Emmet’s the boss of the doubles train, so I managed to stir this all up!
Just imagine someone going to the Training Grounds and seeing that Warden Ingo brought his… brother? Son? You (yeah, you, because I’m not sure what character to use) don’t really know anymore and at this point you’re a little afraid to ask. After some wheedling and conversing the kid manages to get Ingo to agree to let him battle you! Exciting, but a kid’s a kid.
You take your places on the field and immediately Emmet goes into what sounds like a rehearsed line while pointing directly at you, “I am Emmet. I’m a pokemon trainer. I like Double Battles.”
And then he throws out two pokeballs with a single, surprisingly graceful, throw. Out comes Warden Ingo’s probopass (sharing pokemon with Emmet is something Ingo feels like happens regularly, for some reason, and Emmet was adamant that his team wouldn’t fit with his plan) and Emmet’s beloved weird sneasel that’s—
That’s higher level than probopass? Where did this child find the time? How did he manage it? Why is probopass listening to him? You have so many questions, but Emmet just smiles, commands sneasel to make it hail, and the battle is finished in just another turn.
You feel like your entire world was caught in a windstorm, and the Warden’s brother is saying another probably rehearsed line, “I am Emmet! I won against you. In a Double Battle, if you misread one thing, the rest will be totally different,” before running back to Ingo to get praised.
You still don’t really know what a “double battle” is. But you’re motivated to learn and try.
And yes, I did have to look at Bulbapedia to check which of Ingo’s pokemom is resistant to ice, and for Emmet’s lines. You script something once, and sometimes it never changes, so I definitely believe Emmet’s more or less been saying the same battle start/battle end lines for years. And it’d be cute for him to mimic the point and call poses Ingo does, and Emmet wants to be a conductor anyway so it’s just practice for him for when he gets older.
Thanks for visiting the Training Grounds today. We hope you'll enjoy getting your ass kicked by a 10 year old.
I LOVE the idea of little Emmet introducing doubles battles. I imagine the player character would come back over and over until they finally are able to beat Kid Emmet in battle.
It takes at least 5 attempts to finally win against him.
Maybe Emmet convinces other trainers to team up with him in multi battles too ( Ingo, Rei, or even our legendary boy Ress )
