that some of the old guard at the palace ‘simply didn’t like Meghan and would stop at nothing to make her life difficult’." I can well believe that staff at the palace didn't like her - she showed her true colours quite early on - but deliberately making her life difficult? I suspect this is what MM told Harry. Twisted the truth, naturally. I'm guessing she made a few ridiculous OTT demands, or wanted some unworkable project, and the staff, knowing their jobs as they do, tried to point out the flaws in her ideas, prevent her making a fool of herself, or otherwise politely protect her from herself. Goodness knows, she made a fool of herself often enough, barging in front and all that...
"The book concludes that Meghan was ‘totally foreign’ to this group of advisers, who ‘could sometimes be even more conservative than the institution they guarded’." They were guarding an institution with over a thousand years of history from someone with neither understanding of nor respect for British history, the Monarchy, or the duties of the RF; and she made no effort to learn.
"Another insider said: ‘The fact is that Meghan was welcomed with open arms and everyone did their best to offer their help about how to navigate such a tricky public role – advice she would often choose to ignore." The arrogance of the woman! And she was welcomed. She just believed that she knew best.
"Omid Scobie said Meghan’s high-profile career as an actress and the fact that she was a divorcee left her ‘ripe for exploitation’." High-profile career, mwah! Actress, mwah! Divorcee, so what? Charles and Camilla are both divorce/es, Anne is a divorcee, so is Andrew, and a whole bunch of other lesser royals. As for being ripe for exploitation, I think we all know how this panned out and MM wasn't the one being exploited! Far from it. She milked every opportunity and opening her new title and her new husband could bring her.
"During one of their final engagements as senior royals, Meghan was ‘purposefully snubbed’ by Kate in front of a global TV audience, the authors claim." Well now, where to start on this one? MM threw a hissy fit because she wasn't allowed to walk in the procession with HMTQ, C&C and DDoC. The DDoC decided to appease MM by pulling out of the procession and taking their seats. Now I don't know what DDoC thought about that but I can just imagine them comparing MM's behaviour with that of their own beautifully behaved kids. I can just imagine them thinking thank God she'll be gone soon! I doubt there was any purposeful snubbing at the service but MM has no manners and no idea how to behave, not even in church. The DDoC are too well brought-up to "carry on" in a place of worship, nor would they lean across seats for a happy little chat, just a quick turn round for a friendly word with Edward and Sophie immediately behind them before the arrival of C&C and HMTQ. Churches are not places to be gossiping and grinning inanely, and you definitely don't push your way through the chairs when the service is over! She is so rude and ill-mannered.
"The book claims Meghan and Kate’s ‘cordial but distant rapport’ was apparent when the pair appeared alongside each other at the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day last summer." I don't remember the dates exactly, but I should think by this time DoC was well and truly fed up with MM's shenanigans; the doe-eyes she'd been pulling at PW, the rumours she and the SS had been fanning about PW and une petite liaison with a long-time friend... Cordial but distant was probably the best MM could hope for at this stage; DoC was hardly about to play Happy Families with the troublemaker.
"The couple were dismayed when no photograph of them and their son Archie was displayed during the Queen’s Christmas speech last year." It was quite clear that the photos on display represented the direct line of succession, from HMTQ's father through to her great-grandson - five generations of the Monarchy. I truly believe that MM wanted to "modernise" the RF to such an extent that PH would be elected King! With MM at his side, dripping in all the jewels she could get her greedy mitts on! I realise it must be hard for PH to get to grips with his status as "Pretty Much Relegated Former Spare", but she must have been really feeding his insecurities if she got him upset about the absence of a photograph.
"Prince Harry was the first to say 'I love you' in his relationship with Meghan Markle, with friends revealing the couple were 'immediately obsessed' with each other, according to the latest extract of a bombshell biography." Oooh, how would Scobie know something as intimate as this? Immediately obsessed with each other, I can well believe; MM with his status, title, money, the palaces, the jewels... and she reeled him into her fantasy world with lies and perfectly posed KamaSutra yoga until he was obsessed with this chameleon woman, at the same time both mother-figure and hot, sexy, adoring, sophisticated, intelligent, humanitarian animal lover. Oh the lies, the lies; "Will you walk into my parlour, said the Spider to the Fly."
"They enjoyed a romantic dinner, with staff taking great pains to ensure their privacy, whisking them in through a staff entrance usually used to bring in fish discreetly." This is their second date at SoHo House, and again, how would Scobie know little details unless MM had told him herself? I like the hint of shade by the writer noting that the entrance was used to bring in fish discreetly - there's definitely something fishy about MM!
How about some comments from DM readers?
"Every single shameless self-serving tabloid "leak" and publicity stunt she has orchestrated has backfired specularly. Hence why Harry has gone from beloved military man and active working Royal to a national embarrassment within two short years! Her efforts at aggressive self-promotion are no match for her lack of talent or perspective in that area. She could have heeded advice from other, more dedicated Royals, but No. Meghan knew better and decided that she was deserving of instant worship fit for her 'celebrity' expectations. The Duchess of Cambridge has earned respect over years with quiet dedication to her causes. Meghan felt entitled to all the glory instantly, and was clearly slighted to learn that respect is not something to be commanded. She is a culture vulture with no respect or understanding of the very people that she promised to represent." [Jace T Adams]
"The narrative of the relationship is laughable. Everyone knows they first met in Canada when Harry was there for Invictus. He needed a girl for the night and Meghan was arranged for him. She must have been impressive as they had a date the next day and the rest is history." [Lady M]
"You can't work with someone you don't trust and these two have proven untrustworthy." [ellegrav]
I have no inside information on any of above, but people better placed than I am are making similar judgments on the contents of FF; people who've spent their working lives following and reporting on the RF.
"The Queen’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter told the Mail: ‘I think it has their fingerprints all over it. We had a similar scenario in 1992 when Diana swore blind she hadn’t helped Andrew Morton and yet a year later it came out that she had indirectly helped him so history is repeating itself. ‘There are too many things that we have seen in the serialisation that could only come from the horse’s mouth, like deciding to gatecrash Sandringram when they landed from Canada."
And Jan Moir: JAN MOIR on the Meghan and Harry biography that has put ...
What did the pair of them want or expect? Top billing, it seems. What is remarkable is that Harry’s whole life and entire upbringing have been devoted and calibrated to him being a prince. Surely he understands how it works? Surely he could have explained the system to his vexed new bride? Primarily, that being royal is a form of active service, with ranks and a hierarchy so uncomplicated that schoolchildren throughout the realm understand the line of succession and its importance to the Windsors — and to us.
And Robert Hardman: ROBERT HARDMAN: Harry and Meghan are ... - dailymail.co.uk
Yet Finding Freedom is a struggle against protocol and seating plans. It is based on the perceived unfairness of a pecking order which has governed — and preserved — the monarchy for 1,000 years.
We can't all be wrong!

The Way to His Heart Was Through His Stomachache
Tumblr media
Three weeks after Jennifer Camilla Berger and Jesse Prestwood-Taylor began dating in summer 2014 they came down with a bout of food poisoning together. (They blame an avocado).
“My parents are both doctors,” she said. “I know what to do when I feel sick. Rest, hydrate, ibuprofen.”
Her unflappable, kind nature, with the help of Gatorade, came through so clearly during the ordeal that Mr. Prestwood-Taylor fell in love.
In February 2014, a mutual friend introduced them, perfunctorily, in a group of about a half-dozen other local University of Chicago alumni at a Hawaiian restaurant in Chicago. She graduated in 2013, he in 2009.
Ms. Berger, 29, is now a judicial law clerk to Chad F. Kenney, a United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She received a law degree cum laude from Temple University.
In April 2014, when they played Cards Against Humanity at a friend’s apartment, they were the only ones to laugh at each other’s anonymous fill-in-the-blank comments. He was also the only one to chip in for the beer she brought.
“For me it’s standard, you chip in,” said Mr. Prestwood-Taylor, 34, now a data manager at Instagram in New York.
They chatted briefly, but his thoughtfulness did not escape her, and she filed it away.
“We were always at the same events,” she said. “I found Jesse really easy to talk to. It’s hard not to like him.”
In June, they began exchanging texts.
“I started to drop hints I wanted to go out,” said Ms. Berger, but he held back, concerned about what would happen to their friendship and circle of friends if things did not work out.
Undeterred she asked him out. “Hey, we should play tennis,” she said at a party.
On a weekday evening in July, after about an hour-and-a-half of equally-competitive and evenly-matched rallies at an outdoor court, they went for sushi.
“The vibe,” he said, “neither of us wanted the date to end.”
They walked two miles to his apartment, and then hung out on his balcony where they had wine, and he kissed her.
“I felt comfortable saying I wasn’t looking for anything casual,” she said, and he agreed. “It was instantly serious.”
Three weeks later, after going to a bar with friends, they went back to her place and shared an avocado in the fridge. In the middle of the night they woke up violently ill. By noon, they still weren’t feeling well.
“I mustered the strength to go to a gas station across the street, and picked up six bottles of Gatorade,” she said.
They skipped a Drake and Lil Wayne concert that afternoon, and then work the next day.
“I felt trust and vulnerability,” he said, and recalled thinking, “I’m in love with this person.”
In June 2015 they got an apartment together in Chicago, but a couple of months later she decided to apply to law schools, and chose Temple in Philadelphia. He agreed to go with her if marriage was down the road.
“We were going to get married at some point,” she said. She was finally ready after she passed the bar exam.
“He’d been ready for years,” she said. “I kept kicking the can down the road.”
In January 2020, he proposed at their house in Philadelphia after he picked up the ring from a local jeweler. As she organized books with her back to him, he announced he had a question. When she turned around, he was on one knee. They planned to marry at Philadelphia City Hall in July 2021, but with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic their plans changed.
“I felt the world was an uncertain place,” she said. “Why wait?”
On Feb. 27, they had a self-uniting ceremony with immediate family at an apartment owned by the bride’s mother in Philadelphia. They celebrated with champagne, 15 small pizza pies, Korean fried chicken, an orange olive oil cake and a chocolate one with ganache filling.

Behind The Scenes With Directors Of Fashion-Focused 'Made In Italy' TV Series
Anyone looking for quality clothing today knows to look for the “Made in Italy” label. And now the story behind the label is getting the serial treatment in a new television series from Mediaset, co-produced by Taodue Film and The Family. Created by Camilla Nesbitt, the show will map out the rise of Italy as a global fashion player.
Fashion has always been a key part of Italian heritage since the Middle Ages and Renaissance, when the country produced extravagant textiles that became popular across Europe. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael influenced the fashions of the time in paintings that showcased the country’s wealthy set, draped in decadent velvet, silk and jewels.
Greta Ferro (right) as Irene at Appeal Magazine.
Italy became a key player once again in the '50s and '60s as celebrities from Jackie Kennedy to Audrey Hepburn sought out bespoke work from Gucci and Valentino. But it wasn’t until the '70s that the industry became ingrained in every corner of the world as the everyday consumer craved high-end fashion and street wear that waltzed into stores right off the runway. Milan exploded as the global fashion capital, specializing in ready-to-wear, as brands including Versace, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana opened up shop.
Made in Italy, directed by Luca Lucini and Ago Panini, tells the story through the eyes of Irene Mastrangelo (Greta Ferro), a young journalist who embarks upon a life-changing career at the prestigious fashion magazine Appeal under editor-in-chief Rita Pasini (Margherita Buy).
In the series, Mastrangelo is a firsthand witness to the shift of Italian fashion from haute couture to pret-a-porter as designers including Giorgio Armani (Raoul Bova), Walter Albini (Gaetano Bruno), Krizia’s Mariuccia Mandelli (Stefania Rocca), Gianni Versace (Achille Marciano), Miuccia Prada (Caterina Carpio), Rosita and Ottavio Missoni (Claudia Pandolfi, Enrico Loverso), Elio Fiorucci (Stefano Fregni), Gianfranco Ferre (Silvio Cavallo), Valentino Garavani and more attempt to build their empires.
Greta Ferro as Irene at Appeal Magazine on Made in Italy
The show zeroes in on the personalities, the inspirations and the imaginations of the creative giants, and, of course, the photographers, including Richard Avedon (Wayne Maser). As business grows, visionary manager Beppe Modenese (Bebo Storti) reconciles the quarrelsome Italian brands into an economic powerhouse that could rival France’s dominance over the industry.
The Federation is handling international sales for the eight-episode series, which will premiere this spring in Italy on Canale 5. A U.S. distributor has not yet been announced.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Lucini and Panini about the appeal behind Made in Italy, a universal story that changed the country forever.
Margherita Buy with directors Luca Lucini and Ago Panini
What is most misunderstood about the world of Italian fashion?
Everybody knows Italian fashion today. But very few know the artists behind well-known worldwide brands like Krizia, Armani, Ferre and so on. So, especially for new generations, we think it is important to know the origins, which took place mostly in Milan in the mid-'70s.
What do you hope this story conveys to audiences?
A lot of the series that are coming out of Italy these days are crime stories. They show a violent and crude side of our country, which, unfortunately, exists, but it is not the only story to tell. The history of fashion in Italy is a great one, and a 100 percent real one. It’s a story of passion, a unique marriage between taste, ideas, craziness and the great ability of designers to read the times.
What is the drama at the center of this story?
We can certainly describe Made in Italy as a personal journey of a young girl, Irene (our protagonist), unable to live within the female parameters of her time. But by meeting incredible fashion talents, as well as a group of unique and unforgettable persons, she is able to make a life of her own. She becomes an independent woman — tough, intense, passionate and constantly in love with fashion and its creators.
Models at Krizia fashion show
What kind of audience do you think this show will appeal to?
We think this show is addressed to anyone who loves good stories, the kinds of stories where a young person overcomes difficulties with a lot of energy, passion and humor. On top of that, we hope to be able to tell the “big story” behind this one: the history of the fashion industry in Milan. And we also hope to be able to talk to young people who need to start dreaming big again, as our characters do. Because nothing is impossible if you are really motivated.
How challenging was it to cast the designers?
Some of the designers are alive (like Giorgio Armani and Rosita Missoni). Some others have left us. We decided to consider the designers as “special guests” in Irene’s life. And we wanted to give the audience the same feeling. That’s why we decided to cast big Italian names to play the designers, such as Raoul Bova, Stefania Rocca, Gaetano Bruno and Claudia Pandolfi. It was really fun to challenge these big actors to envision the original designers.
How much of the wardrobe is authentic and how much was recreated?
We decided to use only real vintage pieces for the designers’ atelier pieces. We reproduced some of the everyday clothes. Probably 70 to 80 percent of the wardrobe is authentic. We flew dresses from collections from all over the world. Some of the Krizia clothes came from Japan!
Greta Ferro (right) as Irene, at Appeal Magazine on Made in Italy
What was the best and most challenging part of going through the fashion archives of each house?
The best part was, of course, becoming sort of “intimate” with these great people. It was incredibly inspiring to have conversations with living witnesses of that incredible time. Everyone we talked to had shiny and watery eyes just remembering a time when everything was possible, and dreams were so close to reality, that you could touch them with a finger. Of course. the fashion world is very protective of opening its secret archives, so it was a hard job to gain these people’s trust. But we did it.
Which archives were opened for the first time for this series?
Some of Walter Albini’s [the influential and largely forgotten stylist was considered the forefather of Italian fashion] objects and clothes, such as the “Klimt” look, are shown almost for the first time and definitely for the first time in a TV show. Most of the jewels that we had on set came with armed security, straight out of designers' archives. There was a huge research phase, made by a very determined team of fashion journalists, to create the right connection between the show and the design houses.
Behind-the-Scenes at Milan's Castello Sforzesco.
What was a personal highlight of shooting the show for you?
The two days we spent shooting at the real Missoni factory were truly touching. To be able to breathe and share Rosita’s memories, in her house, it is really something hard to forget.
Are there any particular pieces shown that really represent the history of Italian fashion?
In our first season, we focused on the roots of what then became the “Italian fashion system,” so the audience will witness, for instance, the birth of the world-famous unstructured jacket by Armani, even if the most iconic pieces would come in the early ‘80s.

The best royal tiaras: Meghan Markle, Princess Diana and Kate Middleton's bridal jewels and their history - Evening Standard
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hottest luxury and A List news
As the ultimate jewellery status symbol, tiaras are mostly the reserve of royalty and aristocrats. Heirloom pieces passed down from generation-to-generation, each tiara has a history as rich as its design.
There’s a few you’ll probably recognise, like Queen Elizabeth II’s Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara (which appears on British currency) as well as the Cartier creation Kate Middleton picked for her wedding day in 2011. But royal families on the continent have some pretty spectacular tiaras of their own, featuring gobstopper-sized sapphires and exquisite botanical motifs.
British royal dress code rules dictate that only married women can wear tiaras. As etiquette expert Grant Harrold told the BBC, “for married ladies [a tiara was traditionally] a sign of status and would show you were taken and not looking for a husband. For the gentleman it was a clear sign not to make advances towards the lady in question.”
Last year Meghan Markle’s wedding sparked a bridal tiara trend. After the ceremony, Debenhams reported that searches on their site for “bridal tiara” climbed by 117%, as people sought a bit of (affordable) headgear for their own big day.
Here’s some of the most breathtaking tiaras worn by royal women. If we had one of these we wouldn’t take it off – even in the bath.
Meghan Markle’s Wedding Tiara: The Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Meghan Markle, Queen Mary
There was speculation over which tiara bride-to-be Meghan Markle would choose to wear on her wedding day – if she chose to wear one at all. While some people put money on her wearing Princess Diana’s beloved Spencer tiara, in the end she opted for the Queen Mary Bandeau Tiara.
The tiara was loaned to Meghan by Queen Elizabeth for her nuptials to Prince Harry, which took place in May last year. Before the Duchess of Sussex wore it on her big day, the tiara hadn’t been worn in 65 years. It was previously worn and well loved by Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother.
(Getty Images)
Like a lot of royal tiaras, it has a dual purpose. The centrepiece is also a brooch, which was given to Queen Mary on her wedding day. Set with ten massive diamonds, the brooch is detachable, and the band can be adjusted in size as it’s made up of eleven different sections.
If you look closely at Meghan’s wedding day photos, you might notice the base of the tiara is wrapped in a thin strip of black velvet. Royal jewellery blog Order of Splendor say that this was added for the wedding day so that the tiara “disappeared into her hair“.
Kate Middleton’s Wedding Tiara: The Cartier Halo Tiara
(AFP/Getty Images)
Worn by: Kate Middleton
This tiara became famous when Kate Middleton wore it to marry Prince William. It was first bought in 1936 by King George VI, who gave it to his wife Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) as a gift.
The tiara is set with over 1000 diamonds (739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baguette diamonds). The Royal Collection Trust also add that it was crafted as a “band of 16 graduated scrolls”.
(Getty Images)
Although other royals have re-worn their wedding tiaras, Kate has yet to wear the Cartier Halo Tiara again. That might be because it’s been something of a hot ticket since the wedding, exhibited in 2011 at Buckingham palace (above) and at a 2018 Cartier exhibition in Australia.
Princess Eugenie’s Wedding Tiara: The Greville Kokoshnik Emerald Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Eugenie
For her nuptials to Jack Brooksbank, Queen Elizabeth let her granddaughter borrow the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara. According to the Royal Family’s official website, it was crafted by Boucheron in the “kokoshnik style popularised in the Russian Imperial Court” and was made for Dame Margaret Greville (who left it to Queen Elizabeth II).
The central emerald is apparently 93.7 carats (yes, you read that right – 93), set in a platinum band with brilliant and rose cut diamonds. According to a royal biography by Robert Jobson, the tiara was rumoured to be Meghan Markle’s first choice for her wedding, but the Queen reportedly preferred she wore one that did not have links to Russia.
Princess Diana’s Wedding Tiara: Spencer Tiara
(Graham Harrison/REX/Shutterstock)
Worn by: Princess Diana, Celia McCorquodale
This tiara isn’t technically a royal piece but still deserves a spot in the hall of fame. When Lady Diana married Prince Charles, she paid homage to her own family with the Spencer Tiara. The piece had been in the family for decades and had gone through many changes, as the family added a topper and extended the ends of the tiara with other pieces in their jewellery collection. By the 1930s, it was fully complete and many women of the Spencer family have worn it on their wedding day ever since.
If you look closely, you’ll see that the silver tiara’s many diamonds are set in tulips, scrolls and other floral patterns. After Diana’s death, the tiara hadn’t been seen in public for years until Princess Diana’s niece Celia McCorquodale wore it for her own wedding last June.
The Lover’s Knot Tiara
(REX/Shutterstock)
Worn by: Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, Queen Mary
The Lover’s Knot Tiara is one of the most famous pieces in the royal vault, and was one of Princess Diana’s favourites. The Court Jeweller reports that the tiara was actually created from another piece called the Ladies of England tiara by Queen Mary, who later passed it down to Queen Elizabeth II.
(Getty Images)
Apparently Princess Diana was supposed to wear the tiara as her something borrowed on her wedding day, but instead chose to wear her family’s Spencer Tiara. After Diana passed away the tiara disappeared from the public eye, until Kate Middleton wore it in 2015 for a state banquet. The tiara is made up of diamonds and hanging pearls set in silver and gold. It was reportedly so heavy it used to give Princess Diana headaches.
The Greville Tiara (Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara)
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Mother, Duchess of Cornwall
This is one of the most architectural pieces on the list and was one of the Queen Mother’s favourites – she chose to wear it for an official portrait. Also known as the Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara, this piece was originally created by Boucheron for Dame Margaret Greville, the same woman who owned Princess Eugenie’s wedding tiara.
After Greville (a close friend of Queen Mary) passed away, the tiara was passed onto the Queen Mother who wore it out constantly and even had extra diamonds added to the top row, according to Order of Splendor.
(Getty Images)
Since then, the Queen has loaned it to her daughter-in-law Camilla Parker-Bowles. She’s been seen wearing it to numerous official events, from a state banquet back in 2013 through to an appearance in Sri Lanka in 2017.
The Prussian Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Letizia of Spain, Queen Sofia of Spain
If Megara from Hercules ever got to wear a tiara, it would surely be this one. This brilliant diamond tiara belongs to the Spanish royal family and is well loved by Queen Letizia, who wore it on her wedding day. With Grecian motifs and laurel leaf details, it’s the teardrop pendant in the middle that catches the viewer’s eye.
(AFP/Getty Images)
It was made originally for Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia for her wedding in 1913 to Prince Ernst August of Hanover, whose daughter Friederike eventually married into the Greek royal family. It finally passed into the hands of the Spanish royal family when Princess Sofia of Prussia married future Spanish King Juan Carlos in 1962, bringing the tiara with her.
The Dutch Sapphire Parure Tiara
(Hollandse Hoogte/REX/Shutterstock)
For King Wilhelm-Alexander’s inauguration in 2013 the Dutch royals’ stepped out in their finery. Queen Maxima wore the incredible Dutch Sapphire Parure Tiara, matching her outfit to its striking blues. According to the Natural Sapphire Company, the piece is made up of 33 blue sapphires and 655 diamonds set in platinum in a distinctly Gothic style.
(Getty Images)
The tiara in its complete form actually features a tall plumed point, which Queen Maxima chose to swap it out with a big round diamond to match the others on the tiara. Queen Maxima has worn it several times since – we don’t blame her.
The Hanoverian Floral Tiara
(Getty Images)
The Hanoverian Floral Tiara has become a go-to for women marrying into the Hanover royal family. According to Tatler, the tiara is believed to date back to the 1900s and as with the Spencer tiara depicts a series of intertwined florals. The tiara was seen as recently as 2018, when Alessandra de Osma married Prince Christian of Hanover in Peru.
Ekaterina Malysheva (Getty Images)
The tiara also made a public appearance the year before, when Ekaterina Malysheva maried Hereditary Prince Ernst August of Hanover. The always elegant Princess Caroline has also been seen in the tiara, wearing it back in 2004 for Crown Princess Mary of Denmark’s wedding to Crown Prince Frederik.
Queen Mary’s Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Elizabeth II
Besides having the coolest name, this is Queen Elizabeth’s most iconic tiara. Prior to Elizabeth’s grandmother Queen Mary’s royal wedding in 1893, women around the country from the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland society raised money to commission it. According to Garrard, Queen Mary called it one of her “most valued” gifts. It’s certainly valuable, with elaborate diamond peaks set with 13 brilliant diamonds.
(Getty Images)
It was then passed down to Queen Elizabeth II on her wedding day and has become the tiara she’s been pictured wearing the most – it’s even on British currency.
Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Madeleine and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
This stunning blue tiara is one of the many masterpieces in the Swedish royal collection. As with the emerald Greville tiara, it follows the Russian kokoshnik style with sky blue aquamarine gems set in diamonds.
(Getty Images)
The tiara has been worn more recenty by Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine, who both opted to wear it at the lavish Nobel Prize banquet – on different years. Both women opted to wear dresses in a matching shade.
Connaught Diamond Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Queen Silvia
Another of the Swedish royal family’s striking pieces, it’s very popular with women in the family. Also known as the Forget-Me-Knot tiara, it features five diamond loops with a delicate detachable pendant.
(Getty Images)
Princess Madeleine wore it when she attended the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria in 2010, while Victoria also re-wore it last year for the annual Nobel Prize banquet in Stockholm.
Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding Day Tiara: Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara
(Associated Newspapers/Daily Mail/REX/Shutterstock)
Worn by: Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mary
On her wedding day in 1947 Queen Elizabeth II’s hairdresser accidentally snapped the tiara in half just hours before her wedding to Prince Charles. Luckily, there was a court jeweller on standby and the tiara was taken via police escort to the diamond jewellers at Garrard who helped repair it in the nick of time.
The tiara was crafted in 1919 for Queen Mary – made from diamonds taken from a necklace. According to the Telegraph, the tiara is formed of “47 diamond bars separated by smaller diamond spikes” and set in gold and silver.
Stuart Diamond Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Maxima of the Netherlands
Queen Maxima’s 2018 visit to the UK was historical in more ways than one, as she brought her best jewels with her: namely, the Stuart Diamond Tiara. It was the first time in 36 years that a Dutch royal had officially visited the UK and all eyes were on the giant rock in the centre of Queen Maxima’s tiara.
(Getty Images)
Apparently the tiara was first purchased in 1690 when King William III bought it for his wife Queen Mary II. Apparently, it was unusual at the time for people to wear jewellery featuring gigantic diamonds as it was “common practice” that they were cut into two instead.
Wondering how big the diamond is? It’s apparently 39.75 carats.
The Poltimore Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Margaret
Princess Margaret was one of the most stylish royals of her time and on her wedding day to Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960, she pulled out all the stops. Not content with the collection already in the royal arsenal, HRH went out and bought a new tiara at auction in 1949 for £5,500: the Poltimore Tiara.
The tiara was originally made for Lady Poltimore and dates back to 1870.
(AFP/Getty Images)
Margaret wore the crown-like tiara for her wedding day, which featured a “graduated line of cushion-shaped and old-cut diamond clusters alternating with diamond-set scroll motifs” set in “silver and gold”.
Controversially, the tiara was sold at auction at Christie’s in 2006 where it was estimated to go for between £150,000-£200,000. In the end it blew far way past this estimate, selling for £926,400 to a private Asian buyer.
The Cut Steel Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
This tiara is one of Crown Princess Victoria’s favourites. It’s also one of the most unusual on the list. While you’ll find diamonds and emeralds for days on the other pieces, you won’t find a single gemstone on the Cut Steel tiara.
The clue’s in the name as the cut steel technique used on the tiara is what makes it sparkle. According to Laelius Antiques, jewellers employed “steel-faceted studs to create a beautiful, dazzling diamond effect”. According to antique dealers 1st Dibs, “cut steel became popular in the 18th century as a substitute for diamonds, the pieces carefully faceted to reflect the light of candles.”
(Getty Images)
Here, you can see that it’s been expertly crafted to create a nature motif with little acorns and leaves. It’s also inlaid in a gold setting and is said to have been originally made for Queen Hortense of Holland in the early Nineteenth Century, before it was brought over to Sweden.
