Sasha, do you mind expanding your thoughts on Halfworlds? I gotta know!

hi hi! sorry for the late reply i was thinking this through and trying to organise my thoughts ;;;

to start with i wish they had more budget and more runtime. (like it feels most of the budget was spent on the animated intro rather than clothes [and like you said the clothes could have been much much better) and lack of proper lightning) and the runtime doesn’t help either bc the 30 mins restricted them a lot, if they had 15 mins more for each ep I think the show would have benefited more/ it could have done a lot more difference.

speaking of the intro, it was really interesting how different characters narrated it, and how it tied in with each episode I appreciated the style to show the history too.

+ like I said in the tags i really thought s2 is a continuation of s1 so everything will be explored more in s2 but between today and yesterday i think the idea of each season being a stand-alone and things being left open ended is good

but at the same time the way there are so many untapped/unexplored potential and then focus on stuff that didn’t pay off i guess.

The way the first half set up the world (except it didn’t feel it was set up enough bc see (1)) while everything major happens in the second half but in a way rushed?

how nadia is mentioned by name (if i remember right) as juragan’s henchman so to speak and then we see her at the moths then we see her with her adopted child then the cd/video tapes collection. i think the order could have been reshuffled to include her more? But at the same time tie her in to the story and introduce concepts earlier? like if the show starts with her fighting/killing sarah’s parents (and after the child introduction i thought nadia didn’t kill sarah bc sarah reminded her of her own child) and then timeskip to sarah as she is now it would have included nadia from the start. and then we find more about nadia/demit in general earlier on and the priests role in all of this and how they controlled nadia (and maybe more demit? the dungeon behind the carpet felt like its way bigger than just two cells/rooms)

marni’s introduction is so cool (although i didn’t connect that she was the one who killed sarah’s friend until like way later ;;;) and her interactions with gusti were 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 wish we saw more of them

but i also wish we could have known about marni (like whats motivating her? Self interest sure but why? Just survival? like who was the old man marni visited asking for help (to find the tattoo parlour)? how do they know each other? from context i thought it might be like parent? (the way the old man said “you even look like a white woman now” reminded me of parental disapproval lmao but i am not sure!

The elders/council were underused till everyone was dead imo esp bandi and gorga, like gorga was tricking barata to think they are on the same side to then kill him and grab the gift yeah?

this might be bc im a lesbian but i really really thought that when pi was upset with sarah it was bc she was jealous of coki and not sarah lmao

the barata/sarah enemy-to-lovers!! so much potential!! except after they are already reaching the lovers part we realise the enemy connection, and then im ?? when did barata even fall in love? and trusting sarah enough to go to her when injured?

speaking of sarah, i really wish we could have seen her fighting, esp with her parents rings (and how did the toyul decide give sarah the rings? p sure they were under orders from juragan?) like you can’t just drop a comment in ep 1 about being badass and fighting other ppl and then not fighting ??

loved tony and ros <333 the introduction! the heart scene! the fight scenes! everything! <333 thought at the start they were aiming for tony to get the gift but then it was plans for ros but the fact they focused on them living first <3333

I think all in all most of my thoughts tend to end up with “if only they had enough budget/screentime they could have maybe done x y z better”
