I haven't been on here in a while and honestly this isn't an ask and doesn't warrant a response but! Genuinely thank you to you and Bee for being huge inspirations for me personally. Whenever I hit a bad bought of writers block I find myself wandering back to your fics and feeling a little more refreshed. I remember the days of being back in the server (hellscape) and being forever grateful for when I first started out my fic and you reached out to give me advice. It definitely changed the directions in which I took, and its definitely better then it would have been. Anyway, thank you guys. You rock, be safe.
I think it's our duty as writers, hobbyist or professional, to lift one another up. May it be through advice or critique or just gushing. I always appreciate all three. Writing is a really fucking hard skill to pick up and hone- I hope you're proud of your progress as I am.
Also I will always recommend We Are Not Alive on YouTube- they talk a lot about writing. But most of all read a lot of books and write lots of shitty drafts.

just realized the server got officially deleted… glad I saved my lore convos and r.i.p (rest in piss)

Thought it was time. Everyone who wanted to stay friends, screenshot lore, etc- has long since done so. While I originally wanted to keep it up for everyone's archival purposes there's a handful of people who have caused us more trouble than keeping a dead chat up is worth. So it go byebye.

I'm back and can I just say I have SO much renewed respect for you and Bee for remastering old works. I'm currently trying to re-master something I never even finished and holy shit world-building and remembering every detail to connect it all together is so tiring and annoying. Any advice on how to better keep track of plot points and or how to create better world-building? Anyway hope ya'll are still kicking ass and taking names. Peace and thanks, HelpfulIQ
One word: Scrivener
It's a writers paradise for organized book writing. It's 60 bucks flat no membership but you can try it for 30 days (days only count if you use it that day so if you use it once a week for a month you only use 4/30 trial days) it's the only way I'm keeping track of changes with syg so we'll bc otherwise I'd be in the trenches.
Reedsy is another good free option! I just prefer Scriveners format better

Good morning Rea, little itty bitty question. I'm currently on chapter 11 of my own silly fanfiction bout the boys and I feel like I'm leaving so so many plot holes. Any suggestions on planning/pacing. I know you and Abby aren't all knowing writers but I love your work and figured you might have the tiniest clue. (Unlike me, apparently.)
Abby keeps a folder on xir phone of important moments and lines to refer back to later. This keeps characterization and plot more on the straight track.
The reason we can keep plot holes on a lower level (though they definitely exist) is because there are two of us. Two heads are always better than one. Since we are both equally invested in the fics, we bouce ideas, plot, characters, and chapter flow off one another. I tend to make narrative mistakes that Abby fixes in the editing phase. After Abby edits, I read over the chapter to make sure it's cohesive.
Find someone to chat with. Even if it's casual, friends also interested in the boys could bring up interesting ideas.
Another thing, have a super basic plot outline. Have an idea how long you want to spend in your beginning, middle, and end- as well as the in-between phases.
Research anything based in the real world/ folk lore/ psych, etc before writing about it. A more factual approach gives a more "reputable" look about your writing. I.E: make u look smart so ppl will sometimes overlook little mistakes.

also pls i LOVE syg, i be rereading that shiz like a drug slash jay but fr it literally transformed me into this little freak writer (metaphorically and literally) so i love and appreciate yall for that one. gonna act like I don't have a 'favorite line' doc on the story.. srsly though, some of the dialogue in SYG and even early YCYD is very cash money and silly. (by that I mean gen z coded.)
I'm glad you still find value in syg. It started me actually writing I'd never published anything online before and getting so much positive feedback was nice. I actually didn't write like at all before syg lol. Syg mostly inspires me to write better.
And yeah I used to write a little more silly. I still try to let humor shine through in the hardest situations. I pulled back because I ended up dating myself, ruining scene momentum, and over writing. I also just ended up leaning more toward writing edgier stuff where there's less room to be funny haha.

Hey! I just wanted to show my appreciation for my favorite authors right now, and to ask for a bit of advice. I'm an author for a creepypasta fanfic (Bloody Knives In My Leftovers), and recently I've been updating more often. I was wondering if you guys had any tips for fighting scenes? And or time management/dealing with writers block. I used to be apart of the discord server (I don't know if bringing it up is taboo or not b/c I've been out of the loop since last year) and I kind of miss the constant flow of inspiration. (And yes, I know the server was shut down lol.) I'm just looking for a little advice here instead b/c I can't think of anyone better to ask. But yeah, that's all! Can't wait to read more from you guys <3 :) - Jen
With workflow: I write everyday if I can. It's good to make writing a habit. Try writing in the same place same time, where you no one's gonna bother you. It'll be hard at first but if you stick with a schedule, it helps to negate writer's block. It also helps that I have severe ADHD and hyperfocus on writing hours at a time and treat it like a job. I take fanfic writing semi seriously, not bc I have to, but because that's how I like to write and treat my writing. I also have a priledge of that time. Which I'm aware everyone may not have unfortunately.
Inspiration: consume media in your particular genre and more outside your genre. We draw inspiration from slasher movies and books in the horror genre. Grady Hendrix does a lot of fun horror novels I drew tons of inspiration from (particularly Final Girl Support Group) also just chatting about your ideas with friends really helps you flesh out ideas in your head. Makes you and them excited!
Fight scenes: mix what makes sense, what looks cool, and what would make your audience go bananas. Third thing comes with more time. We always outline our chapters so when writing I have a basic idea of where I want to take it. It'll be like: character A has a hurt leg. Character B goes for said leg. Makes sense. Maybe we throw character a into a glass table. Dramatic, looks cool. Character B says stupid one liner. Fun, audience usually goes a lil nanners. I watch a lot of final confrontations from horror movies for inspiration.
I'm glad you enjoy our goofy lil things and I wish you luck.
Quick note on the server: it's not taboo to bring it up. I just didn't see the point to announcing it here when what was happening was in the server. Those who were there know. Those who were there in the final weeks know even more. That's that really. Not a sore spot it's just something that happened.
