Regarding the Fate of As Long as We Have Each Other

Dear Anons,

First let me say that I absolutely love your wonderful messages and compliments. They give me life and I treasure them and few things cheer me up more than a nice word or two about my fics and knowing I'm not just typing into the void.

I'll keep trying my best to answer asks if they include questions or bring up interesting points others might be interested in as well (in fact there are quite a few I have been putting off answering because I want to do it properly and that'll probably take an hour or two each, but I haven't forgotten about them!) and you can always message me with other stuff so I don't have to answer publicly (although admittedly it sometimes takes a while for me to reply because irl and anxiety), and I don't want to sound ungrateful, but please,

PLEASE stop sending me melodramatic asks regarding the fate of As Long as We Have Each Other. I get that you are impatient, but they aren't helpful and I got eight of them over the past ten days.

Don't get me wrong, a 'btw I still love that fic, will there be an update anytime soon?' is totally okay and appreciated, those are not the kind of asks I'm talking about.

Now I'm not sure if it's one anon or multiple ones, but my answer hasn't changed so let me copy/paste it from a previous post:

I have decided to finish A Pack of Two first,

Not because I love it more, but because it'll be a MUCH 'shorter' fic than ALaWHEO and I simply cannot keep switching between feral!Wille pov and official boyfriend!Simon pov, especially because both have a very narrow pov and are only aware of like a third of what's going on, and it's driving me bananas.

So yes, As Long as We Have Each Other is going on a short break, but I will definitely get back to it once APoT is done because I'm as enthusiastic about the story as I was on day one, maybe even more so.

ALaWHEO is my favorite fic across all of my fandoms and my baby, but I simply cannot write both it and APoT at the same time. I thought I could or else I wouldn't have started APoT, but I can't and so I had to make a choice.

If it helps, both my notes doc and my outline for ALaWHEO have grown significantly over the past seven weeks and it will definitely end up being over 400k, but only AFTER APoT is done.

Also in all my 23 years of being in fandom (in fact my fandom anniversary will be in 4 days! wtf is time even?) I have only ever given up on posting one fic that made it over 20k and that was because the fandom was an absolutely toxic dumpster fire and not because I lost interest, and even that fic I one day plan to go back to and post in its entirety once the fandom has shrunken considerably and all the 'I might not speak the language or have ever been to the country, but I've read a fan translation with footnotes and a few background posts and so now I totally know the time period and topic you've written your thesis on better than you' people have lost interest. So I promise ALaWHEO will get finished. I'm a completionist. I have all Civ6 steam achievements and believe me that was not fun. The only reason ALaWHEO will not be finished is if I am suddenly for whatever reason unable to write anymore (aka dead or gravely ill).

Anyway. Sorry for the rant. I don't want to call anyone out or seem unappreciative, but my anxiety can only handle so many versions of 'have you completely abandoned ALaWHEO? do you hate it? do you hate me personally for once stating that I didn't like abo fic? I don't know how my poor heart will be able to cope if you give up on ALaWHEO forever and ever but my hope lives on' (no that was not as much of an exaggeration as you might think)

So please stop or I'll disable anon asks, which I'd hate to do because I love hearing everyone's thoughts and comments and also it'd be unfair to everyone else who has been so absolutely lovely, motivating, encouraging and most of all inspiring.

Chapter (10/10)

Miguel O'Hara x My oc (Eve)

They've arrived to where Eve and Chris lived, the moment Eve got off the car, the first sight she sees is the neighborhood, standing across the street, looking at Eve.

Both sides stay silent, they don't know if they should start speaking first.

"I apologize for my behavior as Dawn, and the lies I've told you all throughout the years when everyone took care of me, I was ungrateful," Eve decided to start first, "I'm here to ask for forgiveness and I won't get upset if I wasn't forgiven."

The neighbors looked at each other after what Eve said, a lady walked up to Eve, holding her hand, "you are forever our baby girl, it's alright you took the wrong step, now you're back with us, that's all that matters now."

"Aunt Sally," Eve whined and hugged her, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

"It's alright now child," Sally comforted Eve.

"I want a hug as well," Chris joined in the hug.

"I'm sorry you're in the kitchen," Eve gently smiled, "you can go wait outside, I can do everything myself."

Eve is currently preparing a feast for the neighborhood. They told Eve that all she has to do is to cook a feast and everyone could party together like old times, a way of saying, "you're forgiven."

"Let me help," Miguel said.

"It's really alright, you don't need to force yourself here," Eve placed a huge pot on the stove, "fire."

"I just want to be with you, is that alright?" Miguel mumbled his true thoughts.

"I," Eve stunned a little while, "okay, sure."

With Eve's instructions, Miguel was able to help Eve to prepare everything quicker than she usually does.

"The party has begun!" The people cheered the moment Eve and Miguel entered with the food.

"Eve, c'mon!" Chris called for Eve, "which one do you think suits the party?" Chris showed the mixtapes Eve and him made, there's six in total.

"Number 5," Eve picked the firth one and put it in the recorder, soon enough the rooftop was covered with music and some were already dancing together with the music.

The moment is perfect, there's no sadness on people's faces, it's all laughter and smiles, no one complaining anything, they are all talking to each other happily.

"Mmhmm," Johnny's mom is enjoying the food, with a big smile on her face, "it never gets old eating your cooking," she complimented Eve.

"I'm glad you love it, Aunt Mollie," Eve chucked.

While Eve and the neighbors are chatting, she meets eyes with Miguel that was standing across the rooftop. It seems like Miguel has been looking at Eve for some time already. Miguel smiled the moment they met eyes, Eve turned to neighbors, excusing herself from them so she could walk up to Miguel.

"Hi," Eve smiled, passing Miguel a new cup of drink.

"Thank you," Miguel reached out his hand to grab the drink. When he grabbed onto the drink, their fingertips touched, Eve quickly held back her hand and awkwardly smiled.

"I hope this isn't too overwhelming for you," Eve looked at the people, "we haven't had a party for a long time, to think that today there will be one."

"Everyone is so nice here."

"Of course they are, just how stupid I am to not fully notice it," Eve chuckled and sat on the edge of the rooftop, "it's okay, the fire escape is just below."

Miguel cracked a laugh and sat next to Eve, he's looking at Eve the whole time.

"Is there something on my face?" Eve asked, caught Miguel totally off guard.

"Your beauty," Miguel blurt out.

Eve couldn't help it but to laugh, to hide her blushes away. Eve turned back to Miguel, this time, they didn't looked away.

"I think I love you Eve," Miguel gently smiled.

"You think?" Eve chuckled.

"I've fallen in love with you."

"Seems like our feelings are connected," Eve smirked, "oh Mr O'Hara, I love you too."

"Dying to be Mrs O'Hara?" Miguel leaned forward closer towards Eve.

"Yeah," Eve leaned forward a little, with both of their lips close to each other.

Miguel jumped down to the fire escape and asked Eve to jump as well, "I'll catch you."

Just the three words, Eve didn't think twice and jumped into Miguel's warm arms as their lips finally connected.

feel like this is a good place to rant? i'm so confused by edwina x anthony shippers because it seems they genuinely misunderstand both characters and why they're incompatible. anthony's view of a wife was basically as a job. in his conversation on the terrace with the other doucey lords he said "wooing the PIECE should be easy" and did not say anything against returning to "more pleasurable partners" once the job is done" 🤢. he was putting up a facade the whole time with edwina, acting like the "kind, gentle, even-tempered" gentleman that she wanted (the audience can laugh at her blindness because we know he is anything but that but it sucks for her!!). all "one-on-one" interactions were closely chaperoned which limited conversation topics to things like common interests such as books, which is nice but you can't build a loving relationship on just that. i also don't think they wouldn't talk about their major emotional commonality that is their dads because 1. violet was there and 2. anthony hates any deeper talk about his dad. edwina would be fully unprepared to deal with his broody temperamental high-strung control freak traumatized side. likewise edwina was also fulfilling her role as the perfect debutante and ideal wife prospect which put her under so much pressure and she knew because he made such grand moves in his courtship like inviting her family to his house that if he turned her down it would hurt her prospects to find someone else. she had to go along with whatever he wanted to impress him (even at the altar when he compliments her wedding dress she says she's "happy he's pleased" that phrasing is so 🤢). neither of them could be their true selves around each other because they both have to repress so much of what they're actually feeling to fulfill their duties. the show highlighted the imbalanced power dynamics between them really well, and it was a big part of edwina's character arc that she was done playing this role. but it took a devastating reality check to get that growth and when she finally knows what kind of person anthony really is she is unimpressed (love when he gave her that bouquet and she tossed it aside to the footman). why anyone who likes edwina and her growth during the season would want her in a relationship like that with a person like him is beyond me.

Honestly with the exception of like, maybe 2 people that I've seen, the only edwina-anth*ny shippers I saw in the beginning when the episode 1 screening came out were saphne shippers that were just saying they shipped it out of spite because they didn't like how popular Kate and Anthony was. I do very much agree with you on all the points you made, though, especially when their entire courtship/marriage is further explained by Anthony when he talks to her after she runs away from the altar as being them "taking part in their roles in society". He is a viscount, she is a diamond, on paper they make a perfect match because his high rank positions him as an eligible match for her when she is the most sought-after lady in the ton. And when Edwina basically asked him if he loved her, his sole answer was that he understood her, meaning he understood how hard she had to play her role as the season's diamond in order to please the ton but also ensure her family's good reputation moving forward.

Not enough fans even want to understand this part about Edwina as a character because they're too busy saying she's "ungrateful" to Kate for being angry but Edwina was always under pressure to behave the way she had to to make sure everyone liked her, especially after knowing how much Mary still suffers from society's sniping comments about her past scandal. And Anthony was the main guy who had all the power in their courtship and even potential marriage because again, he's the gentleman with the higher status while Edwina's own title was still "up in the air" since the Sheffields hadn't reclaimed her by then. His attention to her and public desperation to get to meet with and court her was obvious throughout and Edwina HAS to entertain him once they go to Aubrey Hall because at this point even the mothers want to expect a potential engagement for them. And like you mentioned, if Anthony doesn't propose, not only will Edwina think she did something wrong in playing her part (one that she's prepared for for almost half her life), but she'll also be vulnerable to other people's gossip as a result, since the season's most eligible bachelor didn't want the Queen's chosen diamond of the season. Like Anthony said about ending the engagement to Violet, even him not proposing would've possibly harmed her reputation because if a viscount finds something lacking in the Queen's definition of "flawless", then there must be something wrong with Edwina as a possible bride. Also, Edwina doesn't have the security of a higher title or even the monetary security that Daphne had during her own season, so she couldn't outright deny Anthony and his attention towards her even if she had wanted to, and during episode 2 it's obvious that she's trying to not hurt anyone's feelings because that's what a proper lady must do to anyone who shows her positive attention.
