Nah I feel like some of y’all are getting this so wrong. I don’t think it’s correct to say that “earth 42 miles was supposed to be spider man” and “our miles is supposed to be prowler” it’s literally they could’ve been either or none at all. The fact that they “swapped places” shows that. We can’t all for sure say that if our miles wasn’t bitten he would’ve been prowler. It’s possible, but we have no way of knowing. But that’s also like the whole point right? Miles is fighting against the idea of a canon event and a predestined path, which aligns with the idea of the potential to be either prowler or spider man or neither. If the first movie was “anyone can wear the mask” then this movie is “what happens when people don’t believe you should” and saying that there’s a strict order everyone and everything has to follow. We got to allow some flexibility, unpredictability, and wiggle room here. It’s all about the butterfly effect people. Anything can happen.

It's eternally a little funny whenever I see someone say something along the lines of 'everyone in Strive is so happy now! Everyone's stories are getting resolved! It'll be hard to make a new game when everyone's retired and living peacefully and resolved their problems' and then there's a haunted semi-sentient mecha corpse in the corner constantly screaming from being trapped in limbo

the suits fandom, as a whole, tends to accept jessica but reject rachel and even donna, and at first i thought it was just royal family worshippers hating on meghan markle, but now i realize that (in addition to that) it’s also this: jessica does not ever act stereotypically “feminine”; even gina torres herself has joked that jessica is written like a cis straight white man. and this is not at ALL to take away from jessica’s character—because we fucking stan her—but it is to say that rachel and donna are hated on because they fit more traditionally the idea of “women”. for example, often reacting emotionally, crying, acting “”””irrational””””….. but the funniest part about it all is that all three main male characters (harvey, mike, louis) are often the most irrational, reactive, emotional, cocky, selfish, and toxic characters…. yet donna and rachel are the only ones hated on for acting that way. interesting.

i just realized out of all of the character's phones that we see in young royals only august has an iphone. everyone else has an android.

wille and felice both have what looks like the samsung galaxy z flip which makes sense in terms of their role in society. they are royalty and nobility, respectively, which are the two highest roles in society so them having phones that are on par with each other makes sense. also assuming young royals is set in 2020 (because it was filmed in 2020 and released in 2021) this would be a fairly new phone and reflects their wealth in that they were able to buy the newest model phone. also we don't really get a good look at erik's phone but it looks like a fairly nice android and i assume it's at least on par with wille's.

sara and simon both have nondescript androids. this fits in with them being from a more working class family. iphones often have easily breakable features and planned obsolescence and they would need phones that are both durable and will last several years so an android makes sense.

maddie has an fairly nice looking android (ngl i have no clue what type of phone she has but it has three lenses for the camera so it seems higher end)

then we get to august.

he is the only one shown to have an iphone and beyond that it could potentially be an older phone. we can see his phone clearly on several occasions and what stood out to me the most is that it has a home button. iphones have not had a home button since 2020. neither the iphone 11 or 12 have home buttons and they came out in 2019 and 2020 respectively. even if he had the iphone SE (last phone with a home button) it's interesting that he's still the only character we see without an android. i feel like it could be a hint to his social standing since wille and felice, who are both at the top of the social ladder as well as being associated with royalty/nobility, are shown using the newest androids. whereas august, someone of noble birth, has an iphone. almost hinting to the fact that his position in society both inside and outside of hillerska is not permanent. it could even foreshadow his money issues since his phone is half the price of wille's and he hasn't fixed his camera.

however i look at it august should have had a better phone. as the second cousin to the crown prince i wouldn't even be surprised if he and wille had the same phone. and yet we are forced to see and acknowledge that he is the only one with an iphone. idk if this makes sense but we were clearly and deliberately shown august's phone on several occasions (when he is recording his workout in the gym, when he records wille and simon, when he's watching the video back, when he plugs in his phone to upload the video, etc.) and he is the only one without an android which i highly doubt is a coincidence. (there's also a chance im reading to much into this but im not ready for that conversation)

theres something kind of annoying to me about how ever since the first sonic movie came out, when discussing potential additions to the cast the common default assumption people have for every single character sonic is friends with has always been that they would become sonics adopted sibling or cousin or something even if they dont have a family type relationship with him at all in the games. but almost nobody is even considering the idea of something like that happening with shadow and are saying that sonic and shadow are gonna fall in love or whatever instead and that this is gonna be the so/nadow movie etc etc

For sure! I think that's a problem she-ra and toh both share with Nimona—they struggle with setup but then go ham on the payoff, which leaves everything feeling somewhat unearned.

The end of the movie bugged me in particular—Ballister's 180 with calling Nimona a monster (something he KNOWS pushes her to the brink) after one conversation with his ex-boyfriend was...I think out of place?

Normally if you have a character make a wrong choice like that you, as the audience, would be questioning the whole movie if they had ever REALLY changed. Was Ballister's loyalty truly to Nimona or to the Institute/Goldenloin? But, by that point in the movie they had really sold me on Ballister's complete acceptance of Nimona and disregard of the institute, so....why would he turn on Nimona then? I'm surprised they didn't do this plot the other way, which would instead have only made it seem like Ballister betrayed Nimona, you know? Like they did in Tangled. That way you don't undo Ballister's movie long arc with one scene, but you can still have Nimona go berserk and make her way into the heart of the city.

There were also a couple of other things that felt kinda dropped by the end. Ballister being the first commoner to become a knight? The Queen's important role in this society? This kingdom's prejudice going SO deep that not even a child would give Nimona a chance after saving their life, yet blowing up the wall changed everyone's minds in the end?

There were a lot of good pieces, but they weren't quite put together in the right ways.

like. okay. i have no real horse in the race of “which brother is the secret bad abuser” because the show does not actually care about that or think that either of them is actually treating each other that badly (except for when sam get manipulated, which is always his own fault and he should suffer for it /s)

but what i will say is that the way dean is written sometimes manages to make me more uncomfortable than any of the villains on this show. dean scares me. completely unintentionally, they did write a guy who only gets Worse over time, and it’s compelling, and it’s upsetting for me to watch.

#I don’t really mean this as a criticism because To Me it is just like. a part of the show. #it’s a feature. perhaps a Bethesda’s bug of a feature but. it’s a feature. #dean’s change in character feels natural. watching him get worse feels like the logical conclusion of where he’s going. #(the logical conclusion could also have been ‘dean makes an effort to not be so controlling’ but they didn’t do that. they leaned into it.) #so it isn’t much like. say. Lucifer. Lucifer is a character who just flips. motivations and character completely changed. #so disregarding his later appearances just? makes sense? to me anyway. that’s Not My Wife #but Dean’s character degradation is completely different in that it builds on what’s already there. #and whenever I write him I feel the need to. idk. grapple with that. with that potential to become Worse. #he is controlling! he doesn’t ever really trust sam that much post-s5! he does treat Cas his best friend like he doesn’t matter unless #he’s acting more human! these are just facts about him that show up long before the later seasons and idk!
