PoSH in Higher Education Institutions in India | Poshadvo
Tumblr media
On July 25, 2022, an Odisha college student accused the school's physics instructor of rape and sexual harassment. The accused lecturer, who was the institution's reader, had also held the role of NCC officer in the Naval wing. Despite the female student coming to the institute with a formal complaint, the school's internal committee did not discover any proof of the claims she claimed. The probe didn't start until the Higher Education Department became aware of the situation.
A Presidency University student from Kolkata filed a formal complaint with the internal committee of the university accusing Mahitosh Mandal, the former head of the department, of sexual harassment on July 17, 2022.
It is believed that the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, is essential for protecting female employees from sexual harassment at the workplace. It is significant to highlight that educational institutions play a significant role in this while also including formal and informal workspaces and that the law is not confined to the corporate environment in the formal sphere.
A federal law that forbids sexual harassment of female employees and students in higher education institutions is the UGC (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redress of Sexual Harassment of Women Workers and Students in Higher Education Institutions) Regulation, 2015.
In an effort to make changes, the UGC (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redress of Sexual Harassment of Women Workers and Students in Higher Education Institutions) Regulation, 2015 requires all universities, colleges, and deemed universities to adhere to a set of rules to ensure that the campuses are free from sexual harassment.
In order to prevent gender bias, the term "students"assures that the legislation covers every person registered in a specific higher education institution, regardless of their gender.
An internal complaints committee must be established at every higher education institution in order to address sexual harassment claims. It must be dubbed the ICC and adhere to UGC-mandated rules if a body already exists with this goal.

India is not a signatory of the UN Refugee Convention, which has meant that Tibetans fleeing to India do not have official rights, and have to rely on arbitrary decisions to retain their place in the country. The Indian government refused to register births among Tibetan community between 1950 and 1986, which meant that very few Tibetans have been able to obtain Indian citizenship. To this day, most Tibetans in India are not able to own property; they cannot apply for government jobs; and, although they have been granted funding to set up educational institutions, university admissions can be difficult or expensive, with students without Indian citizenship forced to apply as foreigners and pay the accompanying higher fees. Moreover, while it was willing to provide some assistance for their sustenance and education, the Indian government would not lobby for the Tibetan cause on the international stage.

The war on Gaza is being used to advance fascism and white supremacy in the U.S. It is also opening people’s eyes to global systems that require genocide to continue. To stand with Palestine is to transform those systems and build a different world.
"...Israel is a fascist state, and its relentless genocide is blasting open more pathways for global fascism to establish itself. A growing number of fundamentalists and authoritarians entrenched in white supremacy and Islamophobia have been setting course across the globe over the last few years. Most recently, Argentina voted in a Trump-like right-wing president in November 2023 who is a strong supporter of Israel, pushing a Zionist agenda, waving the Israeli flag at his rallies in October, and making Israel one of his first trips as president. In January, as Israel continued its bombardment of Gaza, India’s fundamentalist authoritarian Modi celebrated the Hindu temple on the razed grounds of the Ayodhya mosque in January, and Italy’s government passed laws to protect public expressions of fascism. Senegal’s president postponed elections, jailed movement leaders, and sparked massive protests. These moves point towards a growing fascist consolidation. Israel’s attacks are emboldened, not just in Gaza but in the military and social violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. The U.S.’s brutal attacks on Yemen in response to their economic blockades in defense of Palestinians show what the empire is willing to do to protect itself, even in the face of global condemnation.
The conditions are set for Zionism to fuel fascism on a global level and prevent social movements from rising in the United States. Zionism and anti-Palestinian racism have been fundamental to the “war on terror” that started 20 years ago when 9/11 was used as a pretext for permanent war. The U.S. created legal and social frameworks of “terrorism” to undermine global resistance and to counter dissent, public speech, and organizing in the United States. Zionism and the War on Terror have been tools used to protect capital and also to attack resistance and liberation movements, particularly those led by Black, Palestinian, Muslim, and immigrant communities. Globally, the U.S. uses the threat of “terrorism” to expand military outposts in every corner of the world, and here, the FBI uses expanded surveillance to track Black anti-police protesters, and Zionism becomes a tool to turn protest into terrorism.
Zionism is a perfect vehicle for the expansion of the police state in the United States. Both liberals and the extreme right in the United States are using Zionism to advance a strategy that expands a social base for fascism, deepens control of public institutions, and sets the stage for consolidation at the federal level, protected by the police state with support from financial institutions, media, and higher education. Today, legislation weaponizing the definition of antisemitism to equate it with anti-Zionism and stifle pro-Palestinian actions is passing with bipartisan support. These attacks allow increased constriction of public discourse and dissent, which will be legislated at school board, university, city, state, and federal levels."
"... Contending with Zionism requires a break with empire. In short: there is nothing we can do about Israel, other than everything.
The opportunity within this moment is to develop a sharper strategy that activates the millions of people who see the faultlines and feel the rift."
Stephanie Guilloud, 20 March 2024

The Shri Ram group of institutions was founded by Sir Shri Ram in the year 1926, and he was instrumental in setting up premium educational institutions such as ‘The Shri Ram College of Commerce’ and ‘Lady Shri Ram College for Women’.
The Shri Ram schools established in 1988 are manifested in the vision and mission of Smt. Manju Bharat Ram. At The Shri Ram Universal School North Bengaluru, we believe in the philosophy that “Every child is unique & born with inherent abilities”. We follow individualised instructional approaches while providing assistance and mentoring effective learning in children.
How do we at The Shri Ram Universal School North Bengaluru establish a new equilibrium or a new format or norm for ‘effective learning’?
Our core area of focus is to identify the learning styles in each child and incorporate the learning objectives and outcomes closely with visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and tactile approaches strategically.
Our curriculum and teaching-learning pedagogical practices are ‘exclusive to all Shri Ram group of schools’ and, in turn, set in a ‘Unique approach and identity to all Shrites’. The Shri Ram Universal School imparts quality education in a sprawling world-class campus spread across 4.5 acres of land with an Olympic size Athletic track, skating rink, swimming pool, cricket pitch, football field and basketball courts, taekwondo area, tennis court, robotics lab, indoor stadium, splash pool, language labs, dance, theatre, and an audio-visual room.
While promoting individuality and ‘Holistic development’, We prepare children to be strong and confident global citizens with Indian values.
With a sturdy vision to touch more lives and empower each of them. We are certain to lead each of them to a “better and a brighter tomorrow”. The school is a beautiful place, and as we consciously focus on a cordial, conducive, and happy environment each new day. Happiness is key to success and good health, and together as educators and academicians, we are a “Happy School” aspiring to rise above the rest and mark our presence remarkably.
