Tagged by the wonderful @magdelanian  to post 6 albums recently listened to! 🧡🧡🧡 I love doing these lol. Now... I am a very non committal music listener and stan, so I have tried to have a think:  1) Film soundtrack to ‘Run, Lola, Run’. A fast paced trance soundtrack which makes me feel like a supa hacker. Alas, I am instead a supa slacker. I listened to this a lot when I worked in journalism/comms. But I think part of the appeal was that, like Lola, I feel like my life sometimes moves too fast for me to catch up- and that I need another play through like in a videogame.  2) ‘Hounds of Love’ by Kate Bush. My father once said that Kate Bush was the weirdest artist of his young adult life. So naturally, I had to discover her music. I first heard Kate Bush when I was 14 in the school computer lab and I felt so stirred and affected by her songs (and still am!).  3) ‘Stripped’ by Christina Aguilera. I love pop of the 2000s and was reminded of this album when a guy in the city started playing this album aloud from his boombox.  4) ‘Houses of the Holy’ by Led Zeppelin. My brother loves Led Zeppelin, so this music was familiar, but took on a different meaning, two years ago. I was broke and in a terrible and desperate situation. I took on a housesitting job in a unique bungalow by the beach. I listened to this album on their record player and would spend my evenings at the beach to think about life and cry lol. But because of the music and the sense of adventure it gave me, I had a feeling everything would be ok. This album makes me think of that.  5) Not an album, but Flava FM 😆. A New Zealand radio station which plays 90s and 2000s hiphop and RnB. I grew up in one of my city’s equivalent of the hood haha and this was the music I grew up with. This was my comfort station in our lockdowns and I would listen to Flava on long walks and doing university remotely.  6) ‘From the Screen to the Stereo Part II’ by New Found Glory. 2000s emo rock was a mainstay in my childhood and teens, as with spending all my spare time watching films. This makes me think of those times and more; in my attic room overlooking our street, in the neighbourhood park on Christmas Day, movie marathons at night and rollerblading in the empty cul-de-sac at sunset 🥰😊.  Tagging anyone who wants to! I FOUND A HOUSE

I went to see the rooms being offered by the elder punk and they’re pretty fucking awesome.  She has like no furniture in the living room so I look forward to adding a couch and table to that space.  I’ll be getting two rooms in the house and we’ll have to share a bathroom, but hey pal that’s livin’ with roommates!  The two rooms are super awesome because I’ll be downsizing big time for this move and I’m glad I won’t have to live out of just one room.  I’ll turn the smaller room into my media/TV room which will allow me to keep up my sleep hygiene practices.  The front and back yard are both permaculture gardens so YAY no mowing.  She leaves the house on most weekends to go backpacking in the nearby mountains, so it won’t be one of those situations where the roommate is always there.  The house is near lots of local trails so I’ll have plenty of occasion to leave the house as well.  Plus it’s just...near things, unlike my current place.  I can walk to places!

It’s a privately owned free-standing home (not a duplex) with no deposit, both of which are a goddamned godsend.  She also smokes and likes the smell of cannabis, though she doesn’t imbibe regularly.  I can start moving things over as soon as I need, and I’ll probably start this weekend.  Y’all, I do not have words for how exciting this is.  I’m not having any “buyer’s remorse” and wondering if I made the right decision, I’m just interested to see if the walk to downtown will be too hard on me because it’s all uphill from the house.  I’m just glad to have all of this behind me.  Now I have to start giving shit away and finding somewhere to store my washer and dryer since the house already has one.

I also have to deal with my other friend, who completely overreacted to my concerns about her boyfriend moving in with us. It’s a whole thing that requires it’s own post and I’m not looking forward to the conversation we need to have.

👑 Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear forgot this band existed until i heard ‘two weeks’ used in a video and like a sleeper agent it awoke something in me and i then proceeded to listen to it on repeat until i couldnt bear it any longer. back when i was in uni, i used to play this all the time in the clothes shop i worked in. my manager called it depressing lmao but actually i think it is the perfect soundtrack for when you wish to jump around a lot and also grin

🍰 The Birthing Pyre by The Jane Austen Argument this is only here for the song ‘bad wine and lemon cake’ because i have had the lyrics i’d like to rent a wife, and rent a husband to keep her alive. the three of us we could be so happy, them with each other and me with company stuck in my head all week. i love it always

🌊 Cold + Liquid by Motte wait omg this one is actually new! the first time i heard motte’s music, she was playing her album strange dreams on the waterfront - and the moment i heard it, it was as if i had been enchanted. i forgot everything else and sat on the ground until the end of her set, utterly captivated. the music in this album is just as dreamy, just as perfect

👒 Greatest Hits by ABBA sometimes you simply need to spend an entire morning gardening to a soundtrack of seventies disco hits. it’s just how it is

It has been a frustrating day. Mostly because of being bombarded with news and rhetoric rationalising and justifying the deaths of thousands of refugees and asylum seekers at sea, in deserts or in ways that bar them from rights of living in safety and dignity.

It's a gruelling reminder of the challenges we as a society face in having to place empathy and human rights back on the agenda. And is also reminding me of how disheartening and isolating a career in human rights is, as more and more, the criticism and backlash becomes relentless.

For some crazy reason my homegrrl's hearing for the TPO has been rescheduled for the end of September from the original date of tomorrow. I'm really bummed about this for her but she has avenues for recourse that she can pursue in the meantime. We work in the same building and they made it keycard access only after he threatened the revenge porn thing. A couple of coworkers are pretty annoyed about having to keep their IDs on them now but fuck that, my girl is worth it and a favorite coworker gave me one of those lanyard thingies so I can wear mine on my neck. I love it, it makes me look more "official" in some way.

Went for my first run on the trails around the corner from my house on Saturday. It's beautiful out there! Fingers crossed for morning runs to become part of my routine again soon.

I was really going through it these past two weeks. I'm starting to feel better. The nightmare was too much and I think I needed to just fall apart for a minute. We're gonna go visit mama this weekend and while I'm absolutely dreading the 8-hour drive, I also cannot wait to see her and chill out in her lovely home. I'm also gonna bring my hiking stuff and just go by myself to visit our local trails. My sister sleeps way later than me and I'm not trying to hike in the heat at noon. Sick of them always being like "don't go without me uwu" but staying in fucking bed all morning. Ya snooze ya lose!

Also - and I can't believe I'm about to write this - I'm getting my deposit refunded by my old landlords! They deducted a $140 cleaning free from the $650 I paid, and I get $510 of that back! I'm fucking SHOCKED to be perfectly honest. That never happens in this shitty ass college town! Not to mention that I smoked that place the fuck out and was genuinely worried about the smoke damage. There was a little (mostly you could just see where I'd hung up pictures) but I wiped the place down with Zep and it was fine.

A coworker left a fresh, ripe tomato from their garden on my desk. I'm gonna cube it and eat with fresh cucumber slices, Maldon salt, fresh cracked pepper, and a few splashes of white wine vinegar. Heaven.

Y'all! Ya better talk me out of whooping a grown man's ass because it looks like my homegrrl's ex will be getting his shit pulled back the next time I see him.

Yeah, the one she wanted me to live with and who immediately triggered a red flag reaction from me. She dumped him because he turned out to be as toxic as I suspected - unethical nonmonogamy, yelling at her, violation of boundaries, filming her without her consent, you name it. She had to force him out of her house last night (the house I would have been in if I hadn't found another option) and is seeking out a temporary protective order today. She's literally on her way to court right now. He's threatening to send private videos of her to our workplace, and revenge porn is actually a felony in our state so let him fucken try it. I will sit on his chest and beat his motherfucking face into mincemeat. Apparently he also posted some videos of her to fb live but I'm not "friends" with him on there so I haven't seen them, but of course I believe what she says. Of course I feel guilty now for having contemplated scaling back my friendship with this excellent, smart, clever woman because of the drama he created between us, but I'll never do that again. I get easily overwhelmed and I just shut down sometimes, and that's what I was doing with her. Not happening again.

We're meeting downtown after work to drink and fellowship with one another. At my old haunt where I did all them drugs and regularly got ripshit drunk. I'm a hilarious lightweight these days and can only handle a single beer every couple of hours (they have lots of nonalcoholic options there now including a n/a IPA that's really tasty), but I can feel the spirit of the old Scumbag Me behind my eyes somewhere. She's aching to come out and burn this fucker with her cigarette.

So, I got to watch true love blossom right in front of mine eyes today. My daughter [Kayasoleil Rosette/15] has unique needs and a particular reservation with contact. Laila [St. Bernand/3 or 4] is my little brother's dog whom I visit when he is away. Laila and Kaya had met but only briefly a few times. Today, we visited Laila and it was love at first sight.. Kaya was skeptical but Laila was patient and persitant: she was making a lifelong friend before the day was done. Kaya relented and let the love in/out. I melted. In this photo Kaya was rubbing her scruff sideways [which isnt comfortable] and gripping her roughly but as you can see, Laila just played her position and loved every second. At one point, they were both shaking from the aggressive/excited tailwag and Kaya was laughing so hard she snorted. Laila would make an amazing service dog but has no idea because she is just showing love to her homegrrl.
