something about the way book 10 begins with hiccup being the loneliest he’s ever been. an outcast, a hero on a quest, a wanted boy on both sides of the war. with only three dragons as his closest companions. windwalker, wodensfang and toothless as sole witnesses to his growing up for an entire year - how evident that all three of them tried their absolute hardest to protect and take care of hiccup given the dire circumstances of being on the run.

and something about the way it ends with hiccup's own little ensemble of a group, dubbed as 'the ten companions of the dragonmark' - consisting of his most loved humans and dragons who would now undoubtedly follow him anywhere. finally having the chance to laugh freely and exchange stories and to breathe a little easier, even if just for a moment. and even if worry and guilt seem to weigh heavy on him, the wodensfang is there to remind him of his youth, to 'leave these worries to us old creatures' and that hiccup is no longer alone.

I started httyd book 10 on the December 1st and finished on the 4th! (Info for me)

Spoilers below!

What A ROLLERCOASTER

Poor Hiccup spent one year running away and hiding 😭 a whole year is so much

Eggingarde was so heartbreaking! I'm glad that she ended up safe, at least one thing went well 🫠

Hiccup's parents not recognizing him was so sad, I almost cried when stoick said that he was angry at hiccup, but immediately after that he said that he was proud to be his father and there I was almost crying again, my heart was like 📉📈📉📈📉📈

Thankfully Camicazi appeared to help Hiccup and even recognized him AAA YIPPEE

Toothless and Wodensfang are so funny together

For a second I thought she was on Alvin's side (because recently I found out that in httyd 2 movie Valka was going to be the villain and then they changed it) but no! She was so amazing while bringing people to Hiccup's side, even though I was getting mad too before that DJAKFNKSD

All was getting a little better but then the Jewel was of course stolen and anxiety is BACK

The ten companions was very cute but I can't stop thinking about where Horrowcow is

It was something else entirely. There was an axe struck by lightning. 11/10

Book 3: How To Speak Dragonese: The “Action Movie”

This one was so random but sooo entertaining!!! Romans, nano-dragons, Camicazi???? I’m here for it! 8/10

Book 8: How To Break A Dragon’s Heart: The “Horror Movie”

It was also something else, but in an entirely different way. It was funny, it was weird, it was hilarious, it was gruesome. Would not read again but 9/10.

Book 9: How To Steal A Dragon’s Sword: The “DnD Hero’s Quest”

what even in the. that was a very good book and crucial to the series. The cave below the well reminded me a lot of the ice cave in RttE where Hiccup finds the Bewilderbeast’s egg. I disliked the castle though. 8/10.

Book 2: How To Be A Pirate: The “Treasure Hunt”

Nice! Introduction to Alvin and Grimbeard, a treasure hunt, an octopus. 7/10.

Book 10: How To Seize A Dragon’s Jewel: The “Young Adult Revolution”

I can’t remember most of the book except Eggingarde and the Slavemark revolt. That was some good stuff. Oh wait, and the crystal cave in the red sands??? Waaaiiiiiiiiit........ no that was actually GOOD STUFF!! 6/10

Book 6: A Hero’s Guide To Deadly Dragons: The “Library Themed Book Because Every Passionate Author Has One”

because it was fun and harmless :)))) 6/10.

Book 11: How To Betray A Dragon’s Hero: The “Big Drama I”

meh....it’s the lead-up to the epic conclusion, I guess...? 5/10.

Book 12: How To Fight A Dragon’s Fury: The “Final Drama II”

mehh.....wasn’t worth it. Look, for 12 books and such a complex, hopeless situation, I expected more from the finale. I believe humans and animals are better than this in real life. 4/10.

Book 1: How To Train Your Dragon: The “Novel”

It sure was a novel, huh. 3 points for the dragon-selecting scene, for Hiccup talking to the Green Death, and for inspiring the movies. 3/10

Book 5: How To Twist A Dragon’s Tale: The “Musical Episode”

Yeah no. I didn’t like that one. It seemed pointless. Too much singing, and Humongously Hotshot the Hero was veeery annoying. Also everything about Alvin and the Exterminator Dragons was just disgusting. 1/10

It’s interesting how I seemed to like the middle books better than the start and end!!! O_O I guess I’m more into adventure than into angst. :)

A/N: I know SuperQuest is in the BTTS season, but I couldn’t help myself.

You and Leo are still frustrated after having been interrupted a few hours earlier. So you decide to use this stake out to your advantage.

The night stretched endlessly over the city, like a dome of inky blackness adorned with the glimmering jewels of stars. The distant hum of traffic and the occasional siren created a white noise that surrounded you, but in the stillness of the night, it was as if time itself held its breath. High above the bustling streets, Leonardo and you crouched silently on a familiar rooftop, your eyes trained on the rhythmic heartbeat of the city below. Or on a certain warehouse to be specific. A warehouse owned by members of the Purple Dragons.

A few hours before you and Leonardo had started your stake out, Donatello had managed to get information that Hun was waiting for a delivery. What delivery he did not know, but Hun had seemed stressed over his messages, leading Donatello to believe it must be important.

But it was what you and Leo were doing before Donnie called out of the leader in blue, that stayed in your mind, taunting you as time went on. Making out on his futon bed with his three fingered hand down your pants. He was just about to reach your core when Donnie started yelling about a delivery to the Purple Dragons.

So there you were several hours later, on a rooftop with your ninja boyfriend, still incredibly turned on from your heated make out session in his bedroom. But your boyfriend didn’t show any signs of frustration. His keen eyes were scanning the street below, analyzing every moment.

As the night deepened, so did the unspoken desires that simmered beneath the surface of your skin. How Leo most likely would have fingered you, while telling you to keep quiet with his family just outside his bedroom, in the big open living area. Leonardo knew that sigh of frustration. And whenever he saw that smile, he usually loved what came along with it. You and your dirty ideas never seized to amaze him. But as much as he wanted to give in, and do whatever you had thought of doing on that roof, he had to stay focused. He was on a stack out, a mission.

But as you crawled towards him, and placed your lips on his with a passionate kiss, Leo’s focus had to fight against the burning desire that had builded in him for several hours. He broke the kiss to look you in the eyes, surprised that he already was out of air.

“You know I want to, (Y/N). I really fucking want to, but I have to keep an eye out. They said Hun would get a delivery tonight”, Leonardo said slightly breathless, nodding towards the warehouse on the other side of the street.

“Who said you had to look away?”, you asked innocently. Leo looked at you in confusion, but as soon as you started to tie your hair back, he caught on. He got comfortable on the roof, making sure he still had a full view of the warehouse, while being covered by the shadows. You got down low, your face mere centimeters from his slightly pulsing cloaca. Leo was biting the inside of his cheek as his gaze flickered between you and the street below.

“Hun can go and fuck the Admin Wizard for all I care”, Leo said, getting himself ready to leave. “Now, get your clothes on so I can take it off of you again when we get home”.

Can we just talk about the parallels between Hiccup and Termagant in book 10. The epilogue where Termagant is described as being separated from Fishlegs by a wall of glass, and she presses her hand against it and wills him to live and breathe again.

How earlier Hiccup had found Fishlegs in a pillar of glass, and they pressed their heads together, before Hiccup broke him out, helping Fishlegs to live and breathe again.
