For the WIP guessing game: blood

(Also, the reason I'm using italics and normal text in reverse is just because a lot of the books I've read go about flashbacks like that.)

Despite how hard it’d been to focus on anything except the specks of blood adorning Murdock’s tinted glasses, or the dark puddle that had been spreading out from beneath the body at his feet...

(Miguel’s cleaning capabilities weren’t just limited to blood-spatters, thank you very much.)

If it wasn’t for all that oozing blood, the rival’s slumped-over-yet-still-standing position would have resembled a nasty hangover.

On the other hand, pretty much everything below Caliban’s eyes was mottled with blood, and his red-drenched teeth were practically gnashing at the air as he laughed.

Blood seeped from it at a slightly slower rate than the gashes in his chest.

(Miguel cringed, as he would’ve been lying if he said that he hadn’t expected Caliban to lick the blood off.)

Blood was still oozing, but it wouldn’t leak through.

He held them carefully in order for there to be no direct skin-to-blood contact.

The average human body only contained about 1.5 gallons of blood.

Not if the pile of all those paper towels, now crumpled-up and bloodstained, had anything to say about it.

Note

New headcanons for Hellinois Thursday/IDWBF that I came up with!!!!

- after adopting Rosa, Markus becomes a stay-at-home dad, since he wasn’t able or interested in finding a new job. He absolutely LOVES spending the day with his little girl while Illy is out working.

- when Markus and Illinois announced they were adopting a baby, Yancy didn’t realize what they meant right away. He saw the onesie Markus gave him (that said “coolest big bro ever” 🥹) and thought it was for Miguel’s cat for a solid 20 seconds before realizing what it actually meant. (Yes this headcanon is based on that one tik tok where the guy thinks his sister got him a onesie for his cat 🤣)

- Yancy and Miguel both smoked at different points in their lives, but since cigarettes are not allowed at the penitentiary (obviously) Yancy can’t even stand the smell of cigarette smoke anymore. Miguel has been working on quitting for a while too for health reasons and bc he never really enjoyed it.

- Yancy also got extremely emotional when Markus and Illinois brought Rosa back from the adoption agency. He cried for at least half an hour and only stopped when Markus let him hold Rosa for the first time.

- Miguel’s cat Snickerdoodle is a ragdoll so he’s very good with Rosa, as ragdolls are known to be good cats for families with little kids

- as I kinda mentioned before, Yancy (and Miguel) become like big brothers to Rosa, and she absolutely adores both of them. When she figured out how to get out of her crib she would often toddle down the hall to climb into bed with one of them, which almost gave Markus and Illinois a heart attack the first few times when they entered the nursery and saw that their baby wasn’t there

- Markus got a tattoo of a rose on his wrist after adopting Rosa 🥹

- Illinois didn’t think Markus wanted a baby for a long time and was willing to give up his dream of being a father after they got married, until Markus brought up having children one day and actually seemed to want to do so

- Rosa has extremely curly hair just like Markus

Bonus half-headcanon: I kinda like the idea that instead of adopting Rosa, Markus discovered he was intersex by chance when Illinois accidentally got him pregnant. I’ve read stories about intersex people who were amab/didn’t know they had functioning ovaries and ended up pregnant, and I thought that might make an interesting storyline/headcanon in this scenario 🤔
