I have made a ver short animatic? ig idk what to call it exactly. but my httyd au has me in a choke hold rn and i made this :D characters are light purple= Dust (a Nightlight hybrid)

Tan= Horror (a sand wraith)

explanation: Horror and Dust help each other and have grown to see each other as brothers.

I'll make a post with backstory stuff explained but for now enjoy this.

Nightmare's gang backstory.

the gang's backstories are dark. insanity and injury occur. keep in mind.

Dust (nightlight) 

Dust is a nightlight that has been in the fighting rings since he was young. Like most dragons he goes insane. He ends up killing his brother by accident in the ring. The guilt sends him over the edge. He essentially turns into a mindless machine. It hurts too much to think about things. Do what you're told so you get fed. Survive because that’s what you're supposed to do.

Until of course horror shows up. Horror is a sand wraith which has several physical similarities to furies. This makes Dust think horror is his brother at first glance. It essentially gives Dust a shock to his system. Knocking him out of his repetition. He looked so hungry… he could spare a few fish. 

Horror(sand wraith) 

Horror was a generally not very aggressive dragon. He lived with his pack and for the most part was fine even if a little scarce of food sometimes. Then there was a shortage for some unknown reason. As his pack became more and more hungry they started getting desperate. And falling for traps set by hunters. You see the hunters had essentially fished out the pack to make them more likely to fall for traps. What they didn’t expect is for Horror to actively start hunting THEM. 

Hunger had essentially pushed him over the brink. 

After witnessing his ferocity the hunters decided he would make a lot of money in the fighting industry because of his larger than average size. It was soon discovered he would only become overly aggressive when hungry. So he would be given very little food to make the fights more interesting and keep horror aggressive. It honestly completely broke him. He was feral for several years

That was until he was shipped to Dust’s fighting ring. Dust gave him some of his fish which helped horror regain some sanity back. Both of them had reputations so all the other dragons were understandably too scared to talk to them.

They were eventually paired to fight each other since they were both “champions” when they refused to, a skrill was thrown in in a panic to try and make things interesting to the crowd. I suppose it works. The two end up fighting the skrill. At one point the Skrill is about to blast Horror in his face which would have killed him, but Dust jumps in front and blocks it with his wing. 

Dust’s wing is essentially destroyed. He can’t fly. The hunters remove both of his wings because they are now useless. The leader of the ring preserves them for decoration. Dust is understandably emotionally destroyed by this. He had always held onto the hope he would be able to escape one day and fly freely again. Horror now feels indebted to Dust and goes full big brother mode on him. Albeit somewhat still mentally unstable big brother. When Nightmare and Killer raid the fighting ring Horror flies away with Dust who is just at a really low point mentally. Horror returns to his old pack to find them just… gone. No trace of them or if they had gone somewhere. 

Nightmare and Killer who had been following them offered to let the two join their pack. They do. It became clear that horror can’t just carry Dust everywhere. So Horror thinks they could maybe try… to hijack a hunter ship and use it as a mobile nest. It takes several attempts but they end up getting a massive boat and learning how to properly use it. Dust spends a lot of time modifying the ship to occupy himself and ignore his problems. 

It takes a lot of time but with the help of Nightmare who was slowly becoming more and more of a parental figure to them for Dust and Horror to really get better mentally. 

Horror and Dust are really a duo unit. Horror is physically more powerful than Dust and acts as his wings. Dust on the other hand has ALOT more firepower. Dust's blasts are more powerful than normal despite his smaller than average size. 

Killer (lightfury/deadly nadder)

has been trained as a dragon hunter since hatching. Part of a group of hunters that used other dragons as hunting tools. It was all Killer knew. Despite his eye problem caused by the weird black liquid that always seemed to leak from his eyes he was a valuable tool to the hunters because of his speed and agility.

Killer was often used to hunt other furies (night furies, light furies, and Night lights) his final hunt was actually hunting nightmare. After it failed Killer resolved himself to be killed with the hunters but he wasn’t. Nightmare spared him and since killer needed a purpose, as he had never known freedom before, he was offered to join nightmare effectively making them a small pack. Killer is still rather young and so Nightmare essentially became his father figure and mentor. 

Killer also has to wash his eyes and face at least every day to prevent infection because of the black stuff coming from his eyes.This is caused because Killer can’t breath fire (a side effect of his nature as a hybrid messing with body functions if that makes sense.) 

  A target shape is branded on his chest, all dragons that were also hunters had it to distinguish them. Unfortunately this leads to many misunderstandings.Killer is nearly always attacked on sight or ran from because hunter dragons are greatly feared among the wild dragons. 

He is seen as the annoying younger brother of the gang for a long time before they find Cross. 

Cross(Nightlight/yetiwing) 

made to be a formidable fighter by this au’s X gaster which is a hunter of sorts? He is trying to make the most powerful ideal dragon riding society. His attempts at perfection eventually drove him to madness. 

Cross was an attempt to make an ideal dragon. Powerful and fast with a resistance to a variety of climates. He was a guard for a long time. Fiercely devoted. That was until he found out what happened behind closed doors. 

Anything that didn’t meet standards was destroyed and replaced including People and Dragons. Cross tried to stop X gaster on his own but it ended in disaster. No one believed him. He was chased out and he eventually escaped and hid only to be found by the gang, exhausted, hungry, dehydrated, and in need of a bath on top of his mental breakdown. 

Nightmare has gone dad mode and adopts him on sight. 

Cross is unofficial younger brother though he insists he is a guard for Nightmare now not a part of any familial unit. (lies) the whole gang finds this hilarious. 

Nightmare(Nightfury/stormcutter)

The others remind him of himself. Lost and broken by the world. He is determined to make sure they don’t make the same mistakes he did. 

Also he likes books. and is very lorge

The gang lives together now on their floating nest ship. Nightmare is essentially a dragon pirate king now with 4 unofficial sons. They travel and raid any hunter ships or just regular ships they find. There are urban legends about them now or whatever. Both with dragons and hunters alike. Wild dragons fear them as well as the few dragons that live with humans fear them. The hunters Fear them as the phantom ship. The gang are constantly on the move to avoid discovery.

I will answer any questions about this Au. in fact i encourage it if you feel like it. don't feel pressured to though ^-^

It had been a few days since Nightmare had spared the hunter dragon after becoming the target of one of the dragon hunter's hunts. He seemed intent on following Nightmare around. It was starting to remind Nightmare of a duckling following around first moving thing it sees upon hatching... He had asked the dragons name about a day after he initially started following him. He seemed unsure for a moment before Telling him it was Killer. A strange but unsurprising name for the hybrid. He was indeed one efficient Killer in the hunter ranks.

It confused Nightmare a little how docile he had been after nightmare had killed the rest of the hunting party. including The human hunter that was his rider. In fact Killer just stared at nightmare seemingly expecting something, and then confusion at being left alone. It confused Nightmare himself why he spared him. The hunter dragon had tried to kill him. maybe he was growing a conscience after all these years. maybe it was the look on his face Killer had been a barrage of questions after nightmare had let him accompany him. not that nightmare planned he would have stayed for this long. It seemed an endless parade of "whats that?" and "why does this food taste weird?" and "how do you do that?" along with the most recent "how do you know where you are going all the time?" Nightmare would be lying if it wasn't tiring trying to answer it all. It somewhat unnerved him the things Killer just didn't seem to know. Nightmare pushed the thought out of his head as he landed in an empty sea cliff cave. he was getting tired. Killer landed behind him. He immediately went to curiously inspecting the cave around him. Nightmare just left him to whatever he felt like doing. He used his fire to warm a spot on the stone floor, circling a few times before settling down. his rest was interrupted by a tap on his snout by one of killer's talons. His one good eye opened to find the hybrid staring at him with a question obviously burning in his expression. "what is it?" Nightmare said with a grumble. "can i ask you another question..?" he seemed almost hesitant. "If you wish." Nightmare relented. "before when you didn't Kill me for trying to hunt you down... what was it?"

"What do you mean?" "what was it? i don't have a word for that...?" Killer tilted his head. "do you mean.. Mercy?" Nightmare's tone shifted to one of more concern as he lifted his head. "Mercy... what is it?" "... When you choose not to... hurt someone?" "But wouldn't that make you weak? Why would you be weak? Your Not weak though... you could have killed me. why... " Killer seemed frustrated, hissing a little bit. "Killer what are you talking about?" Killer stamped his feet. "If your stronger you kill, if you die your weak. That's how things work. You just aren't supposed to not kill... right? Your not supposed to not hurt...? You aren't supposed to do Mercy or whatever it's called. It doesn't make sense." Nightmare was unsure how to respond to that. "No one has ever showed you any sort of mercy before me?" of all dragons me. A living nightmare to humans and dragons alike. Nightmare added mentally. "No. that's not how things work..." Killer was sounding more unsure now. Nightmare felt the sudden urge to shield. to protect. Like he had wanted someone to do for him when he was young. "Killer come here." Nightmare lifted up two of his four wings. Opening a spot on the still heated stone. Killer padded over. Slightly unsure as to what was happening. he lay down, kneading the loose pebbles with his talons, then looked at Nightmare quizzically. Nightmare lowered his wings again so they covered Killer. Nightmare hadn't realized how much larger he was. Killer hummed slightly at the warmth. Looking down at his paws. "This feels weird... like... not danger. you aren't supposed to feel not danger around others right? but it feels better..." "Safe?" "Safe... Safe is nice.. i think." Killer yawned. laying his head down. it was strange for Nightmare. that someone would find safety around him.. so much different reaction than what Nightmare usually tried to get. but it felt right...

Dust usually wears a scarf around where his wings used to be. he don't like having anyone looking at the scars. The cloak is because he doesn't have wings to trap heat along his body. also i wanted to draw him with a fluffy cloak.

Hi so, about the httyd crossover au, it's mentioned that dream was found in a cave, did he hibernated or something like that?

During the "incident" Dream got trapped deep in an underground cavern incredibly isolated from the rest of the world. It became clear he just couldn't find a way out. Trying to blast out from the inside only seemed to destabilize the cavern and risking the entire thing from crumbling on top of him. Luckily there was underground streams with plenty of fish to survive off of. SO he wouldn't starve or die of thirst. But the lack of any sort of light turned his scales a pale grey. Kind of blending into the rocks.(Turning to stone) Dream was trapped in the caves for a very long time essentially just growing up there. Nightmare thought dream had died during the incident and so never looked for him. Centuries later There was an attack on a village that had been built right above The caves. A pack of more aggressive wild dragons attacking a newer settlement of dragon rider allies. They weren't exactly active hunters or hostile to dragons but didn't like having too many around. It would cost them more resources than they could afford. Being fairly new it wasn't the best secured in food or other resources. The fire of the Wild dragons had opened a small cave. Dream eventually found his way out of the caves. He was absolutely ecstatic and relived to finally be free. But also incredibly fearful of the humans that lived there now. In Dreams time Dragons never where supposed to go near humans. But Being stuck in a cave for YEARS meant Dream was rather bad at flying. So he was going to have to stay close to the island for awhile. And hunting on the surface proved very different than in the caves. Which lead dream to steal bits of food from the humans already there. This of course was not going to go unnoticed as Dream is a large dragon and eats quite a bit. Of course Dream could have gone back to the cave but he was scared he would be trapped down there agian. He never wanted to go back. Blue and Ink Had come over with a few Dragon riders and allied dragons. They had heard of trouble and had come to investigate and help clean up the damage from the attack. This leads to Blue finding Dream. Dream would be wary since blue smells like humans. But also Dream hadn't had much interactions with other dragons for so long. and Blue seemed friendly. Blue Ink and Dream become friends over the course of the next few weeks. Dream eventually getting the courage to show himself to everyone. The sunlight Brightens His scales slowly returning their color. He is happier than he's been for such a long time. But a questions still burns within him. .... What happened to his brother?

Worldbuilding stuff for HTTYD UTAU Crossover au

species and hybrids

The Gang live in an archipelago far from the one in the movies and such. There are Night furies and a regional variant of Light furies that still exist there known as Day furies. There are also the Dusk furies which are hybrids of Day furies and Night furies. The regular light furies still exist they are just very rare to find in this particular area. Dawn furies are the hybrids of a a night fury and a Light fury. Dusk and Dawn furies are more common than any pure breed Night furies or Light furies (this includes day furies).

Hybrids of all types are common due to there often being a lack of same species mates available because of the massive amounts of dragon hunting. Most common hybrids include Deadly Nightmares/ Monstrous Nadders, (deadly nadder/Monstrous nightmares) Storm whips/ Razor cutters (Storm cutter/ Razorwhip) Tripple Skrill (Tripple Stryke/ Skrill) and Gradders ,a surprisingly powerful combination of a Deadly nadder and a Gronkle, Just to name a few. There are many MANY other hybrids found throughout this archipelago.

Shipnesting

Ship nesting is when wild dragons choose to nest or make a den in a still floating abandoned dragon hunter ship. This is very rare though and it is even more rare that the dragons ever choose to learn how to sail the ships or stay long term. Dragons making dens in shipwrecks is an entirely different situation and isn't coinciderd shipnesting.

The gang have gone above and beyond and became dragon pirates. :P

How did the star sanses in the htyyd au meet?

:3 Blue and Ink had been friends for a long while. Blue is a dragon that lives with Humans in a rider village much like berk you could say. Ink is technically a wild dragon that comes and goes as he pleases. Blue and Ink where the ones to find Dream who was kinda stuck in a cave for who knows how long. They where able to fee him and Dream now lives back at the village with Blue and Carrot.

Dream, Blue, and Ink work together to essentially keep peace and try to at least reduce the sheer amount of dragon trappers and hunters. They also try and maintain peace between wild dragons and the ones who live with the humans. Ink is honestly just there for the adventure and hanging out with his friends.

They haven't exactly come face to face with the gang yet but they have found the aftermath of the ship attacks. which are mostly hunter ships but also some are just merchant vessels or other types of boats. The gang do not exactly distinguish between the different types. if it is human boat they see it as an enemy.
