I don't think I've ever talked about this before, but back in 1989 Ikeno Koi and Hiiragi Aoi (of Whispers of the Heart fame) collaborated on a series of crossover illustrations featuring characters from Tokimeki Tonight and Hoshi no hitomi no silhouette. I adore these, obviously -- they're both amazing shojo artists, and back in 1989 they were the top two artists in Ribon magazine! What a treat. I love all of these, but I particularly love that for some reason, Ikeno and Hiiragi decided that Tokimeki's Sand should hook up with Hoshi no hitomi's Tsukasa, lol. That is the closest to a romantic encounter Sand has ever had in the entirety of Tokimeki's run.

Actually I'm trying to search a scanlation team to make my friends read Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette.. I absolutely don't know why this manga hasn't been translated, it's really an awesome shoujo manga.

I mean, look at these panels without spoiling the manga ??

Honestly Aoi Hiiragi has a neat storyboard technique, she doesn't need to put a lot of words to describe emotions ?? And the charaters are kinda relatable and you want to hug or befriend with them to let them have a nice moment, plus the artstyle fits really well with the artstyle ?? This manga is melancholic without being too dramatic, it still have a potential for an anime or even a translation in other countries than Japan.

And another reason to talk about Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette, it's from the same creator of the original mangas of Whisper of the Heart (Mimi wo sumaseba) and The Cat Returns (Neko no Ongaeshi) !!

Aoi Hiiragi is a really underrated mangaka, her stories make people dream and be empathetic about her characters. The landscapes are nice because it's Japan's countryside and it feels breathtaking to see how she does them.

Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette Manga Gets New Sequel

A sequel to Aoi Hiiragi’s Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette manga has launched on Tokuma Shoten’s Comic Tatan website. Hiiragi is drawing the manga, titled Hoshikuzu Serenade: Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette another story.

Ribon's website is now listing the lineup for 2015′s last issue of Ribon Special which will be released on December 17th. Mayu Sakai’s Kimi to Dake wa Koi ni Ochinai will get the cover.

The biggest news is that there will be two special 60th Anniversary chapters in this issue one for Hime-chan no Ribbon and one for Hoshi no Hitomi no Silhouette. Although was there another HnHnS chapter I missed because how did we go from ENGAGE to ENGAGE 3?!

Ribon questions

Hello ! I'm collecting some answers from the retro / vintage manga community.

I only own 80s to 2000s Ribon magazines and i'd love to share some pics from mangas published in this era from Ribon. But I also own some recent Cookie and Ribon magazines (between 2010 and 2019) and tankoubon/bunko editions.

Which mangas or artists from Ribon do you want to see more on Tumblr ? You may reblog this post to help me having some answers and tell me in my mailbox or in comment so i'll put some color and black and white pics into my posts please ! I do not own retro furoku (except two, one from 1988 and the other one from 2002, i think ?) because i'm less interested by furoku and there's nice blogs that share them ! like @brickme or @hotwaterandmilk for example ! but if you want to send me some i'll accept for sure ^^

I'll probably try to explain how the illustrations are done with my knowledge and references in traditional art supplies and explain the color technique used by each mangaka in some independent posts if you want !!
