The AU is based on the idea that everyone who is infected dosen't completely die but instead their mind return to "the host". Everyone in the AU is dead and now in the "afterlife". Another idea of it is that all of them see each other as family now. It's kind of like Mother Miranda deciding she adopts another one but Marguerite already had a family. Found family speed run.

Anyways Ethan Winters is feared in the AU because he killed them. Except by Lucas, Clancy, and the Dimitrescu siblings. The reason why the Dimitrescu daughters aren't sacred is because they lost their memories of their death. Bela is busy with her upcoming marriage, Cassandra is just seeing everything as a game but Daniela is curious about the mysterious killer.

Another point is that they never told them what Ethan did. They only know he hurt the family because nobody wanted to let the children know that their killer is so close.

It also includes the idea that Eveline acts like an innocent child when she is free of the mold.
