Basketball season is here, and it’s a great time for us, as coaches, to get better. Many of us spend time on the road reading and networking trying to improve. One thing I’ve really tried to put an emphasis on throughout the season is working on the C in S and C. All to often the conditioning work is overlooked by practitioners because, to be honest, it’s just not as fun as lifting heavy stuff, at least to me. On game days, for the past year or so, I’ve tried to have my #GameDayGreenWork as part of my routine, and am inviting all my basketball practitioners to join in and spread the word. Any medium, 30-45 minutes, post it to your story and use the hashtag #GameDayGreenWork and spread the word that we are trying to put the C in S and C and #MakeConditioningGreatAgain. Ready or not the high school season is here...

I love high school basketball. Out of every organized team I've ever been on, my high school team shaped and impacted my life more than any other. The reason I coach and am so heavily involved in basketball is that I want players to experience the same thing I did. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of great programs where people went above and beyond to invest in me, and now its my turn to do the same. While some have been diligently preparing for the season, others have not. They are the ones that are worried about making a team or where they'll be in the rotation.

I always go back to three fundamental beliefs about people who are serious about anything.

1. Do you have your goals written down?

2. Do you have a plan of attack written down?

3. Do you do something everyday that gets you closer to where you want to be?

If you can't answer 'yes' to these questions I don't think you're really serious.

I like to say it's time to "cash the check" If players have been preparing in the off-season it's fun for them to show others how much they've improved.

They are ready!

They are excited!

They are confident!

It's a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Here's what the next couple of weeks will look like for us in the weight room. We're going to try and get two workouts a week up until we start playing games, after that we'll adjust to the beat of the players. I try to keep it really simple. Explode. Push. Pull. Core. We'll get our conditioning in practice, so there is no need for extra unless players are really out of shape. Remember, too much, too fast won't last. Make it your mission to keep players healthy. I read about this hoop in a local magazine and with the cage around it looked really cool. While there been holidays in #nrw the court been crowded. Kids with parents and without were playing here. The other reason is that I’m keeping myself busy w/ many things in life. ATM I’m in a train to cologne for a job.
