Firstly, hi, your archive is fantastic, thanks for doing god's work, etc. Secondly, I understand and wholly respect your decision not to post sh@ladin, but as someone whose first big fandom experience was surviving the Harry Potter Ship Wars, I just want to do the Veteran Fen thing and kind of... warn you, and the other young Voltron fans, against the dangers of morality gatekeeping when it comes to shipping. 1/?
Anon: There was a thing that happened in the early aughts, which I don’t know how many of you were around for, not sure of your ages, colloquially called the LiveJournal Fic Purges, from which AO3 was actually born. TLDR, fans were reporting content from fics and ships they didn’t agree with as objectionable/obscene to LJ and getting entire accounts banned. And this wasn’t just creepy stuff like Keith/Keith’s Dad or ships with serious age differences. A lot of fic was purged just for being LGBT. (2/?)
Anon: Remember, after all, in the aughts being gay was still commonly seen as “depraved/perverted.” I’m not saying not posting sh@ladin or Keith/Keith’s Dad is wrong, especially since this is your archive and therefore you should get to decide what’s on it. I also admire your intent to protect people. But the VLD fandom in general has shown a scary precedent towards ship policing, and as someone who’s been around the fandom track a few times, I just want to let you & others know about the past. (¾)
Anon: Truth is, shippers gonna ship. Whether it’s Snarry or Sh@ith, people will write and read stuff you find fucked up. Many of those people recognize and agree that the content portrayed would be horrifying in real life, too, but. I mean, you’ve posted bloodplay/self-harm stuff on here. But just because I, who had an S.O. try and commit suicide on me via wrist slitting, find that stuff triggering or think it romanticises self-harm doesn’t mean I think it should be stopped or taken down. (4/5 oops)
Anon: I’m not saying you admins think that– again, wouldn’t matter anyway, you get to post what you want on your archive. But I see people on here and in the VLD fandom who do. Just. Learn from past fan-generation’s mistakes, guys. Tag your stuff. Respect the tags other people provide. Don’t like, don’t read. Or one day you could wake up and all of your bookmarks, your favorite fanartist, and the WIP you’d been writing could all be gone. Ghost of Fandom Past out.
hi anon, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. we try to make this blog a safe space for klance shippers by keeping it drama free. part of this includes keeping ships which people may find inappropriate out of our recommendations. we’ve never shown hostility towards anyone who has different opinions on these ships and just generally don’t want to have to see them. I can assure you no one involved with this blog is reporting accounts that ship sh@ladin. we tag all background ships that appear in the fics we post but reserve the right not to include sh@ladin fics at all because they personally make us uncomfortable. as for the bloodplay and self harm you mentioned- everything is properly tagged with trigger warnings as to make sure no one is upset by what we post.

basically everything that Rotem said but I just wanted to explain that we are anti-sh@ladin because thats what makes us (the admins) uncomfortable. although knifeplay and self-harm do make a lot of people uncomfortable i personally am fine with it, which is why we include it on the blog. everything which has the potential to be triggering is tagged of course but what im trying to say is that what we decide to keep or take off this blog is what we personally feel ok with. it is our blog after all - Karri
ps: a lot of time as passed since snarry was a big deal lmao, people who wrote fanfiction were full on being sued at that time. things change.
