I saw discourse recently about Baldur's Gate 3 winning the game awards over Marvel's Spiderman 2--some of it almost certainly engagement bait (by the way, did you know that only other blue checks count towards the ad revenue for tweets?), one example showcasing a literal cutscene from Spiderman as a demonstration of how it's been robbed of its deserved accolades--but some people agreeing with it, because when you pitch a circus tent it's only right to expect clowns.

Naoki Yoshida (producer of Final Fantasy 14 and 16) has more or less said "western gamers treat the term 'JRPG' like it's some kind of slur" and at this point I think that level of brain poisoning has taken hold even in views towards western RPGs now: treating turn-based gameplay as a problem that needs to be solved for health of the genre, rather than just...a way games can be made. As if under the impression that if these games just "evolve past" turn-based systems they'll "reach a wider audience."

But, like, they're clearly successful enough and reaching enough players to win fucking game of the year, right?

Anyway, a video game is a piece of software whose main goal is to get you to press square. The more it rewards you for pressing square, the better the video game is.

Honestly really interesting the way late 2000s/early 2010s AAA games got hooked on doing big fashy art deco world buidling. The industry was abuzz with "What if during the world wars america was really fascist" and "isn't 50s propaganda weird". Surprisingly, no follow-up thoughts were generated.

Watched the story for the new Suicide Squad game on Youtube and I gotta honest it was kinda complete dogshit. Like genuinely left a sour taste in my mouth when I was done.

#i know it literally says kill the justice league in the title but let's be real no one actually expected them to all die #but no they really made a game where the entire plot is making the player kill beloved heroes in stupidly underwhelming and undignified ways #and there's basically nothing to it beyond that #and they thought dc fans would...like that? #like i'd say i at least respect that they had the balls to actually commit to the premise and do it #but well i really don't. it was just bad and disrespectful to the characters and not remotely enjoyable to watch #and they made it part of the ARKHAMVERSE? #they brought back arkham batman after nearly a decade just to have him be unceremoniously shot in the head on a fucking park bench? #one of the most beloved versions of the character who we followed for four games and they decided to end his story like THAT? #and again. they thought people would LIKE THAT? #and THIS was kevin conroy's final time voicing the character? THIS is his big send-off? #yeah no i've never played the last of us but i think i get why the second one pissed people off so much now #in conclusion if you wanna play as dc villains and fight an evil justice league you'd be better off playing lego dc super villains instead #shut up tristan

So I finally beat Arkham City, and I will try to collect the rest of the Riddler trophies. But I feel so annoyed right now since I have Arkham Knight but I can't play it due to it not working on my computer. I have to buy Arkham Trilogy on the Switch but idk when I can buy it since I don't have the money right now...
