What's Ghost!Zazzy's dynamic with Paul like? I didn't really think about this much until you mentioned Zazz watching him play video games a while back, and now I'm Curious.
so this is one of the areas where s&f’s bbc ghosts parody origins are most apparent. im assuming you havent seen it because its a british show so to give some context, the main character is a woman who can see ghosts and is friends with them, and her husband cant see them but knows theyre there and is supportive. so, in s&f, through some ritual bs that will be explained in the fic paul is not able to see zaz even when emma can.
zaz likes paul from the start but isnt as attatched to him as she is emma, mostly because she has more time to get attatched to emma. shes fond of emma and can see how much paul cares for her so she likes paul - she relates to him because shes trying to look out for emma too. since she knows less about him than emma shes curious about him when she sees him. if all three are them are in the apartment shes more likely to be hanging around paul because so much of him is a mystery (e.g. what the fuck is this ‘office’ thing he keeps talking about?) which is what leads to her watching his video games.
when paul is first aware of zaz hes kinda wary of her - his girlfriend has a fucking ghost in her apartment and they dont know much about it beyond it probably being from the stone age, so hes a little concerned that she might not be safe. but emma is confident in her ghost-handling abilities so he trusts her to handle herself while being ready to help out if she needs it. this just makes zaz like him more.
when emma is able to communicate with zaz hes not as wary but shes still a bit of a mystery to him. they cant directly communicate very well but he gets an idea of her personality through what emma relays to him, and knows she likes watching him game. and then theres a day where emma needs to go somewhere without zaz - shes going to see tom and wants to focus on rebuilding their relationship without being worried about zaz distracting her, since shes always very curious and excited in new environments. but since zaz doesnt want to be left on her own she asks paul if zaz can hang out with him for the day. its odd because its almost like babysitting but zaz is five years older than him. talking to her is kinda odd at first because her responses are quite limited and it feels a bit like hes just talking to himself, and after a few failed attempts at a conversation he starts just commentating on his game and she seems to enjoy that a lot more. from then on they communicate more because he knows how to communicate with her - both in terms of the logistics of talking to a ghost and just what to talk about. he suggests that emma should show her youtube lets plays since she likes watching the games but she doesnt like it as much as watching paul, because watching paul play feels like spending time with a tribe member and the videos are strangers. also, paul explains things a lot better since he knows she lacks knowledge in a lot of modern areas.
