Wasteland two
The truth find comfort in the dark as does the spirits that haunt daisy. She sees them in the morning when she's brushing her dark hair. Behind her in the mirror, some old and decrepit. Others with a fire in their eyes and blood splattered across them. Daisy's learned she prefers the older ghosts. The ghosts who aren't mad about their passing or the idea of being a spirit stuck in a sort of limbo. Some attach themselves to her. The calmer ones who do not feel the need to harm her for things she has not done. They know that she does not wish to see them as they do not wish to be dead. But others. The violent ones who died too sudden. They like to wait in her room while she sleeps, jealousy oozing off of them.
Of course there are more innocent spirits. Ones that might not know they are dead or can not comprehend the complex thing death is. Sometimes accompanied by animals as if to guard them from the bad things they could not while they were alive. She's seen children far too young to be so hurt
Now. Today is the day that daisy dies. She does not know this. As no human knows of their death except when they take their fate into their own hands. Daisy can tell something is going to happen today. Something that shall affect her greatly, although she does not know that much about it. The spirits have been off all day, leading to her being jumpy all day. Some just staring at her and others grinning and whispering to each other. A few familiar spirits that are seeming to pity her. One of the child spirits trying to hold her hand and lead her somewhere. Daisy ignores it, thinking nothing of it.
After all, she sees ghosts what exactly is normal for her? She has always been little misfortune. Not knowing why she can see the dead or why she couldn't push them away in the midst of the night. When the loneliness in her heart starts to ooze out. Seeping out of her pores practically. After all, nobody wants to be friends with the ghost girl. An incident that's followed her for years upon years. One of broken trust of children. She never forgave Ella but she understands.
Daisy herself was terrified. The young girl told her friend from down the road that she saw things no other child saw. Things no child should see. That was the day the Daisy Rosalind vowed that she not trust anybody. And she's kept herself to that vow... mostly. But she couldn't help but let in that curly haired boy who stood out also. Who everybody called a freak due to his love of nature and his odd way of thinking. One of her closest friends through the years.
I almost forgot one of her greatest friends. A tall girl who looked like she was the protector of all things meak and small. Who stood strong when she faced the fire of her peers. Daisy giving the girl the nickname Sully early on into their friendship. But her real name being Keriander. Yet the girl never gets called that, at least by her dearest daisy. Sully always takes care of daisy. Most of the time in the smallest ways. Just a few words here and there, or a snack when daisy has forgone eating all day due to the spirit making her feel nauseated. Sully was a year or two older then daisy leading to her having already graduated and working in a library. Work the tall girl enjoyed as she loves literature. And she loved being able to spread the joy it brought her when she read it.
Although she knew Shakespeare might not be for everyone but she is very well read so she could easily give someone a book suited for their needs. Nobody bothered daisy when she was with Sully. Her tall stature and few tattoos visible making her seem intimidating. But daisy only saw the soft rose color of the girls plush cheeks and the bounce of her short chestnut hair.
She simply thought of her friend as a large teddy bear to hug when thunderstruck as if she were a child again. Sully does not know of Daisy's gift. Neither do Jake,Josh's younger twin by five minutes, or Josh. She learned that lesson the hard way. But she knows deep down that Sully not Josh would judge her. At least she hoped they wouldn't as their some of her only friends. She's convinced that what happened all those years ago will repeat but this time she wouldn't have time to make new friends.
Although eventually Ella moved and daisy never heard of the girl again. Sometimes she wonders what happened to her but she doesn't dwell on those thoughts long. Quickly shifting them in another direction. Sometimes towards her few current friends. Others drifting to the next random thought that pops into her head. Often those thoughts being about things that truly didn't matter to her. What new movie was coming on her usual stations. What reruns of her favorite show that's been off the air for decades are playing tonight. If her father is going to make that pizza she likes tomorrow. Or if Josh had feelings for her.
That one usually popped in and she couldn't shake the question. After all, the girl had been friends with him for years. As the years past she fell for her best friend. She chastised herself for being so cliche. Even if it is such a sweet and adorable cliche. Childhood friends into lovers. Although she doesn't know about that part. She doesn't know of the curly haired boys feelings for her. Or how he wishes she would see the way he looks at her. Josh just imagining what it would be like to kiss her lips with her signature cherry chapstick. To feel her warm embrace as more than a friend. Perhaps today could be the day Josh thought to himself as he was getting ready to go to Daisy's house this morning.
It was a little bit of a walk but the boy didn't mind. Not when he got to be in the nature he so loved. Of course he isn't the fondest of the summer heat but to him? Daisy is worth the trek through the forest to her house. She's always lived on the edge of town. Josh packed his backpack with the fact that he was staying the night in mind. Clothes, deodorant so he doesn't embarrass himself in the morning, things to hold his curls back as daisy applies their face masks. The list goes on.
But one thing he packed was special. A ring. Now hush, not an engagement ring. A promise ring. Josh saved every penny he could working in the pizza place by the movie theater where daisy happened to work. The ring was one he knew would capture her heart. A simple gold band with an oval diamond set into it with an arrangement of smaller diamonds surrounded it and 2 sets of 3 medium diamonds set on the very outside. Simple enough but elegant. When the curly haired boy saw it,he,hee instantly thought of his future lover.
Well he hoped she would be. He could only wish. Although the ring was a tad out of his price range, he still felt the urge to get it for her. His hands shook as he placed the box that held the precious item in the front pocket of his backpack. Planning on giving it to daisy after their late night swim. When it was just the two of them on the deck drying in the cool summer night, looking at the stars as she so loved to do. Josh quickly zipped the pocket shut, beginning to sweat at the thought of possibly ruining his best friendship. He lugged the bag onto his shoulder and, grabbing his skateboard, he was off. Making sure to grab the bag of snacks he bought for the night the two had planned ahead.
The boy knew all of Daisy's and his shared favorite foods and always treated daisy to a few of hers that weren't his favorite. Like a large resealable bag of dill pickle sunflower seeds, her favorite snack. Or the big bag of suckers that disappear by the end of the night. Josh always made sure to get her favorite brand of course. He begins to skate down the long and winding road that leads to Daisy's home.
Speaking of Daisy and her home inside the very place Josh was heading the girl was tidying her room. Always feeling embarrassed when he would come over and she would have her underwear hazardly slung around the cozy room. Although that usually just happened when it was an unexpected visit. As often as they happen, you would think the girl would pick up her underwear. Josh always blushes when he sees her panties and bras on the floor but never says anything. Only ever imagining daisy in them, then instantly scolding himself for such a dirty thought of his best friend who probably didn't have feelings for him.
Daisy opens her closet and quickly tosses her dirty clothes into the closet. Mentally reminding herself to do laundry once Josh leaves tomorrow. Deciding it's not that important right now.
She glances around the room trying to decide if she needs to pick up anything else before finishing her quick cleaning. She doesn't have time to decide as Josh walks through the front door, announcing his presence as he always does.
He never knocks or rings the doorbell, having known daisy for so long and been visiting the home for ages. Neither of her parents mind, seeing as most of the time when he does this they aren't there to witness it. Even when they are, by now they're used to the loud boy entering their home in such a way.
He begins to walk towards Daisy's room as she opens the pastel yellow door. Josh feels himself almost instantly start to smile seeing the dark haired girl. His grin grows seeing her wearing his sweatshirt, he left it there knowing that specific one of his was her favorite, and a pair of yoga shorts. Daisy rushes to hug Josh, making him stumble back into the wall. He laughs wrapping his arms around her waist.
"Hi petal," a nickname he's had for her ages, "I brought snacks." She let's go of him to rush into her room, beginning to rummage around her DVD organizer. Always preferring DVDs, and tapes verses digital. She began to collect so much her parents had to get her organizers for every genre she owned. Although, horror was always the largest. Comedies were a close second, thanks to Josh.
The boy quickly follows into the room shutting the door behind him. Almost as if he knew the girl would ask him to before he could make it to the bed. Where he sets down his bag, tossing the grocery sack onto the floor next to daisy.
"Those are your snacks mama. I guessed you had your usual taki's." Daisy usually kept a bag of the hot chips within the house most days. Her grin grows as the tips of her ears become the softest pink. Wondering if Josh did this with all of his friends. Although deep down she knew he didn't. She knew that Josh and her had a most special bond that not many could say they shared. Daisy knew that he went out of his way to get her favorite snacks. Some that he wouldn't touch with a ten yard pole.
"What movie do you wanna watch joshie?," She turns to look at the boy who was standing behind her ",I got a few new ones when I went to Target earlier this week. Figured we needed some new material." Josh takes his shoes off, having always preferred to be barefoot as his brothers did, before sitting himself next to the honey eyed girl.
"Let's do our usual of horror before comedy?" A system devised so neither of them had nightmares, even if daisy was hard to scare she still got them.
Daisy nods before grabbing both the horror genre DVD organizer, and the comedy genre. Beginning to flip through the horror DVDs, she leans against Josh resting a head on his shoulder. A gesture he has never minded, in fact most of the time he welcomed it,due to his affection for the girl.
"I already have a pizza scheduled for later. Pepperoni, bacon, with a pretzel crust as we like." Josh smiled hearing about the familiar pizza order, the same order they've been getting for their movie nights for years. Usually if he was working, he would make it before he left and they would just heat it up when they got hungry.
"I got that new 'Halloween' movie that just came out and 'the evil within' if you want fresh meat for horror," she looks at him through her lashes
", and for comedy we have 'Tommy's night out' and 'we have to talk about last Friday night' it's a romcom." Josh hums for a moment, trying to decide.
"Let's do double horror. 'The evil within' and 'House of 1000 corpses' with 'we have to talk about last Friday night'" Daisy's eyes light up at the curly haired boys movie choices, 'House of 1000 corpses' being one of her favorite horror movies, by her favorite horror director too.
"Yay! I'll get them lined up. Why don't we do a full double feature and add 'Tommy's night out'?" Josh nods, figuring that it's been awhile since they've watched some of their choices. Daisy starts to set the movies in order that they'll watch them since horror always comes first and usually comedy last.
"I'll make the popcorn mama." He stands up before slowly padding to the kitchen, nearly bumping into the kitchen door due to being lost in his thoughts. His hands growing clammy once again at the thought of giving daisy the ring he was so certain about before. But now he doubts himself in his choices. Josh wonders if perhaps the girl would like a princess cut more. Or if she would favor a Ruby instead of the small oval diamond.
His thoughts begin to spiral as he hits the counter with his hip, bringing him back into reality. "Ow" he rubs his hip as his other hand goes into the cabinet looking for the box of movie theater popcorn Daisy kept. Josh finds the box after a moment, reaching in and grabbing a bag. Quickly tearing off the plastic wrapping and opening the microwave. Tossing the pack of kernels into the microwave, he begins to hunt for Daisy's favorite popcorn bowl. Originally it was a Halloween candy bowl Clyde had used years ago but Daisy always used it for their popcorn. It being a rather large Halloween themed Mickey Mouse head.
He spots a bright orange ear peeking behind some plates and reaches for it. After setting it on the counter the microwave beeps, indicating that the popcorn was done. Careful not to burn his hands Josh pours the buttery popcorn into the bowl. In her room, Daisy had put in the first movie. Moving the bag of various snacks on the bed, she makes sure her fans going. Knowing how warm Josh gets due to his own body temperature, she often called him her personal space heater. Something ironically made the boy melt. Always making him wish she would call him hers.
As the curly haired boy walks into the room, he softly smiles. Heart swelling and filling with warmth. Something only daisy could do, or thoughts about daisy. His thoughts always swirl around in his head usually wrapping around the image of the honey eyed girl Josh always has in his head. Or at least one of the images he has in his mind. Always having so many because he can't focus on just one, saying that she's too good to be defined by one lone imagine in his mind. Daisy spots Josh standing in the doorway
"Aren't you coming in?" She raises one of her dark brows at him. The tips of his ears go a soft red due to the fact that he had been caught. Nevertheless he walks over setting the popcorn on the nightstand
"Sorry I was just daydreaming" Josh brushes it off and slips under the covers, waiting for daisy to slide into his arms and start the movie. She quickly turns off the light, leaving nothing but the soft hue of her oogie boogie night light and the television to light the room. Daisy presses play before crawling into Josh's arms.
A few moments later she feels the temperature dip to an icy cool. Brushing it off as the fan making her room cooler the girl just snuggles into Josh's arms even more. Not a minute later she feels a white hot pain down her torso, following along her spine. Starting at the valley of her breasts and being unable to tell where it stopped.
Never having had this happen before, Daisy tried not to panic but the pain only gets worse. Lingering for a few minutes before slowly subsiding. Realizing she had accidentally dug her nails into Josh's arm.
" I'm so sorry I just got so scared because of the movie, do you want me to get you anything for them? I have my first aid in the bathroom." Daisy sits up turning to look at the boy behind her "hmmm?," He looks down at his arm
"oh it's fine. Just a little red mark" Josh gives her a soft smile trying to tell her it's fine.
"I uh...have to go to the bathroom. You don't have to pause it" Quickly pecking his cheek before she hops off the bed, rushing to the bathroom across the hall from her bedroom.
Daisy can still feel the burning going down her chest, sliding a hand up the sweatshirt she feels a raised line. Right where it felt like a red hot knife had been drug against her skin. She winces taking off the sweatshirt and her bra. Instantly spotting the bright red line...bleeding ever so slightly. Almost as someone had raked their nail down to her belly button and then following with a thin knife or paper cut. Noticing some spots are still intact but barely. Daisy scrambles to find her first aid kit, while trying not to alert Josh. Quickly finding it, she grabs the antibiotic cream and unscrews the cap. Before she grabs some tissue and wipes away the tiny droplets of blood starting to form. Cursing herself for not having an antiseptic in the kit and putting the antibiotic cream onto the cut.
Whilst letting it dry, she looks around for a moment. Finding antiseptic in the back of one of the drawers she sighs. "Might as well." After capping the antibiotic, she opens the antiseptic and starts to apply it to the cut. It running between the valley of her breasts down to her belly button, a solid 11 inches. As Daisy applies the antiseptic she hisses as the sting. Breathing slightly heavily she waits for the cream to dry, the girl begins to put away the first aid kit.
In the room across the hall Josh is shifting trying to get comfortable. But he can't due to his situation that daisy partially caused. Running her hands through his hair, tugging on it every now and then. He sighs before trying to get comfortable before she gets back so she doesn't ...feel him when she crawls back into the bed. Daisy quickly makes sure the cream is dry before slipping on the sweatshirt. Deciding to forgo the bra as it would only irritate the scratch.
Leaving the bra in the sink as she makes the small walk from the bathroom to her bed.
"Sorry I had to pee." She climbs back into the bed wiggling, trying to get comfortable. Josh bites back a groan, wrapping his arms around daisy once she gets settled.
"S' okay mama" he tucks his head into her neck, going back to the movie. One of Daisy's hands finds it way to his soft curls, trying to keep her mind off the burning going down her chest. Twirling and scratching his scalp, occasionally tugging if she feels a twinge of pain.
Josh's thumb absentmindedly starts to rub circles on her soft hips, the other arm wrapped loosely around her waist. Quickly falling in trance of the movie. Daisy tries to get back into the movie but can't stop thinking about the cut. Wondering what caused it. Could it have been a spirit? They haven't ever been able to touch her or mark her before. Or could it have been something else?
@mini-red-hood :) one more part after this
