eeee thank you pal!
36. what’s the most you’ve reread a book?
oh gosh I adore rereading so I feel like this is going to be really hard to answer!!!! oh no!!!!
I’ve only been tracking on goodreads since I think 2014, so some of my older/childhood books wont have as many rereads as I know they should, BUT goodreads does let me sort my read shelf by how many times I’ve read books, and its telling me there are three books that I have read five times each since I started tracking!!
the first is actually one of the books I thought of when I saw this question - my school library had a copy and it became a favourite of mine (so there are definitely many more reads from back in school, since I graduated in 2012..!) and I actually now own two copies of it! the book is Whispers Through the Pines by Lynne Wilding!
the other two books with five reads are Runemarks by Joanne Harris (another fave from the school library!) and Wildthorn by Jane Eagland (one of if not the first lesbian book I ever read!)
I feel like I also would have a lot of rereads on both a little princess, and the mortal instruments series - they’re both showing up as four reads each, though I know there’s more that are untracked.
40. do you own any “rare” or “collector” books?
oooooh! I dont really think I do, actually? I have a couple of self-published books from cons and markets that are limited print runs, if they count? I also have a copy of lano and woodley’s book that originally only had a very small print run and therefore was resold at high prices online and I felt lucky to have found it in an op-shop, but I think they reprinted it for their reunion show and now mine is far less rare 😂
42. do you buy new or secondhand books?
both!!
I grew up mostly getting books from op-shops or garage sales, which I am always gonna love doing - its like a treasure hunt!! once I had an income of my own I did start buying myself new books, which is where most of my current collection came from, but since starting to pay for rent and bills I havent been able to afford new books often. nowadays I will occasionally splurge on a new book that I love, or save up to buy nice copies of my faves, but since joining the library I try not to buy new books if I havent already read them before. I have an ever-growing ‘want to own’ shelf on my goodreads that I send out in the holiday season as a wishlist but also use as a shopping list when I’m opshopping or at a book sale!

hey! since your book taste seems similar to mine, i was wondering, do you have a list of books (or goodreads account) that you haven't read yet but plan/want to?
THIS IS THE BEST ASK YOU COULD HAVE SENT TODAY! THIS IS LIKE A BIRTHDAY PRESENT!! BOOK TALK!! IMM SO HYPE RIGHT NOW!!!
okay so, first of im going to list all the books i got for my birthday today, because of course they are now also at the top of my to-read-list:
milk and honey by rupi kaur. i’ve actually already read two thirds of it and i think i started crying on page.....6? it’s poetry so it might not be what you were looking for when you sent this ask but im telling you: it is so worth it!
Hide by Matthew Griffin: I was actually at a reading of this book just a few days ago and not only is the author a very sweet and nice guy, but from what i have listened to, the parts that he has read out loud: beautiful. truly truly beautiful. it’s about an old gay couple, they are in their eighties, who have lived on hiding all their lives because of their relationship, and who now struggle with combining their way of life with the struggles of growing old, the struggle of accepting help from outside.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss: a fantasy novel that has been on my wishlist for years now probably, but this year is the first time that i actually remembered it in time hahaha so here it is. lying next to me. and to be honest? i dont really know what it is about? haha im going to copy the bookcover and just quote the part that made me want to buy it hahhaa “So begins a tale unequaled in fantasy literature - the story of a hero told in his own voice. It is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man’s search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend” I mean... that doesn’t sound half bad does it? hahha
then well.... i dont have it yet, but it’s on its way: King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard: the third book in the red queen series. And well.... maybe you’ve seen me talk about red queen on here before? im such a sucker for this series sjfdklnh I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
another important book is The Curious Incident (of the dog in the night-time) by Mark Haddon. It’s a murder mystery novel told from the perspective of Christopher Bone. A fifteen year old boy who has Asperger’s Syndrom. I’ve leafed through it and after give or take 30 pages I can say with 100% that this book is written with so much love and care and esprit that it just has to be on your reading list.
On my long term reading list, is a recommendation from my sweet sweet friend Ali: The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I trust Ali’s recommendations with my life, but all i really know about this book is that it’s about rich kids and murder? jsaldfnldknmh ask Ali herself @myparentsdidnotplanthis for more details
and hmm.... i can’t think of anything else at the top of my head? i’ll add to this post if i remember anything else, for sure!
thank you SO MUCH for this ask!
