stolen kisses while hiding away from a crowd for Maria?
Thank you for asking! This fits them beautifully 💗
(Kissing Prompts)
'Til Evening's End
(Maria Hawke/Fenris | 1,895 Words | No warnings)
Golden light spilled from every window of Hawke’s manor, reflecting on fresh snowdrifts in the courtyard beyond. Inside, the fancy crowd laughed in little clusters. Serving staff, hired for the evening, circulated with little trays of food. A discreet quartet of Ferelden musicians sat at the gallery above the library, playing soft tunes that held the strains of Hawke’s childhood.
Hawke loved people. She loved the way they spoke to each other, the way the right sort of party brought out the more amiable side of the fine lords and ladies of Kirkwall, the way a certain sort of feeling drifted into a room of people who were enjoying good food and company. She liked presiding over such things—how funny that she should agree with her mother now, after it was far too late to tell her she’d been right in this much—and knowing that their happiness was because of her.
But it was far too fucking hot in there.
Hawke stepped out of the house with a swish of skirts now, breath immediately rising in a cloud before her. Orana had hurriedly draped a shawl over her bare shoulders when Hawke had darted for the back door, but she let it slip to her elbows now. How perfect the cool night felt over her flushed cheeks, how sweetly the cold air twined about her ankles; for a moment she just stood there in the night, breathing in the fresh scent of snow and listening to the echoes of the party inside.
“Maria.”
The voice startled her—she’d neither heard nor expected him before that moment—but she was smiling even before she turned.
“Fenris! But you said you wouldn’t be here tonight,” she stepped forward, lifting her hands to him, and let him draw her into the quieter shadows beside the kitchen wall.
“I forgot, and came to see you,” he told her, running a hand over her arm. His nose was red with the cold, his fingers ice against her bare upper arms. “When I saw the lights, I thought I might make my way upstairs and wait.”
“Poor thing—you’re freezing,” she said, and cupped one of his hands between hers. His free hand lifted, tracing a curl back over her shoulder.
“I do not know how you stand it,” he said. “Especially with your shoulders bare.”
“The cold?” Hawke cupped his hand between hers and exhaled warm air over it. “I don’t feel it. It’s an oven in there; I thought I might choke on the air itself if I didn’t step outside. And here—I have been soundly rewarded for it. A lovely man, skulking about my kitchen garden.”
“I was not—” Fenris began, the sentence cut off when she took a step closer and nudged his cold nose with her own. Music drifted from the windows—something cheerful, she thought. How lovely it would be to share it with him, for she hadn’t joined the fray even once tonight.
“You ,” she murmured, her lips brushing against his, “should dance with me. We could dance.”
“It is cold,” Fenris told Maria, his eyes drifting half-closed.
“Dancing would warm you.”
Her grip on his hand shifted slightly, drawing slightly further from their bodies. Her other hand rested lightly over the armor on his shoulder.
“So would going inside,” he told her, his voice as quiet as hers.
Something about snow did that, she thought—made one want to whisper. Snow had a way of swallowing sound, making one feel like one dwelled in a world of one’s own. Fenris’s hand lifted, finding her waist easily, and rested just over the curve of her hip.
“But if you go back inside, you won’t be with me,” Maria said.
Inside, the quartet struck up a new, slower tune. She swayed slightly, taking a step back, and Fenris stepped with her. He’d told her many times that he was not a natural dancer, but battle and other, softer activities had taught them well how to read the movement of each other’s bodies. He found the rhythm readily enough, fitting his steps to hers after only a slight hesitation.
“One dance,” he told her, a smile hiding in the corner of his mouth.
Hawke adored the pink in his cheeks and the light snow dusting his pale hair, visible only when the ice crystals caught the light. She adored the way he sped up to match the tempo, the way his eyes wrinkled slightly at the corners when he looked at her.
“One dance,” she agreed, “and I shall steal you the finest bottle of wine to keep you company until I can.”
“Is it stealing,” he began, and the hem of her dress scattered snow when he spun her around, “if the wine is yours?”
“I think, since the wine is mine, that I should get to decide if it’s stealing or not,” she countered, smiling broadly at him. Fenris snorted, but caught her tight against him when they turned again.
They might have kissed in that lovely moment—with the moonlight soft over his shoulders and warm affection in his eyes—but just then, the door to the kitchens swung open with a bang.
“Lady Hawke? Are you out here? Messere Godfrey was just telling me the most charming story about your battle with the Arishok and I thought I saw you walk in this direction…Lady Hawke?”
As soon as her guest began to speak, the two of them darted away into the shadows beyond the kitchen, Hawke with a hand clapped over her mouth to stifle the laughter that wished to escape. Fenris left his hand on her waist, head angled to listen.
“I could have sworn I saw her—Bea, didn’t you say she went this way?”
Fenris pressed closer, knocking her arm away from her mouth, and she couldn’t help herself; this was a perfectly ridiculous situation, hiding away from her own party with her beau while her guests hunted through the snow to find her. She was going to laugh and give them both away. She was going to—
Fenris shook his head at her, his eyes widening slightly. Hawke bit her lip, shoulders already shaking, and would certainly have given them away if he hadn’t pressed her back against the wall and covered her mouth with his.
“I do say, what an odd place to be gathering, ladies,” a harsher voice came from the doorway, but Maria hardly noticed it. Fenris’s mouth had been cool at first, but it warmed as it pressed against hers. What had begun as a measure of utility had very quickly slipped into a more familiar and beloved dance.
“We were simply looking for our hostess!” One of the younger voices protested. “Mama—”
Hawke huffed with suppressed laughter and Fenris lifted a hand to the wall beside her head, angling himself more fully against her. The soft fabric of her dress caught on his breastplate, but she could not have cared less. The way he kissed her—so deeply, as if he was trying to press some hidden meaning into her skin—
“What ho,” came a fourth voice. “Quite warm in there, isn’t it?”
“Quite,” said the icy voice. “Young ladies?”
“Yes, Mama,” the first voice sighed, and after a moment the door shut again.
Hawke relaxed slightly, closing her eyes, and Fenris went on kissing her for several sweet minutes. He kissed her like he’d forgotten why he was doing it and didn’t especially care. He kissed her like they had all the time they could care to take, and he would have gone on doing it if he hadn’t shivered, just a little, and reminded Hawke that her lover tolerated the cold far less cheerfully than she.
“You should go in,” she murmured against his warm mouth, and pressed her forehead to his. “Or I shall have an icicle for a beau.”
Fenris scoffed and stole another kiss, eyes still softly closed, but he broke away a moment later.
“Perhaps you are right,” he told her, and brushed his lips over her cheek.
“It’s been known to happen sometimes,” she told him, closing her eyes. Fenris hummed in acknowledgement, dipping his head to kiss her bare shoulder. “If you—go on doing that, we are going to find ourselves in a rather scandalous situation.”
She could almost feel him considering it, mouth still pressed just over her collarbone, but he straightened a moment later.
“You promised me stolen wine,” he reminded her.
Hawke smiled at him—and thought it was a shame that he hated the cold so, for he looked beautiful in it.
“Here,” she said, and took the shawl from her elbows to drape it over his shoulders instead. The red was shocking against his dark armor and pale hair, though it almost perfectly matched the ribbon tied around his wrist. Fenris raised a hand to hold it in place, brows lifting in silent question.
“I’ll be right back,” she said, curling her hands in her skirts. A few moments later, she was back, a basket hanging over one arm.
“That isn’t wine,” he said, and she pressed a hand to her chest.
“Such accusations, messere. It is like you don’t know me at all.”
“Of course, we are perfect strangers,” Fenris said, deadpan, and extended a hand. “What have you brought me, Hawke?”
“Wine,” she said, and laughed easily at his expression. “And food, for I am certain you’ve forgotten to eat, and something to read while you wait. I shouldn’t be long. Of course, if you’ve changed your mind…”
Fenris shook his head, but he was smiling at her in that quiet way he sometimes had, as if he hadn’t noticed he was doing it.
“Not tonight,” he told her, but stepped forward to press a kiss to her forehead. “Soon, then?”
“Soon,” she promised, and kissed each of his winter-touched cheeks. “As soon as I can shoo them all away.”
“Don’t hurry on my account,” he told her, and stepped back with a last brush of his fingers against her cheek. “I will be fine on my own, Maria.”
“I know,” she said, and took a step back. “Nevertheless.”
Fenris inclined his head and turned away, snow caught in his hair, shoulders wrapped in her shawl, and she laughed a little at the vision he presented. A lonely wanderer, trudging long through the snow—she would spin him a tale later, she decided as she watched him go. It wasn’t until he slipped away to the back stair that Hawke turned back to her party and the guests that still waited for her.
It was warm in her room. He didn’t need her to rescue him from the cold or solitude. Fenris would be comfortable and entertained enough, if he did not fall asleep while he waited. He didn’t need her to hurry on his behalf. It was part of the reason why—with a house full of people who might place demands on her attention or time—she wanted to follow him immediately.
There was no reason to rush. She knew he would wait, patient as a mountain in a snowstorm, for her to make her way to him again. Even so—if the party ended slightly earlier than intended, she was the only one who needed to know the cause.
And the only one who knew how warm his arms were when she made her way to him at last.

Ochaco Uraraka sister
“Deku?” You whispered, causing him to jump out of his skin. “You scared me Uraraka-San..” he mumbled, trying to calm his racing heart. “Sorry.. I just need to talk to you.” You said, rubbing the back of your head. “What’s up?” He asked, coming completely around the corner. “I came to ask some questions about Todoroki-kun.” You said, crossing your arms and flushing slightly. “Okay.. What do you want to know?” He asked, as you leaned on the wall. “What’s his favorite place to go..? Y’know, for soba..? Cold..?” You asked, fidgeting slightly. “I don’t really think he cares, he just likes Soba in general.” He replied, then began rambling. “Midoriya, Iida is still waiting for us to meet him for- oh, hello Uraraka.” He said, smiling slightly at you. You blushed, hiding your face. “Hi Todoroki! Bye Todoroki!” You said, leaving quickly. Todoroki frowned. “Does she not like me..?” He muttered to Deku, looking quite disheartened. Deku looked like he just found out the meaning of life, nodding. “Oh..” Todoroki whispered, making Midoriya start to panic. “No! That’s not what I mean, I just- uh- no, she likes you!” He sputtered, waving his arms around.
“Jeez, I messed up..” you whispered to yourself, walking up to Ochaco. “Hey Y/n! What’s wrong..?” She asked, noticing how flustered you looked. “I’m just gonna tell it to ya straight.. I like Todoroki..” you said, crossing your arms. “I know.” She said, walking with you out of the gate. “You made it pretty obvious.” She said, causing you to nod. “You’re pretty obvious about liking Deku.” You said, uncrossing your arms. “I-I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about..” she stuttered, flushing. “Yeah, everyone knows, even Eri knows, Deku’s oblivious.” You said, smiling slightly.

Mina Ashido brother
“Ice cream!” “Ice cream!” You and your sister chanted, following Bakugou around the dorm. “OH MY GOD SHUT UP!” Bakugou yelled, creating explosions in his hands and turning around to glare at you two. Glancing at each other, you both deadpanned. “No” You said at the same time. “NO!? THE HELL YOU MEAN NO!!” He yelled, before Jirou and Uraraka walked into the room. “The class wanted to know if you guys wanted to play truth or dare with us!” Uraraka excitedly cheered, causing Mina to gasp, clapping her hands and grabbing Jirou and Uraraka’s. “Why didn’t you tell me in the first place!” She whined, their voices fading as they walked away. “So uhm..” you mumbled, shuffling nervously. “You wanna play?” You asked, turning towards him. He shrugged, dragging you by your collar towards the common room. “I’ll take that as a yes-!” You got cut off by him jerking your collar, causing you to whine slightly.
After a few lame truths and dares, it was your turn. “Y/n! Truth or dare?” Mina asked, which made you smirk and sigh in relief. “Finally! Alright, dare!” You said, excitement beyond belief from the boring dares everyone else had to do. “I dare you to…” she started, pausing to think. “Kiss your crush!” She finished, pointing at you. “What are we in, kindergarten?!” Bakugou shouted, growing a tick mark. You shrugged. “Dare’s a dare” you said, tugging Bakugou into a kiss. Everyone gasped, as you felt Bakugou’s racing heart under your hand. You pulled away, panting slightly. “God damn!” Mina exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air. “Who would’ve thot!!” She exclaimed again, the rest of the class looking just as shocked. You sat back down, as Bakugou looked awestruck. “Is it m-“ Bakugou snatched you into another kiss, looking slightly irritated. The kiss was hungry, like this wasn’t a ‘game’ anymore. “You can’t just slip that past me, dumbass..” he growled, as you chuckled nervously. “I’m in danger!” You said, Bakugou swinging you over his shoulder. “Get it bro! Use protection!” Your sister said, waving, as did everyone else while laughing hysterically.

Tsuyu Asui sister
“Tsu!” You exclaimed, opening your bedroom door. She’d just come home from the training camp, and you, along with your brother and sister, were ecstatic. “C’mon Satsuki, you’re too slow..!” You complained, dragging both of them with you. She whined, going faster than before. You dragged them down the stairs and to the living room where your dad was prodding at her, mostly on why she was hurt. You all ambushed her with hugs, saying how much you missed her. “I missed you too! Kero” she snickered, smiling brightly. (She already knows your crush so have this🐥)

Kyoka Jirou brother
You were taking a walk while listening to the after school E.P, currently on test me…
👀 anyways, you weren’t paying attention since you were too into humming the tune instead of what the goal at hand was, which was keeping your feet moving in a safe manner and avoiding obstacles. “So I beg to be tested by goddesses resting their heads upon pillows..” you quietly sang, bobbing your head slightly. “Of all they have learned ‘Cause I’m mortal..” you finished, a skip in your step. “I like that song..” you heard faintly, before jolting, turning around to deck them square in the face. “Oh! Shit- sorry Midoriya..!” You exclaimed, as he held his nose. “It’s okay..” he hissed, you taking his hand away, causing him to flinch. “Sorry.. Sorry..” you repeated, wiping his nose on your sleeve. He chuckled nervously. “It’s fine, I shouldn’t have spoken so randomly.” He said, grinning at you. “You’re right.. I should’ve went for the pepper spray.” You mumbled, nodding. “P-pepper spray..?” He stuttered, as you shrugged. “Dad wants me to be protected since he says there weirdos out here, also the attacks on 1-A.” You explained, opening your bag with all of your protective gear. “I see…” he mumbled, jumping when you abruptly slammed it shut. “Can I buy you some Katsudon? Courtesy for fuckin up your nose.” You offered, already beginning to walk again. “I-I can’t let you pay-“ He started, before you cut him off. “I said I would, so I am. You said, as he sighed, walking behind you.
“You owe me” Denki whispered. Jirou scoffed, handing him 2,213 Yen(basically 20 dollars). “Thank youuu..” he muttered, smirking triumphantly. “Just c’mon, we gotta keep up if we’re gonna spy” Kyoka said, sneaking behind you two.

It’s nice to meet you, I’m Y/N Kayama.” You said, reaching your hand out for a handshake. He shook your hand. “Nice to meet you too.. Kero” he mumbled, causing you to smile at him reassuringly. “Are you the nice girl’s little brother?” You asked, beginning to walk. “Tsu?” He asked, glancing at you. “Yeah-huh. She’s my sisters student.” You replied, nodding. You guys began talking about kindergarten ‘drama’. After a few minutes, the bell rang, which startled you slightly. You giggled, getting up, and walking back to your classrooms to get ready to go home. “Hey, Kayama, my dad wanted me to ask if I can come over after school.” Akari said, walking over to you. You flushed, hiding your face in your backpack, grabbing your stuffy. “I-I don’t think Nemuri would m-mind..” you stuttered, as he smiled brightly at you. “Thanks, Y/n! I think I should still ask your sister though.” He said, grabbing his own backpack. “C’mon Asui-San, let’s go..” you muttered, walking out the door behind Akari. Once you got outside, Asui and his sisters immediately advanced towards their older sister who was waiting outside of the school. He waved at you two, before disappearing behind the corner. “Y/n!” Your sister called, and beckoned you over. You grabbed Akari’s hand, walking towards your sister. “Nemuri-nee, Akari’s dad was wondering if he could come home with me after school.” You said, grabbing her hand. “I don’t mind, ‘long as he doesn’t make a mess.” She said, shrugging. “I told you” you said, as he stuck his tongue out at you. You returned the gesture, your sister snickering, as you finally got to the car.
Tumblr media
Himiko Toga brother
“Himikooo~! Let’s go get you some more blood!” You cheered, as she popped from behind the wall. “God damn it.. Two crazies today of all days..?” Dabi groaned, gulping down his whiskey. “Sorry honey, you’re gonna have to sit this one out.” You said, sitting on the counter next to him. “Can I have a hug?” You asked, as he sighed. He opened his arms, you going in for the hug. You stuck your needle in his arm to take some blood. “God dammit!” He hissed, as you began laughing hysterically along with your sister. “I still love you!” You exclaimed, rushing out the door with your sister. (These are kinda shorter since they already know your crush soo..)
Tumblr media
Rumi Usagiyama brother
“Rumi-nee?” You called, creaking the door open slightly. “Hm?” She hummed, peaking out of her closet. “Wait what are you doing?” You asked, running towards her. “Hey! No running in the house, you know the rules..” she said, fading as she went back into her closet. “I’m taking the stuff I think my girlfriend would like.” She said, throwing a few shirts and dresses on the bed. “Can I help?” You asked, jumping onto her bed.. Quite literally. “Sure. What do you think would look better on me?” She asked, sitting next to you. “I don’t know, you’re always pretty.” “Awww~ cotton tail!” “Except for when you’re waking up in the morning. You’re scary” you mumbled, as she deadpanned. “Just.. Tell me what I should wear..” she grumbled, walking to the bathroom. You dug through the things she threw on the bed, and found a white dress. “I found it Rumi!” You exclaimed, running into the bathroom. “Ooo that’s nice, cotton tail!” She complimented, taking the dress and hanging it up on the door. “Full makeup or no?” She asked, obviously grabbing mascara. “Nuh uh, you’re already pretty.” You said, jumping onto the counter and swinging your legs. “Thanks buddy.. Alright, hair straight or curled?” She asked, grabbing a curling iron. You shook your head, and she nodded, taking a quick shower and doing her makeup. “Oki doki, hawks is gonna be here soon, so behave, Kay?” She said, finishing her lipstick. You nodded, hopping off the counter, and heading to your room. “Hey, fancy pants! Get all spruced up for me?” You heard hawks faintly down the hall. “AH SHIT- why didn’t you just knock on the door!” She asked, as you heard hawks hiss, whimpering slightly. “Owww ow ow..” he whined, as you heard them walking closer to your room. “Y/n is in there, sorry for punching you..” she muttered. “It’s okay, I should’ve knocked..” he mumbled, sounding slightly nasally. You assumed she was pinching his nose like when you got nose bleeds. You silently hopped off the bed, opening your door. “Are you okay?” You asked, hawks screeching slightly as some feathers flew off. “He’s okay, Y/n. He’s just got a nose bleed” she said, going into the bathroom to get some toilet paper. “Pinch your nose until it stops bleeding, now I gotta go, bye, love you!” She rushed, grabbing a jacket and her keys. “Bye, love you!” You yelled back, rushing down the stairs to give her a quick hug. “Bye Hawks!” She said, closing the door. You stared at it for a while, before hopping onto the couch. “Excuse me, do you want to watch My Little Pony with me? You asked, as hawks came down the stares. He nodded, you clicking on YouTube. He tilted his head since he knew you had Netflix, but shrugged, sitting down next to you. “Can you type in pinkie pie cupcakes?” You asked, smiling innocently at him. He nodded, grinning at you, before grabbing the remote and typing it in. You clicked the first video you saw, waiting for it to start. “Why does it sound so ominous..?” He asked, looking slightly unnerved. “Don’t worry, it’s funny.” You said, smiling reassuringly at him.
“Hey Cottontail! How was your day?” Rumi asked, walking through the door, to you playing with pinkie pie. “It was good! Hawks watched My Little Pony with me.” You said, as Hawks peaked from upstairs. “Thank GOD you’re home! This kid is terrifying..!” He cried, trying to avoid you in every way possible. “Uh- I didn’t pay you yet..?” “I don’t care! Bye!!” He yelled, slamming the door. “What happened?” She asked, turning to you. You shrugged, picking up your rainbow dash pony up the stairs. “Hawks got scared of the dragon I think.” You lied, throwing rainbow dash down the stairs. She shrugged, going to sit on the stairs with you. “I like Hawks, he’s cool.” You said, flushing slightly. “Gosh darn it.. Are you adding to your husband’s list..?” She whined, sighing soon after, and kicking off her heels. She groaned in relief. “Jesus those things are death traps..!” She complained, as you shrugged. “I like playing with heels.” You said, getting up to put your toys away. “Well, be careful next time you do, they’re slippery sometimes.” She said, getting up and grabbing her heels, taking them to her room and kicking the door closed.

I’m not done ranting!” She whined, jumping back on your bed. “Go rant over text..” you mumbled. “But you’re my only brother! And aren’t you supposed to be doing homework anyways?” She accused, leaning on her hand. “Y’know, from a teacher’s standpoint, homework is honestly pointless.” She shrugged, as you nodded. “Right, we already did it at school, lay us some slack..” you mumbled, her finally standing up fully. “Alrighty, I’m off to rant over text as you told me. See ya!” She exclaimed, slamming your door. You shrugged, laying back down to text Shindo.

Dark Paradise // John Shelby
Tumblr media
John Shelby x Reader.

Warnings: Violence, that’s all I think.
A/N: Please just pretend that this isn’t total trash, and that the ending turned out better than how it did.
Word count: 2.5k
John Shelby.
A name than had most men clearing the path when he was on it. The name that so many foolish men -their enemies- liked to challenge. The name that had you swooning whenever you’d hear it. It wasn’t a secret around Birmingham that you were in love with the man; had been since you were 17 years old, when you first laid eyes on him.
You were a practicing nurse, starting so young with the good connections of your father back home in London. You had bumped into Ada at the library one afternoon, and you both quickly became best friends. You smiled to yourself as you remembered the first time you visited the Shelby house.
It had been a couple months since you and Ada started hanging out, and today you and her were going to the pictures, having finally caught a break from your studies. You came to a stop in front of Ada’s house and knocked lightly. A woman with shoulder length brown hair answered the door, the smoke from the cigarette she was smoking blowing out of her mouth and floating away with the wind.
“Christ love, you must be y/n. Ada didn’t tell me you were coming over, bloody girl could of gave me some warning so I could of looked a bit better than.. well this.” the woman laughed lightly and she gestured over her dress. “Well I think you look darling. You must be Polly; Ada speaks of you all the time.” Polly seemed to enjoy your answer as she welcomed you inside with a warm smile and sat you down at the table.
“Tea love?” You nodded with a small thank you while you looked around the kitchen. It was small, no doubt, but strangely made you feel more at home than your own house did back home. “Our Ada’s just upstairs getting ready, she hasn’t piped down about this picture since you girls planned it. Has started to annoy her brothers.” Polly sat across from you and offered you a smoke, to which you declined.
“Good girl.” She praised as she lit a cigarette for herself. “So tell me love, what’s brings you to Small Heath? Ada told me your dad lives in London.” You nodded while you sipped at your tea.
“Yes, he does. I’ve come here to study nursing. Within 3 years or so, I’ll be a fully qualified nurse.” You spoke with confidence, proud of how you’d come along in life at such a young age.
Polly and you exchanged some more small talk before she excused herself to see what was taking Ada so long. You sat at the Shelby’s table, swirling the last bit of tea around in the bottom of your cup. A bang from the front room caused you to jump from fright, before you peeked around the corner to see what it was.
Coming down the hallway, were two men, both dressed nicely in their 3 piece suits and flat caps. The older looking man took his hat off and shook the rain droplets off it, having a laugh with his friend beside him. “Holy shit Johnny, did you see how fast that little maggot ran once he knew who he was speakin-” he stopped abruptly, standing in the doorway of the kitchen and staring at you.
Behind him, the other man ran into his back, which seemed to annoy him. “Fuckin’ hell Arthur, keep moving out of my way you idiot.” The younger of the two, John you presumed,  pushed past ‘Arthur’ and walked into the kitchen, also stopping when he seen you.
“Hi, I’m y/n.” Your voice was shy as you spoke, not sure who they were or what they were doing there. John took his cap off with a smirk on his face before he pulled the seat out beside you. You watched him with wonder as he sat beside you, you admired his features as he turned his head and smiled sweetly at you, his tongue moving the tooth pick that was between his lips.
You weren’t a stupid woman; you could appreciate a good looking man when you seen one, and John had definitely caught your attention, as well as yours his. “John,” he purred with his outstretched hand. You took it, and to your surprise John brought your hand to his lips and kissed it gently. You felt the blush creep up your neck to your cheeks and you giggled lightly at his boyish charm.
“Best calm down there John Boy, don’t want you creaming your pants.” Arthur laughed as he slapped John’s shoulder before he introduced himself as Ada’s brother.
‘Ada never told me she had brothers,’ you thought to yourself.
“Oh for God sakes boys, back away from y/n and leave her be.” Polly shouted at the two as her and Ada came into the room. Ada took your hand and pulled you to your feet, away from John whose eyes watched you like a hawk. “Come y/n, were going to be late.” she sent her brothers a glare before she pulled you towards the door.
“For the pictures hey Ada!” Arthur called, as he smacked his brother on the chest when they both followed you two.
“Eh brother, a Shelby woman and her lovely lady friend shouldn’t be going to such places alone.” John looked at you and raised his eyebrows before plucking the tooth pick from his lips, pointing towards you and Ada. “We’ll come with you.”
Ada groaned loudly muttering about never having any time alone before you and her linked arms and made you ways out of the house. “You never told me you had brothers Ada,” you whispered to her. John and Arthur were behind you both, so you had to keep your voice low. She grumbled out a response and so you decided to change the subject.
“So, tell me about this boy you fancy then”
That was 3 years ago. Your relationship with John had only grew from that day, though neither of you took it further than flirting and jokes here and there. Tommy’s business was on the rise, and the Peaky Blinders were busier than ever making sure ends met for the business, so you saw John less and less as the days passed.
Harry clicked his fingers in front of your face as he offered you another drink. You had finished your nursing studies yesterday, and you were now a fully qualified nurse. A drink or two was deserved considering how much effort you put into your career. Loud voiced boomed through the doors of The Garrison as Tommy, Arthur and John entered the room, laughing at something Arthur had said before they entered.
John’s eyes found yours instantly and his face lit up, excusing himself from his brothers before making his way over to you. He leaned down and planted a sweet kiss against your temple, before ordering a bottle of whiskey. “How have you been love?” He whispered to you as he pulled the seat out beside you.  “Good, I finished my studies.”
“Oh, that’s great! Will be nice to have someone around to stitch us up.” He joked, to which you laughed lightly. “Come into the side room and have a drink with us to celebrate, I know Arthur hasn’t shut up about missing you for weeks.” He thanked Grace when she handed him the bottle, before turning his attention back to you. “And you, Mr. Shelby? Have you missed me?” You teased, placing your hand on the outside of his jacket and turning your head on the side to look at him.
John chuckled as he took your hand in his, kissing it again like he did 3 years ago before pulling you close to whisper in your ear. “Every day,” he breathed, the goosebumps rising along your neck. You tsk’d at him, moving back to finish your drink before taking your purse out to give the money to Grace who was secretly watching the moment you and John shared. You liked Grace, she seemed pure - which is something Tommy needed after all that he’d been through.
John beat you to it though, and paid for your drinks, sending you his cheeky smirk you’d grown to love. John was near 4 years older than you, which is some of what stopped you from being with him. But it was mainly a mutual decision to stay friends, seeing as he was a Peaky Blinder and his biggest fear was his enemies finding out about how he cared for you and using you against them.
“I don’t want you to get hurt love, these men - they won’t show any mercy, not even to a woman. And i couldn’t live with myself if you got hurt because of me.” he’d whispered sweetly to you when you confessed to him after a year that you were indeed in love with him.
“I guess one won’t hurt,”

Tommy laughed loudly at you and Arthur’s drunken singing, clinking your glasses together as you went. You laughed loudly when both your glasses smashed on impact, alcohol falling on both your laps. “Oh shit Arthur, you ruined my dress!” You cried dramatically. Beside you, John was picking the glass from your lap, shaking his head with a disapproved sound coming from his throat.
“Right, best get y/n back to Pol’s place, there’s business to discuss boys.” Tommy ordered, noding to John. You and John stood, and you wished Arthur and Tom a good rest of the night before you linked your arm with John and left The Garrison.
It was a short walk back to Polly’s place, and you enjoyed the silence that settled between you and the blue eyed man that walked beside you. Before long, you were wishing John a good night and locking the door behind you.
***
You hadn’t seen John in 2 days after the night at the bar. You tried not to worry yourself, but Tommy did say they were discussing business - and business with the Peaky Blinders always meant trouble. You had occupied your days with helping Polly, going to the markets to gather fruit and vegetables for dinners she was making.
While you two ate, you listened to her tell you about her kids that were taken from her. You enjoyed her stories, even if they broke your heart with her. After you washed up from dinner, you were making your way upstairs when the front door was kicked open, and in rushed the Blinders.
“Y/N? POLLY? Come quick!!” Arthur yelled through the house. Your heart sank as you looked at the limp body that hung between Tommy and Johnny Dogs. “We found him like this thrown out front of The Garrison”
“John..” You sobbed, rushing forward and grabbing his face in your hands. His skin was cold, his eyes remained shut as his head flopped in your hands. You placed your ear on his chest, listening for any sign that the love of your life was still, by some miracle, alive. The faint drum of his heart was enough to have you in tears, which of course the boys thought it meant that they had lost their brother.
“No, no boys. He’s still with us. Quick, clear that betting table off and lie him down!” Scudboat threw all the papers off the table with a quick swipe of his arm, while Tommy and Arthur lifted their brother onto the table. Polly came rushing into the room and gasped, shielding Finn’s eyes before telling him to go and grab a bottle of whiskey and the first aid kit.
John was covered in blood, his right eye starting to swell and bruise. Blood was still running from his split eyebrow. Ripping his shirt open, your hands started to shake as you looked at all the cuts still slightly leaking blood. You tried to compose yourself, feeling along his ribs and counting in your head. “There doesn’t feel like there’s any broken ribs. There only seems to be cuts on his chest, no bruising which is good, means there’s no internal bleeding…” your eyes skimmed over his sides, and there on the left side was a gash.
“Finn, pass Tommy that stuff and go get me some towels. Polly, I need warm salty water-”
“A-already on it love.” she stuttered from beside you when she seen the cut across his side. “Arthur, I need you to wet that towel and wipe away the blood from his chest, gently, so I can see those cuts. Tommy, you do the same to his face.” The boys nodded and got to work. Polly helped you to tidy the gash on his side, and once the blood was gone you noticed that it was deep, but initially not as bad as you thought it was.
“By the looks of it, he’s been cut just under the skin, it hasn’t gone deep enough to be an issue. Whoever did this clearly just wanted to prove a point. It doesn’t need major medical attention, I can stitch it here.” John started to wake up after being unconscious, groaning loudly as his body registered the pain. “Here Finn, give me a shot of that Whiskey” John groaned, making the boys around you chuckle. You asked Polly to keep cleaning his side so you could stitch it, as you went up to reassure him he was okay.
“Hey love.” John smiled at you after he took a sip of alcohol. He reached up and touched your cheek, wiping away the tears that hadn’t stopped falling down your face. “John, you bloody fool.” you laughed and kissed his forehead.
It didn’t take long to have his side stitched up, and the cuts on his chest cleaned and sterilized. Pretty soon Tom and Arthur were helping him upstairs and onto the closest bed they could find.
“Who did this to you John?” Tommy asked.
“That fuckin’ little worm Billy Kimber had his men grab me, to ‘set an example’ that he wasn’t to be fucked with, Tommy.”
Arthur and Tommy looked at each other, and you knew by the end of the day, the men who grabbed John would be in a shallow grave. “Go boys, I’m find here. Y/n can keep me company.” You smiled sweetly at John, taking his hand in yours while you both watched his brothers leave, calling out to the rest of the Blinders that were sitting downstairs in the betting shop.
John did his best to pull you closer to him, and you rolled your eyes before lying down next to him. “Thank you, for what you did for me. I couldn’t imagine having to go to the hospital and having the coppas coming in trying to find out me business.” You snuggled into his chest, sighing in content. “I love you John, I’d do anything for you.”
You hadn’t realised it slipped out, but the words swam through John’s brain over and over. He knew you were in love with him, and he shared the same feelings back. But having them said out loud really reminded him that you were there, and you weren’t going anyway.
John leaned down and brushed his lips gently across yours, pulling back so your lips were merely inches apart. He breathed out a soft ‘I love you’ before finally connecting his lips to yours in a long overdue kiss.
