FALCO IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› WANG XIAOYE › 19 YEARS OLD › AVIAN PHYSIOLOGY › 3 YEARS ACADEMY
POWER
avian physiology, with the ability to mimic and transform into birds. this includes anything from wing manifestation to full transformation into a bird, specifically raptor species ( birds of prey, i.e eagles, hawks, vultures, falcons ) in his case.
STRENGTHS
- wing manifestation ; he’s able to form wings from his back when he wants to take flight. he has a wingspan of about 14 feet total.
- total transformation ; he can fully transform into certain birds of prey, like eagles, hawks, or falcons.
- nictitating membrane ; a third eyelid, used to cover his eyes to protect them from debris and even shield him from illusions and other powers.
- telescopic vision ; he can zoom his vision in on things, allowing him to see distant objects in magnified scale
WEAKNESSES
- wings ; it’s often painful to extend and retract his wings, as they’re physical and tangible and manifest from his back. his entire body can be sore after he utilizes this ability.
- if he is bound and his back is constricted by anything containing lead, he’s unable to extend his wings since he’s weakened by it ( such as superman vs. kryptonite )
- in the case of his wings becoming injured, they would have to be fully nursed and healed for him to be able to retract them.
- transformation ; it can be difficult or nearly impossible to revert back to his original form, and he can even be forced out of it in certain circumstances or if certain powers are directed towards him.
- if inebriated in any way, he’s unable to use any of his powers or abilities.
- he has a very specific weakness against lead, in which if it’s ingested he can be poisoned and the effects can differ depending on the dosage.
- depending on the severity of an injury in any of his winged or bird forms, it can leave him without the full ability to sustain accurate flight for a period of time.
ORIGINS
a nameless newborn is handed off to be cared for by his adoptive family, the sixteen year old mother with her head in her hands on the hospital bed. her parents didn’t want her to have to care for a child at such a young age, despite her cries, and so her son is immediately sent off to his new family. he’ll have a better life, they tell her, the family that takes him in are much more than deserving of a child and far more prepared than she ever could be. even before his birth, his real mother’s parents arranged for a family without the ability to conceive to take the child, and soon he’s in their care with all paperwork signed and a name written on the birth certificate. wang xiaoye, affectionately nicknamed ‘xiao’. his nursery is around the size of his birth mother’s entire home, every last detail planned to the t, overanalyzed and obsessed over for months in preparation for the child’s arrival.
he’s thought to be the couple’s biological child by all of their family and friends, and is raised believing so without any knowledge of or contact with his biological mother. they made it believable, falsifying photos shared with those close to them and his mother wearing various bumps of fabric underneath her clothing for months until the birth. they told everyone they had a natural home birth, and everyone respected their privacy during that time. growing up, xiao is doted on and spoiled by every member of his family as well as friends of the family, showered in money and material items and affection and compliments.
the wang family was all about power, possessions, prosperity, and most of all… perfection. their only son’s ability to generate claws from his hands and feet, see with perfect vision in pitch black surroundings, and give an exact description of something over a mile away just so happened to put a damper on the last one. these incidences didn’t come up until after his fourth birthday, but after the first time it was impossible to stop them from happening. the claws that came from xiao’s hands in times of fear or anxiousness especially weren’t ideal, and as a four year old it was impossible to control his emotions to stop it from happening in inappropriate times ( in public, at school, et cetera ). it terrified xiao due to his inability to control it, and he was pulled from his private school to be homeschooled due to his parent’s fear of too many people getting the ‘wrong idea’ about their family.
they hired multiple people to care for their son, to help him control his emotions, hone in his powers and discover any abilities he hadn’t already been aware of, and to homeschool him. they only accepted experts in the field of handling superpowers and under their supervision, xiao and his powers flourished. they studied him, tested certain abilities that they’d seen in others matching the ones he already knew of, and encouraged him to try honing in on ones they believed he may possess. it wasn’t until he was covered in wires during a stimulation where, in fighting against an opponent, he was pushed over the edge of a building; while lost in the sensation of ‘falling’, his screams filled the silence as wings forced their way out of his skin near his shoulder blades to save him from the imagined fear of the ground’s impact. with the idea of his true potential in mind, they were finally able to help him hone in on his finally discovered power of avian physiology.
xiaoye was fifteen the first time he considered the avengers academy. he’d been invited to go there when he was younger, but he was afraid to be away from his family and the people taking care of him who he’d become familiar with. afraid to be around people who knew more than him, who were older and more experienced and could put a target on his back because he was young and inexperienced. since he was older, finally more comfortable in his own skin, he brought up the idea to his caregivers and parents. they were accepting, yet hesitant. the closest location was seoul, and he had no knowledge of the korean language. he was determined to learn, however, and spent the next year learning the language with a korean teacher appointed to get him fluent in the language. again, the wang family was infatuated with perfection, and they refused to have their son go to another country with no knowledge of the language to be looked down upon.
a year passed and he felt confident enough in his korean to uproot from his home city and move with one of his caregivers to seoul. she had worked at the academy in previous years before being hired by his parents, and her connections within their walls had him scouted by a friend of hers with promises of his ability to do great things within the academy. the only issue was that he had no knowledge of how to relate with people his own age after spending so much of his formative years with adults and experts so much older than he. he often found himself freezing and simply not speaking when spoken to by other classmates, which led those around him to believe he was either mute or impertinent. the professors, however, took a quick liking to him due to his intelligence and respect towards them.
not too much had changed in the three years he’d been in the academy, and while his powers had only grown under proper teaching and he had come to gain knowledge of his weaknesses as well as strengths, he still had much to learn- especially when it came to interacting with his peers. if someone managed to get close to him, they were able to get past his outer layer of indifference and almost harsh way of speaking. others, however, would prove to not be as lucky. he ended up with a reputation of someone who would become a villain in due time, though professors and close friends of his refused to believe such rumors.

PARITY IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› LEILAH AINE › 23 YEARS OLD › POWER BALANCE › 4 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
Basically, Leilah is able to stabilise or manipulate the balance of things. Not in terms of literal balance (though that is a small part of her powers), but more like in the scales of balance, but literally and figuratively. She can neutralise something if someone’s power is far too unstable, or boost someone’s power, magical, physical, mental using her own manipulation of power balance.
STRENGTHS
Power Neutralisation/Balance: The most basic of all her powers, Leilah is able to stabilise, contain or suppress, or boost any type of power or thing, as long as it works on the idea of neutrality or balance.
Bomb Creation: With the boosting or suppressing of the powers, Leilah is able to create bombs using these pure sources of energy, however she requires to tap into other’s power sources or magical sources in order to create those.
Negation Field: When Leilah fully and purposely loses all her control over her powers, she literally scatters power negation all over the place, creating a field with herself as the core centre that negates every single kind of power in existence, when she tips the scales of balance towards the negative side of the scales to entirely erase powers
Berserk Field: When Leilah fully and purposely loses all her control over her powers and boosts everyone’s powers within the radius of her field, creating a field with herself as the core centre that boosts or replenishes all offensive and defensive powers by leaps and bounds as she tips the scales of balance towards the positive side of the scales to entirely boost powers
WEAKNESSES
Power Neutralisation/Balance requires a great amount of control, concentration as well as precision. With this amount of control, also comes the great amount of focus that Leilah definitely needs, which tires her mental capacity out if she doesn’t have enough mental stamina. She also has to rely on her 8 sided dice totem to help decide the degree of concentration that is needed. If she rolls an 8, the lesser the amount of control needed, since the totem will act as a medium, but the lower the number she rolls, the more the amount of control, as well as the deeper the mental duress.
Power Neutralisation/Balance also makes her incredibly vulnerable to physical attacks, because she has to fully focus on the essence of balance and control whilst using her powers, and focus everything on her mental stamina and state.
Bomb Creation’s weakness is the fact that Leilah requires a SOURCE in order to create these bombs of power. She has to tap (physically touch the person) into a pre-existing source in order to create these power bombs, and she cannot create bombs out of inanimate objects. It needs to be something like electricity, magic, hex/chaos powers, viruses/ sicknesses etc.
Bomb Creation’s other weakness is that it requires immense focus and imaginative visualisation. If the visualisation of the form of the bomb and the focus to accurately suppress the bomb’s power is not enough, the bomb may end up exploding before its even used, and injure Leilah in the process.
Negation Field’s weakness is that it has her as the core centre, whilst releasing all her power’s reigns means that she’s able to wreak havoc in other areas, Negation Field only has a range of 25 meters, and its only in circular form, like a dome.
Negation Field’s other weakness is that it has a time limit. Leilah is only able to hold the field for 10 minutes, before everything starts automatically balancing out due to the innate nature of her own powers.
Berserk Field’s weakness is its time limit, which has a duration of 15 minutes. Leilah can hold the field longer if she experiences intense emotions, but she cannot control who she boosts within her field, which also means that usually her enemies get boosted as well, as soon as they step within her Berserk Field. However, she can narrow down her focus into wrapping the field around specific individuals and connecting them by a thin line of connection, which would render her mentally tired after using it (usually requiring sleep), as well as physical vulnerable when she’s concentrating.
Berserk Field’s other weakness is its backlash, the scales of balance cannot tolerate the sudden boosting of powers without dealing an equal backlash on the user, hence Leilah suffers all the punishment of whoever uses their powers within the Berserk Field freely for the duration of 15 minutes. (she will fall into a coma for a couple of days, physical wounds will appear etc.)
ORIGINS
Leilah doesn’t remember her parents. For as long as she’d remembered, she’d been just called Girl, for most of her childhood life. After all, there were far too many orphans within the orphanage in Ireland, and the matrons of the Aife Children’s Orphanage didn’t want to get too attached to the children that all seemed to die so easily. Or at the very least—that was until Leilah appeared.
They tell her that it had to be a goddess of Celtic origin that had sent her (she’d been found, wet, bundled and abandoned on the doorstep of the orphanage) , fed her the fantastical story that all children wanted to hear—a child of a moon goddess, perhaps, for her skin as pale as moonlight. Moon-kissed, blessed by the gods—though that was only found out when she lived within that orphanage, nameless, for five long years. Leilah had always been more intelligent than the other children, more..self-aware, as though something else was within the solemn girl.
The event that had bestowed Leilah her name had been a tragic one. One of death and sickness, or a close shave with death. Sister Miranne had been ill, and Leilah couldn’t bear to watch the woman who had been on of the nicer matrons that had taken care of her, just simply…fade away. Her tiny feet had shuffled into the sick room, quarantined for all their safety, and staunchly guarded, the eight sided dice that Sister Miranne had given her as a birthday present balancing perfectly in her palm as she braced herself on her toes and spun the dice.
If the number lands on anything above 5, I will touch her.
Leilah had the inkling that she could do something, though the something was something that she didn’t understand or know…yet.
The dice falls to an eight, and Leilah reaches for the woman’s hand.
Sister Miranne miraculously stabilises the very next day, the illness still ravaging her body, but less rabid, less….unequalised.
Leilah is on the swing, apart from the other children of the orphanage, who despise her for her dark hair, dark eyes and Asian features—but the touch of Sister Miranne’s hand on her back is a deeply reassuring one.
“ Thank you.” She tilts her head up and blinks at Sister Miranne, whose cheeks were still sallow from her ordeal. “I felt you take something away. Thank you.”
Wrong. Leilah didn’t bother correcting her, simply shrugging in a laidback manner, eyes lightly flickering.
“ I’m glad you’re alright.” She’d always been too matured for her age, unsettling even, at times, but Sister Miranne smiles at her for once, eyes creasing as the corners of her lips curl upwards happily.
“I’ve decided a name for you, want to hear it?” It’s the first time that her interest is stirred, and Leilah shifts in her seat.
"Leilah Aine. Leilah is for the night, the dark haired beauty, and Aine—radiance and light, after the goddess wealth and summer that we believe in.”
….
Leilah doesn’t remember how the academy finds her either (rumours of a girl with the ability to counter death and heal had reached the academy’s ears)—partially because she didn’t really care, and partially because she truly forgot all about it. But they did, and she ends up enrolling in (one of the sisters told on her) the school for heroes. These people whisk her off from the orphanage that she’s known as her home for her entire nineteen years of her life, amidst screams, tears and the refusal that warps Leilah as they pry her fingers away from Sister Miranne’s hands, who lets her go as quickly as she grabs her hands, who she’s come to see as someone like her own mother.
Such betrayal. She only watches as the Sister takes another child’s hand with a smile and leads the younger girl back into the house, the words of the heroes that had come to take her in ringing in her ears.
That woman. She gave you up to us. Leilah’s eyes only fall on the 8-sided dice, spinning it between her fingers as they seek to find the answer to the kind of power she has.
Power Balance. Neutrality. Equilibrium. Even they couldn’t pinpoint a singular name to what was described as her power.
It’s a good power. They keep telling her. You can save people. Be a hero.
But the point was—Leilah didn’t want to be a hero. What was so great about being a hero? She just wanted to be Lei. Normal, gentle, and quiet—Lei. To her surprise, school is pretty normal—at least until they find out that she can balance and negate powers, and she’s almost everywhere in case any mishap. Training sessions, regular sessions, anger management classes—literally everywhere where there was an ounce of danger—Leilah was there.
And fuck did she really hate it. It wasn’t as though she was immortal, or could get away from any danger—she was mortal, and injuries fucking hurt.
But powers weren’t choices either, and apparently, being heroes weren’t choices either—because within months of her being everywhere negating powers and saving people, she received the invite into the Divine Nine.
“…Can I reject this?”
“Don’t you want to save people?”
No—she doesn’t tell them that as she accepts the card after rolling the 8 sided dice in her pocket. I just want to be normal and alone.
The number lands on the lucky number 7, but Leilah is anything but lucky.

ENCHANTRESS IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› PARK SOOJIN › 23 YEARS OLD › HOMO MAGI PHYSIOLOGY › 3 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
homo magi physiology. soojin is a homo magi, a human born with the affinity to manipulate magic. her unique genetic structure allows her to use the magic she was born with as well as learned mystic arts. as a tribute to her father, and as a focus for her spells, she casts spells by speaking backwards or “logomancy”. for example, saying “pots” would cause the target of the spell to stop in their tracks. those in her family are feared and famed as one of the most powerful magic users on the mortal plane.
STRENGTHS
+spell casting: soojin can cast spells, which is a procedure for producing specific magical effects. this is often a series of words that take effect when spoken, though others are able to cast spells merely by thinking, with gestures, with magical objects or through a ritual of some sort.
+prestidigitation: sometimes called “slight of hand”, it is a term used to describe soojin’s ability to manipulate objects such as cards or coins secretly. a popular tactic among cardsharps, magicians and stage performers. sleight of hand is not a separate branch of magic, but rather one of the means used by a sorcerer to produce an effect. it can be contrasted with the flourish, where the sorcerer intentionally displays skills, such as the ability to cut cards one-handed, which is akin to juggling. soojin is a skilled homo magi and an expert illusionist, therefore performing extraordinary (real) tricks and incredible illusions is simple to her.
+astral projection: soojin can release her astral form from her body, instantaneously and at will. In this form she does not need to breathe, eat, drink or sleep, is unrestricted by physical laws. her consciousness can leave her physical body and travel to other planes of existence.WEAKNESSES
-soojin casts her spells by saying the words of her incantations backwards. mnemonic incantation is the most complicated of the mystic arts. on one occasion, an assassin delivered a direct blow to her father’s liver, initiating a regurgitation reaction. she must be able to speak or read backwards in order for her to focus her spells.
-powerful enchantments against beings of magic, like gods, are able to restrict her as well, preventing her from accessing enchanted places or dispel the adverse charm. harmful magical realms such as hell can also hinder how often she can speak her spells and can cause her great physical damage.
-another weakness is that soojin, despite all her spells and magical training, is only humanoid physically. hence, if not taking proper care or defenses, soojin can be overpowered by mere blows, energy attacks, or gas. while technically her homo magi physiology grants her a lifespan greater than a mere homo sapien, she still must eat, sleep and breathe in order to survive.
-a fact not known by many people is that the use of magic takes a physical toll on its user. during her first lessons, soojin vomited for three days straight because of this. as years went by, soojin’s body changed so much her stomach cannot even accept human food and can only ingest that which would kill a normal person.
-soojin’s power is weaker against strictly science-based opponents.
-incorrect pronunciation of a spell may have negative effects (such as the spell being thrown back at soojin, or producing a different effect than expected).
-magic wand: usually, soojin is often seen with a magic wand, although whether it is a stage prop or an actual focus for her power remains unknown (it is). she does require it though, considering her appearances without one are extremely rare and need to be able to cast spells effectively.
-magician’s hat: soojin can project energies/things out from her hat or even take out any equipment she needs. It is also unknown if it’s just a stage prop or a focus for her power (it sure is). and just like her wand, she does need it in order to use her magical powers.
ORIGINS
Park Soojin is born December 1, 8690, to loving parents and old sister. She is the second of two, the youngest by four years. She takes her first steps on the cobbled streets of Bleecker Street, and makes her first friend with the other babies being raised on the streets, Mrs. Bradshaw’s little boy, and the triplets of the owners of the Khan’s Deli. The first word out of her lips trickles out when her father is brewing an elixir, and Soojin wants to get her attention so she smacks her tiny fists against the table and calls out for ‘appa!’ as loud as she can, and doesn’t even flinch when she hears a glass bottle tumble from her mother’s hands and her father’s yelp of joy. She is raised with loving parents, as well as loving grandparents, and not many changes - at least, until her fourth birthday. (That’s when they move into their townhouse in lower Manhattan - it’s not that far from sanctum, but just far enough to keep up pretenses.)
Soojin is seven, already somewhat magically adept, when her oldest sister is sent to the academy and the last child is born. They have a head of dark hair that rivals Soojin’s own, and when she meets them, she laughs until she cries, and the joy in the New York Hospital room was palpable. They’re born early, and her mother has been off her feet for the past three months at a healer’s order, so Soojin has been covering for her - all bright smiles and sunshine, always effervescent, asking if they need anything and whirling herself across the tiled floors in an effort to please everyone. She’d long since learned how to carry four sundae bowls at once, and the only difference this time was that she wouldn’t be doing it under her mother’s supervision - she’d be on her own, with her father behind the service desk, with their other employees, especially as though there were, in reality, so few of them.
Her younger sibling follows Soojin everywhere, in time. They are her first companion, her best friend while her older sister was away. She helped them take their first steps, helped them when they were learning to use a knife and fork. She’d carry them around the house, around the streets, to introduce them to people she’d known all her life, and all those they’d known in the sanctum, too. She read them bedtime stories when her parents couldn’t, when they were cataloging stock or closing up. (Their father always hated when he had to let them do it magically - he wasn’t a stickler for too many things, but he was whenever it came to locking up after a long days’ work.) She told them all the stories about the academy that she’d heard from her sister, with a tiny bit of embellishment, changing up each story whenever she was asked to tell them one. Her favorites, though, were the tales of the avengers, and putting on silly voices and pulling silly faces. It always got the biggest laugh out of them.
Soojin hadn’t actually owned a wand, but she’d learned everything from her father. He was as good with a wand as she was with spellcasting, and that was a skill he gave to his daughter. Her first show of magic was when she was just a baby - she’d flung her fists out in the middle of a tantrum and as she had done so, the window had exploded. It had resulted in less than a minute of clean-up, but many hours of laughter and joy on her father’s part - they’d been so sure she’d be as great a sorceress as possible, but it only proved that power ran through her bones and veins as much as her love of life would come to. She got her first wand from the sanctum, a gift, although the wand wood used for her wand was anything but conventional, and it felt like an extension of her hand more than it did anything else, more than it did a piece of wood.
After Soojin gets her acceptance into the academy, there’s a celebration held within the sanctum. It’s been a long while since they’ve been able to hold a celebration like that - the majority of those who reside near the sanctum are too old to have children, and those who do, are rare. She dances with her father, who’s the most sad about letting her go - he never attended avengers academy, he’d gone to Tibet, and been trained his grandfather, the sorcerer supreme. He doesn’t get to hear about her using a sling ring to create her first portal or mystical texts she chooses from the sanctum library. It feels wrong, somewhere inside him, that she doesn’t get the same experience he did. But, she doesn’t care. She’s more excited than anyone on the street to get to avengers academy just as her older sister had.
After getting her wand, she spent hours pouring over books on wands and mystic arts, how sorcerers before her crafted them, obtains the cores themselves because one doesn’t trust anybody else to do the job right, to do it ethically. She memorizes everything she learns, even though she knows, even then, she isn’t going to make a career crafting sorcerer wands. (She’ll care for the mystic arts, like her role model (the Sorcerer Supreme), or be an Avenger, because they’re brave and heroic, like she is, or do something of that sort.).
In the weeks, months, leading up to the academy, she asks her father to buy her a magical hat. It doesn’t leave her bedside. It’s a miracle that she doesn’t climb out of the windows to buy her things early, at least by her parents reckoning, because she takes her sibling out every day, and sometimes, she’s not back when she’s supposed to - and she comes back with a sparkle in her eye that wasn’t there before, and a grin on her face that says she knows something they don’t, and it makes them laugh. (She hardly ever gets in trouble for it, because they know she means well, and she always brings them back, happy and sated and, most important, by her mother’s reckoning.) Soojin talked about the academy constantly. She wanted to be part of welcoming committee for the academy, because it sounded like the right fit for her, it was the group her sister was chosen for - another check on the ‘odd one out’ list for sorcerers. It had been virtually unheard of that a Park wasn’t trained in the mystic arts by those taught by the Sorcerer Supreme like her father, and the trend was, again, bucked by some of Soojin’s cousins following that. Avenger’s Academy was the place for people who weren’t afraid of trouble. The ones who stand up for others, who are brave and bold and strong in their will and full of fire. (She finds that eerily similar to herself, even then. Her father agreed. Soojin has always known herself, even if that phrase sounds odd to those who are still seeking, still searching.)
The trip to academy is unremarkable. She sits alone, for the most part, and spends her time reading until she spots the compound between the rolling hills and fields, and realises she’s forgotten to put on her mystic attire, and when she comes back, the Quinjet nearly rolled to a stop and she can’t stop herself from jumping up and down, all alone, in that tiny compartment. It looks like everything she’s ever dreamed of, all the stories compiled into one, and she can only imagine the stories she’ll have after she comes out of there, twenty-six and probably terrified of the world around her. (She doesn’t know how wrong she is.) Her welcome experiences barely lasts a second. She spends the rest of the time questioning to herself, because a small part of her knew there was that chance she would have trouble. Of course she had some doubt. It’s nearly as eventful as the Quinjet ride over. There’s a part of her that feels oddly melancholy that she’s not studying under her father, although she seems to be one on her own, but that’s okay. She finally gets to come into her own, the way that she chooses to. (Of course, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t come to surround herself with people anyway – that doesn’t mean when the dorm fills with other people, she isn’t.)
Her first year is quiet, but she excels. She works as hard as anyone she knows, even those much older than herself. Of course, the year does come with a few surprises - she goes home for Christmas, and she finds that her older sister is home from her travels in Europe, and she’s overjoyed to discover she’ll be an aunt. The thing she isn’t happy about is the possibility she won’t be around to meet them when everyone else will, but, her sister states that fear by telling her that the baby isn’t due until the Easter holidays, and then, she’ll be home. She gets detention for the first time in her first year, too, when she spots some other kids being bullied by the timeless archives and can barely control her temper before there’s a rudimentary hex thrown the bullies way, and they can’t stumble away fast enough. She’s not even sure if they’re freshmen or not, but she doesn’t care - she doesn’t like bullies, and she never compromises on that. It’s not really a surprise that that’s how she meets one of the girls that goes on to become one of her best friends, one of the puzzle pieces in her life that she never knew she was missing. (It’s not that much of a surprise that she attracts people like a moth to a flame, but the friendship she forms with her, and then with them, is more than that. It’s life-changing.)
Her second year is when things change. There’s a new baby at home, and it feels weird for Soojin that she isn’t at home to help. (She begs her mother not to send her back, because she doesn’t want to be stuck at the academy when her baby niece is at home, without her, and there are no bedtime stories, or midnight feedings, or teaching magic tricks, and it feels wrong. Her father reminds her of how much she loves the academy, how much she enjoys being there, and it doesn’t take long for Soojin to reconcile it by telling herself that she’ll be there for Christmas, and Easter, and Summer.) She gets sent photos of the baby, waving her fists at the camera, or smiling, all gummy, and things get easier. When second year ends and third year comes rolling through, there’s a pace that she keeps up with. Always working hard, to be one step ahead of her past self. Exceptional at spellcasting, ironically, because it’s the closest thing to her father as she can get, when she’s at the academy. Nothing Soojin has ever done has been conventional, but it’s always been frowned upon. And yet, that restriction only fuels her in continuing with her ambitions into her new academy term.

MEDIUM IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› CHA HANEUL › 25 YEARS OLD › NECROMANCY › 6 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
necromancy, also known as necrokinesis or death magic, is the ability to manipulate the dead, death-force and death energy.
STRENGTHS
- ability to contact the dead
- death sense - ability to sense when somebody or something is dying or their life is in danger
- death-force manipulation - use of energy that causes things to wither and die - abilities are strongest in places of death (cemeteries, hospitals, morgues etc.)
- immortality
WEAKNESSES
- no control over contacting the dead so he always sees ghosts even when he doesn’t want to and has difficulty summoning specific ghosts
- can always hear ghosts even when he’s talking to the living etc. which can get very annoying especially when trying to sleep
- while he can sense death, he cannot sense the cause of the death
- powers are useless against wilders of life-force manipulation or absorption
-powers are particularly weak in places of life (forests, crowded places etc.)
- when he is particularly emotional or unstable, he struggles to control his powers, leading to the death or withering of living things around him (not people, mostly just plants or small animals/insects)
- though he cannot kill other people, it is still common for him to make people around him feel weaker, sleepy or sick, especially when he is emotional or struggling with control
- while he is immortal, he cannot prolong the death of others nor can he resurrect dead things without a pet sematary situation happening
- he can see ghosts, but the ghosts provide no benefit to him. they do not make him stronger, nor can he absorb their energy or use them in any beneficial way
ORIGINS
tw; mental illness, suicide and drugs
in the beginning, growing up in incheon was normal for the most part. his parents were hard workers, as most middle-class koreans were, and spent majority of their time earning money in order to give their son the best life they could. despite his powers coming in at a rather young age, unlike most mutants, it went unnoticed by most. haneul spoke more to the air than he did to his parents. his first words were spoken to seemingly nothing. but, every kid has imaginary friends, right? that’s what his parents thought.
as he got older, his imaginary friends didn’t disappear. in fact, they multiplied. it was troublesome for the cha family to wake up every night to haneul’s screams, saying that his friends wouldn’t shut up. this, followed by constantly finding the kid with dead animals around him, and the weakness and sickness the parents began to feel while around him was concerning. he was 13 year old, and only getting worse.
what could the parents do? they were middle-class, popular and highly skeptic people. mutants? aliens? more like tv-effects and propaganda. when it began happening before their own eyes, denial struck and they searched for the easiest way possible to take haneul out of their hands without causing a stir with their friends. so, they did what any ‘loving’ parents would do for a sick child; they put him in the hospital.
at first, visits were regular, but after a year or so haneul had seen the last of them and he knew it. the boy then spent all of his teen years bouncing from hospital to hospital, neglected by staff and patients alike, and treated like a schizophrenic. the only company haneul ever had was the dead, and while some were nice, he couldn’t escape the traumatised and demented spirits that haunted the place. seven years trapped in hospitals, and haneul didn’t have a single good memory. his fondest memory, however, the one that changed his life, was the day he was set free.
well, almost free. sure, he was being moved from one institution to another, but this was unlike anything he had every heard of. an academy for gifted people? he, nor anyone, had every thought of his abilities as a gift. learning that he could do something with himself here, instead of being abused and alone every day, changed his life forever. and while he doesn’t often seem appreciative of it, he would rather be here than anywhere else.
personality and present day:
sarcastic, goofy and overdramatic are the three most common words to hear in association with haneul. being sheltered for most of his childhood seemed to have caused him to have a child-like personality in his adulthood. while he fails to take a lot of things seriously, he does care about doing well in school despite his struggling. sarcasm and humour tend to be a defence mechanism for him, as he refuses to let anyone else know when he is suffering.
since leaving the hospital, haneul has enjoyed making the most of his freedom, often being reckless in the process. his relationship with drugs and alcohol is an extremely unhealthy one, but also something that few know about. being fully aware of his immortality from his teenage suicidal days, haneul often doesn’t care for his own safety and will happily skip along the corners of roofs or put his body through more pain than is necessary.
while he is reckless and sarcastic, he is not intentionally mean. he’s bluntly honest a lot of the time, but he is also extremely caring and protective of the people he cares about. love isn’t something he particularly understands and often gets confused and flustered about it, causing him to push it away even without meaning to, but even after six years he is still trying to grasp how to interact with people, and not the dead.
one of the oldest students that isn’t yet a senior, haneul’s progress in school has been hindered by his reckless antics and abuse of substances, causing him to be held back and deemed as unfit to graduate by the leaders of the school. while he wants to do well and become a better person, haneul struggles with expressing himself and doesn’t know how to ask for help.

MIMESIS IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› TAKANASHI KIYOJI › 20 YEARS OLD › ADAPTIVE POWER REPLICATION › 5 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
ADAPTIVE POWER REPLICATION. ➣Kiyoji has the ability to instantly copy/mimic any physical or psychic skill/ability/power/mutation/etc. and use it as his own once it has been used against him, or after he is exposed to the effects. Once he replicates an ability he temporary becomes instantly immune to it.
STRENGTHS
➣Kiyoji is capable of mimicking the psychic energy outputs, genetic structure or superhuman physiology that enable skills/mutations/enhanced abilities in other people. ➣He can replicate in equal capacity to the original user, and can utilize the copied power instantly. ➣ He can stack several enhancements/abilities/powers together into one larger power mix. ➣ As part of an innate self-defense Kiyoji’s body re-actively even replicates powers that were used on him as an unexpected attack, making him capable of survival while still copying a skill/power/ability that was just used on him.
WEAKNESSES
➣ Kiyoji has to experience a skill/power/power first hand before being able to replicate it (if he is hit with a super-strength punch, he can get up and sock you back, hit by energy beams, can blast energy beam, etc). ➣ Pain. Exposure to some (most) abilities are really unpleasant to experience first hand. ➣ Kiyoji cannot replicate powers he can’t personally experience first hand mentally or physically. (for example generative healing only works on the user in offense, so he could not replicate it.) ➣Involuntary responses. Kiyoji has no “control” over if he’ll replicates powers or not, from the moment he’s been exposed his body will replicate the ability for 48 hours. ➣ Most abilities effects fade within 48 hours and must be “re-experienced” in order for Kiyoji to utilize them again. ➣ Some of his copied powers do not mix well, causing various problems. ➣ Kiyoji puts his body under intense strain by taking hits off other abilities, him getting injuries is very common. He’s the “trips to the infirmary” champion. ➣ Kiyoji cannot copy the powers of users of Power Negation, Mimicry Immunity and Singularity.
ORIGINS
For a long as he could remember, Kiyoji could take a “hit” and deal it back like a vicious kind of echo. In fact being able to take a hit and giving as good as you got to defend yourself, was almost a requirement in the Takanashi family of seven rowdy “super enhanced” boys. Back then being youngest, smallest (and thus the “runt”), Kiyoji looked for every opportunity to show off his unusual skill almost as soon as it began to manifest. No fight was too small, no chaos to great, and no bully was too big. He was the smallest and the most fearless Takanashi, looking for any reason to start and finish any and all skirmishes.
By the time he was a tween, Kiyoji and his brothers had few outlets of entertainment in their small rural village, and it wasn’t long before the ineffectual parenting of a disinterested alcoholic enhanced father and overburden unpowered mother left them to their own devices. Truth be told the boys were all but feral throughout childhood, vicious and remorseless without the guiding hand of adults. Still family was family, and Kiyoji would have died for his own, and nearly did a few times as his somewhat sadistic hoodlum brothers were magnets for all things trouble (both making and finding).
It wasn’t long before the concerned (and no doubt terrified) villagers reported the neglect of the Takanashi children, and child protective authorities swooped in to round up the little rabid super powered tween and pre-teen miscreants (rumor has it it took nearly a week and two local police precincts working in unison to round up the “Takanashi Demons”). Early on the decision was made that there was no way the children could stay together, they had been without rules or discipline for far too long, and were displaying obvious signs of “anti-social” aggressive behavior. They were separated, and spread to prefectures all over Japan into fostering families. However, Kiyoji having the least civility of any of his brothers, would not settle into his new life gracefully. He went through various foster homes like water (and even turned a few INTO water). After an incident at his final group home placement in Tokyo (which may or may not have involved rioting children, rampant wildfires, a monsoon, an earthquake and lots of unauthorized use of military high grade explosives), the decision was made to “student exchange” Kiyoji to the Avengers Academy in South Korea.
Maybe it’s the different country, maybe it’s was breathing mountain air that wasn’t clouded with the expectations of being one of the “Demon Seven”, but something changed within Kiyoji. Picking up the finer points of being a student in a real school each day, he is learning to be his own separate individual without his brothers influence. He’s took up his own interests (the most notable of which being weight training, modern dance and swimming) and found he did actually LIKE the civilized world (well most of it, he still thinks speaking and learning Korean is a pain in the ass. Especially since swearing in Japanese usually works better.). Overall, he has tried to reform himself (mostly), and he only gets into fights “sometimes” now (on the upside he doesn’t start them anymore in order to “power-up”, but will certainly finish them with anyone who wants to dance.). Mainly he tries to be helpful, useful and “good” cause he wants to be seen as a hero to people one day, despite the fact he is secretly pretty sure he was born into a family destined for super villainy.

JABBERWOCK IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› TAKANASHI SORA › 22 YEARS OLD › DRAGON PHYSIOLOGY › 1 YEAR IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
dragon physiology, to use the abilities of and tranform into a dragon
STRENGTHS
- wing manifestation - can manifest bat-like wings and use them to fly
- fire breath
- rough, fire-proof skin - while it is a dragon’s skin, it appears as human skin does, although feels a lot rougher
- full transformation - can transform fully into his dragon form
WEAKNESSES
- like people can get out of breath, fire breath works the same, it is not an endless supply and can often ‘run out’
- the fire he breaths is very difficult to control. he has a severe lack of aim and control when he uses the fire
- while his skin is fire-proof, it does not protect him from other forms of harm
- both transforming into his full dragon form and manifesting wings is incredibly painful. bones are broken and rearranged and his skin is stretched, so he tries not to do this often
- he cannot always control full transformations, if he is particularly emotional or angry (hulk style), he cannot control transformation, which, for a 250 foot-long dragon, can be rather inconvenient
- when he is also particularly emotional, his dragon form can sometimes take a mind of its own and just start destroying shit. he works hard to gain back control and fly away
- transforming back into human form is a waiting game, he doesn’t know when it will happen so he just has to wait it out
- in human form, the same energy is used up from flying as it would be from running, so flying for prolonged periods of time is difficult
ORIGINS
every child is shaped by their role-models. parents, siblings, teachers, grandparents etc.. it didn’t help sora’s development much when both of his parents were dead-beat and the only 'models’ he had were five deranged, reckless older brothers. so, of course, he turned out just the same. compared to his brothers, however, sora was always the quieter one. he never went looking for trouble when it didn’t suit him, but he was ready for it when it came. he wasn’t good at much except setting fires and manifesting his feelings, which resulted in a lot of anger inside a boy so young.
since he was a kid, he always knew he would be enhanced, just like his dad and the rest of his brothers, but his powers always seem to pale in comparison to everybody else. even his younger brother was more powerful than him when they were kids. but sora was a very angry child. angry at his brothers, angry at his parents and the world, to the point where it would build inside him, ready to burst. at first, his powers seem to simply be breathing and being resistant to fire, but one day, in his early teens, the boy lost it and lashed out. punching the walls and yelling seemed normal, but it changed when the yells turned to screams and the sounds of bones cracking could be heard clear as day. in front of everyone’s eyes, the small boy had transformed completely into a fully-grown dragon, who was continuing to wreak havoc on the town and destroy everything. eventually, his brothers calmed him and he changed back, scarred only by what he had done. then, he realised, he was stronger than he thought.
it wasn’t long before the brothers’ torment on the town was put to an end, with each of them being sent their separate ways. this only made sora more angry. he didn’t want to be trapped in some foster home with normal kids. kids that didn’t understand. so he ran. after only a few days of being homeless and alone, sora became the kid that ran away and joined the circus. it was a dream. they loved him, they loved what he could do and loved setting him on fire for the public to see. it wasn’t until yet another lash out that they discovered the truth. instead of seeing him as a monster, they saw it as an opportunity and threw him in a cage as soon as they could. for the rest of the years he spent there, he was treated as the animals were. whipped, unfed, chained down and forced to perform. five years. five years he spent in a cage before escaping, burning down the entire circus as he flew as far as he could, vowing that he would never let anybody put him in a cage ever again.
it took a couple weeks of asking around to find at least one of his brothers. everyone, like him, seemed to have gone awol. the youngest, and the least intimidating, he learned had gone to a school in seoul for the enhanced. if there was anywhere to start rounding up brothers again, it was there, with the youngest. sora enrolled in the school almost a year ago, keeping a close eye on his brother and trying to keep his anger under control while he’s there.
sora is the typical leather jacket, cigarette-smoking, motorcycle-riding charming bad boy that everybody hates to love. he’s always wearing a smile and charming everyone he meets, but he is far from the sweet guy that most people see. he’s full of anger still hateful of the world and wishful of seeing it burn. until he can reach that goal, however, he’s happy with lying back and making the most of his new-found freedom. his trauma from the circus has made him touchy with certain things, like small spaces, bars on windows and clowns. he fucking hates clowns.

GAMBIT IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› SUN ZUNXIAN › 24 YEARS OLD › ELECTROMAGNETISM MANIPULATION › 1 YEAR IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
The ability to harness electromagnetic energy, the subject can manifest and shape the very source of electromagnetism. Unable to manipulate gravity, however, electromagnetic energy comprises of light, magnetism, electricity, and radiation as a compound with electromagnetic properties.
STRENGTHS
Electrical Telekinesis: the ability to alter matter in forms of applying electricity and/or electromagnetism.
Electromagnetic Attacks: the ability to exert and/or project electromagnetic energy in differentiating shapes, intensities, and forms.
Electromagnetism Generation: the ability to create raw electromagnetic force, incorporating magnetic fields and electricity.
WEAKNESSES
01. The user is ultimately weak upon an opponent with anti-electromagnetic related abilities.
02. Distance, mass, volume, precision, shape, and size depend on the likelihood of knowledge, skill, and strength of one’s natural capabilities.
03. Upon being exposed to heat (when manipulating electromagnetic radiation), the mutant is not “immune” to the energy if absorbed into the skin, etc. He is openly endangering himself regarding his health: eye-related complications and/or injuries caused by heat and its radiation. May suffer from skin related complications or wherever exposed if the power has failed to be applied carefully.
04. All attacks/abilities involving electricity cannot be rendered against water-based powers. Mental stability is highly looked upon when putting various abilities to use.
05. The mutant may weaken with lacking energy, whether during the performance in which the ability has been activated or as the conclusion of an aftermath.
06. Allowing other distractions to interfere with the process of manifesting energy/the ability itself has a possibility of inflicting oneself, property, or others. May include inflicting unintentional wounds on oneself. May also include cases of which electromagnetic energy/power emit in times of mental/emotional distress, trauma, etc.
07. Self-imposed exhaustion/drain (including dehydration, overheating of one’s body, sporadic blindness, etc) can result from consequences such as using too much energy over time or all at once.
ORIGINS
ACT ONE
The revolt of beggary.
The world beneath his feet, a tireless metropolis. Its grounds divided. The citizens, powerless. The age of relief, a century of gene-determined protection. An era of science, for that believers of Christ and the power of temples, will soon fall. Yet she prays, and prays, and prays to an invisible entity unseen to the eye.
There is not a soul on the margins of Taichung more hopeful, more faithful than the impoverished. The poor cling to beliefs and depend on thousands of a man’s made up prophecies. Mother is growing frail and old and her prayers are coursing between the thinning walls of what home used to be. As the years’ progress, his trust in God begins to decline.
154.46NT$, case of fresh water. 294.05NT$, one and a half pound of ground beef. 38.69NT$, mixed vegetables.
God is void. Humans are destined for survival. The police begin to talk of a young boy with unkempt eyebrows wanted for thievery. “A mutant?” one would ask, a cigarette between the index and middle finger. “No, not quite,” for he was still of average height, a very young boy he was, dwelling between lost of innocence and ill endurance.
He traded his childhood to feed a family of four and provided a roof over their heads. “Welcome to Taichung,” he’d say. Plastic beads of all colors in transparent threading spilling from his blotched hands, “these are prayer beads from the Tzushan Buddhist temple. Make a wish, pray, and believe in it with all your heart. Your wishes and deepest desires will come true.” Sometimes in English. Maybe in Korean. Or Japanese. Taiwanese Mandarin or Cantonese, again, if he’s lucky. Foreigners flock with wide eyes and swollen pockets, “only for 619.38NT$.” Sometimes they’ll make a purchase, or sway with an alluded excuse, perhaps they don’t have cash. “Are you from Osaka? I know Kansai dialect too.”
Adaptation.
ACT TWO
Tianjin is unusual. With its towering cathedrals cutting the clouds, the city is nestled on the edge of the sea. Father no longer is a printer with his gnarled hands and lowered head, eyes parallel to the floor. His skin is dusted with sunspots during the summer, still, an aging man of strenuous work that only fishermen know.
Tolerably, the days are forgiving. Sun Zunxian betrays the former life of a defrauder and his optimism affords him an interest in pursuing academics. He thinks to himself, how wonderful it’d be if someday, he could create an honest fortune.
The world is almost perfect.
Even if the gene capable people, somewhere in the mainland, are reprimanded for their powers. The world is almost perfect. Even if families were torn from each other in suspicion of mutant activity, the world is almost perfect.
He taps his fingers along the cool, metal desk, separating him from the interrogation officer. He thinks of the fridge at home, plenty of food for mother to prepare.
“Sun Zunxian, I hereby appoint you to four years of mandatory military service in the People’s Liberation Army as the traitor to humankind, the mutant.”
ACT THREE
His jaw was wide, square-shaped almost, the upper row of teeth hung over the undermost set. The eyes were narrow. His ears large, perking from the sides of his angular head, forehead lightly swept with dark spots, the scarring a shape of an asymmetrical circle with edges that frayed, a consequence from the end of a bayonet, just by its looks. The bridge of his nose crooked and bruised, the blood vessels broken beneath the skin, coagulating in hues of murky greys and blues. His sparse, uneven eyebrows arched, unruly, his hands were disfigured, bent out of shape, though there were two tattered strips of skin at his shins, tanned. He was extraordinary in height, his legs large and healthy of muscle. His shoulders were broad, his chest ceased to heave. The possibility that he’d once used to have a physically demanding job– a firefighter, maybe.
Wong Yuanchuan, 27, a construction worker.
The man he had killed.
Sun Zunxian was nineteen when he had committed legalized murder. Justified in protecting his country, the People’s Republic of China. Three years later, a Golden Medallion wrapped around his neck, honored for courage in action against the enemy.
If only he had been human. If only he had convinced himself how blessed were the powerless, that he, too, wouldn’t bear the mutant’s curse.
ACT FOUR
He doesn’t make his return a year after service. A friend in combat speaking of an academy dedicated to those with unexplainable abilities reminisces in his memory.
“Like us, huh?” “Just like us.”
His mother, especially weary, presses her ear against the house phone, “will you be okay? Tianjin is always home for you to come back.”
He stares at the academy’s emblem up top on the front of the building.
He tells his mother how much he loves her and bids farewell.

BEAST BOY IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› KO HOJUN › 16 YEARS OLD › ANIMAL MORPHING › 3 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
the ability to animal morph is just that — an occurrence done only through the psionic reformations of one’s cells at will to assume forms of animals. the process is usually quite painless, with the exception of changing the entire bone structure, body mass, and other distinctive features into an animal’s.
STRENGTHS
- gains all physical abilities, attributes and characteristics of the animal he’s shifted into (superhuman speed, i.e. cheetah etc), though retains human intellect, memories and ability to talk. also applies to creatures not of earth and their particular abilities (heat vision or whatever).
- technically CAN morph into other mutants or humans (but he prefers not to).
- as of late, he’s been able to shift specific parts of an animal (i.e. arms into wings for flight, fish gills to breathe underwear, etc) rather than making the full shift altogether.
- given the constant rearrangement of his genetic structure and cells, this also highly amplifies his healing abilities.
WEAKNESSES
- all forms otherwise would all be green by appearance (kale-colored dog, bird, etc). making it hard for him to blend in.
- in terms of mutants, given the unique genetic code of their mutation, he wouldn’t be able to copy their mutation despite being able to look like a greener version of them.
- unable to change or return to a form if the space he’s in is too small and has no wiggle room (i.e. if he’s under a bridge or rocks, he’ll be unable to shift to a bigger form as he doesn’t have the strength).
- the bigger the form, the more exhausting it is to keep up with it, meaning sooner or later he’d have to shift back.
- does shift sporadically in his sleep, the worst kind of roommate.
- tries not to shift into animals he doesn’t understand (aliens, mostly) as he doesn’t know what they can or cannot do.
- though with improved healing, it mostly applies to flesh wounds and some gunshots (as long as it doesn’t damage oranges) he’s unable to grow back limbs at an instant, that is more of a one to two week process.
- shifting individual parts of his body into that of another animal’s requires slightly more finesse and so far he is only able to shift wings, gills, and one gorilla arm.
ORIGINS
insecure. finicky. reckless. hojun has prior suffered from self image issues. cast away at birth from a disgusted mother, his original “green” form has frightened a many humans (and mutants) that stumbled upon him in the dark of the streets. reports of his deformity caught the attention of a local mutant orphanage, who then brought him in. and like opening pandora’s box, they’ve realized that his mutation leads to more than just green skin the moment he shifts into a grizzly bear mid-sleep.  within the orphanage is where hojun really thrives, where his personality shines. sweet and playful, surrounded by girls. he is a bit sensitive now, after growing up around it, and is the slightest bit clingy when it comes to older male figures — severely suffering from daddy issues. when he attends the academy, it is full of uncertainty. but now in his third year, the place is like a second home. and although he isn’t too sure if he’s up to being a “hero” and making the sacrifice. at least—here, he’ll be able to learn more about the limits of his mutation.

GENESIS IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› YOO DAESOL › 23 YEARS OLD › CATOPTROMANCY › 7 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
Catoptromancy, the ability to travel through different dimensions with several small mirrors.
STRENGTHS
+ he has the ability to harm/kill people through his own, personal mirror
+ he can locate people and buildings via mirrors
+ if he wants to, other people/magical creatures can travel with him, into another dimension or into the academy
WEAKNESSES
- if the mirror he has traveled through is destroyed, he is not able to travel back.
- every mirror is guarded by a few demons/tasks he has to defeat/solve before he is able to enter it
- he’s defenseless without a mirror
- he often hears voices when he looks into unknown mirrors because there are creatures trying to pull him into their dimension
- while traveling through different dimensions, he may unintentionally take evil creatures with him
- It is very power consuming if he does not know the mirror yet
ORIGINS
the first time Daesol ever discovered his abilities was when he was five. He found himself in the middle of a sacrifice after accidentally falling into the mirror that stood in his grandparents bedroom, which was an unprotected one, obviously, and he could barely escape death himself.
His first reaction was to crawl back, which actually saved his life, since he traveled back immediately. Ever since that very moment he started to avoid every single mirror in his life, until the day he turned 16. They day his father passed away. He was so mad about the sudden death, that he locked himself in the attic, not wanting to see neither his friends nor family members.
And in that exact attic he was never allowed to enter, he found the one and only mirror of his father. His wish to escape the human world for a moment grew inside off him, and after seeing what the mirror was capable of, he entered him without a second of doubt.
The other side of the mirror was a girl’s bathroom, which is why the first thing he heard was a high-pitched scream of a small girl. He found himself on the floor of the Avengers Academy in Seoul, 237 kilometers away from his own hometown, Daegu. And his wish to return to his home was blown away after discovering where he had landed.
His first years in the academy started rough. He got bullied often and after some time he just sealed himself off, becoming an outsider who knew everything about the other students, but also someone the other students didn’t know anything about.
So everyone started to think the tall student was a lordly know-it-all and a pretty dumb student, but they aren’t right. Daesol’s a bit biased by himself and thinks of himself as one of the smartest students.

BLACKOUT IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› OLIVIA MILLER › 24 YEARS OLD › SENSORY MANIPULATION › NEW TO THE ACADEMY
POWER
sensory manipulation. olivia can amplify someone’s senses or completely nullify them.
STRENGTHS
she can manipulate all five senses
can make someone deaf or unable to taste.
can amplify someone’s senses so that they feel the direction of wind on their skin
she can take all five away at once
WEAKNESSES
it can be permanent.
if olivia isn’t careful, she can make the damage on someone permanent, rendering them blind or deaf, or forcing them to feel touch so strongly that it’s excruciating.
she can use these powers on herself.
during a mission many years ago, she turned her hearing up and was unable to return it back to normal. she now has extremely sensitive ears and has taken to wearing specialized hearing aids.
the farther a person is from her, the longer it takes her to manipulate them.
ORIGINS
it’s nearly impossible to find a spot on earth that the stars are visible from but here, tucked away from the real world, they still shine. olivia tugs out her hearing aids and listens to the sounds of nature; wind rustling leaves, bugs crawling on the ground. in the distance, a branch snaps off a tree and plummets to the ground.
when she was a kid, her mother pointed out all the stars they could see from their chicago tenement and named them for her. the light pollution was so bad that they mostly picked out airplanes and satellites but it didn’t matter.
just like it doesn’t matter that the memory is fake. it still feels the same.
her real mother worked a lot, she thinks, and had light brown hair. it was long, she thinks, and tugs at the thread in her brain despite the warning creak she gets in response.
it smells like ginger, nutmeg, red paprika spilled across the counter, fingers kneading dough, fingers massaging her scalp, plaiting long brown hair, hair she got from her mother, no, like this sweetheart, otherwise it’ll fall out. long fingers, blunt nails, mama always said mom has the prettiest hands. what did mama look like? prettiest lady in the city. lavender, yellow backsplash, the bathroom tiles warm with condensed steam, seunghee’s first haircut.
her name was seunghee, once.
it feels wrong to say it. maybe she was seunghee. maybe the kitchen did have yellow subway tiles. maybe her mother’s baked cookies. what does it matter? they’re still dead and olivia feels as connected to them as she does to the twinkling night.
she could howl at the moon. she could scream at the sun. all the stars in the sky couldn’t save her family.
she loses time like this, for a while, but it’s surpassed pain that she can connect to herself and passed into something else her body’s been trained to ignore. it’s just noise, now, rattling around the natural disaster that calls itself her brain, begging to be acknowledged.
yea, buddy, she thinks, join the club.

YANWANG IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› CHEN KAN › 23 YEARS OLD › DEATH TOUCH › 13 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
death touch allows kan to induce death either immediately or after a set period of time to anyone he comes in contact with. this may be a causeless death or a death by disease, or can be a death after certain requirements have been met.
STRENGTHS
* death field: he can create a radius or field of sorts that causes death to any living being within it * death condition: something like a promise of death, the person only dies after whatever conditions have been set are met
WEAKNESSES
* the easiest way for him to kill is by physical touch, killing without touching the subject is possible but is limited to a radius of 15 feet around him in the death field * when killing by touch, his ability requires intent otherwise simple touches do not affect whoever he comes into contact with * any ability that negates powers or death is unaffected by his * if he creates a death condition, the requirements must be met. if they are not, he cannot override it and cause instant death to someone he has already induced with a death condition (however, they can still die from accidents, old age, etc. as long as it’s not caused by him) * every time he creates a death field, it is every exhausting and he has a lag/recovery time depending on how large the field was and how long he had to maintain it
ORIGINS
his earliest memory in his life is holding xia’s hand in his, following their parents to the temple where everyone in their neighbourhood goes to pray. he remembers the sweet, wafting smell of incense that stuck to their clothes and the constant chanting murmurs of devout believers. he’s not sure why this is the earliest memory of his life, offering joss sticks and making sure to behave so that his parents don’t ‘lose face’, but he remembers the temple being the center of his life. perhaps he remembers because that is where it all started.
kan remembers growing weaker and weaker, as he watches their parents and all of the religious leaders fawning over xia. he remembers thinking to himself that he’s so proud of his younger brother for helping their parents, for helping their community, blessed with the ability to heal the sick. he remembers wishing he could help xia too, by his side, but everything about him is just the stench of illness and death. he remembers the elders in the temple reaching out to him and grasping his hands, begging him to let them leave.
he never grants their wishes.
when they realise why he’s so sick, he remembers the look in his parents’ eyes. it’s fear and disgust and disappointment, it’s a lump stuck down his throat and wishing he could help people like xia instead. they take him away to where it’ll be safe for everybody else, from him, but he’s scared, he’s barely even ten. he wishes he could be with xia, holding his hand again, but he isn’t and he can’t and it drains the life out of him. he doesn’t remember his time in the darkness, just endlessly alone, and then he’s with xia again and they’re in seoul, not jilin.
he breathes in the fresh air, holds tight onto xia’s hand and forgets. he forgets his parents, forgets the temple, and forgets china. he is better off this way, just with his anchor, his other half, and the other side to his coin. he is better forgetting.

RUBY IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› KANG AHRI › 22 YEARS OLD › CURSE INDUCEMENT › 1 YEAR IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
Curse inducement / The ability to place curses on objects, people or places. The  curses can only be negative, and have a range of small to massive effects.
STRENGTHS
1. Distance is not an obstacle; her power can reach anyone and anything anywhere in the world. // 2. Her curses can vary from small annoyances to extreme results. It’s as easy for her to make someone have stereotypical bad luck as it is to curse them with death. Since her ability doesn’t use her own energy, getting exhausted because of it isn’t a problem she encounters. // 3. She can hex an unlimited number of targets at the same time.
WEAKNESSES
1. For every object, place or human she curses, its name gets carved on the inside of her skin– literally under her skin. While she got used to the sting, it makes her extremely vulnerable to any kind of physical contact because of how thin and fragile her skin has gotten. // 2. Unlike most mutants, Ahri needs to keep on using her ability. If she stops for more than a few days, the curses that she placed will start getting back at her. This is the reason why, even if she’s able to torture and kill people at will, she would much rather not risk it. // 3. She needs specially made candles to induce her cursing. She makes her own mixing wax & drops of her blood. It’s one candle per curse and thus also needs a lighter on her at all times if she wants to be able to use her ability. // 4. although she can place an unlimited number of curses at a time, she can’t do so on different target categories; meaning she can’t curse a person and an object at the same time, only several people OR several objects at once. // 5. the further away her target is, the weaker the curse will be. // 6. Ahri needs a visual of her target to be able to curse it. a photo, video, or actually looking at her target are the only things that will work.
ORIGINS
Ahri was born into a loving family of…scam artists. it was a dog-eat-dog world and they weren’t about to let themselves go down the social ladder. She’s quickly started participating in the family business as soon as she could talk, or at least as soon as her parents discovered her abilities. She’s always hated using her power as a child; all the stomachaches, bad grades and cavities she’s cursed onto other people came back to bite her ass, so much that it took her years to fully understand how to by-pass that effect. Her parents were fortune-tellers. Her mother would be the one in full psychic attire, and her father would act out as the ‘extremely satisfied’ customer, raking in an endless amount of new clients. And although they were scammers- faking abilities to earn money- they’d use Ahri and her curses for a semblance of fortune-telling. Very quickly, Ahri was engrossed in the whole acting scheme with her parents. She’s created a convincing persona that she’s kept using even in her later years. So much that she doesn’t know what her true self is anymore. The reason she’s joined the academy was because she’s looking for one and only thing– fame. Ahri has seen the popularity of superheroes rise, whilst the number of people trusting her parents dwindle down. Being a psychic was so last year, she’s turning into a hero now.

KIN IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› CHOI EUNAH › 23 YEARS OLD › KINETIC ENERGY MANIPULATION › 3 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
eunah has the power of kinetic energy manipulation. she is able to create, shape, and manipulate kinetic energy. kinetic energy is the energy an object has because of its motion.
STRENGTHS
eunah has the ability to augment, decrease, and otherwise manipulate the kinetic energy of any object. this means that not only can she strengthen her attacks, making even the lightest touch massively destructive, she is also able to negate an opposing force, taking away the strength behind another’s physical attack and adding it to her own.
eunah can also transfer any object’s kinetic energy onto another, giving her the ability to turn even the smallest pebble into a ranged concussive attack.
eunah is also able to redirect kinetic energy, specifically, away from her own body, and send it back to its origin or another source entirely, such as her own body. this makes physical attacks against her almost useless.
WEAKNESSES
eunah’s body is only able to store a certain amount of kinetic energy, just enough to make concussive blast with a radius of about fifteen feet.
if she stores more kinetic energy than what her body can handle, her body begins to harm itself, inflicting its energy onto her bones and muscles.
though she is able to add more force to her movements, if she overexerts herself, she may cause bodily injury, not unlike those sustained by professional athletes.
though she is able to transfer kinetic energy to other objects, essentially turning them into weapons, she is not immune to the power of the kinetic energy behind them, thus, if she is not careful, she could harm herself if she’s not careful.
contact must be made in order for her to redirect the kinetic energy of a physical attack, making timing absolutely paramount to the success of this ability. if she is not ready to redirect an attack, she will still suffer the attack.
using her power is incredibly taxing on her, and thus, she is only able to use it for hours at a time. at the moment, she is able to steadily use it for two hours, though if she uses stronger attacks, she would wear out faster.
ORIGINS
her parents knew she had a strong mind since birth, learning to walk and talk at an earlier age than most others around her age, able to solve complex mathematical equations before she even reaches middle school. she graduates high school at the top of her class, with a bright future ahead of her. but that’s when everything changes. it turns out their daughter isn’t only gifted in academics. her powers manifest in the middle of a physics lecture, an irony she would have never predicted. a pencil snaps as soon as she picks it up, a handshake results in a blast that sends her professor and several of her fellow students flying. she can only mutter hushed apologies as she runs off, afraid of herself, afraid of what’s happening. but like any scholar, she turns to the scientific method, testing her powers, trying to figure out the hows and whys, and it’s while she’s doing her background experiments that her parents are approached by recruits from the avengers academy. she’s apprehensive at first, but two words are all that are needed to be said in order to change her mind: stark internship. she accepts without a second thought. it’s been three years since she’d been recruited, three years of intense training, as well as helping out at the stark tower, trying to help find a way that she can infuse her powers and weaponry into one, using the two parts of her that make a whole, and she’s never felt more alive in her entire life. this is where she belongs.

WEBSLINGER IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› ADAM DABIRI › 17 YEARS OLD › SPIDER PHYSIOLOGY › 1 YEAR IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
spider physiology, where the user mimics the abilities of everyone’s favorite eight-legged creepy crawler. traits of adam’s mutation are unique to those of the crab spider, characterized by the advantage of camouflage.
STRENGTHS
adam can shoot silk from his fingers, stick and climb up along walls and ceilings, tune into his spidey sense that warns him of danger with a tingling sensation felt through his fingers, camouflage his entire body and clothes to his surroundings so he’s practically “invisible,” and has enhanced strength and agility.
WEAKNESSES
adam cannot construct entire webs or other complex structures with his silk and is limited to “ropes” for swingin’ around, shoot projections that are longer than 100 feet in length, stick to ceilings and walls for more than 45 minutes, sense pending danger and is limited to only the immediate kind, remain camouflaged for more than 45 minutes, keep his spidey sense active under high levels of stress (with the ability in general making him prone to headaches and dizziness because of heightened sensitivity to his surroundings), conjure up multiple limbs or eyes, nor cause temporary paralysis through venom-coated contact similar to that of a crab spider’s venomous bite (this ability is currently locked).
ORIGINS
alright, let’s do this one last time. my name is adam h. “hanbyul” dabiri. i was thirteen when i was not bitten by a radioactive spider, but out of nowhere started superglueing to walls, shooting sticky string from my fingertips, sprouted to a whopping height of 6′1, and for the last four years, i’ve been the one and only webslinger.
(“what about spider-man?” that’s copyrighted, carol. “but you can’t even make webs—” yeah, well we’ll get to that—)
crazy? my dad thought so, too. my mom though? not surprised in the least. when you’re an instructor at the very first avengers academy, nothing should be shocking to you, what with the kind of students that tumble in through their doors. all mutants. all wanting to be heroes.
like me.
and unlike peter parker in all of his different forms and faces, i didn’t have to keep it a secret. but i didn’t really have a chance to run around new york city to save the day, either. before i knew it, i was bidding adieu with a two finger salute to my normal people school to the not-so-normal school where mom was on their staff roster. and i do well. i do great. i saved a cat from a tree, get an avenger name that won’t get me sued by spider-man (even though i can’t technically sling webs, but it’s the thought that counts), and i discovered a newfound talent for skateboarding on vertical flat surfaces. but after a good year and a half, mom had other plans. something along the lines of “reconnecting with my roots.”
mind you, the last time i’d thought about korea was for a geography test. so when the flyer for AA’s student exchange program to ankae was tacked on the bulletin, she’d gotten me to sign up. my app got approved, and a couple months later, i was landing down at incheon international.
first impressions? this is nothing like the bronx. luckily, i know the language well enough. and i hope i can keep doing well. doing great.
in the case that somehow this all fails spectacularly?
well, i’ve got halmae on speed dial for some very good reasons.

STRENGTHS
pocket dimension creation
fantasy travelling
subjective reality
door projection
room shifting
WEAKNESSES
pocket dimension creation
her own personal world is up to the size of an entire floor of a large apartment building = the largest size of a dimension that she can create.
while she is able to stay within her pocket dimension an infinite amount of time ; one visitor can only stay up to 12 hours, which is her limited capacity. as the time reaches near its limit, the pocket dimension will begin to deteriorate, leaving herself and her single guest at last location where she was present in the real world.
fantasy travelling
she is only able to transport/travel between the boundaries of fantasy and reality within realms she has a special connection with, such as a realm that exists in her memories.
as well as, if the destination is within her line of sight, such as a painting she sees and stands before or a book that is sitting in front of her.
subjective reality
although she is able to turn her own dreams and imagination into reality, she is often the only one who is able to see her own creations.
however, she is limited to one person at a time to allow them to see her creations within their field of vision.
door projecting
she may have to attempt multiple times to reach to the desired destination, if she doesn’t have a clear image of the setting.
if there is no entrance or exit, she is unable to use this ability.
room shifting
she can only shift rooms she has created or was present in.
whenever this ability is activated, no other person is able to access unless permission granted.
ORIGINS
born under a lit full moon with star-studded skies that poured heavy rain on a cloudless night, she was star-adored and blessed with the special sight that wanders an infinite imagination. skeletal flowers bloomed, then faded once soaked in rain and bathed in moonlight. however, once the 100 millionth star falls, her reality becomes distorted and so befalls a tragedy.
& so, the cycle of life begins ; raised within a mafia family, whom were infamous for their questionable experiments. as they’ve done so to their own children, undergoing various training regiments, presumably honing their mutant powers to the excess of their extent, while taking heavy and challenging missions that gave both extreme physical abilities and mental prowess. as time went on, an act of rebellious nature resulted to solitary confinement. she was confined to a children’s play room that had no windows.
in fact, checkmate. everything had played according to plan. to think, a single door, was their achilles’s heel. her escape plan was long term and a success. her road to freedom was confirmed once she set foot onto the avenger’s academy. a stranded child at the age of 16 enrolled into the safe haven of her dreams. throughout her years spent at the academy, which was like a second home to her, as well as a chance to be reborn as a better version of herself, ryu eunyeong only looked forward to the infinite possibilities this life has yet to throw at her.

PYRE IS OFFICIALLY READY TO JOIN THE ACADEMY!
› KANG JINHYUK › 20 YEARS OLD › PYROKINESIS › 5 YEARS IN THE ACADEMY
POWER
pyrokinesis, otherwise known as fire manipulation, is the ability to create, shape, and manipulate fire. whether it be pulling it out of thin air, using from a source that’s already there and bending it to his will, shooting streams of it from the body, or creating more flame from a minuscule amount.
STRENGTHS — the user can create, shape, and manipulate fire at will. — the user can create flames that can vary in color, thus varying in heat. — the user can engulf the entire body in flames. — the user can fluctuate the temperatures +/- 35 degrees in their general vicinity.
WEAKNESSES — user’s emotions can deeply affect the color and heat of the flame, anger and upset can trigger blue flame which burns the hottest, also is the most uncontrollable and volatile. — red to yellow flame doesn’t inflict any harm to the user’s body, but when blue flame is used, it physically harms and burns the body. — contact with excessive amounts of water can hinder the user’s ability to produce flames until moisture is completely dried/evaporated off the body. — while user can engulf the entire body in flames at a singular time, it depletes energy and weakens them faster than having a single limb or two limbs in flame. — a lack of oxygen to the body can snuff out the user’s flames, thus meaning that they can’t travel into space and gets weaker the farther into the atmosphere they travel. — there’s a limit in which a stream of the user’s fire can travel when shot out. — overuse and misuse of the power can weaken the user’s body and mind, needing a brief period to rest and recuperate. — user can fluctuate temperatures, but is sensitive to colder temperatures and gets more uncontrollable traveling past freezing point.
ORIGINS
trigger warning for suicide, death, torture, and child abuse.
kang jinhyuk. a name most have heard and a name that plenty of people tend to fear. when looking at the boy, he was electrifying, the stark blue color of his hair highlighting the sharp features of his face. a boy who could engulf himself in flames and burn through everything that walked into his path. he’s fury and anger and rage trapped inside the body of a boy who’s words are blunt and emotionless, ones that cut deep because he feels like it. most people tend to not look any father than the surface and if they did, anyone could tell the poor boy had been through hell and back in the short twenty years he’d been alive. could see the pain and heartache hidden behind long eyelashes, swimming in pools of deep brown.          born to a military man and a mutant mother, things were slightly doomed from the start. his mother was a sweet woman, kind and loving, wanting to nurture and raise her child to love who they were and learn to hone their ability without learning to rely on it too heavily. his father wasn’t horrible, at least not at the beginning. he was strict and kept jinhyuk in line, kept his powers in line and was more for not using them altogether, wanting his son to live a normal life even if mutants were normal in that day and age. jinhyuk has never thought his father was a cruel person, he was sure that deep down, past the nailed in military training he cared more. yet, jinhyuk would learn after his brother born, that that wasn’t the case.          at the age of eight, jinhyuk’s mother had given birth to a little mutant baby boy, but because of complications of his ability, his mother passed away during childbirth and had taken any shred of humanity his father had with her. from that point on, he did little to raise his children, it was up to jinhyuk to raise his brother while also juggling his own struggles. it was difficult obviously, his father not only began hating their mutant abilities, he also just began hating them. taking out his anger and hurt and upset on them, mainly on his little brother as he’d gotten older. it was his little brother’s fault that his wife was dead, if they had never had kids in the first place like he wanted she wouldn’t be gone. heated words and red hot anger mixed with alcohol, all jinhyuk had known from that age onwards was abuse.          the only thing that mattered in his life was his little brother and he did everything possible to keep him safe. he took the brunt of the abuse and torture. it was like none other, his father being the military man he was, knew how to hurt someone. at first, jinhyuk cried, begged, did everything he could to stop his father, but all it did was get worse. so, as he grew into his early teens, he stopped resisting, he took it and began closing himself off, tried to steel his own emotions because when his emotions flared, especially at that young age, his powers flared which only angered his father more. however, as much as jinhyuk took and did to help his brother, that never stopped his father from getting to him. you see, his brother had a gift that was unlike any other. death touch, whatever he touched died or began to wither away. so after years of abuse, both verbal and physical, his brother had brought his own touch to himself and ended his own life.          it was then, after his powers had been relatively dormant for years, unleashed. anger and hurt and guilt and sadness all built up into one after the loss of his brother, blue flame erupting from his limbs and incinerating the house he stood in, taking his father’s life while not meaning to. from the ashes, with burns across his torso and arms, jinhyuk fled. his life living on the streets hardened his soul, the loss of the one person he loved more than anything, how his father had broken him down forced him to bury any semblance of his old self. he wouldn’t be weak again.  come a year later at the age of fifteen, jinhyuk was invited to the academy. great potential seen with his abilities and what he had to offer. reluctantly, he accepted, not quite open to trusting people, but also not wanting to live on the streets any longer.          since being at the academy, he’s learned to hone and control his abilities again, as much as he can for his age at least. his powers were great and really did show potential, but the potential was never quite used for the right reasons as most people would have hoped. he isn’t the kindest soul, what his life has brought him hardened his heart, pushed his feelings down until they couldn’t be seen any longer. he’s cruel and ruthless, yet relaxed and can’t quite give a fuck about most things. he doesn’t really have a reason to live or care anymore, so why do it? it’s what makes him the worst of the worst, what makes him a villain and maybe he likes it that way.
