Part 3 of Quirrel Locations
Tumblr media
Queen's Station, once bustling with life, bugs going about their day to day lives, now just mere echoes of their existance can be heard.
"Can you imagine this place in its time? Hordes of bugs travelling about the Kingdom; stag bells ringing; the station bustling with activity and life."
Quirrel is found resting at this massive station when one enters for the first time, after one's descent down fog canyon. A safe area after avoiding the inconveniently placed Uoma, and the Ooma who home in like a missile upon attack.
"Seems the dangerous creatures about haven't yet made their way in here. It's the perfect place for a quick rest."
He makes note of the eternal ringing of the bells, long after usage. The sound ingrained in the confines of Queen's Station forever.
"Is it that, just faintly, you can still hear the echo of the bells?"
His rest at this station is only brief, not to be seen upon exit and return into the room he was in.

hollow knight / 1k / gen
--
i felt like playing in the hk space and wanted to try and write something without dialogue (didn't quite manage it) so here's this.
--
Hallownest had only been a matter of time.
The thought had occurred to Grimm the moment they had been summoned here, to the tiny, empty, town above the old kingdom. Only a matter of time. Since this had all begun he had known he would harvest these flames eventually.
No cost too great.
Well. It was not his place to judge.
He wandered the tents, dancing idly as he went, practicing motions. He could hear Brumm practicing as well, somewhere else in their camp. They would put on a show tonight. It wasn't quite time for the ritual, the little vessel had yet to gather enough flame for that. It would be soon. He could feel the fatigue of ages dragging at him, feel the heat boiling in his veins as this body longed to burn itself out to feed the next. Soon. Not yet. But he would dance all the same.
Grimm caught sight of one of the bugs that lived in Dirtmouth watching him. They looked away when they caught his eye, shuffling quickly back to their home, and he smiled. He wondered if any of the residents would come to watch the show. It wasn't unusual for bugs to be frightened of him and the Troupe.
Though their fears were misplaced, he could hardly blame them, and he didn't let it bother him.
Different movement caught his eye as a small figure clambered out of the well. The vessel wandered to a wrought-iron bench nearby the Stag Station and climbed up. They sat down and pulled out their map. Grimmchild followed them dutifully, starting to settle down on the bench next to them before it spotted Grimm.
It let out an excited mewl and flew toward him, not quite making it before it teleported back to the vessel's side. They looked up at the loud, frustrated cry, first looking at Grimmchild and then following its gaze to Grimm.
He walked over, leaving the bounds of the Troupe's tents, catching his child as it barrelled happily into him. He nuzzled it and let it wind around his neck and settle on his shoulders. He sat on the bench next to the vessel, saying nothing, but narrowing his eyes slightly in a friendly squint when they looked up at him.
The vessel, predictably, also said nothing, and went back to amending their map.
Curiously, Grimm looked at their work. The map was pieced together from several. Parts seemed to have been charted by a professional and the rest was filled in by the scrawling amateur hand of the vessel themself. Colorful pins of polished chitin marked locations of interest, alongside notes in a messy language of symbols Grimm couldn't read but that was not particularly difficult to decipher. He wondered if it was a language inherent to the void these creatures were born of, or if this vessel had made up their own system of writing for this purpose. There were pictures, as well. Crude drawings of grubs or of certain masks repeated all across the kingdom.
No mind to think.
It was not his place to judge.
Grimmchild slid off his shoulders, mewling as it curled up against the vessel's side. They paused in their cartography, a tiny hand of void patting the child's head between its horns. It let out another happy mumble and closed its eyes.
Why were they helping with the ritual?
The vessels were built with a single purpose. Contain the Old Light, hold back the Dream. The present lock was failing, thus were others called to replace them. Perhaps this one would succeed. But why hadn't they yet?
Why did they dally? Why did they draw their map? Why did they mark things to see, things or people to return to, that were not the Dreamers they needed to slay? Why did they gather flame for a child–for a ritual–that would have no effect on their duty?
It was one thing to travel and gather for necessity. Charms to increase their strength, ore to refine their weapon. It was unlikely the Old Light would relinquish her current prison without a fight. It was another to pause with every bug they met, to listen to idle chatter. To make note of places they had seen someone, as if they wanted...
Wanted?
Their hand still rested on Grimmchild's horn.
No will to break.
It was not his place to judge.
They would all be gone soon, resigned to their individual fates, small pieces played in the larger turn of the world. It didn't matter. Grimm rested a hand on Grimmchild's body, feeling the heat pulsing within. Warmer. Brighter.
Grimmchild awoke, blinking dark eyes open. It yawned, baring sharp teeth, and then looked up at the vessel and loudly yowled. Insistent.
They looked at it. The child looked at Grimm and then back at the vessel. It chirped, waving a tendril and slapping at a specific place on the map. The vessel suddenly put the map aside and reached into their cloak, fishing around. Very carefully, they extracted a flower from the folds of fabric and shadow.
They shifted, holding it up toward him with both hands.
Grimm blinked.
"A gift?" he inquired. The vessel nodded. Gently, Grimm plucked the flower from their hands. He held it carefully in his claws, aware of how easily it might immolate in his grasp.
"Thank you," he said.
The vessel nodded again, satisfied, and went back to their map-making. Grimm watched them for a moment. He examined the flower. A fragile, gossamer thing. He wondered where the vessel had gotten it and how they had brought it back here without damaging it. And why.
A gift. For him.
Why?
The vessel scratched at the map with their quill. Grimmchild went back to sleep. And Grimm pondered.
He wondered what the vessel was planning. He had no doubt they were planning something, as they clearly showed more capacity for thought than an empty mind should allow. He had seen the tool they must have gotten from a moth. There was a chance they could enter the dream and quench the Light herself. A slim chance, but perhaps they would try.
He looked down as they slumped over slightly, leaning against Grimmchild. It was difficult to tell if they were asleep. They were nearly the same size–the vessel and his child. Another child. One of hundreds. Thousands. He could sense their nightmares buried far below the kingdom, the dreaming fears of minds that were not meant to exist.
No cost too great.
Grimm snorted.
It was not his place to judge. But he was going to anyway.

I ask this like every person who's into HK that I follow so I'm also dropping this question off at your feet too;
How do you think Hollow's reunion with White Lady would go after the whole Radiance/sealing fiasco? Perhaps Pale King too if the fucker's alive?
FUCK ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE U ASKED THIS HUH
(I'm gonna put this under read more bc it's kinda long (and all over the place so I apologise in advance))
OK SO
I think, with the state she's in during the game, she'd probably be pretty dismissive?? Like, she'd likely comment on how they're free and the infection's gone, but as much as I'd love to say it'd be a tearful reunion, I don't really think that'd be the case ://
PK on the other hand!!! There'd be A LOT of tearful apologies, ESPECIALLY once he sees their missing arm and other scars, bc HE did that to them, HE put them in the position to get hurt and HE convinced himself and them that they'd be able to forever contain a wrathful goddess with thousands of years of experience on them. The fact that they're even alive in the first place is a miracle in itself, nevermind the fact that they're able to walk around.
He'd probably claim them as his child and try to "make up" for their shitty childhood in any way he can. Which. Isn't much considering the kingdom is in shambles. Whereas before the fall of Hallownest he'd be able to shower them with presents and build a statue in their honour or name a stag station after them or something, the most he can do at this point is like. Hunt for them. And do they even need to eat?? With the whole technically not alive thing?? Eh it's the thought that counts.
On the other hand!! I think the outcome of the reunion entirely depends on where Hollow is in their recovery.
If they're barely healed and only just starting to confront the horror that was their upbringing, they'd still be battling with A LOT of guilt. As far as they're concerned, it's their fault for not being hollow that the kingdom fell. They're broken, and they were too selfish to admit that before it was too late, and now everyone is either dead or EXTREMELY traumatised.
The WL reunion would probably set back any progress they make if it's early on enough, bc they were honestly probably looking forward to the reunion. They know how much she wished for them to have been a real child, and now she can have that!! Sure it's a little late, but any relationship with their mother would be better than the cold dismissal they faced while growing up.
And then they walk into her chamber and she's nothing like the woman they remember, and they know it was childish and silly to believe she'd be exactly the same, but after coming across Dryya's body (something they will file away and confront much later, because Dryya is dead wtf how) they'd foolishly hoped that maybe their mother would take them into her arms like she saw her do so often for Hornet and their father.
But instead she barely acknowledges their presence, and dismisses them outright. As if they're a pest, not her child who has been locked away for centuries. And maybe she's right. Who are they to claim her as their mother when she's never wanted anything to do with them. So they leave.
If Hollow is later on in their recovery, like they've built up a support system, they've found themselves, figured out who they are outside of the Pure Vessel persona, I think they'd be able to recognise that their mother isn't well, and be able to stomach the dismissal and off handed insults in favour of trying to get her help. They'd definitely make use of that support system, but I think knowing their own worth would go a long way towards whether or not they let WL's comments get to them. And I think eventually, they'd be able to have afternoon tea and chat or something. But that would take A WHILE.
PK TIME OK
So I think the outcome of the PK reunion wouldn't change a TON, but there'd be a few key differences:
If Hollow is early in their recovery, they'd be VERY confused as to why their father is apologising to THEM. Bc they should be the one apologising right??? It's their failure to be what they were supposed to that led to the fall of the kingdom right?? Why is their father bringing them food??? He's never done this before?? And holy shit is he crying??!?!
Also hc that Hollow is the type of person to start crying if someone they care about is crying. So. Make of that what you will.
Overall, it'd be a mix of guilt and confusion and also relief?? Bc wow my father doesn't hate me that's a shock. I imagine the Radiance would use their wish for PK's approval against them A LOT so it's not unlikely that they've got a scenario in their head where their father proclaims that he despises them and then fortnite dances on their body after smiting them.
Later on in their recovery however, they'd be at a point where they can acknowledge that the way they were brought up was cruel, and they didn't deserve to be treated like an object, but I also don't think they'd be able to bring themselves to be angry at PK.
As the Pure Vessel, they were around PK in a lot of private moments, and it's not unlikely that he'd vent to them in the same way a person would vent to their favourite teddy bear. He'd vent about his guilt, his worries, sometimes even directly addressing them about how he wished things could be different. And bc I also headcannon Hollow to be EXTREMELY empathetic, they can UNDERSTAND why he made the decisions he did, and how he genuinely believed that he had no choice.
Honestly though?? I don't think the actual reunion would go much differently here. Maybe they'd be a bit quicker to hug back, maybe the tears would come sooner, maybe they'd be far less stiff and finally allow themselves to collapse against PK and let him hold them for the first time since they were tiny, but overall?? He'd still bring them presents out of guilt, and they'd still be confused as to why tf their father is trying to feed them so much.
OH ALSO PK would definitely go through a period of being ridiculously overprotective, like someone goes to pat Hollow on the shoulder and suddenly they've got a bitey Wyrm hanging off their arm. (Someone's overcompensating for 2 decades worth of protective instincts methinks)
Hollow's response to that would probably be a mix of embarassed and pleased, bc holy shit father wants to protect me but also nooo that's my friend he needs his arm get off

By the way, in the stream the idea of having a grub fight was put out, and I had the idea for a lore tablet fight, so here's the timeline for the fights
-Area fight
-Stag Station Fight
-HK Fight
-Any other fights brought forward by people, or thought up by me (most huggable fight, grub fight, lore tablet fight, etc)

Once while trying to write an hk fic i immediately got stuck at dirtmouth because I had to get my main character to the city and i realized "wait. why would there even be a pilgrims way if there are stagstations" and thinking about it the pilgrims way prolly just came before the stag stations, possibly before the kingdom was at its peak

i don't see enough therapists ocs in HK fanfic, so i made an oc cause everyone in Hallownest needs therapy (despite the fact i don't write much fanfic, let alone any of HK)
notes on this oc:
she came from a ¨neighboring¨ kingdom, she volunteered alongside others in helping Hallownest heal if not move into the other kingdom (so she isn't the only therapist coming)
she ends up taking residence in Dirtmouth cause there's a lot of patients there (also cause it has an easy stag-station to city of tears for similar reasons)
she's a descendant of some moths that fled Hallownest, she's not super connected with the larger moths-that-fled-from-Hallownest community, but it did influence her decision to come
she eventually gets asked to help Hollow after a) they start speaking sign and b) it's been a while since she arrived (she gets asked cause others recommended her)
yes, she wishes Hornet and Ghost would go therapy themselves, but largely just tries to get Hollow to advise them to go

Games i played update
i managed to lose my hollow knight save file again yesterday. for the second? third? time in the past months and 5th? 6th? time in total. yay
anyway today i played mostly HK and Chicory, which i bought earlier today
details and screenshots under cut
also sorry for the lack of image description in alt text, im just too tired andd barely feel alive from a mental health point of view so.. yeah
[should also mention possible spoilers for hollow knight and chicory]
So i started with Chicory. Now i have absolutely no idea why, but my drawing tablet kept acting up and thinking there's an input in the bottom right corner for some reason. I'll have to look into it at some point
Tumblr media
^ the only screen i fully coloured in because.. well she deserves some happiness
Tumblr media
^ i also absolutely love how it looks on the map lmao
Tumblr media
^ and also her face when her father is talking to her lol
anyway onto HK
i played a bit yesterday after managing to lose my saves again, but what i did was install scarab and try to play rando. anyhow today i played on a proper savefile.
Tumblr media
^ (i was afk for part of it but yeah.. pretty much 3 hours straight lmao)
Tumblr media
^ her <2222 i tried to sing along but i had to drop several octaves
now onto the bug showcase (hehe. cause bugs. and bugs. forget about it)
Tumblr media
^ floating body lol
Tumblr media
^ ok this one's very weird. so this screenshot was taken right after i respawned at the bench. While I was dying i killed something, which dropped geo. My assumption is that somehow, due to Gathering Swarm, which i had equipped, one geo glitched and someow was added to my geo count?? idk it's weird (alos i just realised that i might have forgotten to unlock king's station stag. but not sure. i think i did tho when i got the hallownest seal from above)
Tumblr media
^ spikes are merely a suggestion
v also this is the progress i made. no map screenshots cause i wanted to use no maps. Sorry Cornifer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also i got the hunter's journal but i think it only shows counts after world sense and i have yet to beat any dreamer. tho the path to watcher knights is open. i just dont want to fight them until i have at least 7 masks. and/or maybe also one more notch so i could shaman+strength combo

“Those old stags could've been ferocious fighters. If only they weren't so servile... “ - Tiso, created by Tiso Spencer
He is but an old man, loyal to his job. Tiso, just leave him be, you contemptuous fool.
I wonder how Tiso Spencer feels about his character being treated like so.
