Some s1 kids/kiddads art of an au im working my mind out on! basically a typical fantasy/faerun type au but my own little twist on it :))
heres some info cards about them in this specific universe as well as some rambling:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
im also probably gonna make one of these for the dads as well because this au has become some brainrot lol, i had a lot of fun designing lark and sparrows outfits because i always imagine oakvale wear being white gold and green so i kinda really leaned into with that. Nick as a tiefling is fun and silly to me teehee, as well as terry jr as a vampire. Its just a bunch of magical people and then grant lmao
i like terry and ron having a found family type of bond, and i promise ron will end up meeting samantha at some point lol, and i have a lot of notes about ron's character because of his background and everything, they aren't all supposed to fit into specific dnd archetypes or classes, but some of them like sparrow, nick, and terry have actual dnd classes lol, im really just fucking around with the loose concept of faerun, tbh i kinda see nick as both a bard and a fighter type of character? yk?
the necklaces with the single green bead that both lark and sparrow wear actually hold some cultural meaning for oakvale that im still working on, but i came up with the concept a while back so we'll see if i decide to talk about it
their stories do end up intertwining but this is the basic background info about their stories, and there will be more revealed when i get into making the s1 dads info cards as well.
terry and the twins probably took the longest to color and draw because of how many details are on both of them, especially terry's parasol bc i drew that without looking up a reference so i do hope it actually looks like an umbrella...nick was a bit hard to draw just because his face is partially covered and grant was actually fairly easy and i love how his design came out since ive been attempting to figure out a s1/teen design for him for a bit, obviously this isn't it because he's in fantasy attire but it's close enough that i have the gist of the idea..i made him look so pale lol, i imagine carol is pretty pasty and darryl isn't too tan either so...white boy is very white indeed
anywayys thats some of my funky lil au lol
(here are the dads!)

hmm do u have any particular scene or pose for future autumn/linda drawings im Scheming >:-3
Tumblr media
@jayferins you’ve just made my entire week
okay this one is maybe a little weird ?? but picture this: a jar. and inside the jar? a comfy sitting spot. some flowers. maybe some vines. lotsa nature. some mugs with tea or coffee or hot chocolate in them. whos holding the mugs? Autumn and Linda. do you see it? theyre living a nice cozy life in the jar, Jay. it’s beautiful.
obligatory They Deserve A Goddamn Nap And Cuddles because holy fuck do they deserve a goddamn nap and cuddles
in an au where theyre together and are in contact with Henry and Ron, i think they would want to learn about their sons respective fields and interests so maybe a date to the San Dimas History Museum :]
i also like to think they’d be close with their grandsons, i think that Linda and Terry would get along well as would Autumn and the twins and honestly vice versa so i think they’d have pictures of them all around their house (not sure how much that counts as a prompt but yeah)
and for a pose theres this one panel with Harley Quinn and Posion Ivy that is just so adorable. I envision Autumn as Ivy (literally just bc plant magic, i am basic) but rlly it could be either way and this pose is just so cute and sweet
Tumblr media
maybe them in front of and/or holding the lesbian pride flag? or the Pride pride flag? :3
I think Linda would want a cat but Autumn wouldn’t (idk she just doesnt seem like the type of person who would want to have a pet to me??)but they’d get a cat anyway with the understanding that its Lindas cat but bc i love tropes, the cat absolutely adores Autumn
I think Linda would name the cat Sprout maybe, honestly im open to name suggestions for the cat
I think that Autumn might take a lot of candid photos of Linda
Dancing! That is all
”She asked for no pickles” - Autumn
Maybe Linda braiding Autumns hair (and/or vice versa!)
Autumn wouldn’t want a pet but i think she definitely has a lot of plants and flowers and regularly gathers bouquets for Linda
oh Sprout (the cat) might eat Autumns plants a lot so they have beef (not really, just like the silly kind)
Them in suits or dresses, I can honestly see both of them wearing either
Them as the Barbie mugshot meme, i think Linda would be Barbie and Autumn would be Ken but i can also see it the other way so 🤷
a picture of them with that one news headline like “DOES KINK BELONG AT PRIDE? WE ASKED LGBT ELDERS AND THEY ASKED IF WE WERE COPS”
im so sorry this took so long, honestly i could still write more but i didn’t wanna make this like way too much lmao
and you obviously dont have to do all (or any!) of these, i do not expect that at all, these are just some ideas :3

I really appreciate how inviting your blog is! I wanted to ask what really draws you to Car Seat Headrest; what are your feelings about their discography? Any parts that you particularly resonate with? Also, super looking forward to seeing the lyric collages when you get around to them (I'm begging you to do the gun song eventually)
thank you so much!!! I really want to just share the love of music so I try to make things as inviting as possible, I’m really happy to hear it’s working <33
I’d say Teens of Denial is one of my favourite albums of all time and therefore the part of their discography that resonates with me the most, mostly since I discovered it when I was going through some Emotional Teenager Times so I hyperfixated on it lmao (especially the Ballad of the Costa Concordia and Cosmic Hero - I honestly think CH will always be my favourite CSH song mostly for sentimental reasons) and from there I kept listening. I also really like Twin Fantasy and How To Leave Town, but haven’t properly sat down and listened to the rest of the albums enough to form a good opinion I think ;;
ive got one small lyrics collage done here for Her Sinking Sun by coma cinema!! and I did a little art thing for Songs: Ohia but it doesn’t really count as a proper project since I used a pre-existing collage by the wonderful artist terry winters. I’m currently working on a bigger hozier collage for Angel of Small Death & The Codeine Scene, but will get onto The Gun Song As soon as I can!!!
thank you for the ask! <33

Catch up....
Hopscotch- A veteran CIA agent gets demoted unjustly to a waste of his talents desk job. He responds by announcing his intent to write a tell all book, and then leads the spies on a merry chase as he sends the completed chapters in. It looks like this fun game can’t have a happy ending....or can it?
This is a film I knew almost nothing about, but that turned out to be a delight. It’s a comedy and a thriller, but not a comedy in the big zany way and not a thriller that has bloodshed (even the bullets that are fired are aimed at unoccupied targets). Lots of fun!
Jabberwocky- A lad from the countryside heads to the city at the local castle to make his fortune and win the hand of his love, despite her distain of him. Meanwhile, the kingdom is being devistated by a giant beastie, but not everyone is eager to stop it. The merchants have actually found the situation hugely profitable, but the dottering king has to do something. The something, so he decides to have all the knights take part  in a battle to the death competition to find someone to send to kill the creature.
What, send ALL the knights to take on the monster at once? Are you mad? Stories never work like that!
And generally speaking this does function in traditional style. Our under class hero sets out on that journey for your usual reasons (love, money, proving himself) and has a series of minor adventures before finding himself in the unlikely position of hero. But unlike the typical hero he’s more a Candide type, cluelessly bumbling his way through it all. And let’s just say, not everyone wants that fairy tale happy ending after all.
I love every Terry Gilliam film I’ve seen (and I’ve seen ‘em all I think!) but I remembered this one as being a lesser one. It was his first solo film, but actually it looks amazing. I started to say gorgeous, but considering the level of filth that would be silly. Narratively it wanders about, but I think I kind of works as part of the deconstruction of the fairy tale, pointing up the absurdity of the hero’s journey. Of course, it does work better if (like me) you are the sort to embrace the moment without concern for where it fits into the story as a whole. And it’s not quite as funny as it might want to be. Still, I think I enjoyed it much, much more on this rewatch!
Mary Poppins- In a household with a uptight workaholic father and a mother into being a suffragette...which for some reason we are supposed to think as silly instead of a heroic activity..... a new nanny is called for because the Bride of Frankenstein (well, the actress played her!) has had enough of the supposedly naughty, but actually completely average, kids. Along floats, literally, a nanny who is smug, arrogant, politeness masking a sense of superiority, and some sort of magic user. She clearly cast a glamour to cause everyone to fall in love with her no matter how cooly judgemental, bossy and  full of herself she is (seriously, she declares herself “practically perfect in every way”). No sooner has she walked in than she spirits the kids off to a place theor parents couldn’t have found them, just so she can go on a sort of date with her jack of all trades but accent from nowhere boyfriend. She will make life interesting for the family, but has no staying power as an employee.
Alright, I’m going to make a shocking confession: I have never been fond of the movie.
It’s well made in a lot of ways, I’m not disagreeing. It has catchy songs, lovely ideas (leaping into chalk drawings, floating because of infectious laughter, etc), beautiful visuals (Peter Ellenshaw’s matte paintings....yeah, I’m sad enough to know that off the top if my head! LOL...are dreamily pretty), energetic performances....but I just don’t care much for the film.
You might have guessed from my description in the summery, I am not fond of the title character. I won’t rant on and on, but will point to the final straw when I was little. The so called heroine denying she has taken the kids on a fanciful trip when they talk about out later just pushed my buttons! Someone telling the truth (the kids) and having that truth denied by someone with more power (by that nanny), or just not being believed, is something that has enraged me since I was tiny. I hadn’t warmed to her before then, but after I had no use for her at all. And, honestly, dislike hadn’t lessened at this rewatch.
I’m not saying that the fact I can’t stand Mary (insert choice profanity) Poppins the character is why I have always been cool to the film and think people that call it “Disney’s Masterpiece” are a bit strange. But it’s certainly part of why I will never, ever understand why it’s one of the most beloved films if the Walt era.
Still, there are good things about it and it doesn’t make me really angry like a certain other “Disney Classic”. That’s reserved for a film where parents decide that as part of a divorce they should each get one kid and then NEVER TELL THEM that they have an identical twin sibling. Then that unnamed film goes on to suggest that kids actually can get their divorced parents back together and that this is a good thing despite how hideously selfish they were in the way they split up their kids!
Yeah, I’m cool to Mary Poppins, but I HATE The Parent Trap! LOL ***
**For instance, I’m STILL angry about the adults being patronzing asses to Big Bird over Snuffy!! “He’s telling the truth!!!!” They fixed that, but only after they realized kids understood Snuffy was real AND that the lesson that “Grown ups won’t believe you if you tell the truth.” was the lesson kids were getting. Unfortunately, by the. I was no longer in the target demo.
*** There are a lot of Disney Live Action films I loved growning up. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Escape to Witch Mountain, Darby O’Gill and the Little People, Freaky Friday, Treasure Island, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Dr. Syn alias the Scarecrow, The Cat From Outer Space.....it’s just I think I would even rather watch The Black Hole than the two mentioned above....and I came out of the script challenged spectacular grumbling as a child.

Introductions
Tumblr media
Greetings friends! Before I kick off this blog with the reviews, I wanted to introduce myself a little bit. A bit of information can already be found in the Q&A section, but I wanted to say hi on a more personal level. If I’m at all honest, I don’t really like talking about myself, so bear with me.
My personal life
For starters, my name is Natalie. I’m an American living abroad in Glasgow. Originally I am from Kansas City. I’m in a poly relationship with a wonderful boyfriend and a fantastic wife. I’ve got three cats (two of whom are named after Doctor Who characters), and I’m the proud mother of two cacti named Bruce and Willis. I’m also transgender, with she/her pronouns, but let's not make a big deal of it.
My background
My background is in film and animation, but I do neither as a profession. I also like to draw and paint. My history as an artist has led me to make a lot of Twin Peaks inspired memes, many of which I will share on here. I’ve also studied creative writing and art history to a small degree. Currently, I’m writing a Doctor Who book. It stars the 8th Doctor.
Other interests
Outside of a near fanatical devotion to both Twin Peaks and Doctor Who, I have a wide range of things I’m passionate about. My favourite writer is Terry Pratchett. I am currently reading the entire Discworld series in order. At the time of writing this, I am up to “Night Watch”. I’m also really into Marvel comics. My favourite heroes are Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), She-Hulk, and Silver Surfer. I also love Babylon 5, which I may review on here as well, someday. Beyond Twin Peaks, I’m also a massive fan of David Lynch. To me, he’s one of the greatest artists alive today. On a more humanitarian level, I have a big passion for charity work and activism. My attitude is very leftist in most parts of my life. I want people to be happy, fed, clothed, sheltered, educated, and free to be themselves.
History with Doctor Who
I grew up mostly ignorant of Doctor Who. It wasn’t very prevalent in America in the 80′s and 90′s (I know, I’m old!) but I do have vague memories of seeing it on PBS. For many years, if you’d have asked me who Doctor Who was, I would probably say “Is that a James Bond thing?” I could recognise Tom Baker or a Dalek, but not tell you what they were from. It wasn’t until around 2011 that a friend talked me into watching the Paul McGann movie. It was the first big love I ever got into as a woman, so it’s got an extra special place in my heart. The fact that the Doctor is now going to be a woman is very exciting.
History with Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks was another one I came to late. When it initially aired, I was nearly seven years old. It would have been too scary for me back then. I did, however, watch Eraserhead with my uncle around the same time! If you’d have asked me what Twin Peaks was back then, I’d have probably confused it with Northern Exposure. It wasn’t until I was 18 when my friends were watching Fire Walk With Me on TV that I took an interest in it. It was one of those shows that was perfect for me at the time. I still live by Cooper’s advice of “Every day, once a day, give yourself a present.” The show is the closest thing I have to a religion. Watching it back then was extremely difficult as well. No Netflix, no Amazon Prime, there weren’t even any DVDs of it yet. For a time, all I had was a friend’s mom’s original VHS recording that was incomplete. I finally found the episodes on VHS at my local video store. Times were rough! Eventually, the DVDs came out and streaming happened, but for a time, it was a quest! Obviously, when I heard they were making a third season, I was elated. I cried. And honestly, for a while, the new series ruined my life. I had to watch it when it aired, which in the UK meant staying up until 4 am! I was a walking zombie during the daytime. We’ve all got our Twin Peaks theories, and I’ll be sure not to spare you any of mine. ;)
Favourite Doctors
I have tried so many times to widdle it down to a top three, but it’s becoming increasingly impossible. I will say that the ones that often hover around that spot are Tom Baker, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Patrick Troughton, and Paul McGann. I’m hoping Jodie will make it even harder for me to choose!
Favourite “TARDIS Teams” (Just for fun)
First Doctor- Ian, Barbara, Susan
Second Doctor- Jamie and Zoe
Third Doctor- Jo Grant
Fourth Doctor- Leela and K9
Fifth Doctor- Nyssa, Tegan, Turlough
Sixth Doctor- Evelyn Smythe
Seventh Doctor- Ace
Eighth Doctor- Lucie
Ninth Doctor- Rose
Tenth Doctor- Donna
Eleventh Doctor- Amy and Rory
Twelfth Doctor- Bill
Well, that’s enough for now. I’ll have my first review up soon! I plan on comparing the two different versions of “An Unearthly Child”!

COASTAL PIGS
Coastal pigs are Jeff Kainz (JK), Scott Terry (ST) and Leigh Newton (LN). They just released their fantastic album, Becomes a scene, becomes the nothing, at House of TARG and we got to pick their brains about their history in the scene, their prolific writing approach, and ideal tour-mates (both local and not!). Read on and give the record a spin!

Latest Release: Becomes a scene, becomes the nothing (LP, Sep 2017)
Upcoming shows: Stay tuned!
SA: How did Coastal Pigs start, and when did you start playing together? JK: Version 1 existed from June – Dec 2014, me, Scott, Tom Werbowetski (drums) and Paul Stevens (bass gtr). We all lived in Quebec, centred around La Peche. I hadn’t played music for 12 years, this was a good re-introduction, then I moved to Ottawa, followed by this version of Coastal Pigs ending and followed later in 2015, by Scott moving back to Ottawa. By March 2016, I was better prepared to again, try and start a group. It had to be a three piece and wanting to keep playing with Scott, I asked if he would be willing to play bass guitar instead of 6 string. Like the good punk kid he is, he swore and kicked at me, and with a smile said, sure. Leigh, I would see him every so often and would bring up the idea of playing together, which he liked, along with the dormant name. I eventually got to a place where I felt ready and arranged a rehearsal, and it felt right, it felt great, Version 2 began. Having Leigh on board is something special, he keeps Scott and me in line, our attitudes fresh and is musically so smart, it pushes us all. Without Scott and Leigh, this wouldn’t exist.
SA: What bands or musicians would you say are the biggest influences on your sound? LN: I've been trying to take a really different approach to the drums in this band than just about any other I've played in before.  Trying to keeps things really simple, let the song speak for itself without punctuating every little shift in the music with a drum fill or whatever. Influences with regards to that approach would be Joy Division, Public Image, early Cure, Killing Joke, Sonic Youth, Spacemen 3... ST: limp biz........kidding: FAITH NO MORE, KILLING JOKE, SMITHS, MORISSEY, BAD BRAINS, BLACK FLAG. JK: As a kid, I watched The Lawrence Welk Show every week, and that made me want to play the accordion, and I got one, so, that got me into music when I was 6. It wasn’t necessarily about the music, it was the style, the entertainment with a smile. But it seemed like behind all those smiles, there was tension, mischief, secrets & mystery of other lives. I liked that. Smile, have fun, be professional, everything is fine…  I eventually began to play guitar and the first Clash album was a big influence. It sounded bad, in a great way, an honest way, in a way that made it seem attainable to a novice. From there, Keith Levene (PIL), Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), Eric Johnson (Archers of Loaf) and Sterling Morrison.
SA: Thus far in the band's career, what has been your biggest accomplishment? LN: Being featured in Brooklyn Vegan and mentioned on CBC Radio are both pretty neat but honestly, for me it's our high rate of productivity - lots of quality songs in a very short amount of time. I love that. ST: WE WROTE AND RECORDED OVER 30 SONGS IN A YEAR. JK: I would also say our productivity, which isn’t obvious from an outsiders view. Personally, it’s important and really shows off the talent, patience and resilience in Leigh and Scott. And it’s very nice being mentioned in the media, press when that happens. Friends being positive and supportive feels good.
SA: On the other hand, what is the biggest challenge you have faced, and how have you dealt with it? LN: The usual - trying to fool people into giving a crap about the band. ST:  THIS INTERVIEW....PREFER NOT TO SAY JK: The internal option of not doing it, not rehearsing, it’s an easy option, but, I’m still drawn to standing in a small room, with friends, turning the amps up loud and destroying my hearing for a few days. It’s an energy, it’s fun, and playing with Leigh and Scott is great motivation to keep producing and not caring too much about what my ears have to say. Playing shows, recording, sending out digital copies of an album, that’s all easy stuff.
SA: How do you guys approach the song-writing process? JK: For the most part, I’ll bring finished songs or ideas to rehearsal and we then start playing, that simple, straightforward. We only rehearse once a week, sometimes, every other week, so, not a lot. We’ve become very efficient, and I’ve loosened up a lot from past ways, giving the idea over to Scott and Leigh, let them at it, let them develop the song, it’s a real confidence booster, for me. It’s bouncing ideas around, trying things out, editing out what we think might be dragging a song or passage down. Keeping the lyrics tight, melodic, not overly repetitive. We have to like it and want to play it, or else it’s forgotten about and we move on to the next bits. Scott and Leigh both write songs, music in other projects, so, the 3 of us have a solid understanding of what we want to make happen in each song of ours. We draw from both our shared and different musical tastes, so, there is a good chance that we’ll land on something good. The Process, (insert smile).
SA: You guys are veterans now: what are your thoughts on the Ottawa music scene, from your beginnings in it until now? LN: I think it's great. ST: If someone walks into the scene now and says its difficult to break in, it isn't. The folks who whine its non-inclusive are dreaming. And fuck them. Ottawa is strong, inclusive, and very open to new ideas , it always has been. anyone whining has a chip on their shoulder. No one comes to our shows, all of our friends have kids and don't give a fuck. You can't expect to be loved right off the bat, regardless of anything. We've worked hard, we've networked, we've been at shows, we've played festivals. In some cases since the 80's. You can't expect the world to be your oyster if you just storm in with a manifesto. The scene in Ottawa is good, but its fucked. Do we care? No. do others? who fucking cares. Do certain people wish they could make more money off our backs? Probably. JK: It really is great, there is something out there for all tastes. It’s cyclical, all the good, the bad, the ugly, the positives, negatives, the danger, the safety, has always been there and every so often, different elements pop through and get some exposure. I’m sure if you spoke with musicians going back to the club days of the 50s-70s, you’re going to hear a lot of the same stories and issues, maybe peppered with a few more fist fights. Find the good, there is always good out there, and there is a lot more good than bad.
SA: You guys just released "Becomes a scene, becomes the nothing", your debut full length album, at House of TARG. What's YOUR favourite song off the record, and why? LN: On a Map because I think it's got the best vocal of any of the songs on the album. ST: Landlocked, by rivers. CP bottled essence. JK: Today, it’s Cut Gums, it has a great feel and energy and a good chug to it’s rhythm. There’s no place for us to hide in it.
SA: Also on the topic of the live show, what is the band’s favourite song to play live (and why)? LN: I like Skull Fuck Summer (non-album track) because it's easy and a lot of fun. ST: Skull Fuck Summer, it’s fun and catchy and reminds me of my misspent youth, throwing dirt on cars from the side of the Sir John A. Parkway. JK: Kill the Killed, which we’ve only just started to play live. It reveals itself and keeps on revealing itself, it’s a one trick pony with 4 packs of playing cards. And for me at least, it’s a challenge to play and sing. My talent as a young, frustrated accordion player didn’t fully transfer to playing the guitar, the subtlety of picking single strings and notes mostly escapes me.
SA: Now, a question just for fun: Your three dream tour-mates (active or defunct, local or global), who would they be and why? LN: Ottawa's own Expanda Fuzz because they're awesome and playing with them is a blast; No Joy because I think they're one of the best Canadian bands going right now; and then some really shitty-but-popular band like July Talk just to ensure that we'd be playing in front of a crowd. ST: John Coltrane, the music. Bob Weir, seems like a nice guy. Greg Ginn, seems like a total douche. JK: For a tour of the western provinces, I like what Leigh chose. For a few shows around the Newport Jazz festival, 1\3 of Scott’s choices, and for me, a Maritimes tour with Andy Kaufman, ¾ of Fugazi (Guy, Brendan, Joe) and Lester Bangs (all defunct). All of the down time around sound checks would be pretty interesting and fun, something it never usually is.
SA: Lastly, what’s on the agenda for Coastal Pigs moving forward into 2018? All the best, guys! LN: The songs that ended up on the album represent about half of what we've got recorded so I imagine more releases will be on the way. Hopefully lots more shows, hopefully some out-of-towners, maybe a video. We'll see! Thanks Pierce! Always a pleasure! JK: Writing, rehearsing, more releases, album , ep, whatever works. Live shows and some out of town shows would be good. A video? Yeah, what Leigh said! Thanks Pierce!
