Ten years.
The first ever Gruvia Week was held in 2013. It is now 2023. Meaning, this is the 11th edition/Gruvia Week... but 10 years have passed since the creation of this blog and beloved event that’s been held on the exact same dates since the beginning (April 1st - April 7th). That’s right, the event date has never changed, never held early, nor late. To keep it this consistent and for so long is truly an accomplishment.
Thank you to all the wonderful fans that have kept this event alive for so long. It has been my pleasure to host this celebration for the last 10 years, and it’s because of you that I do so. All the dedicated Gruvia lovers deserve this. The fandom has changed a lot as time went on. People come and go. However, most notably, we have grown in more ways than one. Likewise, Gray and Juvia have gone through a tremendous amount of development in the last decade. They have confirmed mutual romantic love and a son that we have yet to meet in earthland, but still very much canon in the manga and drawn by the author (Hiro Mashima) of his own accord on multiple occasions. Despite this, we are still waiting for the day they “officially” get together. The setup and foreshadowing is there... He wants it, so Gray, confess to Juvia soon!
In the meantime, we celebrate the ship once again. Here are the official Gruvia Week 2023 prompts displayed in the image above. Just like in previous years these prompts are not complicated, but they are broad and meant to make you think. Be creative. Interpret them however you see fit. If you don’t know what a word means, look it up. Specific and basic prompts would result in different versions/entries of the same thing. That’s why Gruvia Week is so successful every year; imagination. Prompts for this event are always different every year. No repeats! See: Previous Gruvia Week editions
Those who are new to the week, unfamiliar, or would like to simply rehash, please click here to learn how to participate. Also be sure to follow the rules and guidelines. Feel free to ask questions, however please check this blog’s previous posts before submitting them. It’s possible your question could have already been answered.
Reminder: All pieces must be new. Old works will not be reblogged/included in the week. Be sure to specify the day/prompt used in your post. If you don’t have a tumblr, you can still participate. Post your work on any social media platform for that target audience. Participate anywhere; the more the merrier! However, if you’d like your work to be posted/featured here as well, be sure to submit it to this blog. Or submit the link to it (if posted on another platform such as twitter, instagram, wattpad, ao3, etc).
Reminders:
Tag your work with #gruvia week (with the space) within the first five tags.
Avoid using links in your post, as there is a chance it will not show up in the tags. Try using only five tags and no links if your post does not appear. If you must use a link, make sure it shows in the tags.
If your work contains an image or gif, make sure it’s within tumblr’s photo dimensions and size limits. Sometimes big images cause posts to not appear in tags.
It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your post shows up in the mobile and/or pc tags, so be sure to check if it does.
Gruvia Week will be held from April 1st - April 7th as always. Get ready and get creative!
Graphic/art by the wonderful and talented @goodnightlover. Thank you! ♡

Goddess of Water
I recently travelled Japan and when I saw the prompts for Gruvia week, somehow this popped up in my head. Can't tell y'all why, but here it is! Please be kind, otherwise I will cry.
The Gruvia fans were real nice to me last time, so here I am again, .. sorry? The floating Tori gate in Miyajima island is real pretty by the way, just saying. If you read the story, always think how pretty it is! Uh, yeah!
Juvia is a goddess & Gray is a human AU
Gray Fullbuster x Juvia Lockser
Rated T
Warning: very basic level (and probably wrong) usage of shinotism.
7185 words
Thank you to my dearest @kankuroplease for the wonderful additional artwork <3 Its so perfect I love it so much.
For @gruviaweek Day 2: Whisper.
When he was very little, Gray’s adoptive mother Ur took him and his foster brother Lyon to the floating shrine gate, a tall, orange structure that stood out in the water almost as if it was placed on its surface, when it probably ran deep enough to stand on the ground beneath. She put her hand on both her boy’s shoulders and told them matter of factly: “This is where you meet the goddess of water.”
Gray, who had always been fascinated by the different forms that water could contain, rain, waves, rivers, morning cold, and his very much beloved snow, had just about held himself back from gasping at that admittance.
“There is a goddess of water?” His eyes went wide over the calm water in front of him to the shrine gate at the back. It seemed so very huge to him, as if a hundred men could have never carried it out there. With the way the sun illuminated the space right behind it there was no doubt in his mind that a god could live there. Despite his passion for water, he had never himself been out to sea.
Ur smiled at him: “Of course there is. Just like there are gods for sky and earth and plants and the seasons. They are honoured at different shrines than this one though, this one is only dedicated to water.” She stopped for a moment and then laughed a little. “You know Gray, each year you ask me when the snow will be falling, that is something you could ask the goddess for, since she can actually make it happen.”
“Really?” The little boy felt his eyes shine at the prospect.

gruvia week 2023 day four: delirium
~right in your arms, i'm home (where i'm safe and sound)~
“It couldn’t be you… She told Juvia you’re dead… She told Juvia that I’m the one who  killed you…”
A ghost.
That was the most probable thing the apparition was.
The vengeful ghost of her beloved had come for her to take her soul.
And she’d willingly give it to him, to end this suffering. After all, she didn’t want to live a life without Gray in this world.
“Gray-sama… be Juvia’s executioner. I have no right to live after killing you.”
Juvia closed her eyes, submitting to her fate. The world became dark and quiet, and she’s all alone. All alone, just like the old days. She let the tears fall.
This was her punishment.
                                                          ~0~
Blinded by rage, Gray went to every neighboring town Juvia was last seen. He didn’t take the news of Juvia’s disappearance lightly and began his own rescue mission to find her.
It was in the middle of the night during their trip back home when they got a call from the guild. Their panicked expressions made Gray and the others instantly awake. Everything was quiet except for the crickets outside of their inn. And it was then when the master dropped the news like a bomb.
Even when he didn’t exactly know the details of Juvia’s disappearance, Gray got up and put his clothes on swiftly. He  headed for the door without a word. His friends called out to him, but he continued to move forward. They reasoned out that they needed to go together and it’s better to go in the morning, but all their words fell on deaf ears. It was still six hours before sunrise and they’re asking him to wait? A lot can happen in a minute, heck, even a second, and he’s supposed to start to search for Juvia after six hours? No way.
“Either you go with me or you come right after me. I don’t care what you’ll do, but I’m gonna start to search for Juvia now.”
His team stood up and got ready to follow his lead.
                                                         ~0~
Looking for her was easier said than done.
Nobody saw Juvia after she got her reward in the town hall five months ago. The mayor said they offered her to stay for free for a vacation after she succeeded in her job but Juvia declined. That was the last time the townspeople saw her.
Five months… It was already a really long time. What if?
What if…
Gray shook his head and covered his face with his hands. No, it wouldn’t help him find Juvia if he thought of the worst possibilities. He was already restless with her disappearance. He didn’t need anymore stress by thinking of that happening.
While walking near another town where she was last seen, Gray noticed a young boy looking at him. He followed the line of sight of the boy and concluded he was looking at his chest. Over the years, people had stared at him because of his lack of clothing, but he didn’t care about that anymore. However, the stare of the boy fixated on his chest. It looked like he’s trying to remember something, and it made Gray ask him if needed something from him.
“Is that a guildmark, sir?”
Gray just nodded and continued his walk, because the priority right now was finding Juvia. The priority was finding her and bringing her safely back home.
“I saw someone with the same mark on her thigh. Are you perhaps related?
Gray stopped in his tracks and faced the boy.
That description… could it be?
“Where is she? Is she alright? Is she… alive?” Gray’s voice cracked a little when he asked the questions. Cold sweat formed on his forehead as he waited for the boy to answer.
The weight of the world on his shoulders got lifted when the boy answered him.
“My mama’s taking care of the lady. But she’s out of it every time she wakes up.”  The young boy led Gray to his hut. “I think the lady needs to see someone she knows when she wakes up. Let’s go!”
Gray followed the boy with only one thing in mind.
He’s gonna see Juvia after a long time.
                                                         ~0~
The young boy’s mother led Gray to a room where Juvia was sleeping. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw how thinner and paler she became.
“What… what happened to her exactly?”
Placing the basin full of warm water near the bed, the mother began to wash Juvia’s body gently. “We don’t know entirely, but my husband found her near the foot of the mountains nearby. No one from the village sets foot there. It’s said to give you the worst of your nightmares in mere minutes.”
“It’s good if you stay with her for a while. I’ll prepare dinner, please look after her.” Gray nodded as she closed the door of the room, never letting go of Juvia’s hands.
Gray’s grip tightened on her hands. Heaven knew what she saw while she was there. He knew Juvia was strong, but to relive the worst of her nightmares… even he wouldn’t be able to handle that head on.
A groan from the sleeping Juvia brought him back to his senses.
“Juvia,” he whispered as he saw her open her eyes. She groaned again, and tried to focus her eyes on the owner of the voice.
“Gray-sama?” No, it couldn’t be him…
“It couldn’t be you… She told Juvia you’re dead… She told Juvia that I’m the one who killed you…”
His heart ached with the suffering she’s in. The tears in her eyes, the pain in her voice… He shared it all with her. Gray felt her suffering. Gray should feel her suffering, because he didn’t want her to suffer alone.
“Gray-sama… be Juvia’s executioner. I have no right to live after killing you.”
“Don’t say that!” He wrapped his arms around her. “Don’t say that, please, Juvia.” Gray sighed and rubbed Juvia’s back to ease the sobbing of the woman.
“Let’s live long together. Please.”
                                                         ~0~
Juvia's whole body ached.
For a moment, she didn’t register where she was. All she knew was that she’s in a dark, warm room with a stranger sitting next to her.
She blinked, and suddenly the memory of the nightmare began to fill her mind again. Images of how Gray died during the dragon attack, because he pushed her away. Of how he died again when he stabbed himself to get themselves out of the ice lock. She remembered the wounds, the pools of blood, the cold body without any sign of breathing.
Her chest tightened as she tried to push the nightmares away. She pushed herself up to sit on the bed and let her tears fall.
The warm feeling of a hand rubbing her back calmed her down.
“Juvia, it’s me.”
But Juvia didn’t want to look. What if it’s another trick her mind was playing on her? She couldn't handle anymore nightmares.
“Juvia, it’s me, Gray.” He repeated. “I’m alive and breathing and you didn’t kill me, okay?” Gray caressed her hair then massaged her scalp after to calm her down.
“So please, please, go home with me. I’ll do my best to keep you safe from everything.”
After one last sigh, Juvia gathered up the courage to look at him.
“Gray-sama…” Tears pooled at the corner of Juvia’s eyes.
She hugged him so tight like her life depended on it. And Gray just let her. He was so relieved she was okay. The whole five months was a scare but he was glad she’s safe from the effects of the extended nightmares. But she still needed to restore her energy back. Hopefully, she’d let him restore her to health for a brief time before going back. He was thinking they could stay in their cabin first before they went back to Fairy Tail. Fresh air from the woods would be good for her.
“Gray-sama,” Her whisper snapped him out of reverie.
“Yeah?”
“Sorry for worrying you and the others.”
“Don’t think about that too much. I already contacted them and let them know you’re already safe with me.”
They stayed hugging each other for some time. Juvia’s eyes were drooping. She was still tired and needed a lot of rest. Gray noticed her slipping arms and laid her on the bed.
“Gray-sama?”
“Hm?”
“You know you’re my home right? Whenever I’m with you, I am home.”
A small smile graced Gray’s lips.
“Rest up. You can spend time with your home when you have your energy back.”
Juvia closed her eyes and let her body rest. The wonderful scenery where she and Gray were lounging in their old cabin filled her mind.

Gruvia Week 2023 - Day 2: Whisper
Faint moonlight cast a soft glow inside a small room of an old rickety inn as sounds of steady breathing coming from the silhouettes of two people sharing a single bed filled the silence of the night. Outside the old inn, everything was covered in white as powdery snow kept on falling from the dark sky. From time to time, the cold howling wind would blow giving the place an eerie vibe.
Such a scene was a normal occurrence up in the Northern Mountains of Fiore.
Back inside the small room, one of the two occupants was fast asleep while the other one was wide awake listening to nature’s creepy lullaby. Lying on their sides with their backs on each other, Juvia’s only indication that her ice mage companion was in slumber was his calm breathing. Unlike the unbothered man, the water mage couldn’t fall asleep.
Aside from the sound of the wind that didn’t really bother her that much, the fact that she was sharing a bed with the dark-haired man beside her was giving her heart an overdrive.
Earlier when they arrived looking for rooms to stay overnight, the cliché plot of not having enough available rooms occurred and left them with no choice.
They were on a mission to capture some rouge mages hiding in the snowy mountains and it was an easy job, but unfortunately, the weather hindered them from completing it on time.
Though the environment was to their advantage, risking being caught in a snowstorm was not part of their plan. Those fugitive mages they were tracking down won’t be able to leave the mountain anyway, so they decided to find a temporary shelter.
As the inn was the only lodging place they could find around the area, they didn’t have any options and it was Gray who decided that they would just share the room. It’s not like it was the first time they would be doing that.
It’s been a few months since the chaotic hundred years quest ended and Gray’s team returned. Within those months Juvia has gone on missions with the ice mage a few times.
The first one was her idea.
She noticed how Gray was no longer trying to pretend to avoid her or deflect her affections, so she tried her luck and asked him to go on a job together. He agreed, saying that would be a good way to catch up with each other after such a long time of not working together.  That one time was followed by another and then some more until going on missions more than a few times in a month became a routine. Unless necessary, Gray rarely went on a mission with his team. Most of the time it was him asking her to go on those jobs together.
To say that the water mage was happy about the sudden change between them was an understatement.
She was ecstatic.
In the past, it was always her initiating everything. She was the one asking Gray to go out with her, go on missions with her, and eat out with her. But recently it was him asking her to do things with him despite all the lame reasons he was giving every time that he did so.
Unable to force herself to sleep, Juvia opened her eyes and studied the empty wall of the room in front of her. Behind her, she could feel the slight rise and fall of Gray’s breathing.
When the battle is over, I’ll give you my answer…
She’s my power to live…
Out of nowhere, those words echoed in her head as her hand clutched the edge of her pillow.
Juvia knew without a doubt how Gray feels about her.
It’s certain that she occupies a place in his heart and she’s glad that Gray was getting more comfortable when it comes to showing his emotions. It’s just that she can’t stop herself from thinking of how long they are going to keep their unclear understanding.
With that thought, a wistful smile tugged on the sides of her lips.
Of course, if Gray didn’t want to do anything about it, she won’t force him. But at the end of the day, she’s still just a human and she could not avoid having hopes and expectations.
Deep inside her, she knew she was yearning for that answer that he promised her.
There were things she wanted to do and say but cannot due to their current relationship as nakamas who obviously harbor romantic feelings for each other but without an actual romantic relationship.
Her thoughts were futile.
There’s no point in thinking about such things. She had long proclaimed what she feels, and she already did what she had to do about her feelings in excessive ways. It’s no longer up to her how her relationship with Gray would further develop. If worse comes to worst, she could just continue loving him in her own way and cast away her hopes.
With that in mind, Juvia told herself to sleep and rest because she’ll need her energy to complete their mission when morning comes. She sighed once more and tried to block her train of thoughts that kept on nagging her.
When the wind blew once more, she unconsciously tugged her blanket to ward off the cold, but somehow it got tangled up with one of Gray’s legs and she felt the man behind her shift along with the force of her movement. He rolled on his other side and he’s now facing her back. She bit down on her lip when she felt his breath at the back of her head.
“Juv…”
Juvia’s body went rigid when she heard a low voice that seemed to be calling her name. Was Juvia dreaming already? She asked herself confusedly. Or maybe she was thinking too much and just hearing things?
But she was sure that it was Gray’s voice that she heard.
Was he sleep talking and calling out her name?
“Juvia,” there it goes again and this time it wasn’t just Gray’s voice that she could hear. She could also feel his hand on her side as his arm slowly moved around her waist. With a gentle tug, he pulled her closer to his chest and buried his face in the crook of her neck. “Can’t sleep?” he asked in a sleepy voice, his hot breath tickling her sensitive skin.
Juvia’s own breathing halted as her heartbeat hammered inside her chest, her face flushed and her mind frozen.
What just happened?
What is Gray-sama doing?!
Since Gray’s face was on Juvia’s neck, she felt it when his mouth moved, and a smile formed on his lips. “G-Gray-s-sama?”
“Hmm?”
Juvia swallowed hard when she heard his sexy hum. She was certain it was still snowing outside, and the temperature was still freezing cold, but she could feel herself heating up.
She had shared a room and a bed with Gray before. More than a few times, she had embraced and tackled him. They also shared a few physical contacts before, but as far as Juvia could remember, Gray had never initiated such intimate physical interaction.
“Gray-sama,” she called out again and though she didn’t stutter, her voice was a little hoarse. “Wh-why are you holding Juvia like this?”
Instead of responding to her question, Gray only tightened his arm around her. With how close their bodies were, Juvia could feel that she was not the only one whose heart was beating fast. After a few minutes of silence with only their breathing filling the room, Gray finally said something. “Am I not allowed to hold you like this?”
What?
Did she hear him right?
How was she supposed to answer that?
Obviously, she won’t stop him from holding her like that. But there’s more to that question that made her unable to think properly.
Juvia was just thinking about so many things, but why is Juvia’s mind suddenly blank!?  Juvia thought as she nibbled her lip.
The sudden turn of events was something she wasn’t expecting at all!
In the silence of the night Gray’s chuckle resonated within the room. “Don’t think too much about it,” he whispered. “I love you.”

Gruvia Week Day 1: Reflections  ⋆꙳•̩̩͙❅*̩̩͙‧͙    ‧͙*̩̩͙❆ ͙͛ ˚₊⋆
Summary: Before Juvia knew it, she was in one of the private rooms of the church, getting one last good look at herself before it was time to begin her walk. She was never particularly happy with the girl who stared back at her. Still, today the mirror reflected an empty image, almost as if Juvia was never there, to begin with.

Questions and Answers
Gruvia Week 2023 | Day 2: Whisper
Summary: Gray decided to ask the one thing he had always wondered about Juvia, especially during nights when his demons caught up with him.
Disclaimer: Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima
Read it on: FF | AO3
"What is Gray-sama reading?" a familiar voice whispered in his ear.
Gray jumped, immediately closing the book he was so engrossed in and trying to hide it from Juvia's view.
"Juvia! Where did you come from?" he hissed, trying to level down his voice as his words echoed in the vast chambers of Sabertooth's library.
Juvia placed her hands on top of her lips, eyes wide. "Juvia is so sorry for scaring you, Gray-sama!" She plopped down beside him, eyes all apologetic and hands reaching out for his. "Juvia was just curious what's got your attention so much. Gray-sama doesn't usually read, you know."
Gray scratched the back of his head. "Uh, it's nothing," he answered, looking away. "I just saw this book on a table and I thought — oi, what are you doing?!"
His face turned beet red as Juvia caught hold of the book he was reading and stared at the title, a little frown creasing her forehead.
"How to treat women..." she trailed off, confusion written all over her face as she looked up at him. "Why would Gray-sama read such a book?" Her brows scrunched up some more as her brain obviously went into overdrive.
Gray sighed. This girl has a wide imagination, but sometimes she couldn't connect the dots even if it was staring at her point blank. Not that he was complaining, as it would save him the embarrassment of the situation...
He watched with droopy eyes as recognition lit the bluenette's eyes and her hands flew back to her mouth.
"Could Gray-sama be thinking of how he should woo Juvia's love rivals?"
"B-but why? Is Juvia not enough? Juvia thought she got rid of all the love rivals already!" Despite her attempts to keep her breakdown quiet, Juvia's voice was already on the brink of reaching a fever pitch, threatening to destroy the library's quiet slumber.
.... And there goes her imagination, Gray thought. Juvia was now in full-blown panic mode, her eyes so round they were almost bulging out of their sockets as she cradled her cheeks.
Gray rolled his eyes and muttered "idiot" under his breath, ignoring his curiosity on how exactly she 'got rid' of her nonexistent love rivals. Reaching out to her, Gray rubbed her lower back gently while whispering, "You have no love rivals, Juvia." It had the intended relaxing effect as he saw her tense shoulders slump a little, but her next words caught him off-guard.
"Then why is Gray-sama reading this book and cheating on Juvia?"
"Ch-cheating?!" Gray sputtered. "Where the hell did that come from?"
"Gray-sama is not wooing girls behind Juvia's back with this book?
"No! There aren't even any pick-up lines in that book!"
Wrong answer, he realized too late as Juvia's eyes narrowed into slits, a deathly aura suddenly emanating from her.
"Is Gray-sama looking for pick-up lines?" she asked in a sinister whisper, barely audible if not for the silence of the library.
"Of course not! Quit putting words in my mouth," he growled, getting increasingly annoyed by the second. So before Juvia could conjure another ridiculous question, Gray covered her mouth to shut her up.
"Look, Juvia. I just found this book lying around and thought it was interesting," he explained. "You'll find it interesting too, if you just read the whole title." Gray removed his hand covering Juvia's mouth as he shoved the book towards her.
Juvia's breath hitched in her throat, and at that moment, Gray knew everything finally clicked in her hyperactive brain. He watched as her face turned a tinge of pink before she asked innocently, "But why would Gray-sama read something like this when he's already got Juvia's heart forever?"
"How to Treat Women: An Idiot's Foolproof Guide to Navigating the Emotions of Rain Women and Winning Their Hearts Forever"
It was now Gray's turn to blush at Juvia's bold words. She may not realize it, but she had a habit of sputtering out confessions out of the blue that would greatly fluster Gray. For Juvia, it was just another fact of life, but Gray doubted if he'd ever get used to the feeling of warmth blooming in his chest, spreading out to every fiber of his being, all the way to the tips of his fingers and toes.
He always got caught off-guard when he would get hit with the reality that this beautiful, sweet, and loving girl in front of him was his.
"Well..." Gray started, racking his brain for words. "It's not like I got you all figured out. There's still a lot of things I don't know about you."
"You could ask," she replied with a smile. "What does Gray-sama want to know about Juvia?"
Everything, Gray wanted to say, but she would probably go on a litany of everything about her... and who knows when that would end? So he decided to ask the one thing he had always wondered about, especially during nights when his demons caught up with him.
"How could someone like you fall in love with someone like me?"
A thoughtful look passed over Juvia's face before she let out an amused chuckle. Tucking her hair behind her ears, she said, "Is it weird that Juvia does not know the answer to that?"
She paused for a moment before continuing. "If Gray-sama had asked this a year ago, maybe Juvia would say it was because he took the rain away. But that was a long time ago, and so many things had happened since then. Juvia felt rejected by Gray-sama more times than she could count."
Juvia giggled to lighten up the mood, but Gray felt his heart drop at her words. Of course, he knew how difficult he was in the past as he tried to fight his growing feelings for the water mage to no avail. But not once had he ever thought of placing himself in Juvia's shoes to figure out how his attitude affected her.
While he was busy sorting out his feelings, driving her away only to pull her back in — she bore the brunt of his indecision and put on a brave face as if nothing fazed her. Only when she admitted feeling rejected did he realize how much she endured, and it hit him like Erza's armored punch in the gut.
"But the thought of giving up was something Juvia just couldn't take," Juvia whispered, bringing Gray back from his musings. "Juvia couldn't imagine a life without Gray-sama. And even if Gray-sama loved someone else and only treated Juvia as a friend, Juvia thought it was better than not having him in her life at all. So Juvia kept showing her love because she knew, deep in her heart, that there would be no one else."
A melancholic smile graced her lips.
"Juvia had long given up on understanding how she fell in love with Gray-sama, but she knew that she loves Gray-sama for all that he is and all that he isn't."
She had this faraway look in her eyes as if he was no longer in the room and she was just talking to herself.
After a while, she turned back to him. "Sorry if Juvia does not have an answer to your question, Gray-sama. But she —"
Before she could say another word, Gray cupped her face and crashed his lips to hers in a passionate lip lock.
Why did it matter why Juvia loved him? She loves him, and he loves her — it's that simple.
The only question he needed to answer was how to show how much she really meant to him so that she would no longer have any fears or doubts in her heart. And he knew the answers wouldn’t be found in any book in Sabertooth's vast collection — or anywhere else in the world, for that matter.
Gray gently pushed Juvia so he could look her in the eyes. "I asked the wrong question." He kissed her again, short and sweet and tender. "What I really wanted to ask was, even after everything... will you please be mine forever?" And before she could reply, he dove for another kiss, full of warmth and feelings he often communicated through actions rather than words.
When he finally let her go, Juvia couldn't help but giggle, her face all flushed. "How could Juvia ever say no after that?"
Gray smirked, tucking a loose blue tendril behind her ear. "Well, the plan was for you to say yes," he whispered.
"Then yes," she whispered back and kissed him once again. Gray reveled in the feeling of having Juvia in his arms, all traces of sadness or doubt gone as if they never existed in the first place.
He had a more important question lingering in his mind, one that he had been dying to ask Juvia for some time now and would open up the bright future ahead of them. Gray made a mental note to start looking for the ring that would go perfectly with it.

GRUVIA WEEK 2023 — DAY SEVEN: CONTENTMENT
@gruviaweek
Tumblr media
FROSTY WIND gusting through the pine trees, the sweet aroma of gingerbread cookies and candy cane, a picture-perfect warm fire dancing with the wood in the fireplace, and gooey love drifting through the atmosphere enveloping the people in a mist.
Shades of white covered the entire land in a thick blanket as pointed icicles decorated the window, cyan orbs lost in the motion of snowflakes trickling down the quaint town of Magnolia as he brought the cup of cafe mocha in his mouth, the rich chocolate flavors bursting through his system.
Years had gone by, trends had changed, and old buildings and roads had been refurbished, yet the sweet taste of the beverages in Mira's Cafe that he had known ever since he was a kid had always stayed the same. He despised changes more than anything in the world, maybe it was also the reason that he resisted the urge to leave their hometown like anyone else; there were times when he had to welcome the inevitable unknown only to go back to where he was used to growing up.
The screeching of the chair against the marble floor brought him out of his reverie, turning his head to meet the gaze of the person standing before his hooded eyes. He could feel his breath hitching, his dark pupils widening as his heart thumped out of his ribcage coming face to face with the person — no, a ghost from his past.
The first thing he noticed about her was her azure loose waves, they had grown longer with specks of lavender hues on their ends, resting on the luxurious beige coat around her body which had grown more mature, voluptuous as it perfectly embraced her figure donning a black top that matched her skirt that reached up to her mid-thigh.
The stars dancing in her oceanic orbs were shining brighter than he could remember, the last time he gazed into her eyes — it was laced with tears and pain that he had caused. In her delicate hands was a net basket of carnations blooming in vivid pink shades, he also took note of the snowflake diamond jewelry on her ring finger.
"Juvia," her name seems foreign tumbling out of his lips, yet in the same way, familiar.
"Lyon," her voice had grown more feminine as a sweet smile graced her features, one that he hadn't seen in years.
Acting politely, he stood up to help her towards the sit before him to which she reciprocated with a simple 'thank you.' He sat down in front of her, only feeling the awkward atmosphere that seems to envelop the two young adults.
"Juvia knew she'd find you here, Lyon," the blue-haired lady was the first one to break the silence, trying to ease the awkwardness circling their space with the joyful rhythm of her voice. "How has Lyon been?" she intoned.
Lyon faked a cough before answering, "I've been good, Juvia. Working as a public lawyer had been tiring, but it was fun. How about you?"
"Juvia had been doing good too, she learned a lot of new things about marine life while working at Alvarez. She's been saying yes, instead of no. Also, did Lyon know that dolphins sleep with only one-eyed close?" she seemed excited, her fingers tracing the G initial engraved on her circular pendant which did not go unremarked by the silver-head man, he can't help but wonder what the initial meant.
"I have no idea," Lyon chuckled at her display of excitement remembering the same old Juvia who easily got excited over the minuscule of things.
Juvia genuinely smiled as she observed the crease by his hooded eyes as he cackled, the melody of his laughter seeming like an old song that she hadn't heard in years that she almost forgot how it sounded like; even though his cries when she left him by the lakes constantly haunted her in her sleep a few years back.
"Juvia had this dream Lyon's doing cool shit."
Lyon halt from laughing, tilting his head as he never heard her curse even before, "Like what?"
"Having adventures on your own. Juvia dreamt that Lyon met some woman on the internet and take her home," Juvia responded, looking out at the scenery at the window.
Lyon's brows drew in a straight line, "Wow! That's quite the dream. Contrary to your sleep visions, I haven't been seeing anyone after Ultear." And after you left, he wanted to drag those words out of his mouth, yet found it improper, instead, he asked to further get the conversation going. "How about you? Have you been seeing someone?" he queried his former best friend.
With a flicker of overwhelming emotions that flashed through her orbs, further enhancing the glow of the stars beneath her voids that resembled that of the ocean that she fancy, and the tint of roses coating her high cheekbones, he could only deduce that she's caught in a love mist.
One, two, three.
Lyon waited for the excruciating waves of grief to trickle through his heart; to feel his lungs screaming for air as it felt like a thousand roses laced with thorns is blocking his airway as death knocked through his door of life — the same anguish that he felt almost ten years ago, only that it didn't come.
Had time changed his feelings contrary to his belief?
"Who's the lucky guy?" he didn't know but his mouth somehow formulated those words.
Hazy chuckles erupted from Juvia as she handed him the basket of carnations, he had only noticed the ivory envelope resting in the center with a gold wax seal. The blue-haired girl gestured for him to open the envelope which he instantly obliged, curious.
Together with their families
Gray and Juvia
Request the pleasure of your gracious
presence at their engagement celebration.
It was Gray, of course, he should have known.
Gray and Juvia, their names etched with a fine foil print on the scented paper in swooping, sloping, cursive alphabetical characters were the catalysts to the memories that he had tried to bury deep in his soul; the moments that he realized that it has always been Gray for Juvia as Juvia had always been for Gray.
The tale of the trio's friendship had its genesis in snowy weather with three snowmen clad in Juvia's Santa hats, the ridiculous purple hand-me-down gloves from Gray's sister, and the scarves that Lyon stole from his mother.
The cold breeze continuously prompts the six-year-old Juvia to erupt in a cute sneeze as her tiny fingers moved to shape the snow in a circle, the plush sweater that resembled that of a pink frog failing to do its job to shield her from the cold.
"Stupid Juvia, just go inside the house," shrieked the seven-year-old raven-haired boy, pointing to the house beside his home as he had enough of her sneezes.
"No, Juvia wants to win!" the younger girl cried as she thumped her feet against the snow-covered ground.
"Let her be, you idiot!" taunted an eight-year-old Lyon who was lost in his world as he sculpt his snowman to perfection.
Gray stood up from his comfortable squat on the ground, harshly removing the scarf draped around his almost-finished snowman which caused the figure that he made for half an hour to crumble down into nothing but an ugly lump, mixing with the ivory land.
The silver-haired kid jumped up and down as he watch his friend's snowman disintegrate, "I won!"
"No!"
Gray paid Lyon no heed, walking towards the blue-haired girl having a tantrum at Lyon's outburst. Standing in front of her, he encircled the red frozen scarf around her which engaged a shriek from Juvia. "G-Gray, no way! It's cold!" she embraced her arms around her body, squatting down on the ground.
Gray's hand trembled, quite shocked at her reaction as he quickly moved to untangle the scarf around the younger kid, confusion dancing in his deep-blue orbs. "What's wrong? Teacher Elfman said that scarves are made to keep people warm, right?" he questioned naively.
The sound of Juvia's sweet snortles resonated through his ears as he helped her stand up, the blue-haired girl tilted her head in a wavy azure bob as she began to wonder alongside Gray, she motioned the older boy to scoot down as she whispered in his ear, "Maybe Lyon's scarf is broken because he just stole it from Auntie?"
"Hey, I heard it!"
A seventeen-year-old Lyon threw his phone on the bed, his fingers raking his silver hair as he felt the frustration from his never-ending fights with his girlfriend consume him. He lay on the bed, covering his eyes with his hand as he debated climbing over to Ultear's balcony which is a house away from his own to fix their misunderstanding, and if he was lucky, he can have her writhing underneath him or the other way around and make out thoroughly with her, but he decided against it as she says over the phone and he quoted, "I need space."
The teenager stood up from his bed, deciding to just take a much-needed cold shower he opened the blinds to let some light from the sunset seep through his room when a scenery from the next door window caught his eye. His brows drew in a thick line, confused as to what were those two doing. Ever since he dated the purple-haired lady next-next door, he hadn't been able to hang out with his best friends.
Gray lazily sit on Juvia's bed with Frosch resting on his bare stomach as he read one of the beauty's books about marine life, while the female was slumped in front of him with his bejeweled guitar (courtesy of Juvia) resting on her front seemingly playing a song which prompts the raven-haired athlete to cover his ears with his hands.
The tune of Juvia's carefree laughter drifted through the air, even engaging a smile on the silver-haired teenager's forlorn features. Her laughter ceased when Gray rested his forehead against hers, their pointed noses brushing against each other. Juvia put down the guitar, her forefinger moving against her best friend's bare chest as she traced stars around the area where his heart resides. The raven-haired male moved his head away from her, only to rest it against her shoulder as he buried his face in her azure curls, the spectator couldn't help but to take notice of Gray's ear blushing to a healthy shade of red.
The silver-haired male closed the blinds as his jaw clenched, feeling rather vexed over something that he didn't know.
The golden rays of the morning star spread their scorching warmth on the beach, providing heat on the water, the sound of the waves meeting the shore should have been peaceful yet it felt menacingly eerie. The pure sand seeped its way inside his sandals, despite the heat beating down against his body; Lyon could feel the cold sweat trickling down his pale skin as he stood frozen on the ground, his dark pupils shrinking as he stared at Juvia who seems rather pale and unbreathing as she lay in the arms of Gray.
As if she was a delicate China that could break with mishandling, Gray gingerly placed her on the ground as he sat next to her. Trying to be as calm as he could, feigning ignorance to the quivering of his body as his mind dreaded the worst-case scenarios or how he felt like air is being punched out of his lungs, the raven-head placed his hands at the center of the female's chest. His palms pushed as hard and fast as he could, deducing that his best friend wasn't responding, he was swift to tilt her chin upwards as he pinch her nose, sealing her lips with his own as he blew as much air into her mouth.
The hockey player kept repeating the cycle several times, until the blue-haired girl began coughing up a huge amount of water, feebly shifting to her side to vomit more water. The first thing that she saw was Gray when she opened her blue eyes, heaving rapidly with heavy panting as she tuck Gray in a tight embrace as memories underneath the surface of the sea began flooding her mind.
"J-Juvia t-thought she'd," blazing tears began to course down her red cheeks, slender fingers clinging to his back. Her shoulders tremble with the force of her emotions as she forced herself to say, choking on her sobs, "N-never sees you again, G-Gray-sama."
Broad shoulders quivering, the hockey athlete only stroked her tangled locks with his fingers, responding to her cries with the feel of his pale lips planted on her left temple as he embraced her tighter as if she'd evaporate in his arms.
Relief began to wash over Lyon as he watched his best friend alive and breathing, yet he couldn't help but taste an acidic flavor in his mouth as he realized that he did nothing but just stood there while she was fighting for her life. His cyan eyes watched over the two figures on the ground, a green monster emotion burning behind his dark orbs as he felt that there was more to his two best friends than meets the eye, he just can't seem to decipher what.
"Juvia's leaving in a month to study in Alvarez."
Lyon felt like the moment had stopped as her words registered in his mind, he stared wide-eyed and mouth agape as enormous emotions began to consume his being. The chirping of the crickets residing in the pine trees remained as the only music that enveloped the quiet evening, the glow of the crescent moon burning brightly in the ceiling of midnight sky gifted light in the quaint town of Magnolia in which the two figures sat side by side in front of Juvia's porch.
The barking of his dog next door bestowed him the courage to let out strangled words, "W-what do you mean?" A crease formed between his thick eyebrows as he gazed at the young lady, who exuded a melancholic aura as she further buried herself inside the embrace of her thick blanket.
Her bloodshot eyes were decorated with dark circles, and the radiance that she once emanate seemed to have flown out in the air as her pale lips trembled; it dawned on him that she must have been feeling under the weather for the past few days. The confusion began to circle his mind, ever since they were just children playing around in the neighborhood, it had always been her dream to leave this town and study abroad as her parents did before.
"Alvarez University is sponsoring Juvia a scholarship to study marine biology," she smiled weakly, her gaze drifting towards the empty road in front of them as she sink further into her sheets.
"Truth be told, Juvia's hesitating to leave. Somewhere deep in her soul, Juvia wants to stay in her comfort zone with her comfort people!" the acidic water trailing down her face was glistening under the moonlight. "Juvia does not want to leave G-Gray-sama behind, Juvia doesn't understand why he kept pushing her to go to Alvarez. And does Lyon know what's worst? He said he'd catch up on Juvia so she should just go, but Juvia knew how much he loves the hockey team here! Of course, Juvia being Juvia said no which resulted in a fight. Plus, other girls would probably make a move on him!" she ranted, breathing heavily, she broke out in a childish wail as her hands moved to conceal her face.
Lyon did not say anything, he ignored how she just blurted out her feelings for Gray, instead he hauled the blue-haired girl in a firm hug to show his sympathy as she let out her pent-up anguish to her friend. She buried her halo of blue in Lyon's shoulder, seeking warmth and comfort after being in solitude for days, without the familiar arms that used to hold her to tend her broken heart.
The heavy footsteps ghosting against the blue-haired chick's front lawn rang through his ears as he looked up, before he could register the storm brewing inside the dark-haired athlete's irises of oceanic blue, the older teenager was drawn upwards as his sharp jaw met his friend's fist causing him to tumble on the ground.
"Dude, what the fuck?!" Lyon screamed in the late evening, gaining the interest of their neighbors who instantly opened their respective windows to eavesdrop, desperate for some gossip, and that includes his ex-girlfriend with an unamused stare as cucumber coated her entire face.
Before Gray had the chance to pounce at him for the second time, Juvia was quick to intervene as she clasp her painted fingers around the furious male's wrists. "Gray-sama, no! Stop!" she shrieked as she leaned her head on his trembling back, drawing stars around his bruised fist to calm him down. Deducing that she needs to lay her armor down to end this cold war with Gray, the beauty flashed Lyon an apologetic smile before hauling the vexed man inside her house.
A flicker of realization dawned on the nineteen-year-old boy, he completely understood now.
"No."
Gravel-grey clouds hover above the pitched-black painted sky, droplets of rain plunged like thousand of icicles scraping his pale skin as he knelt in the wet ground holding out a raindrop ring residing inside a heart-shaped velvet box. The loud cries of the heavens failed to mask her single answer to his proposal, he clenched his teeth with the feeling that the natural calamity was mocking him with the acidic taste of the rain in the corner of his lips, how it rumbled throughout the sky resembling that of a madman's laugh.
Grueling waves of anguish transverse to his heart as a feeling of being ruptured over by a thousand shards flickered through his being, swift yet excruciating; roseate lace thorns seeped through his airways, heartwrenching, and bloody, blocking his means of breathing. The tears that escaped his cyan voids as it hauntingly coursed down his face like a river seeming as the only remedy to ease his pain as he grieved for the living, watching her azure waves drift as she ran away from him reflecting the agony that he was enduring.
Loath.
Underneath the shower of the petals of water, as he dreads the path towards his house, Lyon loathed himself and his foolish decisions more than anything in the world. It was ungentlemanly, proposing to Juvia on a whim as he strive to stop her from leaving Alvarez to chase her childhood dreams.
Egocentric.
The silver-haired man embraced his feelings, feigning ignorance of the emotions of his closest friends as he caused them misery, their prosperous yesterdays of childish laughs and cries seeming to fade into thin air with his act of egoism.
Lyon's soul felt thin as shame washed over his being, the hurt in his heart escalated as if he was struck by lightning, standing frozen a few meters in their neighborhood; his melancholic voids watched as the love of his life tiptoed to savor the taste of Gray's lips as if it is her greatest luxury, with the raven-head's arms embraced tightly around her quivering figure as if it'd shield her from the demons lurking in the world.
Or maybe it was Lyon, himself.
The homey aroma of hot chocolate laced with a hint of burnt wood wafting through Mira's cafe, gently tickling his nostrils was the catalyst to bring his mind back to reality. His keen eyes observed the person in front of her, her oceanic orbs drifting around the cafe she frequented as a child, trying to spot as many changes as she failed to do so.
Lyon brought the cup of his beverage to his lips, the sweet flavor providing him the determination to speak the words he failed to do back then. "Juvia," he began which caught her interest. "About the night before you left the country," recognition danced inside her starlike voids, "I sincerely apologize. Believe me, when I say, there wasn't a single night where I did not regret what I did. In my defense, I have none for not respecting your feelings to save my own."
The fair lady painted a ray of sunshine over her angelic features, "Juvia had long forgiven Lyon for that. And it's alright now, but that stunt is something, doesn't Lyon think so?"
"Well," he responded with a nervous laugh.
The awkward aura that he felt earlier ceased to exist as it seemed to have evaporated into the dense air, they continued to converse about their lives for half an hour over cups of hot chocolate and cafe mocha with gingerbread cookies on the side — a similar scenery back when they were foolish teenagers.
The silver-haired man had learned that she and Gray had been together for more than ten years, turns out the former hockey player found himself fascinated with glaciology when he set foot in Alvarez. Juvia had also told him that her relationship with the raven-haired male had hit quite a bump in the road, like how she thought they would break up in the morning after 'the great war' as she quoted, but contrary to her insecurities, the man had remained patient with her as she is for him.
Lyon relish the way how her orbs were sparkling every time she talked about her glaciologist of a fiance, yet there was a selfish part of him that couldn't help but wonder that if one of his wishes had come true, would he be the one to light up the stars in her eyes?
"No!" Juvia exclaimed as she fixed her gaze on her phone, a crease forming in between her defined eyebrows as she gaze back at him with an apologetic smile. "Juvia had to go now, does Lyon remember Lucy? She's going into labor now!" she hastily stood up on her heels, as she fished out two cards from her purse that ranges from blue to black colors.
Lyon stood up with a grin on his lips, receiving the cards in her beige-painted fingers before briefly checking it to see that it was Juvia and Gray's contact details. "Oh! The writer who's dating Dragneel? I'm hoping for her best delivery," intoned the man.
"Juvia truly enjoyed the chat today, she hopes we can catch up again some other time with Gray-sama like old times!" Juvia took a few steps towards the silver-haired man engaging him in a friendly hug as she pats his back before drawing away, "Be sure to bring a date next month! Juvia heard from Gray-sama that Ultear's single," she winked teasingly, before waving goodbye.
The lawyer stared at her as she walked towards the decorated door with a jump in her steps, observing her through the large window adorned with gilded pinecones, he noticed how she tucked a stray lock of azure behind her ear when a black Lexus car halted before her.
Gray emerged from the driver's seat to open up the car door for her, he rested his palms on both of her shoulders which made her stop in her strides, before removing the woolen grey-colored scarf around his neck to drape it around her, making sure to hide her gorgeous face from the cold.
Some things never change.
Satisfastion coursed through his veins, pleased that Gray and Juvia ended up with each other, despite trying to act as the villain of their story to sabotage fate himself. Some things are just meant to be, he thought as he took a sip from his beverage, catching a glimpse of vivid curls of bubblegum pink, and maroon eyes, walking past the couple.
Juvia encircled her slender arms around Gray's broad shoulders, sneakily pointing at the mistletoe by the bejeweled pivot door of the cafe. The raven-haired man rolled his blue eyes, whispering sweet nothings into her flushed ear, before leaning down to claim her luscious lips with his own.
A sense of contentment washer over Lyon as his orbs of cyan voids stared at his old friends with a proud gaze, the quaint town of Magnolia had never seen a love as pure as these childhood sweethearts who seemed oblivious to the lavender haze that they emanates.
All's well that ends well.

gruvia week 2023 day two: whisper
~epiphany~
During the drive to the bar, Gray felt something shift in the air.
Juvia talked about that great ice cream shop her peers were raving about. She wanted to try them, and Gray immediately offered his company to her.
And he looked at her a little longer than usual, and saw her sweet smile get bigger with his offer. At that moment, everything slowed down around them. But his mind was on fast-forward when he imagined their time together in the ice cream shop.
Truth be told, Gray and Juvia’s relationship was still in the limbo. Both liked each other, and they knew that they liked each other. But both knew that sooner or later they had to take the next big step.
Juvia was already one step forward (maybe she was ahead by a mile even), and was just waiting for Gray to join her. Gray, who walked slowly and carefully, like the path he chose was a hanging bridge, wasn’t there yet. And he really wanted to join her in that path of flowers she was already in.
So what’s stopping you, Gray?
The fear of hurting her?
The fear of not working out together?
The fear of never being good enough?
These were all the things that scared Gray off, the things that were holding him back.
And yet, Juvia proved every time that there wasn’t a need to be afraid of anything.
Because Juvia was a strong woman. A woman, who, when hurt, would voice out her feelings and try to understand why he was doing that.
Because Juvia was a hardworking woman. A hardworking woman, who would do her best to work out a relationship with stubborn Gray.
Because Juvia was a woman who sees Gray in his best, and would always bring out the best in him.
And he would always thank the heavens for bringing Juvia to be his best match in this world.
Gray parked the car in the parking lot of the small bar where they would meet their friends for the night. A little celebration was in place for Levy’s acceptance in college. Juvia greeted them all once she saw them and sat with her friends, with Gray following suit. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly. The band on the stage who was in the middle of performing  a song requested by one of the patrons added charm to the place.
“I’ll get us some drinks,” Gray said, getting up and going to the counter. “Any particular drink you like to have?”
Juvia looked up at him, eyes trying to focus in the dim light of the place. “Whatever you are having, Gray-sama.” She smiled sweetly.
There it was again, the slowing down of the scene and the fast forward of the date he promised. He nodded to her and went to get the drinks. He smiled to himself as he walked.
Gray was really smitten.
And he really needed to work on that so that he and Juvia can be on the same page now.
                                                        ~0~
He settled next to her again when he came back, 2 glasses of drinks in hand. Juvia thanked him, but with the loud music he needed to lean in and hear her. This never failed to make the woman blush and immediately focused on sipping her drink.
At this point, Gray couldn’t concentrate on the music and the conversations around him. And it's because of her cute mannerisms. He didn’t have much to say either, so he just tried to focus on Juvia, because it’s the only task that seemed natural to him now.
He scooted closer, their arms touching, and Juvia looked at him again and he just offered her smile. To this, she relaxed, and leaned on him as well.
This didn’t go unnoticed by their friends of course, and Gray knew that they were going to tease them later. But like he thought about earlier, all he could think about tonight is Juvia. And he was willing to go through the teasing if that meant that she would be by his side all throughout the night.
The band was playing a mellow song, a song familiar to Gray. It was an old song he heard before, played at one of the musical festivals he attended with his friends. Back then it wasn’t something that held meaning for him. But now that he was willing to put work with the something he had for Juvia, everything made sense.
Everything made sense like puzzle pieces creating a masterpiece as you assemble them.
This time I’m sure of what I’m looking for,
And that’s what I want you to know,
And I won’t ever let you go
Let you go…
Dear heavens, he was really in love with Juvia Lockser.
And he’s way too deep to deny it anymore.
As the music played, he looked at her, eyes focused on her beautiful face. Even in the dark she glowed so much brighter than the stars.
She put down her glass and started to bob her head to the song and tapped her fingers on the table, following the rhythm.
Gray’s gaze was solely on her amidst the busy and noisy bar. He scooted his chair even closer to her. Juvia noticed the movement. Once again, she looked up and smiled at him. He would never get tired of the smile.
And he wanted to see that smiling face next to him as he woke up every day for the rest of his life.
Slowly, he moved his arm and rested it on her. Juvia leaned in and rested her head on his shoulder.
Gray whispered the song to her ear and made Juvia’s heart thump rapidly.
I’m learning,
I’m learning you now
Stars fading
Free falling into you
This time I’m sure of what I’m looking for,
And that’s what I want you to know,
And I won’t ever let you go
Let you go…
They locked eyes as the song played. The next words Gray whispered while looking at her made her tears flow and her heart jump in joy.
And I’m ready for you now
Be ready for me now
Show me love…
Juvia leaned in and let their noses touch, and let out a giggle.
“Juvia’s always ready for you, Gray-sama. Juvia is always ready to give you all the love she could give.”
He looked at her lips that he so desperately wanted to kiss. “Sorry it took a while, but I hope you’re really ready to receive all my feelings for you.”
Gray caught the look she gave on his lips and dove right in for a kiss.
There were cheers around them, but he couldn’t care less.
Gray was thankful that his whispers led him to a beautiful night, with the most beautiful woman in his arms.
A beautiful woman who he could call his partner in life.
