In the mid-1980s, animated adaptations of arcade games were commonplace— for example, Hanna Barbera's Pac-Man or Saturday Supercade's Q*Bert. Both of these shows, for lack of a better term, 'Americanize' the designs of the titular characters, so I got to thinking...
"What would a mid-1980s cartoon based off Rascal look like?"
Seeing as I've had prior experience in drawing faux animation cels, I decided to put that talent to the test and whip up not only a cel drawing but also a painted background for a scene for a hypothetical 1985 Rascal cartoon! 🍬🧡💙🧡🍬
(You can get a print of both the standalone cel as well as the cel overlaid on top of the painted background over on my RedBubble store!)

Styling Menhera more "Masculinely"
Recently I've seen more interest in how to wear menhera and related styles if you typically present more masculine, so I'd like to address that today. This post will sort of be a continuation of this ask, but instead of discussing particular brands we'll focus on how to style your coords to have a more masculine feel to them.
Firstly though, a disclaimer: this post is not a set of rules to be followed, nor a statement on what men/masc people should or shouldn't wear. It's simply a list of ideas that might help if you want to present more traditionally (?) masculine for whatever reason. I think part of the appeal of menhera is nonconformity and NOT trying to fit into what society expects, so please don't misinterpret this post as trying to tell you what to do!
With that out of the way, it's worth noting that the tops you wear will largely be the same. Of course, avoiding tops with a large amount of bows, frills, etc also helps, but other than that I believe that most tops can be styled in a masculine way. So like in any menhera coord you'll have a top wth vent art on it. Often it will be oversized, but a regular fit is also okay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sources: 1, 2, 3
I would say the biggest difference between feminine menhera styling and masculine menhera styling is the bottoms (and the impact this has on the overall silhouette). Where a feminine silhouette often uses short shorts/skirts/bloomers with OTKs and/or legwarmers, you’ll have an easier time going for a masculine look with longer shorts, joggers, other comfortable straight leg pants, or even jeans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sources: 1, 2
The silhouette will change a lot depending on what type of bottom you choose. Experiment with whether you prefer an overall baggy look (baggy sweatpants with an oversize top) or a contrasting baggy top with a (comparatively) tighter straight leg bottom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sources: 1, 2
While it's not necessary, some brands also make menhera print joggers/sweatpants if you feel left out of extra prints via OTKs. The ones pictured below are by SoftNGloomStyle on etsy
Tumblr media
source: 1
here are a few more examples of different outfits using the same/similar tops.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media Tumblr media
source: 1
You'll notice that I've mostly been using yamikawaii (dark color) examples. This is because it's a bit harder to make yumekawaii/pastels feel masculine. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try though!
Tumblr media
source: 1
Regardless of how you feel about Ezaki Bisuko, he provides us good examples of pastels in a masculine silhouette (I don't think I've ever seen anyone else do menhera polo shirts before? But this could be replicated with a button up!)
Tumblr media
source: 1
The pastels are more subtle on this one, but it still felt worth showing. Despite using a few more "feminine" accessories, this person balanced their outfit with the bottoms and layering for a more genderless feel.
Tumblr media
source: 1
Including this one to show something a little different: this features a male seifuku top! Just to remind you not to feel like you can't mix elements.
Finally, the last thing I'll talk about is accessories. Most menhera coords should only have a couple accessories and I would say this goes doubly so if you're trying to present masculinely. Keep accessories few and impactful.
One accessory I feel is overlooked in menhera is hats! If you're avoiding hair accessories and bows, hats are a good way to tie together an outfit as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sources: 1, 2
hats should be a fairly accessible option as well because
redbubble semi recently started printing on hats, so many menhera designs can be put on them
they can be diy-ed by purchasing a fitting patch or pin and adding them on
you could go even further by making your own design with fabric marker/embroidery/etc. because of the size, hats are probably an easier project than making a shirt design this way
to briefly touch on other accessories: you can use most of them, but be cautious. Overall most masculine coords I have seen use much more simple types of jewelry on their necklaces/bracelets/chokers/etc such as leather, chord, and metal and don't often feature large or elaborate decorations. Still, feel free to experiment with what works!

I just opened my Redbubble and Society6 accounts (see this post for the designs I put up), so I wanted to do a post with a little information about my experience with the two different platforms. Let me start by saying this isn’t really researched, it’s entirely anecdotal and just meant to be a little context for anyone else thinking of picking this up.
First, I made these for myself, I’m not really expecting them to go anywhere, and in fact I want to say that I ask you don’t get one of these if it’s just to support me (since I’ve had people ask), if for no other reason than because there might be a Much better way to do that soon (note: soon is extremely relative and optimistic, I just wanted to put that disclaimer out there). That said, if you like the designs, that’s really cool and I hope you enjoy them!
As far as Redbubble (RB) versus Society6 (S6), S6 is more aimed at “artists” (original, including stuff like photography), and RB is more aimed at fandom, so there’s a pretty big difference in content between both the sites but they’re both print-on-demand (POD) marketplaces where artists can upload their designs and anyone can get them on any merch they enable the design for.
As for quality: in my experience, S6’s base products (case base, shirt base, etc) are higher quality while Redbubble’s printing and resolution are higher quality, so it depends which is more important for you. I’ve mostly gotten clothes and stickers off S6 in past and cases off RB, so for this launch I ordered one of my own cases from S6 (I did say I made them for me) so I could directly compare them, which led to my judgment above. I got snap cases for the same model of phone from both sites.
RB: I’ve ordered two cases from Redbubble and one of them was great while the other (six~ months ago) was partially defective. The first one didn’t need buttons and worked just fine. The second did and one of the buttons was poorly cut out and constantly held the volume down. I had to take the case off (which was extremely difficult) and then snap the volume buttons off (both to make it even) and use a small nail file to widen the button hole. I could have just gotten the one in a thousand that happens to be defective, but I can’t not mention it when I’m directing people there. Magnet charging still works well in a Redbubble case but I wouldn’t trust a magnetic wallet or popsocket attachment to stay on. The camera also has so little protection I felt like I had to go out and buy a protector just for that (which luckily fit around it within the case). The prints for the Redbubble cases seemed to be good representations of the designs, but as they were both other people’s designs and I never saw the original resolution, I can’t for sure say how much was preserved.
S6: The S6 case is made of a little thicker/sturdier plastic, but covers pretty much all of the same areas as the RB case did for the same phone (which is to say, I’m still glad I have a camera protector). The S6 case doesn’t try to have buttons, which is less convenient than a case with working buttons on this model of phone, but the button cutouts are wide with plenty of clearance to avoid defects. However, I’ll be honest and say I’m not happy with the print quality. It’s pretty fuzzy. I know their laptop stickers are good, as are their shirts, so I think it’s just a phone case or size condensation thing (which is interesting considering they REQUIRE you to upload very large images). Do with that knowledge what you will. Magnet charging works just as well as RB, and again I would say not to rely on other attachments.
Oh also if you’re curious, from the artist side I think the cut from both sites is about breakeven. RB gives 20% but then takes a fee of about half of it unless they deem you Special, and S6 is just a flat 10% (if there are more fees, I haven’t found them, but I also just launched lmao). So yeah just use whichever site you prefer. I’ve always preferred Society6 in theory but I think I’ll go to Redbubble for cases now. I honestly might order a second colorway off Redbubble in the “tough” case sometime to compare them and if I do I’ll update and maybe take a photo (I don’t like taking photos). I was thinking of taking a photo of S6 print but then I put it on my phone (you know, my camera) and. it is very hard to get off (I am extremely weak) so I’m not struggling with it until I’m actually replacing it.

hey, can you talk about how fic commissions work? I'm not interested in getting into the market (I'm just not very good) but I'm super curious about the process
Well, honestly? I don't do it very often and I generally do it for charity. That said, I guess these days I'm saving up to renovate my bathroom to make it more accessible (take showers without risk of death 2023, tbh) so I might be open to putting the proceeds towards that. lmao
My usual process is to set a price per word (I try not to let it slip beneath minimum wage, tbh, so usually $10-$15 per 1000 words, perhaps more if it's a tricky subject) then if someone wants a fic of a certain length, they can contact me and we can work out the details.
I tend to get uhhh carried away with fic, so I don't charge them extra if I go over however much they asked for, but I do charge them! Typically I don't ask for any money until after I'm done. I've never been unable to complete a fic, but like... I guess I do feel more comfortable not taking the money until I have the goods in hand, lmao. I have a whole cornucopia of chronic illnesses, so I fully understand that shit happens.
Like I said, I mostly do this to raise money for charity, so then after I've told them I'm done, I wait until they give me proof of their donation to the charity of my choice, then after they show me that, I'll upload the fic. (Or send it to them privately, if they prefer.)
That said, I'm not like... some professional fic writer. I'd feel kind of uncomfortable with that anyway, though personally I don't feel like it's that different from selling fanart. I'm picky with the commissions that I take, relatively speaking. There are certain kinks I won't write, and I won't write NOTPs or pick up a new canon to write for or something. So I'm not a total pen for hire. More that if anyone in my existing fandoms wants to see something specific from me and they want to put some money towards a good cause, I'm willing to discuss terms.
Truthfully, it still feels very weird to talk about these things openly...? I grew up in the disclaimer generation, haha. I guess I've mellowed out, though, as I've seen literal Disney fanart sold at Artist Alley. (For the younger users here, Disney was always notoriously litigious about their copyrights.) It still feels weird, but as long as negotiations, etc. take place fairly covertly, I don't feel like... morally bad about it. Pretty much every piece of WWDITS merch I own came from Etsy/redbubble, so it'd be kind of hypocritical to treat fanfic differently, imo.
I've also done origific/nonfic commissions and translation (J-E) commissions, and I don't care who knows about that. lmao. That's just a normal fucking job.

How are we midway through March?
Good morning everyone, and happy Monday! I hope you all are doing well today. I woke up super tired on Sunday, not realizing that it had been Daylight Savings Time. Why do we still do this to ourselves? Asking several politicians for a friend.
Before we get too far into today’s news and updates, here’s this week’s schedule:
Tumblr media
The Mood and Composition Class
I’m still working hard on the mood and composition class that I’m putting together. Last week, I finished the color keys that I was working on, and now I’m onto doing the final sketch pass for the large illustrations, which will all be available at high resolution for Ko-Fi members for free. (They’ll also be available for sale in my shop). Here are the color keys:
Tumblr media
As you can see, I didn’t add hair or features to some of these, and the thumbnails are mostly flat blocks of color. I did this mainly to makes sure I was getting the mood I wanted from the piece, and these were just quick studies to make sure that this is moving in the right direction. I’ll talk more about this in the mood and composition video when I get to how I handle my drafts. A lot of what goes into this isn’t figuring out the colors so much as figuring out the values, and choosing colors based on that. Here’s the same sheet, laid out in values:
Tumblr media
As you can see, the values make a lot of sense in this regard. The snow one is one I’ll have to tweak these night scenes for, but I’m largely happy with the value range I have in these. Color keys like this save so much time when you’re trying to make a decision on a color palette, because you can color and flat the entire thing in a fraction of the time that it takes to make an entire piece. Now, I can go into the bigger pieces with more confidence and have an idea of what I want these pieces to do.
The script is mostly typed up, so the largest hold up with this class is finishing the art and recording the video. I’ll do my best to get this out by Friday, but if it’s not ready, I’m not going to rush the artwork, either. If it’s not ready, I’ll be putting up a speedpaint of one of the pieces.  I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve announced this class, and I’m sorry for how long it’s taken me to put together! It’s a lot of information and a lot of demo to record.
Ko-Fi/Sub Rewards — Wallpapers
As a gift for missing the last month’s wallpapers, I’ll be rendering all 16 of these and putting the high resolution wallpaper files up for you all to download for free. They’ll also be going into the store as singular downloads, or as a pack of all of them to download. I may also augment some of these a bit in order to turn into merch, and put them up on Redbubble/in my shop. Again, I’m hoping to have them done by this Friday, but if not, they’ll be done by the end of next week for sure. Keep an eye out if you’re interested in these!
St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s day is my husband’s birthday! As always, I like to keep my weekends open in case I want to play games with stream or if I have a special event coming up, but I think this weekend I might largely be away from the PC and unavailable in order to properly celebrate with him. It’s been a really hard start to the year for both of us, so I’m hoping to give him a good weekend and make him feel like it’s a good time. If anyone wants to reach out on the Discord, let him know you’re thinking of him! He’ll appreciate it. Speaking of, if you’d like to join the discord, you can do so here — just let us know how you found us. (He’s LegendarySapling in there, one of the mods with his mascot as his icon.)
I think that’s everything for this week! As always, I hope you all take care of yourselves. Drink your water, and do what you can. Love y’all. (Also, a friendly reminder: If you'd like this newsletter directly to your mailbox, you can sign up here.)

I’ve never done this before so here we go! It’s so confusing being a queer and non binary/trans teen that’s uncomfortable with their body because any kind of stimulation ends up making me overwhelmed and uncomfortable and spirals into me questioning my queer identity entirely! I want to prove to myself I’m queer and do what all my peers are doing... but it always makes me feel a little ashamed and just upset. Any advice at all would be so kind thank you so much! -🍊
Hi there dirtling, I'm sorry I didn't answer this when it came in, it's been a hectic few days.
The first thing that I want to say to you is that you do not need to look or act a certain way to be queer. If you identify as queer/LGBT+, you are inherently queer. However, I totally get wanting to show your identity in the way that you present, so let's brainstorm.
You raise an interesting point with sensory overload and becoming overstimulated. I can totally understand how cutting/dying your hair, wearing jewelry, etc might be too much for you. The great news is that there are tons of queer people out there that struggle with similar things, and I'm hoping that some of them will see this and chime in. I will admit that while I do have sensory processing issues, they aren't the same as yours, and so I apologize if any of my suggestions won't work for you.
I think that one easy and relatively cheap way for you to show your identity would be a pin with a pride flag and/or pronouns. I suggest a pin because you can put it on your backpack, coat, or jacket, where it might be less bothersome to you.
Trans pride flag pin from amazon
Non-binary pride flag pin from amazon
They/them pronouns pin from amazon
He/they pronoun pin from amazon
She/her pronoun pin from amazon
Ask me about my pronouns pin from amazon
Trans pride pins on etsy
Non-binary pride pins on etsy
Pronouns pin on etsy
I generally try to steer clear from Amazon and support independent artists on Etsy, but Etsy pins tend to be $4-5 dollars more expensive and I totally understand that people have limited funds. I also like Etsy because of its huge variety, which is why I just included links to the searches "trans/non binary/pronoun pin" rather than linking to individual ones.
If you wear socks everyday anyway, those could also be great ways to incorporate pride flags into your look, even though/especially if you're looking for something under the radar.
Trans socks from amazon
Non binary socks from amazon
Rainbow pride socks from Amazon
You can also get prints on tons and tons of different items on RedBubble. If you have specific t shirt needs, then you can still get a ton of designs on stickers for your waterbottle/laptop/etc, phone cases, masks, mugs, hats, pins, travel mugs, and so so much more.
I usually try to give people options that are low/no cost, and I do recognize that all of the things that I've suggested do require money which can be hard especially if you're not financially independent/have a supportive family. If I can come up with other inexpensive options I'll reblog this with an update.
Finally, I'll invite anyone else to share strategies that they've found, especially ones that might be good for someone who gets overstimulated quickly.
I hope this helps,
-Reid

Caco, your artwork is absolutely incredible. The deluge of details!! The wet spots on the clothing just outside of the robe's reach! The reflections in the puddles on the ground! The reflections of the speeders in the air! The way the light hits and reflects in their boots! The shine of every single metallic piece in the shot! Would you ever consider putting that up on inprnt/redbubble so I could buy it? Or letting me pay you for the right to print a single poster for my own personal use??
Aahhhh, thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so happy you noticed the water spots on some of the fabric. :D I wasn't entirely sure how to paint those but I think they came out okay for the most part.
I'm honored you'd want to have this printed!
I did freelance illustration for a number of years, so now I only do art for fun, and I'm extremely fortunate that I don't need to make money off of it anymore. And while I must stress to anyone reading this that art is a lot of work and worth paying for (you obviously agree with me ❤️, but I've just dealt with many people who expect art to be cheap or even free), I'm personally happy to share a TIFF file so people can print this for personal use if they want.
I imagine Google drive might be the easiest way to do that?
Anyway, I guess if anyone else is interested, comment on this post? I'm on my phone and going to bed soon but if more than a few people want access I can probably share the file some time tomorrow.

Someone suggested this might happen in this scene I drew the other day. XD
Also, if anyone’s interested, I’ve slowly started putting some RNM art up on my RedBubble.

Food for thought 24
Note: I’ve spoken to my parents about my vent art and am feeling a lot better. I’m still a bit drained but going to try and pick things up and work on some christmas merch. Can’t say what kind of merch but if you’re interested look out on my redbubble
 - https://www.redbubble.com/people/palettepainter1/shop
Also does anyone know how I can make stickers of characters I don’t own?? I wanna make some MHA stickers of some of the characters but since I don’t hold copyright over them is it still okay? I’ve seen people make merch with the MHA characters so just wanted to check if anyone knew, is it really just as simple as not ticking the I hold copyright over the character/content box?
Okay note over, onto the food for thought post!
///////////////////////////////////
So can’t say for sure if this will become cannon, it was just a fun idea that came to me randomly a few days ago.
Ectoplasm’s mum being best friends with a lady in their home town that runs a sheep shop. After Chimu and Akarui are married and move house Chimu becomes a local at a quaint little sweet shop, where she becomes quick friends with the lady who owns the shop.
I don’t have a tone of ideas for her since as said I haven’t considered if she’ll become cannon in my MHA AU, I feel as though I’m overcrowding it with characters, but here are a few ideas I had for her
-Matching with the fact she runs a sweet shop she has a sweet tooth and a very grandma like personality, she’s the kind of person to slip Ecto and extra sweetie when he came to the shop with his mum when he was younger
-Small round and bubbly
-Her hair smells of strawberries
-Speaking of her hair is a fucking mess. It’s thick, frizzy and uncontrollable. She’s the kind of person to stick a pencil behind her ear or put her glasses on her head and five minutes later forgets where she put them cuz they’ve been submerged in her hair
-Knows Chimu’s and Ecto’s go to sweet orders by heart
-For her quirk I was thinking either the same quirk as Tiger (I forget the name) or maybe a quirk that’s hair related. Maybe she can control her hair freely hence when it’s always such a mess
-Probably has a super thrilling past despite running a sweet shop, was a part of some stunt show. Despite being small and cute she has whooped shop lifters butts with ease before and will do so again
-She doesn’t have any kids so is everybodys grandma
-Always has sweets or biscuits in her handbag, in case of emergencies
-Honestly she might develop a crush on Komori and Dangan-

Hi! I was just wondering if it would be possible to put a link to where we can buy ur art in ur bio? It might make it easier for ppl to find and get interested! Sorry to bother, love your art!!!!!!!!!
If anyone actually READ bios, and if there was space, maybe. That said, they don't. So y'all get to have the regular posts reposts and reblogs of my work that you added me for in the first place instead.
But let's be real here. If y'all order stuff and keep ordering it is about the main way that I will stop boosting posts, writing up giant text walls, etc. In short, keep me busy working, and you won't have to see me self-promo so often. Here's where to do that:
Or also here:
Or there's Redbubble, ArtofWhere, and a few others I'll add in when I reblog this later.

Thanks to everyone who joined me and Max tonight as we did horrible things with our art skills! I decided I want to get a face mask since redbubble are printing them now, so I designed a few tonight. This is one... I might put it up on redbubble or spoonflower as a pattern if anyone’s interested. If i put them up i’ll also do a few more skin tones
I need to mess around with how it fits on the face first though.
