American Football: A Way Of Life In The Heartland

Association football, otherwise called football or just football, is a competitive team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. It is played professionally by more than 250 million players worldwide, making it the most popular game in the world. The game is predominantly played between clubs, with teams sharing different leagues. The most famous leagues in the world are the English Premier League, the Italian league, the French Ligue Football and the Spanish league. In its simplest form, football is played with one team playing against another team in a designated stadium with goalposts. The match is controlled by the referee, who decides the outcome based on a number of criteria such as if a player makes an attempt to dribble the ball beyond the goal line or if he holds the ball for a certain amount of time. The game also requires three other referees, an umpire and a judge. The game is completed after a given number of minutes, when both teams have been given the time to play their final football game.

Soccer is played using a ball similar to that used in baseball, with regulation size and dimensions set by the FIFA (Federation of International Football Associations) and the World Soccer Federation (WFF). The difference between soccer and football is that it uses a flexible plastic ball rather than the hard and solid metal ball used in baseball. Because of this, soccer can be played in any environment and any weather. Unlike golf, a golfer does not need a specific cloth to wear, because the ball will adjust to the wind and the temperature. While soccer is largely played on an outdoor field, in the United States professional games are often played indoor, mostly at universities and colleges.

To kick off, one team kicks the ball into the center of the field, where the goal line is positioned. The opposing teams take turns attempting to kick the ball into the end zone. Once the ball is launched into the end zone, it is scored when it touches either the center of the field, the goal line or the sideline. The winning team wins when the opposing team cannot touch the ball with any part of their body except for their hands. In order for a kick to be considered complete, it must travel a minimum of twenty-five meters from its launching location. A field goal is the most common goal in soccer.

In addition to the use of a ball and a kick, another way of playing soccer that is common in America is called "free-kick" or "rubber-sticking". This is not the same as "normal" kicking. In free-kick games, players use specialized equipment such as special spiked shoes with rubber tips on the bottom of the shoes. These shoes give the impression of a basketball or tennis shoe with spikes but without the protection of rubber. The object of using rubber-sticking or spiked shoes is to simulate the feel of a ball that has been dropped or hit by a ball.

Failing to kick the ball through the goal posts or the goal shade is an offense called "foul", which results in a free kick being awarded to the other team. Kick offs must take place at the thirty-yard lines, or center circle of the field. The goal posts are generally two feet tall, but can vary. The goal posts are generally constructed from concrete or wood and are constructed to withstand the force of the strongest forward kick.

LONDON: Jack Leach is happy to have become an unlikely England batting hero but the left-arm spinner hopes he will be best remembered for his bowling following recent health problems. Leach has a meagre first-class batting average of 12.47 but last year he made 92 opening the batting as a nightwatchman against Ireland. He then provided invaluable last-wicket support as all-rounder Ben Stokes saw England to a stunning Ashes Test victory against Australia at Headingley. But the Somerset bowler has also taken 34 wickets at just 29 apiece in his 10 Tests. “I’m going to tell people in the pub when I’m older that I opened the batting for England!,” said Leach, speaking from the team’s training ‘bubble’ at the Ageas Bowl, the venue for the first Test against the West Indies starting on July 8. “But I do pride myself on my bowling: that’s why I’m picked, to do that. I want to be bowling teams out on the last day, and that’s what I want to be remembered for. “Everyone talks about Headingley and it will be hard not to remember that but I’m working hard at bowling, and batting as well. If I keep being remembered for batting, I can take that.” Leach, who suffers from Crohn’s Disease, a condition that inflames the gut, had a dreadful run of illness during England’s winter tours of New Zealand and South Africa, with his place as the team’s first-choice spinner going to county colleague Dom Bess. In New Zealand, he was sidelined with sepsis and then fell victim to the sickness bug that ran through the England camp in South Africa. He returned home, suffered a calf tear but still got back into the squad that toured Sri Lanka only for that series to be called off before the first Test because of the coronavirus. “If you had the symptoms that I had (in South Africa) now you’d be thinking ‘this is definitely coronavirus’. I guess we’ll never know,” said Leach. “I’ve spoken to my consultant and doctors and they felt the medication I’m on puts me at a little bit of higher risk, but what I did come through in the winter suggests I can fight things off quite well. “I’m maybe not as high risk as others on that medication. My Crohn’s is under control, which is great for me.” As for life in the ‘bubble’, the 29-year-old Leach has brought a few home comforts with him to Hampshire’s headquarters. “I’ve brought a coffee machine, a few books, I’ll be on Netflix. I watched Liverpool win the league. “There’s a team area with different games, a golf simulator. The golf course here is keeping the guys busy as well. “I’m rooming next to Jofra (Archer) and he was straight on to gaming. Wow, it was loud. “He’s got his headphones on so he can’t hear anyone else; you can just hear him shouting at people telling them they are rubbish at whatever he’s playing.”

IHG Signs 61-Key InterContinental Resort in Khao Yai, Thailand

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a management agreement with Elysian Hotel Management, for a new property near Khao Yai National Park in central Thailand. Set to open in Q2 2020, the InterContinental Khao Yai Swan Lake Resort will be part of a mixed use project which is being positioned as a ‘destination retreat’.
