I saw someone say Between Us is not a plot based show - it’s character based. And yes, 1000%

But more than that, it’s not a plot based show it’s a character driven behind the scenes look at Win and Team from UWMA. These two stories are interconnected (obviously) in a way that makes the plot exist heavily in UWMA and (for WinTeam) the character driven story and growth occur in Between Us.

UWMA is happening in the background, but Win and Team exist outside of that story and Between Us is that existence; that secondary space.

Their love story is (in some ways) messier than Pharm and Dean because fate isn’t involved - Win and Team have no deep previous connection. They hooked up on a swim trip and the next thing they knew Team had a safe place and Win had found the first person who was reluctant to take what he’d give AND willing to give in return.

Between Us is like the best of the fanfic world. It’s taking two beloved characters and giving them life behind the camera, in the spaces we haven’t really seen before. It doesn’t need the corny troupes or the redundant plot points that always exist in dramas (though it has some) because the world these characters live in has already done that.

That rain scene was so damn emotional but necessary Team is literally at his lowest point and all he wants is to be with Win because thats who he feels the safest with

And Team trusting Win enough to tell him what happened is such a huge step for both of them as well because it shows how much Team trusts him and helps Win understand him better

BounPrem absolutely did their shit in this scene the emotion that was put into it was executed perfectly

Overall the whole scene was really beautiful

I realized this morning that when Team meets Win’s mother in the novel, she’s immediately charmed by him and effectively adopts him on the spot.

The novel doesn’t show any of WanTul’s development, but I’m wildly fixated on the standard Team’s unknowingly set for Tul and how it’s going to ruin his life.

“Mae, this is Team. He’s training to become a professional athlete with aspirations to compete in the Olympics.”

“…This is Tul. He punched a dragon last night. Twice.”

I’m rewatching the consent scene because I love it so much, it’s rare to see such a dedicated and clear consent scene: first checking whether Team’s drunk, whether he’s even capable of consenting and answering questions, and then asking further questions - I truly love to see it. But the more I watch, I start to feel like it also speaks to some insight about Win.

Was it sexy? Of course it was, there’s nothing sexier than consent, making sure all parties are aware and present in the moment, and confirming desire and how you want to express it. Was it necessary? Yes, it always is. But looking further unnecessarily so it also really got me thinking about the scene earlier between Win and Dean.

We saw Win say he’s never had anything that was truly his, it was either given to him (from his older brother) or he had to give it away (to his younger brother). He’s never had anything to care about before. He’s never really had control over those things either, it’s just the assumed “natural” middle child role. He learnt that nothing was truly his and nothing could stay with him forever so he just lets those things happen until everything become unimportant, nothing was interesting enough to care about because it wouldn’t stay his.

And then we see him facing something (both the situation and person) he’s finally interested in, something he wants for himself (he’s never had before). He’s begun to let something become important to him whether he realises or not. Something - a situation and a person - that requires care.

So first he makes sure they both have choice and control in the situation, that they’re both aware of what’s happening and with who, and capable of deciding things. Nothing is taken as a given or assumed, he needs consent.

Second, he makes sure that this situation is his, that this moment with Team belongs to him. He makes sure that he’s not receiving the feelings, passion (maybe body and heart even) that belong to someone else (an existing partner/SO). He makes sure he’s not giving away the meaning of it (if Team was drunk/not aware of the situation or who he’s with). He’s not giving away the power of the moment over to alcohol or the memory of it over to a drunken mistake because this is something and someone that’s important. This moment is theirs, together. A moment that can be his. Maybe something and someone that could finally stay with him.

Dean and Pharm danced around each other with their red string for months turning destiny into a love that can outlast death and rebirth itself through food and love and nightmares.

Win and Team started weaving a hemp rope out of kisses and consent and comfort from the moment they met and are building a life and relationship that is their choice and their choice alone.

Makes Win Feel Wanted

So this is something that has bothered me since Between Us debuted. People online screaming “well, when is Team going to do something?” “The synopsis says that Team makes Win feel wanted, but we’ve never seen him do anything,” blah blah blah.

It’s Team. Team is what makes Win fell wanted. Not what Team “does” — Team existing as himself. There’s no magical moment or action, it’s Team being himself and allowing Win to care for him.

That’s it.

Win lack of feeling wanted prior to the beginning of the show is directed linked to his placement in his family. He’s not the eldest, meaning the expectations are less — sure — but he is also FIRST at nothing. Waan’s done all the good and all the bad before Win. He’s also not the youngest, he isn’t the perfect younger child who gets away from with stuff and who has limited expectations suffocating his every decision.

Win is in perpetual limbo. He’s going to help with the family business mostly because that’s what Waan is doing and so that Wiew doesn’t have to. Not because he’s wanted or needed.

Dean is Win’s best friend, no one can deny that. But Dean isn’t searching for Win — and Win is well aware that once Dean finds the person he’s endlessly waiting for Win becomes, at best, a third wheel. And at worst, forgotten.

So, no it isn’t an action that Team was supposed to do or a thing he was supposed yo say — it’s not him begging of crying — it is his existing and letting Win exist with and care for him.

So many people seem to have missed that entirely. Not everything has to be written or shown explicitly to be true.

in uwma they are always bickering and we always saw team pushing him away (literally 😂) while in between us we see how deep their relationship actually runs and how safe they feel with each other
