Some bits I've managed to translate from Shota's Shin Ni Champion video that I find notable
Note: I am still learning Japanese, my translations could very easily be wrong in some way or another but I'm pretty confident they are at least mostly right. If you watch the episode and see that I have messed up, let me know!
Points under cut
When discussing having a pro wrestling ref as your father, Shota makes mention of 'Tenryu-san' (Genichiro Tenryu) and that there's a picture of Tenryu hugging him when he was just a small child somewhere in the Umino house. Togi Makabe (who I assume is there for emotional support) remarks "I'm jealous!" Shota reassures him that "I have no memory of it."
One of the first questions they ask Shota is about his relationship with Makabe. They are quite close, and Shota regards Makabe as a kind senpai, not a scary one. Mitani Tsumugi (the host/queen of Shin Ni Champion) asks who his senpais specifically in the dorms at the dojo were. Shota replies "Wato-san" as Master Wato was 1 year his senior when it came to entering the dojo. However they were both born in '97, Wato just being a month older. Makabe and Mitani are surprised that Wato is his senpai (Makabe does the Wato pose for good measure) and Mitani asks "was Wato a kind or scary senpai?" Shota responds with "he spoke kindly to me."
During the episode they are making Takoyaki while they talk about Shota and his life so far both in and out of the ring. They play some important matches for Shota, Makabe and Mitani to comment on. The first match is of course his 2017 debut against Tetsuhiro Yagi. Shota is too pre-occupied with making his Takoyaki at first but eventually looks up and spots baby Shota in the ring. His reaction is: "wow! Terrifying, I'm getting old."
