Edenian supremacism probably comes with the Sindel retcon. They were originally allies of Earthrealm and as much victims of Shao Kahn as anyone else - Kitana and Jade were actually freedom fighters for Edenia. Why they're now apparently all soulless pieces of shit (and why the narrative turns against Kitana beginning with Aftermath, seriously listen to how Spawn just dunks on her), I think, has to do with a change in society as a whole.

As more and more previously unheard people speak up and tell their stories, more and more narratives are getting flipped, and rightly so - those we've been told to admire all our lives are turning out to be bigots at best and greedy, power-hungry butchers or heartless religious zealots at worst. Conversely, the people society whose voices society wishes it could silence - BIPOC, LGBTIA+, workers, those with disabilities (ND included), really anyone who's suffered at the hands of the powerful and privileged - are finally starting to be vindicated, to have their complaints validated, and their stories heard.

In other words, our heroes are turning out to be way worse people than our villains ever were, and fiction is starting to reflect this; The Boys would be a textbook example, nobody with superpowers in that franchise is anywhere near heroic, and honestly I'm a little disturbed that anyone would want to play Homelander in MK. The Edenians were presented as the most virtuous in the original universe, so they were the obvious choice to be the rotten bastards in MK11 (not a choice I exactly agree with, or even the Sindel retcon at all, but if I got to make every choice cheese curds would grow on trees, so)

Having made that observation, I still consider having villains more sympathetic than your heroes to be an immense failure on the part of the author. Let's be real, "princess" is part of Kitana's identity, and that implies she's up to her eyeballs in some sort of privilege. The thing is, free will exists, and privilege does not (or should not) hard-lock you into being an asshole. Even Kitana could have chosen integrity and real compassion, to do what's best for the people even when it came at expense to herself, but nope, she chose to play footsie with Kotal's buddies and attack people for not meeting her sky-high standards.

This is not the Kitana Outworld deserves, and this is not the Kitana the MK community deserves.

Not gonna lie, I always saw Sindel as an evil character even with the whole mind control thing. If their own queen was willing to kill her own husband, an Edenian, to have a stronger one (Outworld-ian) then they shouldn't be flabbering about supremacy.

I've been meaning to vent out about Sonya but didn't know when.

"I'm a little disturbed that anyone would want to play Homelander in MK" I thought this was a joke when I first heard it, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually meant it.

When it comes to villainising the heroes I think it's more of a Severus Snape situation, where we the viewers find out there's more to the villains and the heroes. I think NRS figured we were tired of goody two shoes and wanted to see those goody two shoes be more humanised, if humanised means less decent. And then proceeded to butcher some beloved characters, I guess. Harry's been told his parents were good people only to find out they did terrible things. When shown that Mileena just wanted a family we can hold some kind of sympathy for her, even though it doesn't excuse the fact that she's a blood thirsty killer.

One thing to be noted is that there's a lack of consistency when it comes to the games, and not just designs, so when you're talking about "those we've been told to admire all our lives are turning out to be bigots at best and greedy, power-hungry butchers or heartless religious zealots at worst." I think it's the writers changing their minds to fit the mindset of current audiences, acknowledging that it's not just kids playing the games nowadays and it's their way of making things more realistic.

As a Johnny Cage stan, I can very much tell you that there's a lot of things wrong with him, but he's an angel in comparison to the other heroes. (even if he was sexist and mouthy in the past, he is the most relatable) He is a good example when making a flawed character in my opinion, or maybe I'm being too soft on the guy.

I don't think Scorpion was held accountable for screwing everyone over, either. Or killing Bi Han. Poor Bi Han.

What do you think the los crew eats like?

Oh, I'm very happy to talk about this, food is always a good topic and I actually have a lot of thoughts about it. We'll start withhh hmmm Zoe! So,

Zoe - she's basically very careful with how much she eats, not necessarily what though. She doesn't have any calorie limit set, she just tries not to eat too much and it actually works for her. She says she prefers salads to meat, but it's not exactly true. It's not that she dislikes salads or fruits or vegetables, no, but she likes meat way more than she claims. When she gets cravings they're more times about meat than sweets. She doesn't eat a lot of sweets and refuses to eat chocolate, half because of this diet of hers, half because she's genuinely just not that into them. One more thing: she loves trying different cusines, she'd much rather go to a specific country-themed restaurant than a fast food place for example.

Minka - like Zoe she likes trying out different cusines, but she has a few favourites, especially mexican, so she's a bit more picky in that way. However, picky in general she is not, willing to try almost everything at least once. Her favourite taste is definitely sweet, so: cookies, cakes, chocolate, etc. Bonus points if it has banana in it. She really likes baking, cakes yes, but her guilty pleasure is baking bread, especially banana bread. She usually improvises at least a bit when baking, adding more or less than the recipe requires, or some extra ingridients. Really likes fast food also and basically anything to drink that is colorful.

Pepper - basically anything that is deemed unhealthy is her favourite lol, fast food, pizza, ice cream, etc - stuff that you expect to be there when going out to a busy city area. Mostly into salty foods but she also likes sour and can eat that without grimacing most of the time. Genuinely doesn't enjoy most vegetables, a bit better with fruits. She actually appears quite picky in the food department when compared to the rest of them. Oh, but no matter what they're eating she's always willing to "borrow" food from others. Food always tastes better when it's somebody else's :].

Vinnie - I will squeeze him here because him and Pepper are honestly quite similar when it comes to what they like eating. If he could eat fast food for the rest of his life he would, and if, you know, he had enough money for that because that shit be expensive. It's honestly probably the only reason why he (and Pepper) don't have any nourishment deficits etc. They're both gonna get fat once their metabolisms inevitably slow down, lol. When it comes to fruits and vegetables he has a few things he can eat, more fruits, but not a big fan. He tries eating spicy stuff at least once in a while to increase his tolerance for those, because when he's at Sunil's he usually has spicy stuff and he really wants to eat everything Sunil gives him. It works decently actually. He also can eat edible insects (duh), it's not his favourite food or anything, but he can, especially to surprise someone. He can eat them all if they're prepared correctly, the only insects he refuses to eat are cockroaches. His favourite are silkworms and crickets. Just like Zoe he loves meat, like a lot, could not become a vegetarian if he tried.

Sunil - he knows what he likes and is rather reluctant to try new dishes. His taste is basically a mix of indian and american cuisine. He genuinely loves veggies, and yes, he prefers them to meat or anything else, really. While Zoe might lie about how she likes salads oh so much, he genuinely does love them and all those similar things. Basically the kind of person who will go out to McDonald's and order a salad, hehe. Big, big ice cream enjoyer, eats them no matter the season, the weather, etc. Of course, also a big spicy food enjoyer and spices, condiments and herbs in general. Also, really likes Minka's banana bread specifically. And mango, stands to reason.

Russell - I honestly always thought of him as not having any strong opinions on most foods or tastes. He's chubby, yes, but he actually doesn't eat all that much, Vinnie genuinely eats more than he does and Vinnie's a stick. So he's fine with almost anything, least picky among (us) all of them, the one limit he has is just not too eat too much unhealthy stuff at a time. He drinks more than he eats; coffee, tea, juice and water. However, sometimes he gets craving for one specific thing and then he really needs to eat it. It's very random, sometimes it's apples, other times it can be pepperoni pizza. He can also eat few kinds of edible insects, less kinds than Vinnie but there are a few. Well, he can, but he really never does, because if there's an option to eat something else why would he eat literal insects?

Penny - her favourite taste is definitely sweet, it's very dominant in her, no other taste comes even close to how much she likes sweet stuff. So a big sweet tooth. She refuses very few things, but she has her favourites, knows what she wants and would rather not eat anything she's not already familiar with. She's also a big fan of sugary drinks, but tries to drink the suger-free options, they taste the same to her, so why not? She knows what she wants and does like making her meals herself if she has time: cooking, baking, or anything else, because she knows how to do it to hit her taste the right way. If it's bought ready it's just not the same.

Aha geddit. Venting. (This one is really really spoiled)

Ok this is not serious but I'm feeling. Paralysed. Because everyone in my life is trying to be so lovely but they're making me feel not listened to at all.

I've always set a bit of my paycheck aside to travel/ spend time with my partner, plus some just for fun money. I often used it for buying commissions, and I was saving for possibly quite an expensive one.

But with world events, I changed my tack. Still putting aside the money to see my partner - which is the main thing I really want to do - but donating the fun money. And that's fine, I guess I missed the fun money I'd been saving for a bigger present for myself, but it's not that bad. I'm literally going on holiday for a week after my birthday. Like, my life is jammy.

That birthday is rolling around and I literally want nothing. If I really stretch, I need a new pair of cheap sunglasses, but it could honestly wait. I have some long-term-goal savings, but they are beyond birthday and I want to buy them for myself so that my family don't have control over them. Right now, I actively want less stuff. So I asked for charity donations, so I can really put some money to stuff I care about - my family are all richer than I am by a long shot, they spend double what I do on their birthdays for mine.

But everyone is taking issue with this. I thought it would just be my partner, but my sisters and my parents all trying to buy me some kind of tat:

Can I get you a candle? No! I don't burn them because I'm forgetful! And don't get me soap and shower stuff, I'm allergic to all but the bar ones, and have no dry place to stock them up.

Can I get you new clothes? I just chucked out 1.5 wardrobes of handmedowns. The fact that I still have plenty of clothes tells you all you need to know about my clothes hoarding!

Can I pay for a meal for you? Fam I am in a bad way with eating as well you know. I can't normally eat in public, especially when there's pressure and lots of people around. You're giving me an anxiety attack for my birthday.

So now I'm thinking I'm just gonna ask for money for the holiday I've already bought myself and donate it myself, then lie and say I spent it on a day out. Because nobody is listening. They're very sweet, really, but I don't even like gifts on my birthday, it's too much. I actively want them to make charitable donations. I don't know why this is so hard. I don't need a lecture from everyone about allowing myself things - if I wanted things I would get things! I'm so damn privileged for my age! I am sick of being lectured and pressured into wanting crap, when it's all crap!

I already gave up the shit I really wanted - which is always nice sonic art and commissions, now - and there's no way any of them would buy those for me anyway. So just get me nothing, if you think charity is a waste, but don't tell me I should want things I literally don't need! I have baskets full of wool. Buckets of colour pencils and crayons and crafts and nice paper. I have shelves of books and hours of games that I don't play. I cannot stress enough how spoiled I am. I don't want another day of treating myself. My whole life is a treat! Meanwhile, 2000 miles away people are dying of starvation if missiles don't get them quicker. Why am I being treated like the one with a problem for wanting less of that happening for my birthday?

Anyway I brought up my paycheck when I started this post because when I mentioned that while trying to convince my boyfriend he got genuinely cross with me. He says it's ridiculous self-sacrifice and I'm trying to be a martyr and I just- what? Sorry, the martyrs of this world; 25yos who can't buy a digital picture of Omega in a tutu with a bubble gun. God, I have the hardest life! I stopped buying coffees that make me shit myself at work. I'm the real victim here!

It's the same argument as when I said I don't wanna take planes for the environmental impact. He - and everyone - acts like I'm cutting out a huge part of my life, my right to holidays? Come the fuck on. We sound disgusting.

I do get that individual contributions to all these things pale in comparison to the big corporations' impact. I know that lobbying and boycotting could be more effective tools for change than my personal contributions. But I'm not going to marches because I don't handle the crowds, and I'm not a debater so I don't think I'm changing anybody's mind. I just wish I could explain that doing these things is how I feel like myself, like my morals matter, and like I can feel proud that I stand up for what I believe in. And those are way more important to me being happy than a new pair of cool boots and sunglasses.
