ronan and adam should’ve had a real conversation in greywaren they should’ve both been awake and should’ve argued the way they did back in the days because emotions are running High so naturally there is a reverting back to their younger selves and they should've started to calm down a little after said arguing and have an actual good thorough conversation afterwards in which ronan actualy apologizes to adam because let’s be real there was one needed and they make it clear what they want for the future and how they want it to pan out and how things are gonna work out and about what home means to each of them and about how each of them were keeping secrets from each other and how to avoid hurting each other in the future by not talking to each other and to stop keeping those heavy secrets to themselves with the thought that it’s only going to bother the other and “they were wanted they were wanted they were wanted” is actually brought across by them communicating this to each other in Real Actual Words and after this very good very lengthy very needed conversation they can hug as their actual real life corporeal bodies with their ribs still fitting together just as they had before and with adam’s hand still pressed against the back of ronan’s skull the way it always did
Tumblr media
#MAGGIE U ARE NOTHING#sorry that's not true. but she should've made them have an actual Conversation instead of the copout that was that greywaren chapter#no matter how dear it is to my heart and how many emotions it brings up and how romantic it is. she could've done the conversation and then#the soul merging like do both y'know. love wins.#also she should've never made adam a c*p. and she should've never made declan forgive niall Completely and Entirely and made declan#view him as Flawless all of a sudden and she should've never made the epilogue Like That and should've never have it so that the new fenian#and mór live at the barns and should have made it so that hennessy was the one saving the world because ronan would've chosen to save adam#(BECAUSE. the choice was death or hurting adam. which wasn't much of a choice at all!) wherein - again - ronan saves adam because duh and#hennessy goes on to save the world instead. also should've never done the whole thing with nathan that was FOUL of her why is it BOMBS#of all fucking things and also should've given carmen and hennessy more development and also should've never done the moderators plot#(though in all fairness That in particular was the publishing company i'll give her that) and also should've given matthew more.#more of what you ask. well just very simply More. like what we were given was so little and so like. lackluster? also should've given decla#and matthew a conversation after he was gone for so long should've seen an actual reunion with the two of them and ronan as well should've#seen that declan & ronan actual (awake) reunion we never got to see either should've gotten an adam and matthew reunion as well because the#are brothers too!! also should've never done that whole thing with declan completely taking away matthew's autonomy and letting him sleep#for days just because he didn't want to deal with him bc like that was so fucked up actually and also should've never done carmen dirty the#way she was done dirt and also --------#trc#dreamer trilogy#sorryyyy the more i sit on greywaren the more dissatisfied i become.....why not let them have an actual conversation it would've been much#more meaningful and would've made much more sense because ronan and adam have always had their communication problems and r both#stubborn assholes who are mostly private and who should've had that moment because it would be a nice tie-in and conclusion and just#would've been so much more meaningful to see them grow like that and actually communicate for real.#i actually LOVED some of gw (numquam solus....LIKE.) but overall it just felt so off idk. who was it that said every gw chapter individually#was good but all together it just wasn't All That because yeah.#also i am. feverish so idk if any of this even makes sense at all 🤨 double also if you read this u should picture me pacing around my room#talking 2 myself because that is me rn...in spirit because i can't get out of bed 👍

something i’ve been thinking about a lot lately is the way that language in the dreamer trilogy & the raven cycle is a barrier to forming connection/community.
in the raven cycle we see a distinct lack of specific terms used between ronan and kavinsky. the word “dreamer” is not even used directly — instead the two of them talk conceptually about the dreaming process, about their respective “special places” (ronan’s being cabeswater), and how the dreaming “juice” runs out (but again, the terms “ley line” or “energy” are not used). there is a clear recognition of “sameness” or shared experiences between the boys, with kavinsky specifically saying he “knows what ronan is” (tho whether he’s referring to dreaming or ronan’s sexuality is up for debate i suppose).
this is really the first time ronan is connecting with a dreamer outside of his family. and his family, of course, has their own terms and language for dreaming. there is a barrier in the discussions ronan and kavinsky are having because of a lack of shared language. so much of what they experience as dreamers is isolated in the individual, so they are forced to talk around concepts because they don’t have universal terminology to fall back on.
i’ve talked extensively about how dreaming is a representation of chronic illness in the dreamer trilogy so i won’t go too far down that rabbit hole. But. something that is talked about within the disability/chronic illness community (and beyond) is the way that individuals can struggle to connect with people that have the same condition/similar experiences as them because of a lack of shared terminology to discuss abstract or hyper-specific concepts/feelings.
we see this in the raven cycle with kavinsky and ronan, and then we start to see it even more in the dreamer trilogy as ronan continues to find belonging and community with other dreamers. ronan and hennessy’s friendship requires them to bridge the language gap. though they both live as dreamers, because of their different experiences throughout their lives, they use different terminology to make meaning of their situation.
in knowing to one another, ronan and hennessy are exposing each other to new, shareable language. ronan shares his term for “nightwash,” and hennessy shares her term for “the lace.” both of them adapt to using this new language for a shared conceptual experience and in doing so are able to connect more fully with one another. in the raven king, i believe it is quite possible that ronan and adam had encountered the lace — a dark entity that whispered their worst fears to them — but did not have the term yet to describe it. obviously, terminology does not outweigh experience, but it is an important element of forming community through shared experience.
there’s also the way that the moderators use the term “zed” instead of “dreamer” — at first it is unclear what zeds even are because as the reader we have only ever had the language provided by ronan. in this experience of coming to realize that “zeds” are equivalent to “dreamers,” we as the reader experience the same sort of dissonance that dreamers themselves experience when trying to connect with one another without universal/shared language.
for ronan specifically, in both trc and tdt, there’s always an element of translation. in the dreaming world, his dreams speak in either latin or a dream language that doesn’t exist in the waking world. in his dreams ronan understands the dream language, but outside of them he can’t. ronan working so hard to learn latin is intentional — by understanding it in and outside of his dreams, he can bridge a language gap for himself; can understand his waking world AND his dreaming world at once. he studies it like his life depends on it because. it. does. the puzzle box is also helpful to ronan because it makes something that is unreal in the waking world, real — it is confirmation of the validity of that language. whether you’re thinking of dreaming as a metaphor for chronic illness, mental illness, or some other identity, the point is about the feeling of otherness, of inability. ronan only feels strange & lost & like he doesn’t know what the hell he is outside of his dreams where no one else understands his language. where he is confronted by being unable to speak to what he lives in his head.
in conclusion:
ronan lynch i love you.

"The INFP Archetypes"
What makes INFPs different from each other? Well there are many factors. Obviously not all INFPs are the same, and other parts of typology like enneagram, ivs, and socionics do affect this. Some INFPs are also more in tune with their weaker functions (Si and Te) than others. Like the other types, INFPs also have different "archetypes" that are often seen as "general representations" of them. Obviously because mbti is so nuanced and complex, don't fret if you don't identify with any of these! They're very simplified, so not relating doesn’t mean you're not an INFP!
So now let's get into some of the most notable archetypes
1. The Dreamer
Tumblr media
The most notable INFP archetype, one could call it "the INFP poster child." The dreamer is a pure, innocent, curious, sensitive, and idealistic INFP. The dreamer looks at the world with wide, starry-eyes, and wears their heart on their sleeve. Usually the dreamer is also very romantic poetic, and/or artistic, and they have a wild imagination. The dreamer sees the good in everyone and might often merge with/be present in tropes like the manic pixie dream girl, or the soft boy. They have a tendency to be portrayed as mysterious or misunderstood.
Examples of the dreamer: Belle (Beauty & the Beast), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Amelie, Juliet (Romeo & Juliet), Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables), and Celine (Before Trilogy)
2. The Mediator
Tumblr media
The mediator shares the same traits as the dreamer (pure, sensitive, kind-hearted, etc.) but plays a different role in the story. Typically the dreamers are protagonists, while mediators usually have secondary roles. The mediator often acts as a voice of reason, to keep the protagonist in touch with their humanity or to just listen whenever someone needs to let it all out. The mediator is typically very quirky and non-conformist. The mediator is empathetic and usually soften-spoken, but they're not afraid to stand up for others or what they believe in.
Examples of the mediator: Silvermist (Tinkerbell), Mantis (MCU), Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter), Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury (Sailor Moon), and Lucy Pevensie (Narnia)
3. The Seeker
Tumblr media
The seeker, once again, shares the same traits as the other two but has an emphasis on curiosity and imagination. The seeker is not afraid to ponder life's deeper, more complex questions.
As said by @dragonflymage, the seeker often asks themselves questions like
Why do I exist?
Who am I really inside?
How do I fit?
Where do I belong?
They also go on to add this explanation: "A seeker, continuously looking for answers that we never may find, but that we must keep searching for anyway. "
(If you wanna read more from her post I've reblogged it on my page) While they search for these answers, the seeker oftentimes will go on a "hero's journey" in hopes of finding the answer along their quest
Examples of the seeker: Merlin (BBC), Newt Scamander (Fantastic Beasts/HP), Luke Skywalker (Star Wars), Edward Scissorhands, and Frodo (LOTR)
4. The Emotional Villain
Tumblr media
As you can see this one is a complete 180 compared to the other three lol. This pattern doesn't exactly have a name, so I just made one up.
Pretty much all INFP villains I've seen are driven by their emotions. Afterall, Fi is our dominant function. The emotional villain is driven by personal reasons and experiences, they're not just evil for the sake of being evil. Typically the emotional villain is very moody, disturbed, and/or unstable. They are usually the direct opposite of their other INFP counterparts: they are selfish, ruthless, and blood-hungry.
Examples of the emotional villain: Wanda Maximoff (MCU), Joker (2019 ver), and Kylo Ren (Star Wars).
5. The Angsty Teen
Tumblr media
Another really common portrayal of INFPs in media is the angsty teen. This archetype is pretty self explanatory, an angsty hormonal teenager. The angsty teen often struggles with social anxiety, and/other another mental illness. They also might have trust issues, be really moody, or hurting from unrequited love or some other trauma. The angsty teen often copes through artistic means, like poetry or painting.
I feel the feelings on this archetype are very divided. While a lot of people don't like having that image as a representation of their type, some argue that it's a realistic portrayal of the darker side of being an INFP. I personally feel like the angsty teen represents my inner conflicts, while the dreamer, mediator, and seeker represent my outward behavior most of the time. What are your thoughts?
Examples of the angsty teen: Shinji Ikari (Evangelion), Will Byers (Stranger Things), Cassie Ainsworth (Skins), Kou Mabuchi (Blue Spring Ride), Violet Parr (The Incredibles), Nico di Angelo (Percy Jackson), Charlie Kelmeckis (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Elio Perlman (Call Me By Your Name), Todd Anderson (Dead Poets Society), Fischl (Genshin Impact), Lydia Deetz (Beetlejuice) and Cry Baby (K-12)
There's plenty more archetypes but I thought I'd just focus on these 5. Also remember that these archetypes don't represent all INFPs as a whole, they’re just like "INFPs in a nutshell."
What are your thoughts? Which archetypes do you relate to? Which one's your favorite? Which one's your least favorite?

thinking about the raven king again and. I think MS isn’t that good at writing finales.
don’t get me wrong, I love TRK in a lot of ways, but it is the weakest book in the raven cycle (not to mention Greywaren being what it is)
Both Greywaren and TRK are weak in that they’re far shorter than they need to be—leaving many questions left unanswered and many plot points rushed.
When I finished TRK, I had many questions (some of which were answered in the dreamer trilogy, but I believe TRC should be able to stand alone). Can Blue and Gansey kiss again? Did Ronan ever get in touch with Declan and Matthew after he almost died? Do they remember Noah at all? Does Mr. Gray get to return to Henrietta? What about the Camero wheel they found in the lake? How is Gansey really doing post-death? etc. etc.
Not to mention the rushed plot points like Blue finding out her heritage suddenly, and that not really getting to go anywhere.
All of these problems are turned to the highest notch in Greywaren but quite frankly I don’t have the energy to talk about that book.

Do you write fic for The Raven Cycle and The Dreamer Trilogy (or do you want to)? Does the epilogue of Greywaren leave you yearning for more about what Ronan Lynch and Adam Parrish do in their post-canon life together?
Then this is just the thing for you!
50 States, 50* Pynch Fics is a fandom event seeking exactly what it sounds like: fifty-one Pynch fics, one set in every state and Washington, DC, following these two assholes around as they go about the United States together, fixing ley lines and doing other magical nonsense in their post-canon lives.
Have you ever wanted to write Pynch running into Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest? How about having a grand old time in Palm Springs?
If you answered yes to the above, or if you have other ideas about Pynch interacting with cryptids, this is the place for you!
Sign up here!
FAQ
What fresh hell is this?
This is an attempt at a fandom event. In Greywaren's epilogue, we learn Ronan is wandering around working on ley lines and Adam works for "an organization with a dot gov email," and that they often work together across the United States. I thought it'd be fun to follow them on that post-canon journey and write a fic set in each of the 50 states (plus DC).
Is there a deadline?
Nope! I want this to be as low-key and low-stress as possible for everyone involved and there's no hard deadline for posting fics. Life happens. Stuff gets in the way of writing. All I ask is that if you claim a state, you make your best effort to post the fic for it, and if it ends up you're not in a place to write it, just contact me.
Is there a word count requirement?
Again, nope! Write a microfic, write a drabble, write 100k. Write however much or as little as you want.
What can I write?
Literally anything. Fluff, smut, hurt/comfort, whatever you feel like. Go crazy. And if you feel like an AU, I'm not gonna stop you. You don't even need to know anything about a state. Pop them in a hotel room and say it's in Montana for all I care. What if you can't contain yourself and want to write fics for the entire West coast? Go ahead and write fics for Washington, Oregon, and California. I won't stop you. And if one fic for Maine doesn't satisfy you, write more! Multiple fics per state are welcome.
How do I sign up?
There's a prompt challenge here on AO3 with all 50 states and Washington, DC. If you want to write a fic for a state, hit the "Claim" button for that state. Please note, I have never created a prompt challenge before and I'm still trying to figure out how this thing works. If you run into issues, just contact me. We'll figure this thing out together!
Ultimately, I just want everyone to have fun. That's what fandom is all about. So let's write and read some great fics!
- @kelliealtogether, who doesn't know what the hell she's getting herself into so please be patient 🥰
*Though Ronan would be pleased if I went "Fuck Washington" too, we can't leave out DC. 😌

my fave unresolved dreamer trilogy plot point is how ronan is the fbi's most wanted. like iirc it's literally never mentioned or brought up again as an issue requiring resolution, even tho he had like 7 fed agencies after him in mi because of all the terrorism that he did 100% do. i love this so much. i was like "how are they gonna resolve such a major fucked-up problem" and the answer is "we will never know" which means i can make up the most absurd concepts imaginable for how ronan danced away from a whole Life In Prison Without Parole debacle. join me in thinking about this. who got the charges against ronan and hennessy dropped. and how did they do it. and how stupid was it. wrong answers only

mechanic anakin & droids
(artoo and ani gif credit: upstartpoodle)
Tumblr media
there so much to be drawn from anakin's natural predeliction/genuine kindness towards droids:
-he states many times he is most at peace when "fixing things". he finds comfort in the mechanizations of small parts to aid a greater whole. he fixes droids because he feels they matter.
-he respects nonorganic creatures who do the bidding of others without thought to their own will. he is so kind - because as a freed slave he understands this. he'd never mistreat a droid based off their perceived consciousness - that isn't the issue. the issue is one's generosity towards a being with less autonomy than oneself. and he has immense generosity.
- his love for droids is like an animal lover towards animals, he wants to protect them against a greater threat and considers them to be innocent and innately loveable. he also an incredibly lonely person and a dreamer - as a child he wishes to construct the world around him, as well as friends, to keep him company.
-he literally builds threepio as a child, a protocol droid laced with anxiety... come on. if that isn't projecting, what is?
-he covers c3po in GOLD! the only protocol droid we see in sw covered in gold (i believe). an indication of how highly he thinks of his creation and also an indication of his own innate goodness
-he leaves threepio "unfinished" on tatooine - a sign of his growth yet to be had, to be completed by his destiny and by his interface with others
Tumblr media
-threepio also loses an arm in the Sequel trilogy, mimicking Anakin's injury. in the Sequels threepio is decommissioned and the "resurrected" - just like Anakin. also we see in the Sequels that artoo lays dormant for many years while Luke (Anakin's light) is sequestered and hidden away, and only "wakes up" when Luke returns/is found
Tumblr media
-Anakin externalizes the love he can't give himself to mechanics. he treats Artoo with respect and love, praising him for being brave and trying his hardest. he has endless affection and patience for the jittering threepio. he sees their strengths as his personal pride and their faults as endearing, unlike with himself -- he cannot find any true admirable qualities in himself and is riddled with self doubt. Anakin even outright tells Obi-wan not to judge Artoo because "he's trying"!!! which is huge for him. he externalizes and projects on the droids - as much as they also represent him.
Tumblr media
-his love for droids is so pure! threepio and artoo can be seen as extensions of his bravery and anxiour fear, both of which are goodhearted. his MECHANICAL SOUL (through Artoo and Threepio) lives on past Mustafar and continues to guide Leia, Luke, Obi-wan and the OG/Sequel trilogy. this "pure" mechanical soul is directly opposed to the "impure" mechanical soul of Vader. Anakin vs Vader coexisting again.
-this concept of MECHANICAL SOUL is important because we know in the end Anakin falls to Vader as part of his tragic destiny... he becomes a Dark Robotic Cyborg amalgamation (Vader) whereas Threepio&Artoo preserve and protect Anakin's innocence and light in a mirror to how Luke and Leia do it.
-Artoo follows Anakin to MUSTAFAR! and leaves without him, taking off in the ship with Obi-wan :( because Vader is born and he no longer need follow his creator. the fact that Artoo accompanied Anakin to Mustafar shows there was still some semblance of Anakin fighting through even on Mustafar such as when Anakin reaches his mechanical hand towards Obi-wan as he is burning, trying to use it to climb up the cliff
Tumblr media
-it is heartwrenching and touching that anakin identifies so closely with droids
-it is interesting that Anakin's "de-evolution" into Vader can be traced to Dooku (a Sith) amputating his arm (the beginning of his Dark Mechanical Body), but also that eventually this same hand (gold-colored like Threepio) which was given to him when he is still a Jedi ends up being one of the last vestiges of Anakin left as Vader is created on the table/as Vader burns on Mustafar. Anakin uses this gold hand to try to crawl to Obi-wan. This shows his duality. His robotic hand represents both Vader in Anakin, and Anakin in Vader.
-he'd 100% be part of the droid liberation movement if he lived and wasnt predestined to fall
-it is heartwrenching that for all his love of robotics, mechanics, fixing, creating, and droids he becomes a machine that is unfixable.... or so he thinks ;)

Fic Stats Tag Game
Rules: Give us the links to your fics with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and your fic with the least amount of words.
Thanks so much for the tag @zephfair 🥰
Most Hits: Kintsugi - 7,639 Hits - Matchablossom, SK8 the Infinity - Kaoru has long buried his emotions around relationships and sex, particularly in regards to his feelings about Kojiro, but since his beef with Adam, he isn't sure if he wants to continue keeping himself as buttoned up as he has over the past seven years.
Second Most Kudos: Kintsugi, again - 728 Kudos
Third Most Comments: Stealing My Clothes - 38 Comment Threads - Matchablossom, SK8 the Infinity -
Kojiro didn’t stop teasing Kaoru about it though. He reminded Kojiro of a magpie, only instead of stealing shiny things, he stole well-loved t-shirts and sweatshirts.
or
Kojiro leant Kaoru his favorite shirt once and never got it back because it became a source of comfort for Kaoru. Now Kaoru steals Kojiro's clothes all the time and Kojiro is settling in to being okay with that.
Fourth Most Bookmarks: Gifts - 104 Bookmarks - Matchablossom, SK8 the Infinity - Every year Kaoru asks Kojiro what he wants for his birthday and every year he gets the same answer...that he doesn't want or need anything. Kaoru decides to go all out and spoil his man.
Fifth Most Words: Teaghlach - 36,483 Words - Pynch, The Raven Cycle/Dreamer Trilogy -
The sample size was small, but literally everyone Ronan knew, besides Hennessy and Carmen Farooq-Lane, were having babies. He didn’t necessarily consider himself the baby having type. Most people would look at him and think that he would be the one to drop said baby. He would be the first to say that his lifestyle was not necessarily accommodating to a baby. But nonetheless…Ronan Lynch wanted a baby.
_
The one in which Lindenmere manifests a baby and catapults Ronan and Adam into Parenthood
Least Amount of Words: Count the Ways - 281 Words - Mike Chilton/Julie Kane, Motorcity - Mike reflects on all the things he loves about Julie. (I wrote this fic in 2012)
I'll tag @annaofaza @lizpaige and whoever else would like to do this! No pressure either way!

JANUARY 2024 WRAP UP
[loved liked ok DNF (reread) bookclub*]
Mammoths at the Gates • An Impossible Imposter • Greywaren • The Hexologists • Mister Impossible • Reclaiming Two Spirits • (Check, Please: #Hockey)* • Thornhedge • Call Down the Hawk • All the Hidden Paths • All the Beauty in the World • (The Raven King) • (A Strange and Stubborn Endurance) • (Blue Lily, Lily Blue) • The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie • The Missing Page • Bird By Bird • Lucky Red • Portrait of a Thief
I suppose I may as well start with the giant pile of Maggie Stiefvater and get that out of the way, lol. According to Goodreads, this was at least my 3rd time through the entire Raven Cycle. Despite that, I had only the vaguest idea of what happened in the last two books, and now having reread them (again), yeah, that tracks! I can hang with book 3 but I have no idea what was really going on in The Raven King, and as a series finale I didn't love it. It felt a lot like the dreamer plotlines drowned out the original Glendower and ley line story that we started with. But, Maggie being Maggie, I love the way she writes so much that I at least still enjoyed the reading experience. And it made an incredibly clear lead-in to the Dreamer Trilogy (which I had not read), it made total sense, I was hopeful! Again, Maggie being Maggie, I had a good time reading them, I liked learning more about the Lynch brothers, I'm always down for some art forgery, but I just didn't really like it and (while I'm glad for Maggie that she was able to write it) I could have lived without it. It completely did not have the vibe or charm of TRC and, criminally, did not include the Gangsey. How!!!!
The Missing Page - liked it! It felt a lot more solid as a mystery than the first book, which I greatly appreciated, though the villagers in the first book were maybe a bit more fun. I'm not feeling particularly inspired to go look up more Cat Sebastian after this, but if she writes another one of these I'd read it.
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie - I've had this one on my mystery tbr for a while, and for some reason I'd thought it was set in a much earlier time period than the 1950's? lol. Our protagonist is the youngest of 3 sisters growing up in genteel poverty with an absent father, and she has the run of the village, the house, and an incredibly well stocked chemistry lab left by an ancestor. She is both incredibly clever and terribly naive, and absolutely terrifying because of it. Flavia is fascinating as a detective, because she's not written as the protagonist of a middle grade mystery novel - she's a child. This was an interesting read, but I'm not sure it's what I'm looking for in a mystery novel and I don't think I'll continue the series.
A Strange and Stubborn Endurance - reread this in advance of the sequel - it was a bit easier to see some flaws this time around, but had a good time! This *was* my first time listening to it on audio though, and I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It had a different person reading for each of the main characters and their voices just didn't pair well for me - not to mention one of them also read Lev AC Rosen's Lavender House and boy does he do some distinctive character voices.
All the Hidden Paths - didn't go quite so well. I think primarily my mental space was not pairing well with the tensions of reading this for the first time, I do think on a reread I might like it better. Somehow the spy/saboteur was my favorite character? He was soo bad at his job, I found it very funny. But overall, I think it was just a little too close to a rehash of the plot from the first book, leaving me to think Meadows might not be the best at writing mysteries. Luckily it does at least score high on my romance scale.
All the Beauty in the World: The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Me - first nonfic of the year! I've been eagerly anticipating my library getting an audio copy ever since I first heard about this last year, it sounded cool, I'm fascinated by art museums and behind-the-scenes! Unfortunately I was not into it, and almost 2 months on I can't remember enough to even try to tell you why. It did pair interestingly with another recent read, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler, but I'm still learning how far into memoir territory I can go. Someone stop me from trying the other Met nonfic book I found recently lol.
Thornhedge - wonderful! No notes! I love fairy tales and this was a delight to read.
Check, Please! #Hockey - loved getting to revisit this for book club! I've been meaning to for a few years, because y'all. I've read so much fanfic, and I have no idea what is in the comic, what Ngozi posted as extras, and what is fanon. The comic had less than I was expecting! Still fun, my fellow book-clubber liked it, but my real love was the tweets! I'll definitely try to read Vol 2 this year so I can then browse the larger collection of them compiled in the Chirpbook.
Reclaiming Two Spirits: I saw this one on tumblr and fortunately was able to get access to the audiobook! It's a topic I was very interested in learning more about, and I did! But - this is a research project, more than anything, it could be very repetitive (which, fair. colonizers suck), and it felt distanced from its subject. I feel it's a book that definitely has its place, but it's not objectively a 'good read,' and I'd rather have had something from someone who is indigenous and two-spirit themselves.
The Hexologists - it has its quirks, but this was unapologetically a delight to read and I had a fun time! I'm a sucker for a world with a magic vs industrial revolution, not to mention a married pair of established investigators, and I always appreciate an author who's willing to get a bit silly. If there's ever more books I'd love to read them!
An Impossible Imposter - she is what she is, I had a good time! This one felt like it might have taken some inspo from The Moonstone 👀
Mammoths at the Gate - had a good time with this, as I always do with the Singing Hills books. Stories about stories are like catnip, I should reread them all sometime!
Bird by Bird by Ann Lamott (DNF) - I have only the vaguest memories of reading parts of this for a creative writing class in college, and now that I'm getting more into nonfiction thought why not? Unfortunately the audiobook version I got was read by the author, who absolutely does not have an audiobook voice/cadence. I considered trying again with the version read by someone else, but decided I wasn't actually interested enough to continue.
Lucky Red By Claudia Cravens (DNF) - the host of one of the podcasts I listen to was gushing about this one and I was like, sapphic western? Sign me up! I read about 25% of it, and it all seemed fine, it just wasn't feeling particularly interesting to me. Absolutely give it a shot if you'd like!
Portrait of a Thief by Grace D Li (DNF) - I knew going in this had been getting mixed reviews. I really like the idea of it - I enjoy a heist, am always interested in fine arts/art history drama, and vigilante art repatriation hell yeah! But this felt very much like it was trying to emulate a heist *movie*, and it just wasn’t working for me as a book. If this ever gets adapted I’d love to see it.

Fanfic Writer Questions
I was tagged in this by both @dreadfutures and @blarrghe ! I did this once a few years ago, so it's interesting to see what's changed since then.
Tagging forward: @theluckywizard @greypetrel @darethshirl @natliecole @if-not-now-tell-me-when @madame-fear
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 35, though I believe 5 of them are artwork only for exchanges and not actually fics.
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 87, 413 words
3. What fandoms do you write for? In my AO3 era: Hockey RPF; Dragon Age; La Sociedad de la Nieve/Society of the Snow Pre-AO3 (the ff.net/LJ era): Digimon Adventure, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Beatles RPF, a little bit of DC/Marvel
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1. The Tang of Liquor On His Tongue (Dragon Age) 2. The Dreamer Sets the Rules (Dragon Age) 3. mala suledin nadas (Dragon Age) 4. Smut Challenge 2: War Table Boogaloo (Dragon Age) 5. Mañana (LSDLN/SotS)
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes! Or at least I try to! There have been a couple of times where I've gotten overwhelmed or have been busy and fallen behind. But I try really hard to reply to every single comment I get.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? That's hard to pick. I think that a lot of my fic endings lean more towards catharsis than raw angst. Perhaps "Lathbora Viran" is the angstiest ending because it concludes a trilogy of fics about Solas' spirit friend Wisdom and ends with the implication that Wisdom became corrupted into the Regret demon that appears in Skyhold in "Tevinter Nights".
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Any of my romantic fics, I guess? If I had to pick one then I would probably say "Nothing Else Than What is Now" which was the extremely long one shot that led to all my Quinn Trevelyan/Horatio Morris nonsense. It originally wasn't supposed to have a happy ending, but about midway through writing it I changed my mind and even though OC / OC is extremely niche in just about any fandom, I'm still glad I did it.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not yet. We'll see if that changes now that I've mentioned I've written LSDLN fic.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yep. 2 out of my top 5 fics are smut, and 2 more out of the top 5 have implied sex. I suppose that says I must be good at it. I don't really know what kind of smut I write since every smutfic I've written has been either a challenge or a prompt fill or a gift. I think I'm an example of that meme of "the 2000 word blow job is an important piece of character development". I really lean into tricking you into having emotions and feelings and getting introspective inside characters' heads while they're naked and getting down dirty. Come for the smut, stay for the emotional feelings!
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I did when I was younger, but haven't really vibed with it much in recent years. In terms of published fic, maybe the Harry Potter/Beatles crossover drabble I wrote based on a piece of artwork that an old friend of mine had done. I still have the fic, but the artwork has sadly been lost to the ethers of the internet. But the idea was that the Beatles didn't really break up in 1970, they just took on a different career.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge. But I have taken to granting permission in my author's notes of new fics for anyone who might want to translate them into other languages.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, actually! Some of my very first fanfics were co-written with a friend of mine. We never published them, but it was just fun to write little stories together.
14. What's your all time favourite ship? Even though I've never written any fanfic for it, I am 100% pure unleaded Chrobin trash. They are my OTP and I am probably due for a replay of Fire Emblem Awakening for it again. "YOU ARE THE WIND AT MY BACK AND THE SWORD AT MY SIDE."
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? One of the very first fics I ever started writing for the Dragon Age fandom was an Alistair/Cousland piece that looked at the period of time between the Warden's disappearance and their (hopefully) eventual return. It was meant to be 10 chapters, with each chapter split between a section in the past that looked at their romance over time and a section that took place in the more immediate present as Alistair navigated the events of DAI. I still have the document sitting on my laptop as well as backed up in my google drive, but I only ever finished the first chapter and even though I go back to it sometimes and make notes, I've not worked on it with any serious attention in years (I started this fic not too long after the Trespasser DLC was released) and at this point I doubt it will ever be in a publishable state let alone finished.
16. What are your writing strengths? I think I'm really good at dialogue! I'm very good at conveying personalities and speech patterns in written dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Blowjobs
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? For me, I think it depends on the amount of dialogue that is being spoken in another language and whether or not it's something the character whose POV is being written would understand.
With fantasy settings like Dragon Age, most of my fics are written from the POV of one of the game protagonists which are all human in my world state. So they wouldn't understand things like Qunlat or Elvhen, but also as those conlangs are incomplete languages, I will usually just refer to dialogue as being spoken in a language that the POV character doesn't understand. In a few fics where I've written from Solas' POV, I have used things like italics or sometimes <<special dialogue brackets>> to denote that this speech is being spoken between two characters in another language. Since the languages are fictional but the story is being told in English, it makes sense that the "author" translates in a similar logic to how Tolkien's books are "translated" for us to read.
With stories and settings that are more grounded in reality, I'll use other languages where appropriate. Usually this is in the form of nicknames or titles or expressions that I feel can't really convey the same tone or idea if they were translated into English. I've been very fortunate to find several new friends in the LSDLN fandom who have taught me a lot about monickers and nicknames and phrases in different regional dialects of Spanish.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Technically it was Digimon Adventure - baby's first Mary-Sue fic
20. Favourite fic you've written? It's a tie between "In the Long Hours of the Night" and "The Many Faces of Wisdom". With the former, this was the fic where I first felt like I finally got Quinn Trevelyan. It was the fic where he emerged as a more formed and complete character and I'm still proud of it. With the latter, it was an experimental idea that toyed with a rather ambiguously-defined relationship between Solas and the Inquisitor. It also was the first time I played around with writing Fade scenes and spirits and you can see a lot of the building blocks that I would eventually revisit and explore more as I fleshed out my own lore. It's also the one fic where I started with a very specific image in my mind and that I would really love to commission art for one day.
