Thank you @hrbertwest for the request, it’s really appreciated! I hope you enjoy this! It’s also the first thing written for this character ever, so I hope I did him justice! I apologize that it’s headcanons and not a fic, I hope it’s okay!

Dale Sterling has been divorced for quite some time and spends more time working than he does at home, not to mention in their small town everyone already knowing everyone else makes the dating pool very limited

He is a little lonely, but is very proud of the work he does, and the downfall of most of his relationships is his focus on work and little else

This begins to become difficult when a new client comes in with their new pet for their first shots, and he starts feeling the way he had decades earlier again

Over the course of a few months, he gets to know them and their pet. It’s a blessing in disguise your pet gets into so much mischief, it means he gets to see you more often.

He’s quite a good vet but that doesn’t mean he won’t be extra thorough in a checkup so that he can ask you about things and properly introduce himself. He comes across as smart and logical to the finish, and you’re almost confused by his interest in you. He’s nothing if not persistent.

(He’s very gentle with the animals you find, he also keeps pictures of all his patients on his walls and knows them all by name, your pet is no exception)

This is not a flirtatious man in the usual sense. This man flirts by discussing work, subtle brags (99th percentile in the MCATs indeed) and when you begin to speak it’s hard not to be rattled by his focus directly on you

He always seems to be focused intently an everything around him, and his eyes can burn through you, and he asks such detailed questions and laughs at your attempted jokes when you make them

When he asks you to dinner out of the blue while getting ready to do an x-ray to look up on a broken bone, you can’t help but say yes

If you’re patient with him and remember that while he might spend more than enough time at work, he’s happy with you and will be with you when you need him most
