Ok so, with the Tekken 8 Closed Network Test now concluded, I'd like to share a few thoughts.
Tumblr media
The game looks great, I love the new redesigns, I love the new animations and the fact that they got the entire cast to rerecord their battle grunts and win / pre battle quotes, it was especially weird to have certain characters use voice lines from different actors, some of whom weren't even speaking the same language 馃ぃ
The redesigns are almost exclusively great so far, but I do hope we get alternate costumes. Yeah customization is there but I don't really care to have Nina in jeans and cowboy boots or Jin in platinum blond pigtails like... A lot of fighting games just have a palette swap as the second costume and call it a day, but from the very beginning all the way up to Tekken 6, Tekken had an alternate outfit for every single character. Not only that, but it was usually a more "casual" outfit too like, Kazuya's Tekken 1 1P was his karate gi pants but his 2P was a tank top and jeans. Asuka's Tekken 5 1P was her Aikido uniform and her 2P was her trademark shorts and tank top and so on. Tekken 7 originally went for the 2P palette swap, but at some point they added extra costumes, including classic looks, via an update, and I hope they are there from the start this time.
I played almost exclusively as Nina because she's been my main since 2005, with a little Jun, a little Xiaoyu and a little Jin thrown in. I also tried Lili's, Hwoarang's and Asuka's combo trials (nice that they FINALLY added combo trials, I don't know what took them so long lol) I gotta say it's extremely satisfying to see Harada CONSTANTLY shading Street Fighter on Twitter by saying that the base roster will feature a lot more fighters than our competitors an also Mortal Kombat by saying that they are focusing on legacy fighters before they even start considering guests. Like. That's a ball move and a huge reassurance for the fans. I also know it's in good faith and no harm is meant towards Capcom or Netherrealm but he's right and he should say it!
If there's one thing I hope they copy off of Capcom is Word Tour mode. Yeah NetherRealm Studios' cinematic story mode is fine... I guess... But World Tour mode is the best single player mode ever featured in a fighting game and Namco even have their own blueprint in the form of Tekken Force. We're probably still getting a cinematic-style story but there's still hope for Tekken 9, or maybe even a smaller-scale Tekken Force return, in the style of Tekken 4 or sth.
Arcade Mode needs a proper reintroduction as well, in Tekken 6 you only got 4 battles and you were done and in Tekken 7 you straight up got nothing at all out of Arcade mode and character endings were instead for the base game characters who weren't prominently featured in the cinematic story and you got them after a single battle... Very underwhelming.
Also hoping other "missing" modes like Team Battle return and maybe Tekken Bowl will be included from the get go this time? I've also had this request forever but I'd love to see 1P Vs. Com or Com Vs. Com fights be included in offline versus. Literally every other fighting game has it except Tekken and Virtua Fighter and I can't tell why. It shouldn't be hard to implement and honestly sometimes it's just fun to pick characters, costumes and stage and just fight it out with the computer, as a break from online grinding and whatnot.
Now, as for the battle system itself... It's lots of fun! There's tons of stuff going on at all times but it feels great to experience and it's not really overwhelming or anything. It's cute that they have included an "easy mode" for new players to ease themselves in the fun. I'm not a master player by any means but I've had almost two decades of experience in Tekken and legacy skill does play a big role in the Tekken meta so it's an interesting way to even out the playing field. Interestingly, they also seem to have simplified some of the more complicated commands like, I can pull off all of Nina's combo throws now with a total of like, four button presses at most? Crazy! The heat system feels a bit weird at first but it's a huge asset once you get into it which doesn't take all that long anyway.
Overall I am very satisfied with what I got to play and I feel like Tekken 8 is gonna be another huge chapter in Tekken's history as well as the FGC's as a whole and I honestly cannot wait! Hopefully I will have moved out of Greece by the time it's out because my internet connection was killing me 馃槶馃ぃ
I also better see miss Anna and Christie in the game or else I'm rioting.

i have been creating a lot of stuff and im nearly done with my online science course and should be done by the end of this week!
the other week was eid and ur girlie made sweets, dressed up, visited a friend, and made Mario Lego B) I also got stickers for my laptop but that's unrelated lol
also we made bakhlawa and makrout they are literally my favorites lol, even the people at my friends party seemed to really like them too lol
apparently I look really good in olive green so that's like also a major win for me
the stickers are like vintage looking florals ones lol
btw I've been working so much on my four swords DND au, I'm not sure what to call It tho? I was thinking like "Four Keys" because the swords are literally keys to a secret realm or whatever
btw have u had any good recipes recently? Im fasting just because I can and rn I'm just thinking about food lol
i made a fajita tonight using colored peppers too lol
if u have any good recipes please tell me I love hoarding them
btw, I have one character left with enough space for an additional trauma/mental issue on my roster for the au so honestly just send me a few different ideas for them and I'll probably choose one lol
btw the dudes got the thickest Russian accent, is very brutally honest, soft and gruff, non nonsense and needs to adopt every small thing in sight or else he will die because this is how he's coping.
he was stuck in like an iceberg for like 200 years (there's a wholes Tory behind that) and then we he emerged (thats also a story) everyone he knew is kinda super dead because of the passage of time
*someone saying something stupid*
"Your voice, very ugly, please, do the shut up :] "
thats him in a nutshell^
also remember to do wrist and finger stretches for writers and artists
also I acquired a glass orb with glass art inside <3 o r b
also what's legend's irrational fear?
also I love legend being like, an actual good influence on wind in his own weird way
i want them to bond more, maybe do a whole stealing heist from some knights-
im not asking u t write it but I just wanted to share lol
i hope you've been doing well, u seem to be lol
also do u like wearing jewelry? and if so how often lol
Wow, that's a wall! (pos)
I'm glad you got to enjoy some nice food, time with friends, and dressing up! Also, it sounds like you're having a ton of fun creating recently! I am as well, but it's slow going as I'm working on a multi-chap that's very demanding about where and what is supposed to happen (I did this to myself but the results are fantastic!)
"Four Keys" sounds like it has great potential as a title! I like it! I also love the Russian accent. the character is giving slight Captain America vibes, but only for backstory, and I love the concept so much!
As for a irrational fear..... ma am I bad at those I rationalize anything so... maybe large empty spaces? Usually those are indicative of a boss fight in his mind, so just having one that isn't hiding some threat throws him way off. He's also insanely wary of any room with a tiled floor. Because >:)
I also love him and Wind! The fact that they're both on the younger side here but also both accustomed to being the person others look to gives great opportunities for them to bond and interact. Legend has a lot of experience to share but he's also not up on a pedestal like Time or Warriors is, so there's more opportunity for direct communication and less a need to impress. (I actually just finished writing something with them, as it happens!)
I'm honestly not the best baker in the world, or cook in general (I'm still building up my recipe book after leaving my parent's house) but I can share my mum's bread recipe! It's very good, for every day, or to make into rolls for the holidays and with nice meals!
Recipe makes 4 large loaves btw
Dissolve 2 packages of dried yeast into 4 cups of warm water.
In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup soft butter with 1/2 cup of honey (you can also add 1/4 cup of molasses for super dense rolls/loaves).
Once the honey-butter is combined, add the yeast water to the bowl
Scoop in 6 cups of whole wheat flour + 4 cups white flour.
Mix, knead, and set into greased bread-pans, or roll into balls on a cookie sheet.
Bake loaves for 35-40 min at 375 F, or rolls for 10-15 min at the same.
After you remove it from the oven, brush generously with butter before they cool, for extra flavor and to preserve moistness.
Hope this one makes you happy! It's great to use in sandwiches, serve with soup, or eat with jam, or alone!

So uh, my rereading journey sorta kinda got halted a little, but I got back into the swing of things and WEW, another amazing book.
Special shoutout to the folks who replied to my inquiry about the similarities of the novels with the show. Now that I've re-read it, I do see the influences of Eagle Strike and Skeleton Key, but honestly, also of Stormbreaker. I actually think there was more of Stormbreaker on season 2 than in the first.
More of my thoughts, ramblings and whatnot below. Fair warning for those who haven't read the novel because I will take them into account (as well as my murky recollection of the books that will follow and how they all tie in).
My messy, lengthy ass thoughts in no particular order:
(1) I kinda prefer how the book characterized Cray because of the pun/satire that comes with his name, his motives. The comical, outlandishness of it all that comes with a good fun spy fiction. That said, I love how Guy Burt adapted not just Eagle Strike, but Skeleton Key and Stormbreaker's villain origins into a sensible live action portrayal. Instead of being a pop star, Damian became a tech mogul who lost a brother to drugs, which some posts I've read, is a mirroring of General Sarov losing his son. I agree.. And personally, I see Sayle's background focusing on tech and being "friends" with the prime minister is shown thru TV Cray's connections with the US president.
(2) I also prefer how the books characterize Mrs. Jones. She's colder (?) in the novels compared to the show version, but they both care for Alex. And I like that she reveals that side of hers to him gradually.
(3) There's not much notable difference between Blunt on either media lol, he's truly stone cold and honestly, it's part of his appeal. It's also in his name: he's blunt and to the point.
(4) Yassen...ah, my dearest Yassen, I just got excited to pick up Russian Roulette again eventually during my reread of the series haha. He's a truly intriguing character and one thing I love that the show did not kill him off. I always thought that was a waste of his character, but at the same time, one of the things I love about Alex Rider is the deaths. They really ground the series and say, "Hey, this whole spy shit is dangerous as frick".
(5) Smithers. There are barely any things I have issue with the show adaptation, but tbh, this is one of them. Smithers was supposed to be the friendly representation of MI6. I feel like they end up putting that onto Mrs. Jones' characterization instead. I also miss the fun of the gadgets that Alex would receive. The show, for either seasons, didn't show much of that, but I'm really hoping for a new season *fingers crossed there WILL be a new season pls pls* they can look into that.
(6) Sabina. I remember being annoyed with book Sabina, and tbh, I kinda still am lol. The TV show version was so much better IMO. Even the changes into her family's background was an intriguing change, but it works.
(7) John Rider. Oh boy, I won't lie, I was STILL surprised by Yassen's reveal to Alex about his father. Like, I know they worked together, but that prologue with Hunter and Cossack was John and Yassen really threw me off haha. Goes to show how poor my recall is, but I'm so glad I get to re-experience the novels with basically the same intrigue and excitement. xD And this is more of a personal question to myself, no need to answer but feel free to do so if you want, but wasn't John actually an MI6 undercover that infiltrated Scorpia?????? Or is that also something my terrible recall got wrong lol hahaha only time will tell.
(8) Tom. I know that Tom was from the books, but I actually haven't read any of the new stuff yet (Never Say Die & Nightshade). But I just think he's a brilliant addition to the main roster and brings a true balance to Alex. He, along with Jack, is the grounding force, whenever MI6 decides to swoop him away to Big Danger TM.
(9) Jack. I love both portrayals hehe. I think they're also very similar in helping Alex with missions while also keeping a distance and like I said, grounding Alex, so he has that safe space to return to after all the spy BS. I'm reeeaaallly not looking forward to Scorpia Rising (IYKYK)
(10) Kyra. Another excellent addition to the main roster. She doesn't take from the essence of the novels, in fact, adds more to it. She brings techy smarts into the table and, God willing, there be a new season, we see more of her as Alex takes on Scorpia.
(11) okay yeah I realize I haven't keyed down on Alex himself, but I think that deserves an entire post in of itself lmao. I'm just gonna say, after all these years, he hands down remains my favorite fictional character ever and I just wanna hug him and protect him from MI6. Yes, MI6.
