it stings. no, it burns. he’s dealt with pain before, and usually his solution is to promptly ignore it and keep moving. in his defense, usually he has to push it aside to complete his job or to get back to octavia. otherwise, he’s just terrible at bedrest. if he isn’t moving or working there’s a dread that settles over him that’s difficult to escape. he likes keeping his hands busy and will never be the type that remains in bed watching tv all day. he’ll also never be the guy who stands by when he could help someone.

even at the expense of himself ( sometimes, especially ). there’s a desperation that comes when he feels people push back against him. a knee-jerk reaction to a society that doesn’t want him and a world centered around his sister that clings to the desire to be good. to be a hero. to be someone like steve. ( more reasonably, someone like clint, but he finds himself staring at the super soldier thinking that could have been him in a different life ). “i can’t.” his teeth grit, forcing himself up despite how little he knows of alien tech. he’s sure he’ll be quarantined, and the idea of being experimented on makes him sweat more than the pain radiating through his leg. “you of all people should get that. we don’t back down from a fight. not when there’s something we can do.” he can barely walk, but he’d run through legions if it meant helping someone on the other side. “i can do it.”
