Prince Aemon Targaryen was the third son of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and his sister wife Queen Alysanne Targaryen. He was named Prince of Dragonstone in 62 AD, being heir to the Iron Throne until his death. He was a dragon rider Caraxes.
As they grew, Aemon and Baelon became inseparable. When Aemon received his first wooden sword, Baelon was too young to accompany him in training; however, the prince made his own sword with a stick and ran to the parade ground to strike his brother. When Baelon was old enough, the brothers trained every morning; the brothers were good friends, they had complementary qualities and their fights were so fierce that they attracted spectators who encouraged one or the other prince. In 62 AD, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen granted Aemon the title of Prince of Dragonstone, thus recognizing him as heir to the Iron Throne; his older sister Daenerys had died two years earlier.
In AD 68, the kings announced the marriage of Prince Aemon and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon, daughter of Lord Rogar Baratheon and Lady Alyssa Velaryon, and thus Aemon's maternal aunt. Briefly, following the death of Princess Daenerys, the prince had been considered to marry his sister Alyssa, but Queen Alysanne strongly opposed declaring that Alyssa would be Baelon's wife.
On the seventh day of the seventh moon in A.D. 74, Lady Jocelyn gave birth to her daughter, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. The girl was large and fierce, with her mother Baratheon's black hair and her father Targaryen's light violet eyes. As the firstborn of the prince of Dragonstone, she was considered by many to be the next in the line of succession to the Iron Throne after Aemon.
Years later, Myriense pirates captured the eastern shore of Tarth. Prince Aemon would command the attack and jointly attack Lord Corlys Velaryon, his recent son-in-law. On the ninth day of the third moon in 92 AD, Lord Corlys and his fleet set sail from Marcaderiva, and Prince Aemon followed a few hours later on the back of Caraxes, after bidding farewell to his wife and daughter Rhaenys. The princess had just learned she was pregnant, otherwise she would have accompanied the entourage on Meleys. Hearing that, Prince Aemon said:
"In the fray? As if I was going to allow it. You have your battle to fight. Lord Corlys will want a son, I am sure, and I would like to have a grandson."
Prince Aemon arrived before the Velaryon fleet at Tarth and met with Lord Cameron Tarth, who had retreated to the mountain range that ran through the center of the island and had encamped in a hidden valley from which to maneuver spies. the myrienses. Prince Aemon met him there, and they both drew up plans for the attack; Unfortunately, the camp was sighted by one of the Myriense explorers. One of them fired a crossbow aiming at the Evening Star, missing the shot due to darkness and distance and skewing Prince Aemon. With the iron shaft entering his throat and protruding from the nape of his neck, the prince of Dragonstone fell to his knees and seized the arrow, as if trying to tear it away, but dying, struggling to speak, drowned in his own blood.
His death triggered a dynastic problem that led King Jaehaerys to decide that the heir to the throne would be Baelon Targaryen, Aemon's younger brother, overlooking his daughter Rhaenys.
He seemed to be a man with leader wood, it is a pity that he could not survive and that his daughter took away a right that he had just for being a woman.
