Life of a High School Vampire One-Shots 1 New Roommate
SUMMARY: Kai gets settled into his new school and meets his new roommates...
****************
Kai growled as he exited the yellow cab and walked towards the campus, adjusting his black sunglasses and gripping his suitcase tightly as it bumped across the stone path. He hated his family for this. He hated his father for forcing him to do this, hated his mother for agreeing to it, and hated his sister for not having his back. He didn't even do anything wrong. There was no reason to send him away to a HUMAN boarding school. His parents had given him a stupid lecture about how he needed to connect with people more emotionally, but he tuned out halfway through the lecture.
This was a stupid idea.
He didn't have to spend the rest of his teen years studying with his food. Vampires might not actually hunt humans anymore, but that didn't mean Kai didn't think of them as food. As he walked he looked at the tour brochure they had given him for this city and the school he'd be attending. Ninjago City was comprised of many skyscrapers, featuring billboards for advertising businesses. Within the city were small shops, lively subway systems, small arcades, schools, large banks, parks, cafes, and a vast sewer system.
On the streets were buses that drive around regularly, and many parked cars along the sidewalks.
The school he was attending was pretty unique. The school was called 'Everfree School for Gift Youths', or just 'Everfree' for short. The school only enrolled teenagers aged sixteen to nineteen and focused on not only preparing their students for college, but also for life outside of school. That's why they not only made their students have roommates, but they also charged rent, making the students get jobs. This is what worried Kai the most.
What human in their right mind would hire a seventeen-year-old, hot-tempered, allegedly emotionally detached vampire?
Fortunately, his parents had already paid his share of rent for the next three months, so Kai had plenty of time to find a part-time job somewhere in the city. He was dreading that. He had done a few jobs before, at his parents' suggestion, but he never lasted long. He could feel the few groups of students eyeing him oddly, but he couldn't bring himself to care. Kai sighed as he ran his hand through his spikey hair and looked up at the school he would have to call home for the next two or so years.
The large white building was huge.
From what Kai could see, the school had around twelve floors and seemed to stretch for miles. Kai couldn't help feeling angst as he went into the daunting building. When he stepped into the building he found himself in what looked like a large reception area that was mostly devoid of other people. The reception area was nicely decorated. There was a flat-screen TV hanging from the ceiling with some news channel on, uncomfortable-looking chairs made of plastic set up in rows, tables with old magazines on them.
A young, but plain-looking receptionist with her short blond hair held behind her head by a red headband, sitting behind a desk.
She looked extremely bored. She then looked up, noticed Kai, and motioned for him to sit in a vacant chair.
"Someone will be with you shortly," She said in an annoyed tone of voice. Kai fidgeted nervously and looked around the room. It was deserted except for the receptionist, who never said a word to him after telling him to sit down. He didn't know how much time had gone by when a stern-looking nurse came out of a door next to where the receptionist sat and told him to come with her. She was in her forties with her hair pulled into a tight bun at the back of her head and had light blue eyes, and a fitted nurse uniform.
They walked down the whitewashed corridors and into the nurse's office.
He was instructed to sit on the examining table and the nurse started confirming his medical history with him as well his other information such as his full name and date of birth. The questioning went on, his health history, allergies, and so on. The nurse took his temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, and recorded them on her clipboard. After the examination was done, Kai was then led to an office where the principal, a man named Sensei Wu, met him.
Sensei Wu was an elderly man with a long white beard. He wore a white suit and a conical straw hat and carried a wooden cane around.
"Good Morning, Mr. Smith, please take a seat." He smiled politely at the teen and Kai reluctantly obeyed. "Now then, I know that this is a new experience for you, so I took the liberty of rooming you with two students who I believe will gladly welcome you to our school and help you adjust; their names are Jay Walker and Lloyd Garmadon."
"Can't I have a room of my own?" Kai asked and Sensei Wu frowned slightly, but it quickly disappeared.
"I'm afraid not unless we feel being in a room by yourself is for your own good, it is not something we do I'm afraid." The old man explained and Kai groaned in frustration. After signing the last bits of paperwork and receiving his dorm key, Kai grabbed his suitcase and went to meet his roommates...
****************
After going up the stairs, and getting lost for a little while, Kai eventually found the floor where his dorm was. After noting that the dorms on this floor were reverse to the dorms on the bottom floor, odds on the right, and evens on the left, he located the door to his room. The room he had was pretty big and seemed to be set into three sections. One section was very organized and decorated mostly green with a few comics scattered on the bed.
The other one was a little messy and was mostly dark blue, with comics, video games, and movie posters.
The other was completely bare aside from the bed white, pristine sheets. He saw his two roommates right away. One had long, blond tousled hair, and brown arched eyebrows with bright emerald green eyes that many people would state could sometimes glow in the dark. He wore a dark green jacket with a white t-shirt and black pants and black and dark green sneakers. The other had reddish-brown curly hair with brown eyebrows and light freckles with dark blue eyes.
He wore a blue jacket with a white stripe over a white t-shirt and blue pants with a comfy-looking orange wooly scarf.
They were sat on the blue bed, watching a video on the blond-haired boy's phone, and noticed him as soon as he stepped into the room. The blond one shot up with a big smile on his face, whereas the ginger one eyed him warily. But Kai expected that. While everyone he had seen so far was dressed in bright, colorful, casual clothes he looked like he'd just walked off the set of a Tim Burton film.
"Hey, you must be Kai right?" The blond teen asked as he extended his hand towards the vampire for a handshake. Kai eyed the hand for an awkward moment, not really sure what to do until it hit him and he suddenly grabbed the hand and started shaking it a bit too hard and a bit too fast.
"Yeah, and you are?" He asked when he finally let go of his roommate's hand.
"I'm Lloyd, and this is Jay." He smiled and Kai shot a look at Jay, who shrank back a little, still staring at him. "So, um, Kai, tell us about yourself; I mean, if we're all gonna be living together we need to know each other." Lloyd prompted nervously, not really sure what to say to their new roommate. Likewise, Kai didn't know how to talk to humans. In the end, he just blurted out the first thing he thought of.
"Well, my parents are pretty loaded with cash and they always want what's best for me and my sister, and I'm grateful for that but I can't sleep in my childhood coffin forever, you know what I mean?" He shrugged, trying not to show how uncomfortable he was. If they saw his hesitation, they'd go for the kill.
"Not really." Jay finally spoke, his voice filled with fear and Kai glared at him as an unpleasant silence filled the air.
"Uh, so, I'm sure the principal explained this already but rent is $264 a month, so that's gonna be $88 between each of us," Lloyd explained, trying to ease the tension. "You would also get free student parking."
"I can't drive."
"That's fine; Jay and I are really laid-back roommates, we don't party too hard but we are night owls."
"That's wonderful, I didn't know there was an anthropomorphic community in Ninjago City," Kai replied in genuine interest, only to become confused when both humans started giggling. He realized that they were not actually talking about literal owls and he was thankful that they thought he was just making a joke. He'd have to be more careful from now on.
"So is there anything else you'd like to know about me?"
"Yeah, you're not gonna murder us in our sleep or anything right?" Jay asked fearfully as he looked the brunette up and down.
"Um, no..." Kai replied, not really sure what to say to that. After they got the pleasantries out of the way, Lloyd and Jay helped him unpack and get settled into his part of the room. As he finished unpacking he noticed Jay still staring at him so Kai met his gaze. They both stood there staring at each other for a few minutes until Jay finally blinked and looked away. Kai barely managed to suppress and smirk and laugh. He was starting to think he really would like it here after all...

Prompt cause I can’t stop thinking of the art that was done: Anna has a horrible day with queen issues and she just needs Elsa to snuggle with her and calm herself down?
(A day? Hon let’s make it more angsty, shall we? Rise it to a week.)
=======
“It’s good to catch up with you guys.” Grinned Elsa.
Kristoff petted Sven’s nose after feeding him a carrot. “And it’s good catching up with you too!” He said in Sven’s voice.
The blonde chuckled. Kristoff cleared his throat and added: “It’s true, you know. Sven missed you as well.”
The reindeer nodded, and Elsa bent her head in awe. Olaf turned to Elsa, still bouncing in joy to see her. “Anna missed you even more. Like, a huge lot.”
“It’s been a long week for all of us, I see.” Smiled Elsa. “She hasn’t even got the time to send me a letter since last Friday.”
“She didn’t?” Briskly said Kristoff, and his eyes had widened. He exchanged a glance with Olaf, and their happy faces had suddenly faded.
“Oh.” Simply muttered the snowman.
“What?” Asked Elsa, and worry started to form in her. “What is going on?”
“Nothing bad happened”, assured Kristoff, who knew his sister-in-law’s natural stress too well. “She’s just… Very busy lately.”
Elsa stared at him. “…She hadn’t even send me a reminder for game night tonight. I mean, not that I forgot, I’m even early, but… Yeah, it’s not really her style.”
Olaf shook his head. “Nuh-uh.”
The Snow Queen gulped, trying to manage her worry. “Okay, I’ll see you later, I have to go check on her.”
“I thought you wanted to surprise her, and that’s why you came in the stables?”
“Yeah, didn’t you want to hide for when she’d go down and greet us after our day of ice harvesting?” Frowned Olaf.
She looked at him with a sad face. “Say, did she come to greet you at least one evening this week?”
The three of them suddenly pouted and winced. “No.”
Blood ran cold in Elsa’s veins, and it wasn’t in the normal way. She immediately turned around and crossed the courtyard to the doors of the Arendelle castle.
She ran so fast that she bumped over Gerda and slipped on the Great Hall’s floor. The servant grunted as Elsa grabbed the staircase railing at the last second to not fall.
“Careful! We just waxed the floor!” Gerda said to whoever just knocked to her.
“Well, that explains it”, muttered Elsa, trying to calm down her heartbeat.
She usually never slipped, especially on ice which she always walking on like regular ground, but here her ice sandals were sliding on the parquet like glass.
Gerda widened her eyes when she recognized the familiar radiance of white who was facing her.
“Elsa! It’s you!”
“Hi, Gerda.” Chuckled the blonde. “Sorry for coming in running. I know you hate it. I won’t run in the castle anymore, I promise.”
The maid put her hands on her hips. “Always in a hurry for some reason. Anna really is rubbing off on you.” She said, shaking her head as the woman she knew since her birth smiled nervously in front of her. “Oh, she’s in her study, if you’re looking for her.” Gerda added, one thought joining another. “She… She’s been quite busy lately.”
“So I’ve heard.” Gulped Elsa, and she was about to run the stairs two by two, but restrained herself right in time to go slowly.
She could feel Gerda’s eyes staring at her in her back as she went to the upper floors, but she could also tell that the servant was worried for Anna as well.
As Elsa walked with a fast pace in the corridors, her fists balling at her sides, a thousand questions turned in her mind: Was Anna okay? Was she eating properly? Was it because of Queen duties? Was it the stress? Not feeling like she belonged on the throne? Doubting about her role? Charged with complex paperwork? All those were topics of discussion they already had many times in the previous months. Was one of them coming back? Was it a new one this time?
Elsa shook her head as she reached the study’s ajar door.
She paused for a moment, thinking about the history of this room. She remembered when Anna and her were little and would burst in it to surprise their father as we was working, and he would pretend to be scared to make them laugh. She remembered how, after the Great Thaw, Anna had knocked and came with many different treats and lots of hugs to make her have some breaks in her royal paperwork days. And Elsa’s heart squeezed as she realized how, now she was living away, she wasn’t always here to give Anna back the love she received from her all that time. She chased her tears and entered.
Anna didn’t see her, too focused on the papers she was scribbling on. She was drafting letters, Elsa could tell, because her pencil was dancing on the pages and she was fidgeting with the rubber in her other hand, making it twirl and pass between her fingers, her elbow on the desk.
Her teal blue eyes were switching from one word to the other, and she was muttering to herself as she phrased her sentences.
Elsa smiled tenderly and knocked to the wood of the door.
“Yes, I’ll take another coffee, Kai, please. Black. I need to finish this before–” Anna said, distracted at first and then lifting her head, now meeting her sister’s eyes. “–ELSA!!”
She comically dropped her pencil and rubber on the desk in a loud way, and her eyes widened as the blonde stepped to her in with a smile. Anna blinked.
“Wha… What? When did you… What time is it?” She blabbered, looking at the little clock on her desk.
“I’m early.” Informed Elsa in soft voice. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“Are you kidding? No, it’s fine! It’s even amazing! I’m so happy you’re here.”
She quickly stood up, her chair’s legs scraping the carpet, and practically ran around the desk to jump into her elder’s open arms.
Elsa giggled above her shoulder, taking in her warmth, her joy, but also her smell that she missed so much. She couldn’t help but notice how it was accentuated with hints of sealing wax, blotting paper and coffee, and easily concluded that she spent a lot of time in this very room since they last saw each other. And she noticed that the hug was longer than the ones they normally had. She was craving it.
After a while, the blonde gently parted the hug.
“How are you?” Inquired Elsa.
“You first.” Smiled the Queen, who didn’t see how serious her elder was.
“No, I insist, Anna. How are you. What’s going on. You barely went out this week.”
The redhead pouted a bit, disappointed. “That’s a bit rude.”
“I saw Kristoff, Olaf and Sven before entering the castle. I know. They told me.”
Anna seemed shocked that they had told her, but another emotion passed on her face, detected by Elsa immediately: she was heartbroken to not have seen them as often as they deserved. The younger looked down, and her silence was un-characteristic.
“Hey, hey, I’m not reproaching anything.” Assured Elsa on a soft caring voice. She took her hands in hers. “Are you okay? That’s all that matters to me.”
A smile stretched Anna’s lips. “I know.”
She shrugged. “I’m just… Very busy.”
“Okay, it’s the third time in a row I hear this of you. Can you be a bit more precise?”
Anna didn’t know where to start with. “Letters for foreign countries, now that we have all those new trading contracts. Writing said trading contracts. And writing to the foreign officials again. And meeting scheduling. And organizing the venues. And there’s all those new inhabitants. Oh, and we have those celebrations to welcome them, and–”
“Breathe.”
The redhead interrupted herself, thinking Elsa had something to say, and once she registered the advice, took the time to actually catch her breath.
“Anna…” Muttered Elsa, bending her head, and her hands squeezed her sister’s. “I told you many many times that you can ask me for help day and night, you just have to send me a letter, I’ll interrupt everything and come here to guide you, you just–”
“No, no, no, don’t give me that look.”
“But–”
“Huh-huh.” Glanced Anna with a frown and a head shake. “I’m 22, I’m fine, I can handle myself.”
“That’s obviously not what I meant, I’m not treating you like a child, quite the opposite… I just… Please, you always tell me that we should never shut each other’s out. Well, I’m here for you, and you deserve- You should ask me for assistance if you need it. Not overwork yourself.”
“I’m fine, Elsa! Really.”
She had a knowing smile. “Besides, you’re not one to talk. You were on your own for three years, and had to handle all the queen issues alone.”
Elsa frowned. “What? What are you talking about? You were always there for me. Always supporting me.”
“I didn’t mean the three years after the Great Thaw. The three years before. After… After Mama and Papa died at sea. And you became Queen overnight.”
The elder blinked. This seemed like centuries ago. Like another life. She barely believed that it had happened.
“Oh. Yes.”
“See? I have all those years to compensate.”
Elsa was shocked. “Are you saying that you’re purposely working on your own so that we’re even?!”
“Of course noooot, you silly!” Smiled Anna, nudging her arm. “It’s just… I want to be a really good Queen, and the more I’ll practice on my own…”
“Anna, that’s the most stubborn, stupidly obstinate thing to do!” Scolded Elsa.
“Hey.” Frowned the younger.
“You shouldn’t… Oh, you dork.”
“Nhgn” Was all Anna could say when Elsa tackled her in a sudden hug.
Her eyes widened, surprised by the gesture, which was unusual coming from Elsa. The Snow Queen normally was the one welcoming the hugs, not giving them. She felt her hands rubbing her back.
There was a silence, and Anna’s weight in Elsa’s arms seemed to grow. The latter could tell that she was enjoying the hug more than she admitted. She held Anna tight.
“I’ll stay all weekend.”
“Wha–?” Started Anna on her shoulder. She was about to step back to look at her, but Elsa kept her firmly against her.
“Please forget about every issue starting from now. We’ll make it a relaxing weekend, okay?”
Anna didn’t know what to say, and her throat tightened with emotion. Or maybe it was Elsa’s strong embrace.
“I… Okay. Thank you.”
The Queen slowly stepped back and put her hand on Elsa’s arms. “I missed you.”
“Me too.” Smiled Elsa.
Someone knocked at the door. Both sisters startled, and turned to the entrance. Kai was standing on the threshold, holding a tray with a steaming coffee mug.
There was a silence as they stared at him. “I brought you another coffee. I figured that…”
“You did well.” Smiled Anna, assuring the man that he was welcome in the room, which he seemed to doubt of.
“Hello, Elsa.” Saluted Kai, smiling at the elder when he approached. Elsa nodded with a smile as he put the mug on the wood of Anna’s desk.
“Thank you.” Said the redhead.
She was about to take the handle, but Elsa grabbed it and put the coffee mug in her hands.
“No, wait, don’t cool it down!” Jolted Anna. “I prefer it piping hot. I really need it right now.”
“You’re aware that my magic isn’t linked to my emotions anymore, unless I want it to. It won’t get more fresh if I touch it.”
“I know that. I thought you were going to blow on it to make it colder for me.”
“No, I actually really need a sip right now.”
On those words and without further warning, she drank a long sip of the coffee under Kai’s amused eyes and Anna’s outraged gaze.
“HEY!!”
“Sorry.” Said Elsa after swallowing. “You really stressed me out earlier. Magic may not be connected to my fears anymore, that doesn’t change that I still have panic attacks.” She paused to look down at the black beverage. “Ahtohallan, I miss coffee in the forest, but yours is really strong.”
“I call it the Anna brew.” Smirked Kai.
“Are you two done? Can I please have my coffee back?” Grumbled Anna.
Elsa smirked as she gave her the mug, and the younger grunted when she saw the portion she took from it. As she gulped the rest of the coffee, Kai bowed and exited the room, leaving the door open as Anna always requested it.
The blonde watched how quickly her sister finished her coffee.
“Waow, you really needed it, uh?”
Anna exhaled loudly after drinking. “Yeah.”
She smirked to Elsa. “Now I have all the energy to beat you tonight.”
Elsa’s eyebrow lifted at the challenge. “You seem to forget that it’s draw-and-guess this week.”
Anna’s smile vanished. “Oh, shoot.”

( MYOUI MINA | CISFEMALE | SHE/HER ) you’ve heard of holly ikeda ??wait, really ? they’re the quiet intern who’s way too obsessed with gaming, ballet, & coding. somehow, they managed to major in electrical engineering in college. i think they’re twenty one. they’re the kind of crestfallen that enjoys musical plays, intricate computer problems and searching for new restaurants & foods. some people told me they’re supposedly pretty intelligent, open minded, & obliging. but i think they’re just blinded by a pretty face. they’re clearly standoffish, shy, & self-destructive. their favorite thing about buzzfeed is the data.
you guys are so fast my old eyes (and schedule) can not keep up ! this is a queue (late too bc who am i kidding anymore lmao) and i’m tori!! catch some facts about my baby girl under the cut and like this post if you wanna do some plotting tysm!
holly was born early 96 in houston, TX, to immigrant parents; by her birth registry her name is akane ikeda (literally means red yall), but only her family ever uses her japanese name tbh -- bitch have to fit in and stuff, so ! call her holly. only holly thanx
her parents were lq tiger parents tbh? she started ballet classes when she was about 4 or 5, and a few years later started cello classes too. always top of her class in her private school. the pressure wasn’t outspoken, but it was there, or at least holly always felt it & followed it perfectly
she has an older brother who was like?? her hero??? he is about three to four years older than her, and they always tagged along, from sports class to school and musical classes, etc. while holly never was popular, and was more of the outcast, quiet and meek, but with kai (her brother), she was the most comfortable and bubbly. said relationship continued up to their teenagehood!
that’s when all the nastiness of young age comes along. kai starts drifting apart to hang with his pals, always either in his room or in some of his friend’s -- if he was alone, he was snappy and angry, and if he was with his friends he was quieter, more careful.
holly only found out wtf was going on when she was 14, turning 15, when she, too, befriended kai’s friends -- rather, one friend, the imposing one. alistair was the leader of the boys and he was the first in years to take actual interest on her. it took little for her to completely fall for him, innocent and trusting and needy; during more or less two years they dated, and he taught her a lot. she wasn’t out of her shell fully, but it was easier for her to laugh and interact with others, always tagging along her boyfriend and their little gang, making a lot of his interests her own as well and giving some of hers up (dancing the most, some of the outstanding in her grades, her cherry). because that was what they were, and she was not only “the first lady” but a big part of the brains: while alistair made the plans and confided them (partially) to her, she did all the online bits with the coding, the hacking whatever information necessary, to getting them where they wanted.
she was nearly 18 when they planned the biggest heist, one directed to the government. she was to stay behind and use all kinds of servers for them not to be traced and all netizen bs, and so she started before the power went down. her parents had turned all off and turned them in -- minus their children who were involved. without holly’s backing and with the ikedas turning the crew in, the boys got caught & holly did, too, in her own way: the gang, alistair included, were arrested, and kai shipped off to learn his way back in an uncle’s house in japan. holly thought that’d be for her too, but instead her parents opted by keeping her close, under their reins. and for the first time in her life, she fought.
while she would still get good grades and even get into a good college, a major was picked out of spite -- so unlady like, so out of the norm she always felt imposed on herself; days she left home early and arrived at dawn were not little, nor were the ones she got home filthy drunk. she was still quiet, but the softness that was in her seemed to have melted under the fire of her anger. often she tries to break out of this image she has received, from the way she started to dress herself more sloppily, less preppy, more tomboy-ish (and...tbh?? like herself??), to the people she started hanging around (and fucking lmao), to her interests & to how, after over a decade, she has given up ballet (which is lq something she...regrets?? bc she loved it too but,,, #problematicfave)
she only has a few courses left to get her degree, and she decided to finish it away from home. 792 mi makes a great difference, especially when she was truly alone, out of her parents’ suffocating clutches. or is she? the whole idea for the internship in buzzfeed was her father’s, wishing for her to completely ignore her passion and follow a career in some office.
she picked the least serious one, again, out of spite, so when she got there she kinda...knew nothing about buzzfeed or of the trade and such? nor she had any interest, which she will now, almost six months later, still claim so but tbh...that’s debatable. she has always had some interest in food, in searching and trying out new stuff, and it shows not only on her searching browser but on how she has been working more with the tasty team, although she is not an official member or anything. if asked, she is just the one who suggests some recipes here and there
officially, she is still an intern and as such, she is there for every single problem: whatever it is, she often considers it below her, but does it diligently without any vocal complaint anyways. her most favorite parts of the work is IT work tbh -- if a computer doesn’t work, on the inside or some program or whatever
personality wise: quiet??? kinda brooding?? hq promiscuous and a bit of a drunkard, very into self destruction just because. she is the kinda person who is more in the corner, always quiet, often watching. there aren’t a lot of things that get a reaction out of her tbh. your average angsty sad fuckgirl young child who only wants to get drunk, fuck, sleep and do some coding (even though she is “forbidden” lmao @ parental power). she is also v fond of gaming (online games, such as league of legends the most), music (mostly classical and bubblegum pop) and cartoons (comic books & webtoons the most tbh) and uh ?? the color red??? she just loves tbh
what she needs??? love!!! self love, from others, to others,,,, poor girl,,,, truly, appreciate her and you’ll see her turn red and lq hq dying
also what she needs??? plots (give me a roommate pls) so hmu and forgive my late ass
