Ereloy Week 2024 day 7: Entwine/“You're not going alone!”/Amongst the trees
Spontaneous day 7! I totally blame the Two Minutes discord server and especially @maybirdie for this, who gave me the idea in the first place! ❤️
So, Cam, this Buffloy is dedicated to you! 😁

I have something to say - If you aren’t going to read the whole thing, then skip it. But I really hope you do. My intention is not to cause drama. I just felt this was important to say because I love this community and I want it to be the best it can be.
A few days ago, a very unfortunate thing happened on a certain post about Talanah and Seyka. I called someone out on what was a case of weaponizing a racist incident. Instead of having a meaningful discussion, my comments were deleted and called “inappropriate accusations.”
Long story short - several reblogged and commented on this post about how Talanah was constantly being tagged as Seyka. To be clear, this is not a good thing and I believe every single one of those post to be valid in their frustration. But I have also seen it happen the other way around to my own work (Seyka tagged as Talanah). None of this is okay but while it is exhausting, remember that mistakes do happen.
So I made a comment about my experience and my comment was dismissed because apparently it “hadn’t been seen.” I responded to this with an honest truth of how dismissals of experience affects people like me.
The thing about racism is that it doesn’t happen in a vacuum. You don’t get to pick and choose who it happens to just to fit your narrative. Dismissing it because you didn’t personally see it is harmful, especially to fans from marginalized groups who may not feel comfortable sharing their experiences in the future.
My comment was deleted and later referred to as an “inappropriate accusation” and “harassment.” Was it an accusation? Yes. Was it inappropriate? No. Was it harassment? Absolutely not - I took time to respond so it wouldn’t be seen that way. However, the comments involving Talanah mistags were kept. The comments defending a fictional character. To be clear, I am not saying these comments are not justified. It is incredibly frustrating to work so hard on a piece only for it to be tagged as another character. However, the fact other comments (including my personal experience), that challenged the narrative that these mistaggings were only happening to Talanah, were being deleted is problematic and a form of silencing. Intentional or not - this is a racist microaggression - and yes, I do deal with stuff like this in real life.
It became immediately clear to me that the goal here wasn’t to raise awareness or do anything about the racist misnaming but instead use it to put down a group in this community. And judging a whole group by the actions of a few bad apples is literally where prejudice begins. All of this pettiness stemming from - let’s face it - an unnecessary shipping war in a FICTIONAL STORY. I was incredibly disappointed and saddened because I know we are better than this.
I am not speaking out because I want to cause drama. Undoing systemic racism is something I am deeply passionate about because it affects so many people in my life. If someone calls you out on a problematic take, please take a moment to listen and reflect, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Do not follow the impulse to block or delete. This work is extremely exhausting for everyone, but it is SO important. We all carry prejudices and biases. We are human. But we can also learn because we are all human. I have been called out many times in life by my friends. I have made so many ignorant comments and mistakes. And I will still make them. Hearing I have is not easy at all but it is all part of growing.
Speaking out like this isn’t really my thing but I felt the need to make a comment that can’t be deleted by anyone. I love the Horizon community and I want it to be a safe and inclusive space for everyone no matter where you are from. That is what these games are about. Understanding people from different backgrounds, opinions and traditions in order to work together.
You don’t have to be fans of the same characters. You can love or be disappointed with the canon. You can respectfully give and listen to critiques of these characters. And you can celebrate representation even if it’s not the direction you wanted Horizon to go in.
Whatever these games have given you is yours to keep.
Just don’t be an asshole about it (at least in public, what you do in private is none of anyone’s business so…) -> that goes to all fans in all groups. It is never okay to harass or hurt anyone - and especially over fictional characters.
(Also please respect the devs - we are lucky they are able to pour their hearts into this game for all of us to enjoy and frankly the direction is their creative choice)
This vibrant community is full of so much talent and love for this amazing series. I have made some truly incredible friends, worked on some hilarious and delightful collaborations and have seen wicked talent come together to make something special. Just look on the horizon, and you’ll see a certain 100% fan-made game coming soon, which has a little something for everyone!
Keep creating. Ignore the bad apples. Don’t be an asshole. I’m going back to drawing silly things. - from the hart

Thank you for drawing Bi-loy content, I’ve been a little nervous to post things since Burning Shores release because I’ve seen people being called homophobic on Tw*tter for posting bi Aloy, so yeah, it warms my heart to see (also our colours look so cute on her!) so thank you again and I hope that no hate comes your way (it’s probably more on tw*tter since it’s hell in a site haha)
Thanks for your words, Anon! It's been tough dealing with all the intolerance in the fandom lately, but I believe the best way to fight it is by creating more positive content to overshadow the negative. If I've played a part in that, I'll be really happy.
Luckily, I only received one hater comment about Bi-loy, and yeah, it was on Twitter. But I think we can say that things are calming down now, thanks to the amazing community managers who have been supporting fan arts (like some of my Bi-loy ones for example) and also thanks to cool initiatives like the multiship server and other great projects that are coming. These efforts bring us together in our love for Horizon instead of tearing us apart.
Anyway, your comment touched my soul, thank you for reaching out to me, and sorry for the speech you didn’t ask for ;)
Here is a little Bi-loy just for you

sorry, but you can’t be part of a fandom and put out fanfic and art and other stuff, and not expect to get some feedback and criticism on it. that’s not how a fan community works.
I wasn’t going to answer this because it’s obviously a bad-faith ask. But then I decided to say fuck it, and be a little spicy.
Let’s talk about this.
90% of the criticism I get, I don’t engage with. Most of it is tags on my gifsets, especially of Nil. I get many comments about how he’s “a psychopath” and how “haha I killed him in my game” and other takes that are harmful. Usually I just block that person and move on.
A line is crossed when you come onto my blog, go into my ask, and send something that isn’t “criticism” but outright negativity.
A line is crossed when a person calls gifs “ugly” because they feature a character or ship they don’t like.
A line is crossed when a person calls art or fic “mediocre” or even “bad” just because they disagree with the characters the artist or writer is choosing to feature in it.
That isn’t “feedback.” That isn’t even “criticism.” That’s just vile behaviour.
Fanworks are for fun. I do them because I enjoy them. Do I hope others like what I put out there? Of course. I’m a human being, and I’m sensitive, and I want to be liked. Of course I care. But at the end of the day, I chose to make [thing] because I wanted to see it.
Some people are okay with constructive criticism. And in this group project I’m involved with, I am asking my team for it, because I want to improve and want to be as perfect and professional as possible. As narrative lead, I am also giving constructive feedback. None of it is intended to tear someone down: It’s to add to what is already there. I want my teammates to be proud of what they made and I want to help them make it the best it can be. And I want to be proud of what I make, and want them to help me the same way. The nature of this project demands it, and it’s what we all signed up for knowingly.
And in the fic I’m co-writing, I want feedback from my cocreators. I signed up for that too.
But when I’m sharing a ten-minute doodle, or just throwing a fic into the universe, I don’t want unsolicited concrit. Because 9 times out of 10, it’s never about, “Oh, here’s a trick for if you’re struggling with perspective!” or suggestions on how to improve. 9 times out of 10, it’s “lol mid at best.” How does that help? It doesn’t, and it was never intended to. It was only intended to harm.
When a person creates a fanworks and puts it into the universe, they are sharing a bit of themselves. They are being vulnerable. The least people can do is not be assholes about it.
If you don’t like something, then it wasn’t made for you. Just ignore it and move on, and don’t ruin anyone else’s day in the process. That is how fan community works.

A Special Request
Told by Elisabet Sobeck
Tumblr media
My life is flashing before my eyes, I can’t think straight, my heart is pounding, my body is shaking, I can’t breathe steady as I get off my goodbye to my Zero Dawn allies call. This…this was it….the world was about to end…I…I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Gaia has everything thing ready to repair the biosphere. As I wait in my childhood home I think of everything….my mother, Tilda, Ted, everyone who was on board with project Zero Dawn….and Gaia…probably one of the things I’m most proud of and thankful that she learned to feel.
I sit still thinking about her all while looking at my old family photos of me and my mom on the farm together….suddenly I hear echoes in my mind. “You often tell stories of your mother…but you are childless.” Gaias voice echoed. “I never had time…guess it was.. for the best” I replied. I don’t know what got into me but I started crying, I really wish it didn’t have to come to the apocalypse for me to get upset about never having my own offspring. I found my self repeating what I told Gaia.
“I guess I would’ve wanted…her…to be..curious. And willful…unstoppable even…but with enough compassion to…..heal the world…just a little bit.”
I shed many tears after saying that, thinking of what my little baby girl would’ve been like, what it would’ve been like to hold her…to take care of her…to be there for her when she needed me. I sat in silence for a while, then a thought hit me, I immediately called Gaia and was about to ask her something I never thought I’d ask.
“Greetings Elisabet. Are you all right? Everything is set in place for your plan..” Gaia spoke, I replied that I was fine and I have a massive favor to ask her, this might be a lot to ask but I have a special request.
“Oh! And what might that be?” Gaia hummed gently.
I took a deep breath and spoke.
“I want you…to give birth to my daughter using the Eleuthia 9 cradle that will rebirth the human race….I know it sounds crazy but…I never had time to embrace motherhood as I wanted to years ago…I…I just want to give my daughter whoever she may be in the future a life and a chance… and if she finds this message…I want to tell her: I love you…and I am your mother.”
Gaia gently smiled and agreed, she already had my DNA sampled and she told me that she was already planning and recreating her creator in some way, and I told her that I want her to be her own person not just a complete redo of me…she is her own person and will make her own choices, I know I unfortunately won’t be there to guide you little girl…but Gaia will once you find her, and when you do I hope you find this message as well….
I thanked Gaia and fell asleep…for the last time ever probably…
I love you little girl, and I can’t wait for you to see the world when you are born.
Dr. E. Sobeck’s suit: initiating cryogenic sleep….
