How to Build a Modern Farmhouse Kitchen
Build a modern farmhouse kitchen by kitchen remodeling in Orange County
Tumblr media
A modern farmhouse kitchen is a kind of kitchen consisting of much more of the industrial style lighting above the kitchen island. A more contemporary focal point look giver would be a metal vent hood rather than being covered in shiplap by kitchen remodeling in Orange County.
Although a typical farmhouse kitchen speaks of an old form of kitchen style, it can be remodeled to give a modern farmhouse look by kitchen remodeling in Orange County. The farmhouse style is supposed to raise emotions of warmth and comfort. It has a classic soft appeal about it that prevents it from being too chaotic and withdrawn.
Very often farmhouse kitchens are compared to the kitchens of the countryside but however, but they differ from them in the mannerisms of being more endearing and aristocratic. Even more, it has to do something with comfort.
Experts suggest that a generalized way of transforming your kitchen into a modern farmhouse kind would be lightening up the space with light-colored cabinets such as cream or white color. It should be coupled with humble hardware. Other farmhouse textures include natural wood.
Adding marble, wood, or soapstone enhances the class, addition of a farmhouse kitchen, an attempt at open shelving or glass-front cabinets, addition of the hardwood flooring, and exposed beams. All these can be topped with an island or center table with appropriate decorations.
You can end up having a combination of a white countertop, with a walnut wood island and black cabinets for instance to get the look of a farmhouse kitchen. For the purpose of the elemental look or lighting, you can team it up with copper fixtures. This kind of fixture runs a spectrum from an antique-inspired work. Copper fixtures tend to give a rustic look.
Not forgetting about the operating part of the kitchen, you may utilize X-brace supports for the island part. The area of the food preparation can be decorated with a crate and spice rack, filled with kitchen utensils, where you may also top it up with a coffee station. It’s fun to think about how geology impacts art. Take soapstone, a humble metamorphic rock, birthed by the shifting plates of our Earth.
For thousands of years, it’s been a medium for human expression, yielding countless snapshots of our ever-changing culture.
Above, we see a 12th-century Byzantine relief of Saint George, a venerated Christian saint. Soapstone can be found in the open arms of Brazil’s “Christ the Redeemer” statue. And the material has appeared in art of the Kannadigas and in North American Native American carvings dating back centuries.
Part of this has to do with what’s in the rock. Namely, a lot of talc. That’s the same stuff used in baby powder, which in high volumes can make soapstone (also called “steatite”) easy to carve.
In lower volumes, it tends to imbue the rock with a soap-like feel, which gives us the name, “soapstone.”

[Inventory Supply]: a long, white bone, almost longer than Hoka's arm. It resembles an overlong ulna, flattened to have sharp sides tapering to a fine point. It's ever-so-slightly dusty to the touch, and carries the burnt-sugar smell of one rather canine skeleton and his magic. Rawhide sends his regards.
My Muse is Trapped in a Dark world filled with Monsters and unnatural horrors. Go on Anon and Send “Inventory Supply” Along with an Item and see what My Muse says about the Item and how they think it will help them..
[Action: Arrive in Town]
What is colloquially referred to as ‘Eastern Drachenberg’ is perhaps the last big city in the realm, the still-standing capital once home to Benevolent Tyrant Diamatrand. The capital looms in the distance, tarnished spires reaching for the sky, but your party still has a ways to go. Instead, you’ve arrived in the hamlet of Silberner Turm / Silver Spire, travel-weary but elated.
[Location Added: Silberner Turm / Silver Spire]
The town’s namesake is a relic of Diamatrand’s rule, rising far above the humble homes and businesses at around sixty feet in height. The surface is far from smooth, being inscribed with countless patterns and runes.
[Investigate Spire]
Feeling like a tourist, you stride into the center of the town, right to the base of the Spire, no one stops you, and the air seems to thrum with strange energy. Without thinking, you inscribe a message for help, using the Orange Soapstone…
[Special: Bunny Blessed]
[Per Check: 10/20 + 32 Tengantsu = 42/20 CHECK SUCCEEDED]
Your sharp eyes spot a blade of white… bone? It’s laying at the Spire’s base, and you feel a smile stretch over your face at the familiar smell. With the Soapstone, you write ‘THANK YOU’ and store the bone in your Bottomless Bag.
[Item Added: Bone Blade]
Heading back into town, you decide to hit up the nearest tannery.
[Action: Equip Butterfly Spectacles]
You are now wearing the Butterfly Spectacles, looking for all the world like some kind of elegant rogue who knows everything he should not. The tanner greets you, and you request a belt and sheath for your weapons, showing him your equipment. She tells you the price for the belt and sheath set is 20 G, which is slightly out of your price range.
[Cha Check: 5/20 + 10 Butterfly Spectacles = 15/20 CHECK SUCCEEDED]
Swishing your cloak over your shoulders, you take back your weapons, as though to leave, stating that you can find a better price. Surely, any tanner worth their salt would love to see their work worn by a Paladin of the Order of Flowers, you tell her. She frowns, and tells you she can drop the price to 15 G, 10 if you don’t mind her using a lower quality of leather.
You accept, forking over the gold.
[Item Removed: 10 G]
The tanner works quickly, using leather scraps to cobble together a belt that will fit both Drider’s Bite and the bone blade, which you, on a whim, decide to name Antares. Once finished, you equip the belt, and slide Antares into its newly-made sheathe, which rests on your left hip, with Drider’s Bite on the right hip as a parrying dagger.
[Item Renamed: Antares (formerly Bone Blade)]
You’re finally starting to look like an adventurer.
[Action: Speak to Party]
Outside, you track down your party, and Lady Seraph invites you to stay in her family’s vacation home, in the more affluent side of town. Flat broke as you are, you are inclined to accept. Ventia also has no money, but tells you and Seraph that he prefers to sleep outside. She welcomes him to come along, anyways, as he could use a good meal, and so can you, honestly.
You and your party make your way to the vacation home, and are warmly greeted as guests by well-dressed servants, having noble friends is pretty fuckin’ swell, you gotta admit. After a good meal, you are shown to your room for the night, and gratefully shut the door behind you.
[Action: Resume Human Form]
Stripping off your cloak and equipment, laying them aside, your bones crack and shift, and your fur thins out and becomes skin once more. You are now human, and it feels good. The bed you practically fall into is soft, and you’re asleep in no time.
Hopefully, you’ll return home soon.

1887-1986
One of the largest makers of handmade glass ware in the United States, The Fostoria Glass Company dates back to December 15, 1887 in Fostoria, Ohio. Four years later they moved their pressed glass factory to Moundsville, West Virginia. By 1925 the company expanded to five furnaces and a number of specialty shops. Fostoria remained in Moundsville until closing nearly a century later in l986.
Fostoria is best known for high quality tableware and stemware including clear, colored, etched, gilded, lustered, and pressed items. In 1915, the company began producing their American Pattern tableware -- probably the most popular pattern ever produced. In 1924, they were the first glass manufacturer to start a national advertising campaign. In addition to producing fine lamps and blown, etched and pressed glassware, Fostoria also produced a wide variety of fine glass animals and figurines.
In the years between World War I and World War II, Fostoria, along with other glass manufacturers (Heisey, Cambridge and New Martinsville) created a number of glass animals and bookends for the decorative accessories market, in response to the growing craze for glass animals.

What Are The Best Countertop Material Options For Kitchens?
In the past 20 years, granite has dominated all the most popular choices for indoor table materials. But, in recent years, new competitors have appeared: quartz, Soapstone, Marble, and so on. But, putting trends and popularity aside, which table does the best job, year after year? To find out, I learned a lot about constructors' opinions about the best materials for durability, maintenance, and aesthetics. Read about the insights of their answers:
At the budget-saving level
Many people have limits on the money for kitchen countertop material choices, so here are the options you might consider: Laminate Laminate countertop / Source: https://www.seattletimes.com/explore/nwhomes/todays-laminate-countertops-no-sighs-or-yucks-in-sight/ Well, branded plywood counters like Formica can be a countertop material for the kitchen. The panels are synthetic plastic coated with a smooth surface, so it is easy to clean. Types of countertops are made by connecting wooden panels to the particleboard. Wooden tabletops can be purchased as pre-formed segments or manufactured according to specifications, on-site or in-store. Although many years are considered cousins for more advanced materials, plywood has witnessed a recent increase in popularity, thanks to thousands of modern colors, patterns, and designs. Plywood is particularly prevalent in retro designs, mid-century modern kitchens. Wood or Butcher Block Wooden countertop / Source: https://www.hgtv.com/remodel/kitchen-remodel/butcher-block-and-wood-countertops Wooden countertops are one of the countertop material options for kitchens. It offers a beautiful warm look and is available in a variety of colors and designs. Therefore, hardwoods such as maple and oak are commonly used as tabletops. In addition, wooden counters require proper maintenance, including regular oiling. Otherwise, they will crack and look dull. Ceramic tile Ceramic tile countertop / Source: https://www.wearefound.com/kitchen-ceramic-tile-countertops-that-never-go-out-of-style/bright-kitchen-designed-with-white-cabinets-and-blue-white-ceramic-tile-countertops/ Experts say another reasonable option is ceramic tiles. It is made of pressed clay and finished with yeast. This type of tabletop is generally resistant to heat, water, and staining if adequately sealed. However, the grout lines between the bricks will become dirty over time and require regular cleaning.  This kind of countertop is quite long-lasting and easy to cleanse, and it is considerably more affordable than other choices. Notably, it is one of the kitchen countertop material types that is very suitable for DIY people who are willing to do their job.  Recent innovations in porcelain tiles offer more options for homeowners than ever before. You can design your own style that suits your personality. They include bricks that look like wood, marble, or even leather. Tiles and porcelain offer more design options than almost any other table material.
Mid-range budget
Yes, for those with mid-range budgets, these are the right choices for you: Granite  Granite countertop / Source: https://sky-marble.com/granite-countertops-in-chantilly-va/ For a very long time, granite was the first choice when it came to the best countertop material for outdoor kitchen. Precise marble brings elegance in a kitchen. Even the humble kitchen turns into luxurious space when flavored by the beauty of the granite surface. Granite was once a costly material, but its cost was reduced somewhat as supplies increased and manufactured stones became more popular.  However, granite is still a solid choice because it has excellent heat resistance and is not easily stained. Reliability and uncomplicated maintenance is a big part of the appeal of granite. Other benefits? It has many colors and patterns to suit every style. Corian Corian surface / Source: http://www.corian.com/-kitchen-gallery- As a mixture of polymer and alumina trihydrate, Corian is becoming a more popular option for the tabletop, Guthrie said. It is available in a variety of colors, easy to maintain, and very durable. Corian tabletop is known for its seamless installation, and they are capable of integrating sinks and backs.  The strength and sturdiness of this type of table are excellent and good, but what most people want to know is how it will look in their kitchen? For the appropriate color options, not a few options are suitable for you. The DuPont website has samples of all 113 on tap colors that you can order directly from the site. Comparing the cost of different materials may be like comparing lemons and tangerines. But if the price is essential to you, then you should know where Corian stands when compared to other accessible materials available to you. Costs vary depending on the style and quantity you need. According to the average estimate, homeowners will spend about $ 3500 to have Corian tabletop installed in their homes.
High-end product
There is now an outstanding option on this luxury segment: Quartz Quartz countertop / Source: https://us.vicostone.com/en/quartz-stone/BQ8825 I believe that quartz (made from ground quartz stone combined with polyester and pigments) deserves the best countertop material kitchen. Material is becoming increasingly popular as a desktop material, especially for those who find granite. Because quartz is a human-made product, it has a more modern appearance in terms of perfection and appeals to today's buyers. In terms of prices, quartz is more expensive than quartz. However, the benefits it brings are many. First of all, thanks to its plastic content, quartz is not porous and does not need to be sealed. This case saves you a lot of annual maintenance costs. Its texture does not allow bacteria, mold, or mold to grow and resist stains, help protect your family and clean the kitchen super easy. Quartz is stable and durable, and it can serve you from 10 to 15 years and sometimes has a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Besides, because quartz is human-made, it has a multitude of colors, often adorned with streaks of metal or recycled glass to add sophistication and elegance. You can even choose from a variety of designs because most manufacturers like Vicostone are ready to serve your needs.
Final thoughts
Whatever the price, you can buy a tabletop that fits your home design. I hope that this article has brought much useful information to you. If you have any comments, please let me know. Thanks for reading. Read the full article

Arplis - News: How To Do “Craftsman” Right – The 7 Key Elements That Make This Vintage Style Work
If you are a fan of this blog, I think it’s safe to say that you have a deep love (or at least hefty fondness) for a home full of soul. It’s basically our main goal to inject as much of it as possible into any home, regardless of when it was built. But let’s be honest, there is just nothing like a home with actual history…like 100 years of it. A home that has seen some sh*t. I find that when the phrase, “they just don’t build em like they used to” is uttered, I either slightly roll my eyes and halfway smile in silent defense of my generation or I immediately (and audibly) agree because well, it’s the truth. So when I opened my email a few weeks ago and saw this beautifully restored craftsman home, my heart filled right up. I was immediately struck by its visible soulfulness and needed to know more.
Enter the “soul keepers,” Jamie and her husband, Craig. These two are no strangers to a historical home remodel. They actually do this more or less as a hobby or as Jamie says, “it’s an addiction… but it’s an addiction to beauty and craft.” So never mind that Jamie had given birth to their second child one month (yes, ONE MONTH) prior when they saw this house for sale. Because as soon as they saw it they knew they had to bring it back to life.
This house is now for sale (I know!) because Jamie and Craig already have a beautifully restored home they aren’t ready to leave. So after they restored this beaut, they called upon one of EHD’s favorite staging and design firms, A 1000 X Better to really make sure that it felt as welcoming as possible for their potential buyers. And since we are all about beautiful homes AND teaching you how to create them, we are going go through the 7 main design elements you will want to consider when designing the perfect (and slightly unexpected) craftsman home. In Jamie’s words, “you don’t open up a Craftsman home and make it an open concept. You embrace their quirky personalities and enhance them where you can. It’s a labor of love really.” We couldn’t agree more. So let’s talk about the ways to design a historical home that will stand the test of time, so the tradition of bragging to future generations will stay firmly intact:)
Embrace The Original Wood and Keep It Matte
wall color | brass ceiling lights
The wood mouldings and accents are what make craftsman homes so darn special. The warmth and texture they bring are off the charts. I mean, just look at this living room. Instead of painting and/or putting a high gloss finish all over that stunning wood, they brought it back to its natural state. Does it look super modern? No. But that’s what makes it special. It’s like the wood is basically naked, baring its soul to you.
Here’s what they did to restore the wood back to its former glory: “We stripped all the wood on the first floor, and had real historic wood artisans do the work to make sure the wood had the right feeling, stain, and patina. We had alder baseboards specially milled to match those we found in the home. We had gorgeous decorative crown moldings cut that match those we found. We trimmed the house in Douglas Fir, because a house smells better when you use real wood trim.”
Paint The Walls Light Or Really Dark
wall color | semi flush mount | vintage rug | art on left
When Emily and I were looking at these photos we realized that in terms of painting a craftsman home you really only have two options when it comes to colors – really dark (like in that stunning parlor room above) or pretty light…like white or light gray – ideally a cooler toned color, stay away from beige. Especially when you are dealing with a lot of natural wood this is key. For example, a warm reddish color would look too similar to that medium wood tone.
small semi flush mount | large semi flush mount
Of course, there are exceptions and wallpaper is a whole other story (we will chat about that later) but choosing a high contrast color is the best way to make the wood accents pop.
Before we move on, I think we need a moment to take in the overwhelming beauty of these windows. I mean HOW?! They really knew what they were doing 100 years ago:)
Highlight Special Architectural Moments
wall color | accent color | vintage rug
In a home like this one, there are so many special architectural moments. By highlighting a few of them with paint you visually elevate the entire home. Take the killer arch and stair rail in the photo above. The dark paint makes that whole moment pop and actually helps to make the natural wood stand out more in contrast. Had they not been painted it still would have been beautiful but way less of a wow moment.
This built-in bench is another great example. It really pops because of the paint color and gives the space a fresh feel which is important in a historical home. You want to care for its history and bring it back to life BUT also make it feel like it belongs in today’s world.
Pepper in Unexpected Decor to Balance Out Traditional Feel
vintage rug | wall color
In true EHD fashion, we LOVE any opportunity to “mix it up” and create unexpected moments. A 1000 X Better is no stranger to the “unexpected moment” but in my humble opinion, they knocked it out of the park with that cool mint wicker desk and that sofa. I honestly don’t know if I can live a truly happy life until that sofa is in my possession. To me, you (sofa) are perfect.

But like the desk, this sofa is a very different style than the home. But because they are within the color palette of the home and have natural textures, they work perfectly and make the space feel unique.
Hot Tip
You can mix any style as long as it falls within your chosen color palette.
Keep Kitchens and Bathrooms Classic
cabinet knob | cabinet pull | shelf brackets | sconce | switchplate
The two places to keep your freak flag temporarily at ease in a craftsman home are in the kitchen and bathroom. By all means, have fun with the decor once all of your hard (and permanent) finishes are in place but as Jamie said, “we chose finishes that would have been used in 1905. Marble, soapstone, real wood cabinets that get painted and feel like wood when you touch them.” Truly the last thing you want is to regret a countertop choice because it feels out of place.
island pendant | semi flushmount| sink | cabinet color | wall color | vintage rug
So now that we have that little hot tip out of the way, let’s take a sec to appreciate this kitchen. There’s not one thing I don’t love in here. There is just the right amount of detail in the cabinet feet and island legs to pay homage to the style of the home, but everything else has a sleeker, more modern traditional feel. It looks updated (in the best way). Also, those stairs are too beautiful, right?
vanity | sink faucet | robe hook | showerhead | shower handle | round mirror | vintage pendant source | accent wall color
I want to shower in this bathroom so badly. It’s another example of Jamie and Craig’s talent for making modern updates but honoring a home’s original architecture. Notice how every material has visual texture. The tiles, countertop, aged brass, and wood all bring life to the space. Nothing feels sterile which is always our goal when we are designing.
flush mount (vintage shade) | sconce (vintage shade) | faucet | shower handle | shower head and trim | vanity| drawer pulls | mirror
The same goes for this smaller bathroom. They used beautiful materials and fixtures that are akin to the home but elevate it in the best way. Also, that marble tub surround is all heart eyes for me.
Choose Light Fixtures That Stylewise Are In Line With The House
vintage rug
You may have noticed that throughout all of these photos, all of the hardwired light fixtures are more on the modern traditional side. We think this is the way to go (and it’s what Em did in her English Tudor Home). Keep those more permanent types of design elements in line with the style of the home for longevity and overall homage to the style. I mean you probably chose your historical home for a reason right?
Don’t Be Afraid of Fun Wallpaper
wallpaper | faucet | door knob | vintage semi flush mount (similar)
I know we talked earlier about only using very dark or very light paint colors inside of a craftsman home (which we still stand by all these photos later) but we also think that wallpaper is a great way to make a room more special. We would suggest choosing a pattern that has a nostalgic feel like the awesome one they chose for the powder bath. Otherwise, just choose a texture but don’t go too modern unless of course, you are completely throwing the vintage baby out with the historical bathwater.
Well, there you have it. A stunning home tour with tips that can hopefully be helpful and transferable to any type of historical home. A huge thank you to Jamie and Craig for letting us feature their beautiful project. We are so happy that there are people who want to celebrate design history and take such good care of it.
Let’s talk about this incredible house in the comments. Thoughts, feelings, and sofa yearnings are all welcome:)
Love you, mean it.

The Peabody Institute Competition
Tumblr media
A photograph of Elevation on Charles Street, Peabody Institute, No. 1 & 3. Designed by W. Angelo Powell and dated September 21, 1857.
After serving his two-year sentence in the State Penitentiary in Richmond, Virginia, W. Angelo Powell returned to Baltimore. In 1857, the twenty-nine-year-old architect entered a competition for the Peabody Institute (now the George Peabody Library).
George Peabody was born in Danvers, Massachusetts (now Peabody, Massachusetts), in 1795. Although he came from humble origins, Peabody would transform himself into a titan of America’s early financial industry.[1]
After the War of 1812, Peabody formed a partnership with Elisha Riggs. Riggs and Peabody had both served as volunteers in the war and they founded Peabody, Riggs, and Company, a dry goods firm.[2] In 1816, they moved the firm from Georgetown in Washington, D.C., to Baltimore. The company was both successful and lucrative.
In 1837, Peabody moved to London and formed a partnership with Junius Spencer Morgan. This partnership would evolve into the House of Morgan, the renowned investment company known today as J. P. Morgan Chase.[3] Although his primary residence was in London, Peabody was determined that the citizens of Baltimore have a temple of the arts.[4] He believed in the power of the artist to open the minds and enrich the lives of others.[5]
Peabody worked with John Pendleton Kennedy, a former U.S. congressman and secretary of the navy. Peabody and Kennedy were kindred spirits and they shared a common vision to advance Baltimore’s cultural life.[6] Peabody pledged $300,000 to erect a new two-story building that would contain rooms for an historical society, an art gallery, a library for 100,000 volumes, and a lecture hall that could accommodate 1,500 people.[7]
On February 9, 1857, Peabody and Kennedy drafted a letter outlining the goals of the institute. The letter was published on February 12, and called for a new building “that in it’s plan, style of architecture, and adaptation to various uses, it may be worthy of the purpose to which it is dedicated, and may serve to embellish a City whose prosperity I trust, will ever be distinguished by and equal growth in knowledge and virtue.”[8]
The Peabody Institute competition drew the interest of several local architects including Louis L. Long and Edmond G. Lind (the eventual winner). The Peabody’s archives offer the most complete record of the design and construction of a major public building in the Old South.[9]
Seven of the nine drawings Powell submitted for the competition survive and can be found in the library of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. They include:
Basement Floor Plan (dated September 11, 1857)
First Floor Plan (dated September 8, 1857)
Second Floor Plan (dated September 11, 1857)
Building Section (dated September 19, 1857)
Charles Street Elevation (dated September 21, 1857)
Mt. Vernon Elevation (dated September 22, 1857)
Spring Alley Elevation (dated September 21, 1857)
Powell laid out his plan, section, and elevation drawings in pencil at the scale of 1/8” = 1’-0”. By the 1850s, hexagonal graphite pencils were available in varying degrees of softness. Pencils were marked with “B” for “black,” “F” indicating “firm,” and “H” for “hard,” and numbers were added to denote degrees of blackness or hardness.[10] Before erasers of India rubber were available, pencil drawings were usually cleaned with waded chunks of stale bread.[11]

A photograph of Mount Vernon Elevation of Peabody Institute to Circular Library No. 3. & Concert Building No. 1. Designed by W. Angelo Powell A.C.E. and dated September 22, 1857.
After a drawing had been laid out in pencil, primary lines were often retraced in ink using two-pronged ruling pens. Before the introduction of bottled ink in the 1880s, ink was tediously made by rubbing sticks of India or Chinese ink with water in small dishes of slate or soapstone.[12] Errors were corrected by scraping the inked lines with a sharp knife (often known as a steel eraser) or razor blade. These areas were then rubbed with emery powder—an abrasive powder typically used for grinding and polishing glass.

As buildings became more complex, so did their drawings. Finished drawings—especially plans and sections—were often poched (hatched) with an ink wash.  Occasionally watercolors were used to denote materials: wood in ocher, brick in light red, and iron in blue.[13] To denote changes in planes, shadows were frequently added to the elevations.

A photograph of Section of Peabody Institute to Plan No. 1. Designed by W. Angelo Powell Archt and dated September 19, 1857. The sections were poched with an ink wash.
Powell’s drawings for the Peabody Institute competiton are absolutely beautiful. I had the opportunity to view them in 2011 and they are the earliest known drawings attributed to the architect that I have found.

A photo of the first page of a two-page letter from W. Angelo Powell to the Building Committee for the Peabody Institute.
In addition to the drawings, there is a letter from Powell to the Building Committee for the Peabody Institute. It reads:
Baltimore December 10th 1857
To the Gentlemen
Of the Building Committee
Peabody Institute
Gentlemen,
I respectfully acknowledge the receipt of your Resolutions regarding the designs submitted by others and myself for the Peabody Institute building 2nd “Resolved that the sum of $1125 be divided in equal portions among the Authors of Designs A, C, E, G, H, K, O, R, and S. And resolutions found Dec 4th that the sum of $125 awaits my application to Mr. J. M. Gordon at the Union Bank, to all of which I most respectfully connect to and accept of.
My object in now addressing your body is for the purpose of being informed—which of my four designs your have favored with acceptance, and if you intend or desire to retain the other three designs for reference in preparing a compromise design for the said building?
I would respectfully propose to you Gentlemen, that if your desire to have one or more comprise designs prepared in Good Architectural Style of finished Drawings—complete—from those [of] nine selected.
I respectfully solicit your attention to this proposition.  That I will prepare your drawings embodying the several features desired contained in the nine designs, at such place you may select, upon such terms as will be consistent with the purpose—
Your attention is requested to the within and any communication you make me will be considered a complement and promptly attended to.
Gentlemen
I have the honor to submit myself your
 most Obd. & c.

Chas. Eaton Engr
And others,
I found no response to Powell’s letter in the Peabody’s archives, but there were three notes regarding Powell’s submission. They included brief summaries of his drawings and rough estimates for their associated cost of construction.
While Powell did not receive the commission, he did win a prize of $125—a considerable sum in 1857. Two years later, Powell established a new practice, Powell & Brother with his younger brother Samuel.

Gratitude Keeper Book
When I got the Inspiration to develop the gratitude concept, it never occurred to me that the need would be so enormous. Now I am excited to share the official news with you we have signed a book deal – with Hay House and Balboa to release our book, Gratitude Keeper Tentatively Fall 2016-2017. The book and the website and media will carry the weight and brand of Hay House and Balboa. So what about this book? This book is immensely powerful; it provides inspirational strategies for addressing our shared human tendency of thinking negative.
It includes special applications of gratitude, designed to assist your personal growth, to encourage you to live an authentic life of gratitude. It is ideal for anyone who believes in the power of breath and recognizes that life is a journey. It will assist you in creating a chronicle of positive vibrations, a prized family heirloom. I have had the opportunity to present this concept to various meet-up groups, m/f, and it has been with excitement and awe! Now, to be backed by one of the world’s leading and most reputable publishing house is humbling and gratifying. I am very positive that this is going to be a magnificent success, and I am honored to be on this journey.
This launch will be a success, and it is important that we keep the villages in Kenya carving those fabulous looking Gratitude boxes out of soapstone, and the people there are doing a fantastic job. Our current challenge is aligning the finances to produce the boxes, the daily cards, and the pens. This daily practice of gratitude keeper will indeed promote a positive outcome for individuals on all levels, spiritual, physical and emotional.
If you believe that this project is in alignment with your beliefs, and you would like to provide support, then please send an email to [email protected] Special thanks to Michelle Cassidy, who introduced me Selbina Mwendwa. Selbina has been a valuable asset in assisting our connection with the people of Kenya. This project has developed into an excellent Win-Win situation because it will provide the people sustainable income, moreover assist in improving their quality of life and provide them with clean drinking water. It was shocking for me to hear their story to get water from the Dam where Crocodiles live. It was difficult to imagine having to make that trip, day in and day out, but I suppose they do what’s necessary to make it happen. Therefore, when a Gratitude Keeper Kit is purchased, a portion will be given back to help build sustainable wells.
TRANSFORM YOUR ENERGY AND TRANSFORM YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR LIFE. It has been empowering to write this book in assisting individuals to transform their energy and improve their mental, emotional and physical health. We value your gratitude stories; please give us your opinion on how the practice of Gratitude has made a positive difference in your life, by emailing [email protected] I am eagerly looking forward to sharing much more about of this book shortly. Your opinion is valuable.

Humble Biker
Tumblr media
I want to catch up on Tumblr things, but I am having a slightly tricky time IRL, so apologies if I am slow responding to things. In the meantime have a screenshot of Humble I quite liked.
Although he is making a solid effort to pull off the whole "sexy" thing, I suspect he spends most of his time on the moon giving the Lopporits pillion rides across the lunar sands.

Humble Challenger
Tumblr media
Following some historical advice from @thornethelegend I've settled on Monk as Humble's canon dps job (although he does practice most melee roles, punching things is very on brand for Humble). This will also help me out with being too much of a scaredy-cat to tank pug groups, despite Warrior being Humble's main job. Mind you, Monk is definitely the hardest melee job I've tried to learn! Maybe Humble should ask Thorne of @thornethelegend or Makhali of @dragonsongmakhali for some tips...
