Hi, hello! It's the last day of the year, and what a year 2023 has been. I moved to a different continent in Fall 2022, but I somehow found the time to keep writing and posting Star Wars fanfiction for the fourth year in a row.

These are some of my favourite fics I posted this year. I didn't write as much or as often as I'd like, but I am pretty proud of some of my work, so. Here it is!

Also, I'm very bad at replying to comments but thanks so much to all of you who take the time and leave one. I know my stuff is very often niche and kind of weird, so if you clicked and read and enjoyed one of my fics this year: I appreciate it a lot. Thank you so much.

It was supposed to be an easy job: prisoner transports are always quick money. Three years after waking up from cryo, Cody—formerly known as ICC-2224—finds himself working as a bounty hunter for one of the guilds. He has a body that doesn’t feel his, a memory full of holes, and little else. When the man he’s guarding escapes, Cody finds himself following one Obi-Wan Kenobi across a war-torn galaxy and into the most dangerous job of all: stealing a mysterious artifact from the heart of the New Republic.

This was my fic for the 2022 Codywan Big Bang. It was Very hard to write and the reason I decided to stop participating in events for the rest of 2023. I kind of hate it, but I'm also pretty proud of it (because I finished despite it all, and also I think it's pretty good).

You'll like it if: you enjoy good artwork (cowboy's illustration of Cody in bed is probably one of my favourite pieces of Cody fanart, and I love punk's cover an absurd amount), weird AUs, cyberpunk, and being depressed.

This was one of those fics I started in 2022 and finished in 2023. It's my take of the No Order 66 trope that attempts to deal with ideas of change and growing and adapting to new places, new people, and new sides of people you've known for a while. (Gee, I wonder why I wrote this fic the year I moved across the world.)

I'm also really proud of the codyfox prequel I published the other day, secant, but I think this one is more--ambitious?

You'll like it if: you like studying Cody like the bug and complicated relationships, and would like to read a slightly different take on the Fix-It/No Order 66 trope.

They say Jango Fett fell in battle, that the thing that walks and fights and wears his beskar is something else. Obi-Wan knows better.

There are a few games I get very obsessed with every now and then, and one of them is Ghost of Tsushima. This fic is a very vague adaptation of the concept behind the main character of those games, applied to Jango. I had A Lot of fun writing it though it fought me quite a bit, and it allowed me to play with one of the most popular kenfetti tropes from a different perspective. It's one of those fics that I'd like to write a sequel/prequel/spin-off to sometime.

You'll like it if: you like whump (especifically Jango whump) and What Ifs about the Mandalorian Civil War and the first years of Anakin's padawanship.

choosing to be chosen | E | ARC Trooper Echo/ARC Trooper Fives | 6.6k

ARC troopers always work in pairs.

I wrote this as a gift for a friend who wrote what's probably my favourite Echo/Fives fic ever (which I just remembered was also a gift for me lmao). I don't write this ship as much or as often as I'd like, but I'm very happy about how this one turned out--I think I nailed why I find this relationship so compelling (the inevitable tragedy, the fact that they keep choosing each other, the fact that they cannot help but choose each other). I also had a lot of fun writing Fives! He's such a messed up, interesting little dude.

You'll like it if: you enjoy intense relationships, sexual and romantic tension, baby's first attempt at milwank, Fives being clever and in love and just that tiny bit manipulative.

the price of blood | T | Commander Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi | 13.8k

A year and a half after the beginning of Cody and Rex's rebellion, Palpatine reaches out to Kenobi: he wants to talk to him, and he doesn't want Cody to be there. It goes as well as expected.

This is one of those fics that get out of hand. I wrote it because someone left an ask saying they loved the first part of what is now a series (it's not actually a series on AO3; I was planning to make it one but I forgor. as I do.) I really love fantasy and all its subgenres and I don't write it as much as I'd like, so it was the perfect chance to go ham and do a bit of of worldbuilding for fun. I'm not super happy with the ending, but I really like everything else, so.

You'll like it if: you like low fantasy, the environmental storytelling approach to fantasy worldbuilding, complicated relationships and characters keeping secrets. Oh, and Cody whump.

This fic is very much what it says on the tin: Cody and Rex from when they first meet each other, through the war and their slow loss of trust in each other, until they meet again after the war ends. This format of fic is very popular for a reason, what can I say. I really enjoyed writing it, and I think I did a pretty good job portraying their potential relationship as I see it through a bunch of scenes.

You'll like it if: you like bittersweet endings, canon-adjacent fic, and Cody and Rex being insane about each other.

A temnoceran based on pycnogonids / sea spiders, designed as an elder-level of superb proportions. This is the superboss of the story, filling a similar role to the likes of Alatreon / Safi'jiiva. - OJOZ-KADAKI Title - Abyssal spider Monster class - Temnoceran Known locales - Isolated coral reef islets Element/Ailment - Hellfire + Water + Bubble + Ice Elemental weakness - Ice (3), Dragon (3), Thunder (1), Ice (0), Fire (0) Ailment weakness - Poison (2), Blast (2), Paralysis (2), Sleep (1), Stun (0) Ojoz-Kadaki is a temnoceran residing in the deepest depths of the ocean, only emerging on the surface on secluded islets near temperate coastlines. It is easily the largest and most influential temnoceran known to the Guild, immediately identified by its dark-blue colouring and various bizarre features. The head and mouthparts expand into a gaping maw, perfect for intaking energy from hydrothermal vents. The first pair are for grappling with the second and third pair are for walking. The fourth pair support vast fin-like membranes that contribute to its bizarre influence over surface conditions. Little is known of Ojoz-Kadaki's ecology. What can be ascertained in that it usually resides deep underwater, sustained on geothermal energy and special chemicals obtained from hydrothermal vents, though occasionally supplementing this diet with filter feeding. What compels it to leave the ocean depths and arrive at the surface is something of a mystery; researchers differ on whether the temnoceran arrives to lay eggs, moult its exoskeleton, or simply seeks an alternative food supply. More research is required, though that is difficult to obtain since Ojoz-Kadaki is such a rare and reclusive species. What is apparent is that Ojoz-Kadaki is a grave danger to surface ecosystems. It possesses an ability to induce changes to the weather, which manifests either as rainstorms or snowstorms, risking flash floods or frozen conditions on environments unable to handle dramatic change. Its abdomen and massive fin-like membranes apparently released special gaseous chemicals that provoke these conditions, essentially diverting water from the ocean to the sky. It is not known how Ojoz-Kadaki facilitates this process, though some believe the temnoceran may obtain energy from elder dragon carcasses deep underwater that grants it a level of near-supernatural power. In combat, Ojoz-Kadaki is near indomitable. Sheer size and strength would be enough, alongside hook-like claws and an armoured carapace reinforced by symbiotic sessile shelled organisms. However, its control over the weather manifests in Ojoz-Kadaki's elemental attacks. From the gaping maw can be unleashed either raging torrents of bubbling water or a supercooling chemical that freezes everything around it. Its limbs likewise alternate these conditions, either liquifying ice into powerful waves or freezing streams into jagged floes. In addition, chemical reactions in its abdomen can unleash short-ranged bursts of flame akin to Hellfire. Ojoz-Kadaki will alternate various states in which one ailment is more prominent, changing the way it fights or even the weather around it. Low rank hunters absolutely must not engage Ojoz-Kadaki unless in exceptionally dire circumstances (High Rank - 8, Master Rank - 6). The sheer environmental discord this monster brings alongside its own raw strength and elemental power makes it a truly formidable opponent. Only master hunters can be expected to take it on. Hunters must carefully manage the temnoceran's different states and exploit particular weaknesses, alternating between targetting the limbs and abdomen. A creature of phenomenal influence, Ojoz-Kadaki knows next to no competition. Even a monster as large as an adult Yondrei Illavius is little match for the temnoceran; only exceptional beasts such as Amatsu or Sharah Ishvalda could hope to overpower Ojoz-Kadaki. - This is the final monster of this MH fanart series (barring some expansion muse). Hey all! I know I haven't posted or updated anything in forever here, but I wanted to let everyone know that I have been writing and posting.

On AO3. ^^;

The formatting issue between Google, Tumblr and AO3 used to be so annoying that what I would do was write on Tumblr, copy/paste on Google, edit the parts that needed fixing, then copy/paste again on AO3, so I got into the habit of just cutting Tumblr out of the equation.

Then Tumblr got an update that allowed the copy of formatting from the clipboard to its text editor, but I ended up just not posting the new things I was writing on AO3. I have several stories there that have never been put here on Tumblr.

So, I figured I should at least link them. :3

I can't believe Akira Toriyama is gone. I know everyone's going to be more upset about Dragon Ball, and I'm sad that Daima will be his last work, but Chrono Trigger means so, SO much more to me. I didn't get it at first: I'd never played a turn based RPG before and didn't understand the menus. I could have read the manual, but I only looked at the character section because the designs were fucking awesome. Hell, the only good memory I have of my great grandfather was him flipping thru the manual and saying Lucca's name. I have no context as to why he was reading it, I was fully capable of reading it myself and he had no interest in video games, but it's something. My best friend, Justin, saw my copy of the game and asked if he could borrow it. I was so annoyed with the menus that I told him he could HAVE the game, but he gave it back after he was done and he'd shown me how the game works. Once I got it back I was HOOKED, but stuck on the first boss, Yakra. We didn't have dial up internet yet, so I just threw myself against that wall so much that when my sister decided to literally sit on her controller and bounce on it to randomly select commands I was all for it (no clue why I didn't just ask Justin). It worked, somehow, but her controller... Well, let's just say that I have *my* original controller and had to replace hers many, many years ago. Luckily we got dial up not too long after that, so if I needed help I could go to GameFAQs, and I found Icybrian's RPG page, which had fanart and fanfics for Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. The message boards there became my first online community and the older members of the forums mocked my typing so hard that to this day it pains me if I don't type properly. It was still fun, and I was pretty annoying so I don't blame them for it. My other early internet community included a Star Wars RPG forum, the Star Wars Council (SWC for short). Everyone made their own OCs and I really liked Frieza (but just him, I wasn't into the show enough to care about anyone else yet because I had no consistent way to watch it), so Frieza Omega (shut up, I was like 11 or 12 and it was cool back then), leader of the Bounty Hunter's Guild was born. A bit after that I also joined an actual DBZ RPG group with my cousin and his friends as Trunks. That group was less fun because the fights were judged by other people, not co-written like the SWC. All those little interlinking pieces of my life (and other bits I left out) started with Chrono Trigger and I can honestly say I wouldn't be the person I am today without it. And while the music, mechanics, and story were all amazing, the art Toriyama did gave the game so much charm. I honestly don't know if I'd have gotten into DBZ without Chrono Trigger. Even when I saw Super Sayin God for the first time my brain immediately went "that's literally just Crono!" It's kind of funny to imagine the silent protagonist Crono screaming before doing his techs, or Goku losing his voice from all the screaming and becoming a time traveling mute stuck in Super Sayin God. I'm also really surprised that I've got more to say about Akira Toriyama than I did about Kentaro Miura, the author of Berserk. I mean, I have a Berserk tattoo because of how much the story resonated with me, but then again I also have a clock tattoo because of my time obsession that started with Chrono Trigger. It's like... Berserk changed me and has an extremely warm place in my heart, but Chrono Trigger is in my bones, my veins, my DNA, and my soul. Also, I do have one piece of DBZ merch: the Devil card from the Dragonball tarot deck, which has first form Frieza on it. Now I'm thinking about buying a copy of the full deck when I can afford it, but anyway...

Rest easy, Toriyama-san; you will be missed dearly and remembered fondly.
