Alright so I'm reading the Kanan comic rn an so far I really liked it. But one thing that personally just punchef me in the gut is this panel/sentence right here.

This one line specifically specifically

For those who don't speak german, the litteral translation of the entier text is : "Common sense tells me that I should leave this lousy liar, instead I left Kaller with my new 'friend' as my folks chased me"

The words I specifically focused on , "Meine Alten" are the "my folks" in my translation. Thing is, that isn't the litteral translation. I'm not sure If english even HAS a translation for that. "My folks" is just the closest thing I could think of.

"Meine Alten" lit. translated acctualy means smth along the lines of "My old ones" or "My olds". It's an (although an older one) slang term german teens use when they are talking about their parents/refer to them with someone else.

I myself call my parents "Meine Alten". That's a term reserved for parents only, older family members too if you want I suppose. But primarily it means the parents. It even has a counterpart ! "Meine Jungen" , lit. translated "My youngs" or "My young ones" which is how parents refer to their children when talking to someone else.

And it's just- it's just so sad even though it's something so small. Idk if english did smth similar but in german this means that even though all this happened. Even though Grey and the other clones are hunting him down. Even though they killed his master, Caleb still refered to them with something so casually parental.

And it must have been subconcious too from how I read it. He didn't even notice that he still refered to them with a casual slang term for one's older family members.
